    This little lens is cheap and plasticky, but the optics are really, really good for the price point. I have my copy a few years now, and it's still one of my reach for lenses for walkabout, it's so light it barely adds weight to my 7100, recommended.

    I have the VR1 version and I love it. I would put up against my other Nikon tele zooms (70-210mm D and 80-200mm G) any day, and the VR is a great plus. The optics are outstanding for what you pay for. Plastic build is no problem if you don't abuse it, and why would you? The VR1 and VR2 use the same optics so the only thing is if you need the space in your camera bag.

    Appreciate this video! I actually found one in a pawn shop as I was looking for a back up Nikon DX camera, and they had this one for only $80 and I jumped on it! LOL
    The auto-focus was a little stiff at first, but I put a light coating of oil on the lens barrel and that took care of that...
    I am now using it on a D3400 and I'm VERY happy with it, Extra benefit, using it on a full frame Nikon 750 and get a longer lens perspective..thanks again for the review!

    Is the difference significant between 55-200 VR II and VR?

    Thanks, your review is helping me lean into the 200 vs 300mm!!

    Will this lense be good enough to capture good pictures if seating in nose-bleed seats at sporting events? Or would the 55-300 be a better option?

      +CuerVo214 what kind of shots you looking for? If you want those nice action shots up close you'll need more than a 300.

    This is Gen-2, isn't it? So... What is that added on this and the more recent upgraded versions of this? And what is that one may miss on Gen-1 ?

    • @scotpurdy8132
      @scotpurdy8132 3 роки тому +1

      Yes, it's a Gen II. The only real difference on the Gen II is that they added that lock feature, which allows the lens to retract smaller. I, personally, hate the lock buttons on these lenses as they can malfunction and not allow the lens to "open". I've had two different lenses locking button malfunction and it rendered the lenses useless. This is not uncommon on this design. Look for the Gen I version as they can be purchased cheaper and have the same specs otherwise.

      It works on all nikon cameras. Even mirrorless with the adaptor. I bought this when i had the D80. I now have a D610 with 5 FX lenses. I stil use this 55 200. It is quite supeb ! I always shoot raw, and process in Lightroom CC. Images are excellent.

    Will this work on the D3500?

    • @orianteri
      @orianteri 4 роки тому +2

      Yes. D3500 is a DX sized DSLR. It means that lenses that are DX sized (like the one in the video) fit just right to your camera. It says DX on the side of lens.
