I like the zoom ring, it feels quite nice and has a relatively constant resistance, but when I autofocus, I use the most front part of the lens, to front barrel, it's far smoother than the physical focus ring. And with the barrel, I can use the forward and backward movements to my advantage.
I have the Nikon AF-S DX 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens, which I’ve been using for 12 years now. It works great with the D5100 - in my opinion, that’s the best combo you can get with this lens. I’ve also used it on my D3300 and now on my D7500, but it doesn’t feel as good or is harder to get just right with these cameras, at least from my experience. I love this lens since it’s been my main lens for all this time, but I’ve decided to use half of my savings to invest in an upgrade that I hope will be my main lens for the next 12 years (unless I feel forced to switch to mirrorless before then). My plan is to use it for at least the next 10 years and longer if possible. The new lens I’ve chosen is the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR, which is high-end but intended as a one-time investment, or at least that’s my hope. I primarily shoot nature, animals, and zoo photography.
hello! is the 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 with a nikon d7500 good enough for lowlight, sports situation (ie football at night)? im planning to buy a d7500 but couldnt find a zoom lens w a higher aperture :(
@@vezuviusI wouldn’t recommend the 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens for low-light sports photography, especially for something like night football. As the name suggests, it has a maximum aperture of f/4.5 at 55mm and f/5.6 at 300mm, which limits its performance in low light, as it doesn’t let in as much light as a lens with a lower f-stop. I recently ordered the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR lens, which is much better suited for low-light situations. On the D7500, this lens effectively acts like a 105-300mm lens because the D7500 has a DX sensor, which applies a 1.5x crop factor to FX (full-frame) lenses. The D7500 also has a 1.3x crop mode if you need a bit more reach, but keep in mind this crops into the image, which can impact resolution. The f/2.8 aperture on the 70-200mm lens allows significantly more light, making it a much better choice for low-light sports and action photography. If low-light performance and fast autofocus are priorities, the 70-200mm f/2.8 will serve you well
@@KibaSnowpaw yay!! thank you for the sound advice. i did find a 80-200mm f/2.8 but its AF, not AF-S. do you this will have a significant impact on the captured image (especially in comparison to the AF-S)?
@@vezuvius Yay! Glad to help! The 80-200mm f/2.8 AF is a fantastic lens, though there are a few differences with the AF-S. Since you're considering the D7500, it’s worth noting that this camera doesn't have an internal focus motor, so it won’t autofocus with the AF version of the 80-200mm. You'll need to focus manually if you go with that lens on the D7500. The AF-S version, however, has a built-in Silent Wave Motor, so it will autofocus smoothly with the D7500. This could be especially important for fast-moving subjects or if you want the convenience of autofocus. Both lenses are great optically, but the AF-S would give you full functionality on the D7500. Hope this helps!
Did you have the VR turned on with the movement shots? If so, that will be why they got like that. I would like to know if that was the case, because I am interested in buying one of these myself.
hey thanks for the review! could you please do a comparison of this one with the af -p 70 -300? I am thinking of buying one and a comparison of the the image qualities of the two at the farthest end would be great help!
G.Vamsi Krishna Goud , go for the 70-300 blindly. It does not only give u more magnification but it’s much ,much clearer than the 55-200. I got it about an year ago.
not an action lense, but great for stills and landscape.........a little bit slow.........so take your time...Best to use this one on a tripod, or mono stick.
I can't wait for the new dot update!Wanna know why? Cause will upload at least 1 dot video... finally. I have no problem with this type of videos if you upload and dot videos! You can show some battles with archers at least ;)
the auto focus speed on this lens is slow as shyt. its not quick, it does take nice clean shots, but i wouldnt dare try any action shots with this lens. i hooked it up do my d500 and did some bird chasing, and immediately took if off and switched to my tamron 18-400mm. the 55-300 is good for stills, do not get this lens for action.
Kura Abella okay so I did a quick research and have seen that that 18-300 is pretty decent , But, the 18-200 is just as good , just as fast , and costs only $200 . I already have the tamron 18-400 but it’s not as sharp but I already have the 300mm+ distance and I would consider the 18-200. I’ll see if I can find it used at KEH . Thanks for the tip !

Yes it works
The shot with the bike that you said was out of focus, what was the shutter speed?
Nice video! Do you recommend it with the Nikon d7500??
I think he would say... ABSOLUTELY.
This way the front element rotates really makes it a pain to use with cpl filters.
Yes, but remember the price which is not huge! It's made to be more affordable, it's kit lens. Still can get decent shots.
Nice review! Thanks!
Is it parfocal?
Is VR for image taking or video taking or for both??
It works when it's ON no matter what you are doing.
