i love how diverse the photos you pick to superimpose on the video are in terms of both the styles and the bodies of the people wearing the clothes, where you show that literally anyone can pull these trends off
Yes, and as a plus-size myself, I can say that it does not feel like: "Oh, I must be inclusive, so here... insert random picture" -but actually, it is seems to be very mindful of a thoughtful and focused on a broad representation.
“the best way to tell your real style is what you loved as a kid” SO TRUE. to this day i find myself quickly getting over trends & colors of the moment just to gravitate back towards the frilly&dark&ultralayered looks that fascinated me in 80s movies as a kid (which i was never allowed to wear 💀… my mom was anti-goth). i also feel like i gravitate towards these things a remnant of my childhood love of fantasy… at last, with adult money, i can dress like im going on a QUEST
Yess came here to comment this! I've used this method to decide whether or not I should buy something for years, if you liked it then and still do its unlikely you'll change your mind about it. I've always loved the alt girlies in movies as a kid, I remember being so young and so excited to be allowed to wear pocket chains and massive cargos or dress like a witch and to this day I'm hopelessly torn between mall goth and whimsigoth but thats the beauty of personal style-i can be both!
I’m doing all these trends - plaid skirts, fair isle sweaters, sporty academic, big scarves… it’s crazy to think about us all leaning towards them unconsciously, like howwwwww
@@beepwrldit probably has to do with everything else happening in the world right now and our collective consciousness?? Give us a big brain™️ video liz!!
Hello i just wanted to say that i am really happy that in your videos you include different body types and people of different ethnicities, i't so nice feeling represented whithout any jugement, especialy in the fashion sphere. Thank you so luch for that
fair isle as a trend is so funny to me as the child of an passionate & prolific knitter 💀 i don’t think there’s a single garment my mother won’t try to put fair isle onto
omg beepworld potentially becoming a crochet/knit girlie???? that is so exciting you should definitely get into it! when you mentioned fair isle knits I also got really excited because knits in general have been trending in MY world recently!! (probably because I spend so much time looking at knitting inspo, but it still counts haha) good luck with your crochet/knit endeavours! xx (also big yes to the personal style vs. trends video you mentioned!!!) 🤍🤍🤍
I'm very excited to try it but also intimidated!! Definitely wont be doing fair isle any time soon hahah but I cant wait to try out something simple:)) Thank you for the good luck!!
I have a vintage plaid midi skirt I wear with a rugby shirt and it's totally old school collegiate vibes. Also it's a wrap skirt so it's got a bit of asymmetry! I will now dub it my beepworld outfit because we are on the same wavelength!
My mom used to wear a big pashmina drapped over her shoulders over top of her winter dress coat. The coat was deep navy and the scarf was full of virbrant jewel tones and had a tassle edge. It was so fabulous. It can be hard to dress up our outerwear in really cold climates but thats definitely one way.
I love what you said about collegiate style!! I have always loathed preppy style but you somehow showed and described a version I can totally get behind! I have been finding sooo many stinking cute long plaid skirts in the most gorgeous colourways at the thrift store/markets, but alas they've all been way way too small. :')
I definitely prefer more dark academia styles over the preppy ones. There is something cozy about sweater vests and button downs with slacks or plaid skirts
As a kid in the 90s - I loved wearing cargo pants, leggings, skorts and chunky tennis shoes. I remember this teal plaid skort that my mom made me - it had a wrap front. I would wear it today if I had it
Interested in what you have to say about personal style and trends! And I've always been into preppy/collegiate style but I also never liked the formality and stiffness of it, so a colourful take is very welcome. I've been obsessed with crocheting jumpers and vests (specifically green and blue ones) so it'd fit right into that haha
The ‘camera bag’ trend you mention has been super popular for about 1,5 years in the Netherlands/Western Europe! Soooo…. You are not imagining the trend, I think it’s coming your way! ;)
Oh man, I always get so excited when I see your videos pop up. Your style and takes on fashion are inspiring and reletable even if your style is different from mine. And what you said about style as a kid? So true! The more confident I get the more I gravitate towards the styles I loved as a child. Keep up the great work, and as always, thank you so much for your wide variety of reference pics!
Ooh, I did get all excited when I saw plaid skirts on the trend lists, just since I've got two waiting in the wings for their moment to shine. I don't know about the strap thing being a trend either, but we're certainly on the same wavelength- I actually replaced two of my bag straps for older bags I don't wear with with heftier ones last month. Playing around with scarves also seems like it'd be a lot of fun, so hoping I see lots of good inspo this year!
Plaid is everything!! And asymmetry is so much fun! Yeah, the childhood things still ring true. Some of my favourite clothing items were a frilly navy sailor dress and a light yellow princess dress. As an adult my favourite colour is pastel yellow and I really love sailor collars and hems, frills and tulle skirts.. Also I can see the influence of my favourite childhood tv show (The Winx Club) in how many pairs of over the knee socks I own and have owned. Not to mention how the whole arm and leg warmer trend of recent years made me dig up all my old ones from my childhood and teen years. Not that they were too deep down, because it's cold here and I also dance. And then I realised my mum has been crazy in love with leg warmers her whole life as well, we have soooooo many of them :DD
I love a trend that's just a specific color combo or ratio, especially since usually you can accomplish it with stuff that's already in your closet or getting one new piece from a thrift store, and it's really accommodating to different body shapes dress styles
I was in my teen and 20s when preppy styles were popular in the 80s. It's great to see it is coming back but more with an edge. I also love the fair isle sweaters and I picked up a few at the thrift store recently. Re: the big scarves, the look reminds me of the pashminas that were popular in the 90s and 2000s, but I do have some ponchos that I had picked up at the thrift store last year
I love red, plaid, and fair isle. Love that you change your outfit to discuss each trend. I also had to laugh as my winter purse has a thick strap that's a leopard print -- looks a lot like yours except for the pattern of the strap. I also love shawls.
The saying that all trends eventually come back around is very true. Many of the “new” styles, colors, trends are re-runs with a twist: being seen through the eyes of the latest generation. I have many of the styles in this video from the last go round, and had kept them because they were “me” (still are). I think the key to keeping “old” fashion items fresh is the willingness to add, subtract or modify within whatever is current. Also as you have stated, being honest with yourself if it’s something you truly like and will wear more than a season or just that you’ve been overexposed to it in social media.
Wait yes please!! A video about the intersection of personal style and trends! 'Personal style' is soooo influenced by what is popular, whether intended or not. Anyone with interesting personal style in a certain era still looked like they were in that era. David Bowie, grace jones, Cyndi Lauper, Joan Jett are good 80s examples. Not shortage of others in other eras too. Any other examples you all can think of? @beepworld, maybe we need a fashion history vid!? It's also reliant on what you have access to - Obvi cost and availability but also region (fashion trends vary across the globe and the next block over) - If you're buying new, you're limited to buying basically only what's "trendy" (unless you shop individual creators) - If you buy secondhand, you have slightly more selection because you can shop the trends of the last *several* decades. Even secondhand is getting harder because clothing has declined in quality so much. Less and less of the previous decade's trends even make it to the thrift store. The high volume of newer, cheaply made items crowd the store and it's getting rarer to find higher quality pieces. Let's trade instead!
I’m a little late to commenting on this video but I think it’s so funny that you mention being subtly influenced and participating in trends without knowing. About a year ago, I realized instagram and tik tok were making me really depressed and so I deleted them. I was also excited to see how my sense of personal style could evolve without consuming so much fashion and trend related content! And I’ve been having so much fun with it and feeling really able to flex my own creativity. But then I watched this video and pretty much every single trend you listed (blokecore, giant scarves, collegiate vibes) are EXACTLY what I’ve been wearing it literally flabbergasted me. I guess even without directly consuming trend content I’m still being influenced 😅 or maybe we just have similar fashion sense! Anyway, love the vid and happy to keep following along!
omg this is so interesting, thank you for sharing!!! I'm sure it's a combo of personal taste and of seeing marketing and branded images everywhere even outside of social media!! I sometimes forget fashion trends were just as powerful (if slower moving) before social media haha. Either way sounds like you have great taste & I'm glad you enjoyed the video
I'm so glad I found your channel! Its so hard to find fashion you-tubers that I resonate with or am interested in long term. Your videos are so well made and inciting!
Thaaank you once more for putting the work in to make your inspo pics such a diverse collection. Love it - and it gives me so many new ideas. And +1 for the potential video you mentioned. All the best!
The new hey asymmetrical skirt is the new high - low and I’m here for it. Yes a vid over the influence of trends !!! Also is ur Etsy in the description ? And Goddard is also jimmy neutrons robo dog
lol it really is and I'm here for it too! I was never had at the high low. Also yes my Etsy is linked in the description! & LOL that is an important fact thank you for sharing that
I love how the trends here have so much overlap and can be combined so intuitively! They seem to build off each other in a sense I rarely get from other trend lists, bravo! Also this past weekend I made a massive scarf/shawl thing out of a thrifted wool throw blanket with big orange flowers on it and I'm obsessed with it! It had tons of pilling, but I brushed out the texture with a clothes brush, making the wool super soft and fluffy! And it's cut on the corner so it looks like a shawl with the triangle of the corner in the back or on the side, but then it wraps, ties, and styles like a big fuzzy scarf. I feel like it hits this perfect sweet spot of wearable, practical, cozy, yet also trendy, statement-y and pretty!
Love your style and your focus on second-hand clothing and rewearing our already-owned clothes! I personally like it when trends are more about a vibe (ex- collegiate) than specific items. While I don't have a long plaid skirt, I do have a red plaid mini skirt (the most basic of red tartans) and I've always struggled to wear it because I'm afraid I will be read as "sexy schoolgirl" rather than "alt-fashion girlie" :| I'll try to lean into the preppy and see how it goes!
I'm an alt fashion girlie and plaid skirts are my favorite! If that's what you're going for it's as easy as throwing on a graphic/band tee! For fall I love sweaters/long sleeves with a plaid skirt & graphic over the sweater, keeps the sweater+plaid skirt from feeling too preppy. Accessories also go a long way, big chunky boots, lots of layered silver jewelry, fun punky hairstyles etc
I’d be super interested in a video on trends vs personal style. I’ve always thought of trends as primarily the province of the young (not in a derogatory way, more like a life phase way?). I don’t buy clothes very often, but I also know that as I get older I wear the clothes I own differently because I’m feeling it’s more and more important to look “put together.” Would be super interested to hear your thoughts!
Totally interested in the video idea you mentioned. Your thoughts are always interesting! Love the new bag. I've had success shortening the strap and using that style of bag as a fanny pack, too. So just one other way to style it possibly! Thanks for a great video!
So inspired by the first look that I woke up today and put on a button-up and a fun vest! RE: the preppy/collegiate convo, I HIGHLY recommend the podcast 'Articles of Interest'. The second season is all about the history of Prep and it's fascintaing! So much more complicated that you'd ever expect! Fab video as always, Beep! I so appreciate the weekly inspo!
the first bag in the camera bag trends is done by polish designer Chylak and it was so so so popular in Warsaw around 3 years ago I think it's done for now 😂
Ooo a tsunami of ideas there..love the red and purple scarf, love the plaid skirts esp pinned up in lots of places, just like your skirt. Am wearing a lovely fluffy cowl neck sweater at the mo. Polished my boots for Autumn and Winter and dug out my big scarves, all set! Merci 💃
I have been seeing capes all over my feed! Which I am so happy about because in July I thrifted two beautiful vintage capes ❤ I am so looking forward to wearing them once the south cools dow.
Hi😊 I'm new here. Just wanted to pop up to say apart of your entertaining fashion commentary and styling yourself to the discussing feature accordingly i REALLY appreciate your inclusivity in example pictures. It is not that easy to curate your feed to see representation of various human bodies and cultures. And i'm really thankful to creators like you who take time to find pictures to represent whole spectrum of us.
3:50 it's funny you say this because rugby shirts are everywhere in the men's sections of my local thrift stores! maybe because i live in a very rural area that lags on trends and so dudes are tossing their rugby shirts lol
Dang, as a child I was really into my school uniform, plaid, white socks, moccasins ☺️ but now as an old lady, I feel silly if I wear anything that resembles a uniform. 😅
i’ve been doing the drapey skirt thing for a minute! mostly bc i hate how long skirts w nothing going on look on me haha but glad to see so much more inspo😍
If you decide to learn to crochet or knit I would start with crochet bc it was easier for me to learn out of the two. There are so many free patterns/tutorials videos on youtube as well that is how I learned ❤
As a sociologist I am thoroughly into the interplay between the self and society through fashion. Also an observation: the rugby shirts and fair-isle are both kinda stripes! I am definitely feeling stripes for Fall, and all kinds of them. And I posit the red and brown is also Winnie the Pooh, a very fun fashion icon. Thanks for this super great post! 🖤🖤🖤
I saw a green button up with white stripes like the one you are wearing at my local thrift store a few days ago and still regret I haven`t bought it. But love it with your red hair!
Would LOVE you to make a video about the over simplification in the trends vs personal style discourse....it's something that's always on my mind when ppl are talking about clothes, especially my fellow millennials lol
Would love to hear your take on personal style vs trends! I made a video on it recently, though I discussed more the effect of trends on us, but would love to hear your thoughts! And yes, the sportier/cozier take on academia is way more practical for everyday wear and I utilize it a lot 💕
A question for @beepworld or beepworld citizens!! Has there been a video showcasing shoes that should be staples in a new fashion girlie's closet? I have 2 pairs of converse, vans, a pair of black chelsea booties, and a pink pair of dr martens (as well as snow boots, summer sandals, and heels i wore to my proms lol). I'm interested in the 70s/ gogo boots look but scared to branch out of my comfort zone. I feel like my options are slim due to my wide calves and painful toe sitch (bunions at 20yrs old due to standing on my toes my whole life) but align with beepworld's style so much! Much love
hello!! Firstly I love this questions and "beepworld citizens" hehehe Secondly: I have not made this video but I'll have to consider it! So many cuter shoes are painful already and it sounds like the effect would be much worse for you!! For now I will say my go-to shoes for both style and everyday comfort are platform combat boots and platform loafers:)
I love the different reference photos and different bodies represented in your videos❤ where do you get them?? I look at Pinterest but it's not as diverse 😢
You sometimes mention "influenced by" as it may have a slight negative connotation. I prefer "inspired by" which you also say. It's not like everything that is pushed through social is going to be your taste but some things just are good and you can't help it.
I can get behind the asymmetrical skirts, camera bag/strap, and drapey scarves. I love fur ponchos, by thr way. But the rest of those trends are not for me. I think we must have such different style types 😅😅😅
Those big scarfs and shawls remind me of rebozos! It’s a Mexican garment traditionally worn by women. I wonder if that’s where the designers are getting their influence.
for anyone reading this please turn your eye to the genocide happening in palestine right now , they need us and we need to come together out of kindness and love to help them and raise awareness ❤️🇵🇸
i love how diverse the photos you pick to superimpose on the video are in terms of both the styles and the bodies of the people wearing the clothes, where you show that literally anyone can pull these trends off
Yes, and as a plus-size myself, I can say that it does not feel like: "Oh, I must be inclusive, so here... insert random picture" -but actually, it is seems to be very mindful of a thoughtful and focused on a broad representation.
We love to see a “people (of all sizes) have style” and not “thank me because I found one plus size picture okay”!!
I came here to say this but knew in my heart it had been said already

I would llooove a personal style v fashion trends video
re: individual taste vs trends - please make a video on it omg i would love to hear your thoughts!
Merci 💃
I’m happy pleated skirts are coming back! I have always loved them and now maybe I can find some!
I have been seeing capes all over my feed! Which I am so happy about because in July I thrifted two beautiful vintage capes ❤ I am so looking forward to wearing them once the south cools dow.
personal style vs trends video pls🗣️🗣️🗣️ i know you’re gonna have some hot takes
I love your channel definitely help keep fashion fun in a post Covid, returning to corporate utilitarian world
Loved this! Knitters will be celebrating the shawls & big scarves!
I live in Norway and it's so funny to see fair isle as a "trend" 😅
4:22 i’m literally wearing a long plaid skirt right now lmao
Thank you
Very excited that my mohair poncho I use in the dead of winter will be back in style this year
OMG THE LITTLE HAMTARO ON THE MIC >
Dang, as a child I was really into my school uniform, plaid, white socks, moccasins ☺️ but now as an old lady, I feel silly if I wear anything that resembles a uniform. 😅
love the pokeball painting in the back!
Please please pleaseeee make a personal style vs trends
i’ve been doing the drapey skirt thing for a minute! mostly bc i hate how long skirts w nothing going on look on me haha but glad to see so much more inspo😍
That rugby shirt was every Abercrombie and fitch and American eagle shirt in 2002 it was just called a polo back then lmao
So funny when I heard the cars I said “oh I experience the same all the time🙄” & then I see that you live in DC too 🤭😂
Would love to hear your take on personal style vs trends!
Much love
hello!! Firstly I love this questions and "beepworld citizens" hehehe
Secondly: I have not made this video but I'll have to consider it! So many cuter shoes are painful already and it sounds like the effect would be much worse for you!!
For now I will say my go-to shoes for both style and everyday comfort are platform combat boots and platform loafers:)
Girl you are ahead of the trends ❤
I love the different reference photos and different bodies represented in your videos❤ where do you get them?? I look at Pinterest but it's not as diverse 😢
Sorry! I just looked at the description and found them you're an angel 💝😇💝
everytime i think about rugby shirts i think about the red and blue one ladybird had
I love all the looks you pull!!
I have had a rugby shirt in my ebay cart for months...It was originally for my son but now I think I might need to add one for myself as well...
you could match!!
I live in Wisconsin too😎 Thanks for representing ❤️
Thanks, beep! ❤️
Also it’s just been the rugby World Cup which is maybe why the rugby jerseys are a bit more popular right now :)
❤️❤️im so addicted to your channel ❤️❤️😌❤️
omg thank you!! I'm honored
You sometimes mention "influenced by" as it may have a slight negative connotation. I prefer "inspired by" which you also say. It's not like everything that is pushed through social is going to be your taste but some things just are good and you can't help it.
shouting "grow up" at a loud car is so real hahaha I laughed out loud ^^
Mexicans with rebozos hearing you say “I’ve never seen anyone do this before” 👁️👄👁️
Loving the inclusivity in the inspo photos 😌✨
Lovelovelove all the different bodies you included!!
Thank you for saying this!!! We must support Palestine however we can
I NEED to know where she got that fair isle sweater
it's thrifted, originally liz claiborne!!
Omg hiii :)
hello!! happy to see u here! :)
Lol 4:03 that's just a school uniform in the UK 😂 edit: most of these 'styles' are just uk school uniform.
arent rugby shirts just long sleeved polo shirts? i am confused by the difference
The painting behind you makes me think of a poké ball lol
LOL someone else said the same thing!
reminds me of a Rothko@@beepwrld
@@cjtzioumis686 it's a rothko poster!
there's a Rothko right next to a Kline in the Cincinnati art museum, its my favorite spot to visit there@@beepwrld
At this moment, I'm just wearing my father's clothes 👍
