That's one thing that has always bothered me of Windows laptops. I've been using Macbooks for work for the last 10+ years, and it always feels like a downgrade to go back into a windows machine from the build quality and materials perpective.
Thank you! I reshot a majority of this video because midway I decided to start benchmarking for AI performance and also include shots of it opened up. Delayed the video by about two weeks, but I'd say it was worth it!
I bought a laptop according to your review, but the fans don't turn off in silent mode. They work constantly even in office tasks. A complete disappointment. Is there any way to customize this?
i want the ryzen ai 9 model but if i get ryzen i need to get rtx 4060 model. so what you think which is good? rtx 4060 with ryzen 9 ai or intel ultra 9 with rtx 4070
Hi Kevin, I am waiting for black friday to get the 4080, but do you think i should wait for the Lunar Lake version next year? I know the battery life will probably be better on the new one, but not sure if it will be more powerful of a CPU
You might want to check out the newly-released AMD versions of the G16 2024, running the new Ryzen 9 AI HX CPUs. Early reviews show that they've got a nice boost of performance over the Intel version I showed here, and significant advantages in battery life. They only go up to the RTX 4070 though, so you might want to account for that.
@@KevinEvangelista yes Im aware, 4070 is a HUGE deal breaker, tri-fan system sucks and will still be somewhat weaker compared to other 4070 laptops like Legion 7i, the only point of buying G16 2024 imo is to get the 4080/90
@@JT11111 there will be no lunar lake version. If they release a new one it will probably be the 50 series plus arrow lake. Lunar lake can not be combined with a dedicated gpu. I personally am waiting for the next year I want arrow lake plus 5090. And probably a faster wifi card from the next generation this one is still from generation 6 not 7
@@Smiles216 how do you know? They’ve released a new G14 & G16 every January/February, and Lunar Lake has just been released, so I cant imagine them skipping this window. Also the current G16 has upgradable wifi card, so its easy to replace it to a higher version, not that 7 makes much difference over 6E
I just picked one up with the intel ultra + 4080. If you can get one on deep sale, this or the 4090 is the one to get. If you don’t mind the 4070, then the amd version is one to get. Yes we can wait and see if Lunar Lake will be implemented but who knows? It’s plenty fast. I was very lucky, got mine on deep sale with 32 gob ram and 1 tb ssd with the 4080 for $2100.
Thanks for the review. I personally HATE the number pad on laptops. Moves the keyboard off centre which doesn't make any sense to me. I wish they'd have different options for this across laptops. Was very tempted by the Lenovo Pro 7i but I don't think I can handle the numpad 😆
@@jwave13 that's fair! A good middle ground would be the touchpad numpad ASUS uses on their other model lines like the STRIX and the Zenbooks-- it doesn't move the keyboard off-kilter, and you can toggle it off and on as needed. But for some reason they don't carry it over to most of the Zephyrus models though!
Hi. I was wondering if I can connect the thunderbolt 4 with my monitor (3440x1440 165hz Odyssey G5 34" UW) using a thunderbolt 4 to dp2.1 cable. So can you confirm if I can get 165hz running on my monitor? (Even if it runs the 4070 through the igpu) in ultimate /standard /eco armory crate what would be the difference between the refresh rates and usability with the thunderbolt 4, the other usb c port(right) or HDMI?
Yes, you can connect the Thunderbolt 4 to DP2.1 and it will run at 165Hz-- although I can't be entirely sure if the Zephyrus G16 supports a DP2.1 signal, since it doesn't state on any documentation, I have to assume it's running on DP1.4. Either way, it will still run 3440x1440 at 165Hz. As for the modes, the only change that you'll see is in Eco mode-- this disables the dedicated GPU, so you won't have any Displayport or HDMI output from the laptop, only the laptop screen will be enabled. Standard runs both, and Ultimate just runs the dedicated GPU exclusively.
@@KevinEvangelista will the right side USB c (connected to dGPU 4070) and HDMI (idk what this is connected to) give only 4k 120hz? Also what is mux and how does it affect this?
Good review overall. But your gaming benchmark choices dont really show the good and bad. Forza is always going to run and look nice on most versions of this laptop.
Got it! I'm actually fielding suggestions for new titles to add / swap into the benchmark roster. I know for sure that the Black Myth Wukong benchmark tool will be in it. Got any suggestions?
Only gripe with this new zephyrus are the price 😂 Honestly had it as my choice but i dont feel splurging another 40k (4060 model) from the 100k strix g16 i currently bought just this week. Maybe if they went full amd they could cut the price lower? Who knows
Nice to see you again! Lots of great videos on the way-- ROG Tessen, MSI Claw, AORUS FO32U2P... and a few more small stuff here and there. See you in those videos too!

Great review. The one thing that bugged me is the fact that screen wobbled during the entire review. That sucks.

@@KevinEvangelistaappreciate the benchmarking with AI performance included. Too many reviews ignore that

Are these temperatures when using a stand, or flat on your desk?
All temp testing was done flat on my desk, with a cloth mousepad underneath.
Is it okay for architecture 3d rendering?
Oh, absolutely.
Can you review the gaming of the book 4 ultra samsung with the RTX 4070 ? Also I wish Samsung put those speakers on the ultra
