    The Pro Diver was my second automatic, after falling in love with that kind of movement with my Seiko SNK805. I purchased the Invicta before I was particularly sophisticated about watches. I had no idea it was so reviled among enthusiasts. I simply saw it as a smaller diver; a good match for my thinner than average wrists. The sale price ($57) was very attractive and honestly: I'm a sucker for exhibition case backs. In spite of everything I've since learned about the Pro Diver's perceived pedigree, I still get a tremendous amount of personal satisfaction wearing an attractive, mechanically respectable automatic timepiece. FWIW: I agree with Chris Moore about the Invicta branding engraved on the side of the case. It doesn't really bother me and if anything, seems like an honest admission by the manufacturer that they're not trying to pass this off as a Rolex Submariner.

      I don't think your alone in that story. I think some of the more elitist enthusiasts forget that everyone has to start somewhere. For me, I don't care what brand it is. As long as you like it, and it gets you more interested. That's whats more important.
      The side branding, might just be my own personal thing. I don't even like large branding on my clothes. Never have, I always tell my wife I don't want to be a walking bill board. I don't mind a small logo, but if it's got NIKE across my entire chest.. nope wont do it. The only exception is when it comes to sports teams, and even then I prefer the logo and not the name. Cheers!

    Thank you for a patently fair look at this polarizing watch which is too often the subject of prejudicial "Invicta invective." I think it's a fantastic watch, especially when it's on sale for a mere $55 as it is now. I'm deep enough now into watch collecting that it's a peripheral piece that I could do without altogether, but for a budding watch enthusiast, or even a seasoned one who just wants a solid piece at a bargain price, it's the bees' knees.

    • @RelativeTime

      Thank you, and I couldn't agree more. Its a fantastic way to get a taste of what an automatic is like, as well as a subby. And if you don't like it, you can easily resell it on ebay. Cheers!

    Good review and good video. I have the blue single silver tone one and it's my go to swimming watch. I've been swimming/snorkeling in the sea and pool numerous times and it keeps great time. The Invicta logo on the side doesn't annoy me at all. It's a one of a number of things that states it's an Invicta (which given some people moan it's too much of a Sub copy, I'm surprised they also moan about the distinguishing features). For the price it's an incredible watch

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 років тому +6

      That is a good point, you can't really have it both ways. But a lot of that is just looking for excuses to not like it.
      For me, I have no problem with anything on the dial, but the side branding bugs me. But that's my personal tick. I won't wear any clothing that has a brand name on it. A small logo I'm good with, but brand name stretched across the chest like Nike... nope.

      Interesting, and plausible considering the deep pockets of who owns Invicta (making them look more attractive to Rolex lawyers) and how long this series has been in production. That being said, Rolex could go broke trying to swat down every Sub homage out there.

    • @BrianHartman
      @BrianHartman 5 років тому +6

      @@daviddeckert That's what I'm thinking, too. Why swat Invicta for their use of the design when a) the watch already says "INVICTA" on the dial, and b) there are a lot of Subby homages out there already?

    Yes the 9094ob is a great watch for the money.

      @corporatetool2563 2 роки тому

      People don't like the engraving, signed crown, second hand, case, rotor, and the clasp due to one reason: modification. People want to buy these to customize. Dial swap is a cheap mod with the most cosmetic impact. But now you have to replace every part with the annoying branding. Since grinding away all the emblems and polishing is very time intensive. Most people who wanted to buy the watch for mods already know how to change the dial, hands, bezel, relume a different color, and regulate the accuracy. But Invicta knew this and did all the branding to discourage mods.

  • @SuperBeemerGuy

    As usual, you’ve presented a fine review of a good, affordable watch. Some of my top reasons for liking the Invicta Pro Diver and Invicta Grand Diver watches, especially the automatic movement models, is they offer superior Seiko movements than the movements Seiko installs in some of their own models that cost as much as 10x the price of the Invictas. Think about that one! Ironically, the most common complaints I read of the very popular Seiko SKX007 and SKX009 have to do with no hacking, no hand-winding, poor indexing, poor accuracy, insufficient power reserve and flimsy bracelets. All of these features and none of these complaints are found in the automatic Pro and Grand Divers. I have come to the conclusion that some reviewers receive some form of compensation from Seiko. I can detect who they are by their blind faith and praise for Seiko in spite of that brand’s undeniable shortcomings. I recently forgave Seiko long enough to purchase a new Prospex diver. It cost $500+ and still had nearly all the same Seiko shortcomings. After wearing the Prospex uninterrupted for one month, it stopped running approximately 30 hours after I took the watch off. Terrible! I appreciate your objective reviews very much. They have helped me make more than a few important buying decisions.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 років тому

      The older 7s26 seems to have an issue getting fully wound. Not sure what it is. It's a workhorse movement, but many people report the same thing, that they only get around 30 hours wearing it. And with no hand winding... well you know.
      I just wish they would update the SKX to the newer movement. But they don't have a reason to when everyone keeps buying them.
      I don't think Seiko offers any kick backs, I think they are too big to care what goes on here. It's more just a cult mentality. That the SKX is the greatest budget diver / tool watch that has ever been created. So they never really look at anything else. The movement is the main reason I've never bought one. I might just to review it here. But I'm very hesitant. So many reviews already not sure if it would add any real value.

    The 9094OB was my first automatic watch I had ever bought just like a lot of people. If some don't like it I say "get over it". We don't all have a lot of money to throw around. It's a beautiful watch. At least the blue one is. I clean mine with jewelry wipes from Wal-Mart and it shines in the sun enough to blind you. For $60 it can't be beat. Nothing against Timex but an Expedition is $45 as is an Ironman and I have several of them because I work at night. I now own a Citizen, a Tissot, and another Invicta automatic. Unfortunately out of the box my 9094OB loses 15 seconds a day. The ugly Grand Diver I bought gains 7 seconds a day. Neither bad enough to do anything about it. Somebody show me a better watch for $60. With the polishing I've done on it I see people's heads turn all the time.

    Nice review 👌
    Amazing someone that didn't totally trash it because of being an Invicta.
    Over the years, I've owned at least 10 variations of the 40mm Pro Diver automatic (including open-heart models). Never had issues with any of them. I've either given them to relatives or sold them because I prefer watches in the 43-50mm range such as my Seiko Tuna's, Turtle's, Samurai's, Sumo's and SKX's; to list a few.
    I did upgrade on my 40mm Pro Diver's, though. I purchased (direct from Invicta) and still own my 9938ob and 18507. Periodically, they can be found in the $200-$300 range (new) Some upgrades include:
    Sellita SW-200 movement.
    Flame Fusion crystal.
    Improved bracelet.
    Solid end links.
    Milled clasp.
    These watches are well worth what I paid for them 😁. Also, I love and own a few 47mm Grand Diver automatics. My wrist is a little under 8", so as long as the lug-to-lug isn't ridiculous, I can wear a larger size watch.
    Anyway, if you can get your hands on one of the 40mm Pro Diver's with the Sellita movement; you'll be in for a real treat.

    I have modded the two Pro Divers I have and enjoy watching UA-cam presentations that endorse this watch for what it is against its low price, the same goes for Vostok.

All that being said, I wear it all the time and I love it to pieces. When I was young and stupid I had a Tudor blue dial sub that I parted with. No longer have it, and they no longer make it, but this reminds me of it and as someone who has owned a share of Seiko divers I have no problem with the movement Seikos are solid. My only beef is the ugly engraving on the side of the case but I can't see it when I wear it! I always thought of invicta as a cheap "as seen on tv" brand that made huge ugly things suitable only as costume attire but this watch changed my mind.
    As for as durability... I have two, one was ripped off my wrist by a door in a warehouse and landed on a concrete floor from shoulder height, BAM. It still keeps good time after replacing the springbar. Slightly fast sometimes by a minute or two but not enough to care and if I still had my old watch tools I could open the back and adjust it but don't want to pay someone to do it. So unless you are planning to literally throw your watch into a concrete floor you got nothing to worry about and even then it is still serviceable. This watch is my go to when working, riding my bike, or otherwise when I might not want to risk a nicer one, but still want to wear a mechanical watch that is solid and looks cool.

    Thanks for the Review!
    I bought my two tone Pro Diver at a Pawn Shop for $40 out the door... It had some arm cheese and the bezel insert was less than out of the box pristine... But I bought it for the Movement. I thought... If I wanted to grab a "SKX" with a dead movement (Hey... It could happen) I could swap it out for a hacking, hand-wind movement. Then I stripped off the bezel insert and be darned if it doesn't look pretty cool with that gold bezel... It absolutely gives the crown a raised look and makes that beautiful blue dial stand out more.
    So I am considering putting a gold GMT bezel insert in it and just see what that looks like.

    This watch has many of the things "reviewers" knock other watches for not having. It has a nice fit and finish. The polishing is superior to many that cost twice as much. The band has solid links, not rolled. The crown is signed. The bezel is perfectly aligned and operates well. The NH35A keeps excellent time. The Flame Fusion crystal is similar to the Seiko's Hardlex. All that for less than $100. If you took the name off the watch and let the snobs look at it, it would get a very good rating. The Pro Diver comes in several versions. The PD Reserve 6883 is a beautiful watch with an SW200 movement with 28,800 bph!

    Just a comment... I'm new to watches. But there are Invicta Pro Divers out there with NH35A Seiko movement, without the yellow rotor. It seems many people think if your rotor is not yellow, you have the older Miyota movement... not necessarily true. I got a blue-faced Invicta Pro Diver today, the rotor is plain silver, not yellow. But under inspection it does have "NH35A" engraved, and the rotor is bi-directional, whereas the Miyota rotor is uni-directional. Invicta is not trying to be a fake Rolex since they are an old well established company that is proud to put their logo and branding all over the watch from the face to the case, clasp and stem...and I like all of it!
    Not everyone likes every aspect of every watch and there are many Rolexes I would not be caught dead with simply because I don't care for them.

    I could easily buy a Rolex Submariner, they are a rather iconic watch but I am not going to play into the hype, artificial scarcity and speculation game that is playing out which is wholewheartedly supported by Rolex, ADs, the grey market and on and on...I am long past trying, needing, wanting or being peer pressured into buying soley to say I own one or trying to impress anyone or be pretentious about what I have on my wrist( mind you, I never ever was).
    Invicta to their credit has made a beautiful watch of incredible quality and beauty available to almost anyone...order it off Amazon or any other platform and have it in a few days..no waiting, no buying crap from an AD to suck up to get on a list.

My first Invicta was the Speedway a Rolex Daytona Homage quartz but a decent watch good build quality as they all seem to be cant fault them though the do make some truly horrendous models.Take a look at the Speedway though its very good.

    I have the Pro Diver with the open heart, it has the Seiko NH38A movement, I have some way more expensive divers but I still enjoy wearing this one, best part is I only paid $78

      That's a pretty good price. The only thing that comes close to beating these in value is some of the Chinese watches.
      Which I'm not sure if you have seen it, but I am doing a giveaway on one. Goes until the 1st.

    I own Invicta watches ... the trick being don't buy the weird ones out of the ordinary... personally I don't like the units above 45mm .... the pro diver section is a great range with 38mm to 43 mm units.... with auto 's and quartz... and if you want to flip them they sell.... I've a very early pro diver quartz with a mother of pearl dial ..... it is a gem ... It would never leave my collection ...
    I never spend over $80 US ........ I now have 6 ... 😁

    Excellent review. I don't understand the level of hate some people have for the brand, unless you actually paid MSRP 😀. In 2018, when people are spending huge money on an Apple watch, buying a automatic Invicta for cheap is totally fine.

    • @RelativeTime

      Good point. I'm a little mixed on smart watches. I have an older Motorola one, but I only wear it to the gym. My biggest issue with them is that after 2-3 years they are worthless. Being replaced by newer and better models.

      @@RelativeTime Yes they have a very limited lifespan because technology itself is so fast moving nowadays. I enjoy mechanical watches but IMO as the years go on watches in general will be relegated to being a curiosity, outside a few specialized fields/activities. I doubt any watch, but the really rare ones, will be able to keep it's value in the future.

    Really stepping it up, nice job! I dislike a lot the subby homage look. But for the price, specs, and most of all for my slender wrists, the size. The Orient and Vostok are all still a bit bigger.

      @RelativeTime  5 років тому

      Thanks. It seems like most other divers these days are at least 42 if not bigger. Although the one Vostok I have is the 420 case. I think it's actually a 39mm.

    I have a lot of Invicta watches. I have found that most of them have a pretty good quality build. The pro diver is a good looking watch but it does have a cheap feeling bracelet. I wonder what the old reserve providers were like. I just got a new bolt Zeus Invicta. I'd like to see your review that one

      Relative Time : Yes just received the 42mm in Gunmetal, which looks slight bronze, in gold accent and a 42mm black on black both come on canvas nato. NH35 auto, $59 each no tax free ship. Liked my 42mm silver, black dial w/the Jubilee so much, had to expand. I agree the dial on the 40mm is a bit small. All my seiko & citizen divers are feeling neglected
      I really enjoyed your very professional review!! Looking forward to more ⏰

    What's the difference between the Miyota movement to the Seiko NH35 movement ? Plus which would be considered the best of the two movements.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  4 роки тому +1

      Well the comparable Miyota would be an 8215 or 821A. Personally I think they are pretty equivalent, but generally people like the Seiko NH35a better. I'll list out the bigger differences.
      1. The rotor on the miyota is a little louder then the Seiko. I don't notice it, but it bothers some people.
      2. The rotor also only winds in one direction, while the Seiko can be wound by going both directions.
      3. The miyota second hand can "stutter". Technically this is a safety feature. If the watch senses any extra torque on the second hand it stops trying to move it for a second. Then quickly advances to the correct time. A lot of watches you will never even notice it, yet some are more noticeable then others.
      4. Until recently the Miyota 8200 movemnts didn't hack. Where the second hand stops when you pull out the crown. But last year Miyota started to silently upgrade a lot of the 8200 series movements to have hacking. So if you get a newer one there is a chance it will have it.
      So nothing really wrong with the Miyotas, but people generally prefer the Seiko. Although that said, I've had much better luck with accuracy when it comes to Miyotas.
      Also don't confuse the Miyota 8215 movement for the 9215. Which is an awesome movement. Highbeat and very thin. It costs about 3x as much as the NH35 and 8215, yet it's 1/2 as much as the equivalent swiss movement.

    Great video as always.
    Although it isn't something I personally want, I still put this watch on par with the Duro as far as value for money. It's a solidly respectable automatic but the band isn't much. A great entry level auto for the budding horologist. Very small investment for a lot of watch.

      Also meant to add - seems to me that the NH35 is the movement that Seiko should be fitting to its standard autos and ditch the prehistoric 7S26/36 with their non-winding/hacking. I have an Orient Ray2 c/w hacking and winding - SO much simpler to keep accurate than the Seikos...
