I can’t tell enough how I enjoy your videos every Sunday night Paul. You’ve inspired me to getting back to my own HO building projects after some time away. I find that I get the most pleasure assembling, painting & weathering buildings than actually running trains.
That’s very kind of you Kevin. I’m very similar in thought to you when it comes to model railways - the construction and painting is by far the most pleasurable part for me and running sessions tend to take a back seat as a result. Paul
The devil's in the details and you do the details so well Paul! The staircase and downspouts really brought the signal box to life. Well done as always!
Hey John, the details certainly added another dimension to it. Thanks as always. Paul
Pretty much word-perfect what I was about to type, although this explanation is the same length, so not a lot of time saved there.😁
Hiya Paul, once again a masterclass in scratch building..top class, all the best, Chris
Thanks so much Chris. Paul
Excellent scratch build Paul, the detail brings it to life. 👍
Thank you Paul. Paul
Yet another excellent scratch build it looks amazing with the little bits of detail thankyou for the video Paul
Thank you for your kind comments Mark. Paul
Excellent finale Paul. Great attention to detail as always 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Gary, thanks. Paul
Excellent work Paul. The added details set a very nice model to an even higher level. Thank you for sharing your techniques. Cheers - Larry.
Thank you for watching and commenting Larry. Paul
Absolutely fantastic video again Paul can't wait for the next project !!! keep them coming mate
Thank you Ross, just need to decide what that project will be
Excellent work from beginning to end.
Thank you very much Leonard. Paul
very informative. sparked my scratch building interest again
Thanks Gary, good luck with your projects. Paul
Awesome work Paul!!! Love it! Cheers Onno.
Thank you Onno. Paul
“I’m just going offscreen to do these fiddly things”
Or you might hear some NOrthern Irish vernacular……..!
Wonderful Signal Box, I’ve an old second hand Hornby or Airfix Air Traffic Controller tower that I’m going to renovate thanks to your tutorials.
Happy New Year everyone, Ian
There may have been a few choice words whilst off screen Ian. 😆 The Airfix tower would make a perfect donar to convert in to a similar styled signal box, good luck with the build. Paul
@@GalgormHall I fully understand! Thanks, Ian
Hi Paul- What a great end result all those extra little details do make the difference . The owner must be delighted .
All the best for 2022.
Cheers Kev
Thanks Kev, I think he’s quite chuffed. 🤗 Paul
Wow that looks awesome!!
Cheers Eric. One of these would suit your layout well. 😉 Paul
Absolutley brilliant Paul If i get half way near making buildings as good as yours i will be well suited thanks again for a great how to. Regards Alan
Thank you Alan, a little practice and determination and I’m sure you’ll surpass anything I can produce. Paul
Great job Paul. The finishing touches certainly set off what could be a boring box. The recycled steps are impressive. Cheers
Thanks Davie. Boring? I never considered the minimalist design boring, I thought it quite functional. 😆 Paul
@@GalgormHall Functional is probably a better choice of words!
@@daviemaclean61 😂
All the best for this year Paul to you and the family. Great modelling as always , nice 👌😎 regards fred
Happy New Year to you Fred. I’d like to think we will get a chance to meet up this year and have a good chat, I hope so anyway. Paul
That is a beautiful piece of modelling Paul. The final detailing really makes all the difference to what was already an impressive scratch build. Enjoyed watching this series. Stephen
Thank you as always Stephen. Is it something we could see converted in to n gauge at some point? I do like to lay down challenges for you. 😆 Paul
@@GalgormHall Hmmm not sure about that. I will say this quietly so no one but you hears, but I don't like much about the Southern Railway 🤫. I also learned a great deal downsizing the other signal box and I think some of the detail would be quite difficult to replicate in the smaller size. Doing that made me realise why so few of the Scale Model Scenery OO kits get produced in N. I will keep an eye on your other scratch builds though and see if there is something else I can scale down. Stephen
@@Elvenhome I’ll try and do something more N scale friendly next time and as far from the Southern region as possible. 😆 Paul
Looks excellent Paul, the little details really bring it to life and I am so jealous of who is getting this box.
Top work, as I expected, from the scratch build man.
Thanks Alex. You know the score by now, wait long enough and it may come your way eventually. 😆 Paul
@@GalgormHall 😆😆
That was amazing video clip you put together there off you doing that build an it looks like a lot off fidelity stuff to do there and it was great to watch you do that an it is good when it’ came s together there an keep up the amazing video clip there. 👍👍
Thanks so much Mick. Paul
superb work Paul
Thanks Paul. Paul
Great work, love your drainpipe method 👍
Thank you. Paul

Thanks for another instructional and inspirational video on scratchbuilding! Now I realize I can use easily-shaped florist wire to model downspouts. Fun activity while watching: using a slide rule to convert your metric sizes to imperial units. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Thanks Andrew, I hadn’t considered you yanks with your imperial measurements. How you guys work in 1/8th or 1/16th of an inch is beyond me. Paul
@@GalgormHall Heh. It's mostly decimal inches for modelling supplies, so the conversion is pretty easy.
Another smasshing build Paul, some great tips there i might like to borrow...stay safe buddy...Tony
Thanks Tony, par for the course to swap tips. Chat soon. Paul
good vid as always paul keep up the good vids thanks lee
I’ll keep plugging along. Thanks Lee. Paul
Once again, you set yourself to a high standard. Those final touches take an already nice model and make it a piece of reality in miniature. Brilliant work, again, Paul!
I really do enjoy getting your comments Anthony, they always give a lift to my mood for the day. Thank you. Paul
Happy New Year Paul and family. Some very good ideas there! I enjoy your videos :)
Cheers from down under
Happy New Year Wally and thank you. Paul
Another great build Paul , Can I wish you and yours a Very Happy New Year
Thank you John and a Happy New Year to you too. Paul
Another fantastic piece of modelling Paul, those finishing touches really work. I am going for a challenge myself now, building a seine netter out of plasticard - should be fun! Cheers Steve
Thanks Steve. Now either I don’t understand or it’s typo but what is a Seine netter? 🤷🏻♂️ Paul
@@GalgormHall -a fishing boat 👍
@@GalgormHall EF beat me to it! Yes it is a smallish trawler type mostly used up in Scotland but an ideal size for Salcombe harbour
@@skel3110 gotcha. I’ve just googled them, that’s quite a project you’ve given yourself. Paul
Always impressed with your modelling Paul. Class!
Thank you Barton, always appreciated. Paul
Maybe, the yellow pipe could be gas, but otherwise a brilliant piece of modelling.
You’re probably right Rob hence the warning yellow it’s been painted in. Thanks. Paul
Hi Paul you attention to detail is superb as ever. Can you indicate the colour you applied to the staircase? Is it a weathered concrete? Many thanks.
Thanks you EF. The base coat for the steps was Revell 82 dark earth followed by a wash of a black/brown acrylic with a hint of olive green in areas too. Hope that helps. Paul
A job well done Paul. How many hours do you reckon that took to make? The joys of scratch building.
Thanks Steve. It’s a good question on the hours put in. I never count them but I reckon each video had about 1 - 1/2 hours footage cut down to the 20 minutes so that would equate to 10 a 15 hours. It’s a grand old past time sure. Paul
