While in the air after a Falling Shadow you can also press X+A for a quick plunging attack that does cutting damage, in fact, you don't even have to hit the falling shadow to perform it. It's good for canceling the falling shadow, grounding yourself quickly and cutting tails.
Much in-depth and on point detailed explanation about core fundamental and essence of the Sword and Shield, some I never thought of and some I never even once come across after watching countless YT videos. Your's fill me in with critical point and help me to pick up some of the most amazing skill that would be game changing, It made up a whole world of understanding of possibilities to pull up even more strategy, movement and combo set. Please keep up your amazing videos and phenomenal work.
Great guide, I like that you’ve updated it for 2023, and how you focus more on the theory rather than the individual combos. It promotes better critical thinking on the player.
Thank you! I feel that everyone should be allowed to develop their own combos and play style, so I've been trying to show people all the options they have to work with!
I honestly didn't know the sword and shield had a counter whatsoever! Mind blown! Thanks for the not only informative, but entertaining videos! Keep being the wonderful human you are!
Thank you so much for this. I started this game and jumped immediately into charge blade and mastered that only for my brain to become super super smooth because I had no idea how to use sns. Thanks again
Good tutorial, just quick tip is that while using PR if you time your input with the flashes that you do huge damage. Also keep in mind where the hitzones you wanna smack a monster half of the hits in PR are also with the shield. And spinning reaper can be used in any direction you input!
i think the best answer to the "what is the best weapon," is a question, "how much resources do you want to commit, how much do you want to math/theorycraft?" the general rule in my experience is, basic raw for early game, affinity for "unga bunga, i just want one gearset for every single hunt," and elemental(+affinity for extra credit) for absolute dps.
a very sum up of how weapon works. Tho gonna add that, Perfect Rush deal increase damage if you press the buttons just as the red blink comes up. So it's not encouraged to button mash it, but to learn the rhythm of it for maximum damage.
10:12 When you say "Spinning Reaper ends the combo", I was wondering what you mean, exactly? You can easily backstep right out of the Spinning Reaper into a Perfect Rush or a Charged Slash -> Scaling Slash --> Falling Shield Bash. Much like the Long Sword's stances, you can effectively chain any combination in the game into a backstep. This video has been pretty helpful to me so far. I appreciate you putting it together.
Very cool tutorial video. I main HH and secondary bow, while my partner mains LBG. They've been wanting to branch out into blademaster and I think S&S would be up their alley, will absolutely be having them watch this!
Nice tips video but you forgot to mention the most important thing about sns is all the s it has with back hop and the s during sliding slice. Sns has some of the best s in the game. Experience sns players hardly guard unless your using embolden from sunbreak which allows you to guard slash counter almost every attack. Back hop attacks and go straight into offensive with charged back hop or perfect rush and you don't have to finish the perfect rush move set as it is a trap to get hit unless the monster is down for a long duration of time. Sunbreak nerfed perfect rush as most times you won't be able to finish the move set before the monster attacks. Sns is my favorite weapon in mh and mh rise and sunbreak just made it better besides the nerf to perfect rush.
Over time, as I gained experience as a hunter, I developed a great respect for SnS. Maybe because in most games the hunter starts equipped with it, it may have given it the undue reputation as a "weak, starter weapon", which is a preconception that maybe people carry from most other games. Will you cover other weapons? I always used GS and pretty much learned on my own, love the weapon honestly.
I used the sword and shield for the first time in the arena and the monster could barely touch me I think it might be the next weapon I experiment with. Or the dual blades
I played mh4u, world and nowand although i got curious using sns in world i didnt pick it up but now in rise i saw some randoms using it and it locks fun to use it and now they pretty much they fricking make the shoryuken emote from world a counter and a súper dps move thats insane just one question i want to make an elemental build and i was wondering is not necesario using elemental gems whit sns?
That depends on who you ask. Most people will probably tell you shield, shield, shield, spin slash. But there is more than one good basic combo for every weapoin.
On pc, to use an item with S&S I have to hit X but that sheathes, so I don’t know how to use an item with weapon unsheathed? Can you please help? Also I can’t seem to find your beginner guide
1. Shield slash does not block everything, it block only a few light attacks with only guard. Shield slash counter most of the monster attack only when you have emboden + guard in your build. 2. Perfect rush is not about spamming or slowing it down. It’s about the rhythm to proc the true damage. 3. Just forget about charge attack, honestly it’s not worth it for the motion value. Yes it’s very good in mh world, but not in rise. Do infinite combo O O XO instead. 4. Sliding slash is good but it’s main purpose is to access to scaling slash for the iflame it has. Generally it require a lot more experience to use this move. 5. In terms of mobility advancing slash definitely much more mobile compare to sliding slash. 6. Drill slash is only good for elemental damage. But yeah sorry with my bad english but i do agree with you on “most importantly you have fun”.
And maybe one more point is that, unique features for sns is that you can use items while unsheathed. This is important as one of the core combo for sns AKA the bomb metsu. If want to dive abit deeper on this, you can pretty much become a support with “wide range” skill.
@@MrTonyloo1994 Thank you for all the advanced tips! These are all good information for taking your SNS gameplay to the next level. None of them, however, correct mistakes that I made in the video!
heey guys is there any way to transmorg gear sets cause the only gear set i can put in the layered equipment section is the guild cross set and since its best to mix up gear sets because of the passive skills you can get from it and now i am running around in a mixed gear set 2barroth 2 bariaths and 1 ingot for lv4 crit eye lv3 attack and lv1 defense but my character looks ridiculous now hahaha XD also is that possible for your pets equipment?

And sliding slash has a tight just like DB's demon flight when it hits monster.

Warm, positive, and encouraging. Bob Ross of Monster Hunter. Great guide, thanks. Think I’ll try SnS today.

In Rise I call it "shield and sword" 😁 Favorite weapon, by far 👍 Nice video, man.
No I can't figure out the third perfect rush finisher that's why I clicked on the tutorial 😅
I like your voice and your performance very much. It reminds me of Murakami masaki character in the anime called the Guyver!! 🔥
FINALLY A TUTORIAL FOR SWORD AND SHIELD!
Looks like you can start playing it again!
Yessss c: although I'm trying out a new weapon right now so more tutorials would be awesome

This is helpful to me since I am going to try out the Sword & Shield
I clicked this video because of the amazing thumbnail if only the other channels had thumbnails this good.
Thanks dude for the guide! First time using this weapon ever since MHW. Learning it ever since i got the Akuma layered armor haha

Thx for the step by step video. I really want to master sns. Been using bows and ls since the psp days 😵
It seems after a guard slash if you hit b for perfect rush it's much more commitment then if you hit y for the perfect rush.
Yo I never even knew back hop had I-frames, that's good to know

Very very good tutorial for sns..now i need to master this weapon.hoping to master this weapon.
Start by mastering the back step. Then you'll be invincible and can learn everything else so much easier!
Hell yes and is the best to use for the rest of the campaign.
These guides are fire.
TY for making this up to date guide! Love the order you showed the information. Great teaching. Subbed, notified, and shared with my MH community

yup! i'm working on tutorials for every weapon! let's hope I get them all done in time...
@@iixxion Looking forward to those!

I rarely use SnS in rise/sunbreak I didn't realize they didn't include helm breaker from world
They did. He simply didn't/doesn't know it exists.
Very helpful
We need advanced guides!
Is ball life? Lemme see ya step back!
F.Y.I. you're not using the perfect rush perfectly. No pun intended if you time the flash you'll do more damage. It's been like that since Iceborne.
The real tips are in the comments! Thank you!
S&S and lance weapons are the only ones I didn’t use on World so I wanted to go into rise with a new weapon… can’t believe I never used it before lol

whenever playing elemental weapon, try to get elem +5!
are the buttons for xbox or the switch controller?

Yes, you can forge layered armor! gotta unlock the feature i think tho...
@@iixxion oke my guess is it has to be tied with the hunter rank then but thanks for the response
