As a kayak fisherman it’s amazing the kind of complicated messes we can get in. It’s enjoyable to see someone else get into a total cluster other than me. Good vid.
So sorry you didn't get a big Flathead. But the chaotic mess with that Gar looked like a total blast! Sometimes the unexpected moments are the best. As usual thanks a bunch for sharing!
That gator gar footage was VERY fun to watch (actually watched it twice). Great content! The unexpected catch, pull from the bank, and snag were super engaging. In some ways, more exciting than a straightforward catch of a large kitty.
I wouldnt worry about not being able to show off the fish... I wouldve done the same thing you did. Just getting to see that monster take you on a ride was good enough for me! I don't know what exactly it is about this video, but I loved it! Possibly the fact that you were somewhere new on some skinny water in the backwoods of who knows where with monsters lurking just gave this video the feel I am always lookin for! Great video, loved every minute!
the explorative creek adventures are really great, dont care if you dont catch any cats let alone a giant anything. It's really interesting to see what lives in there and what is gonna chew. Awesome job
Just before you talked about it, I was thinking how well the new rod was handling the pressure. Great to see and thanks for taking us along on another adventure. Loved the look of that spillway at the start too.
I caught your video an hour after you posted and then life got in the way. Was glad to see you took the smart move and was careful of the situation. You did the smart thing. It is scary to know you are out there by yourself and accidents happen. Don't ever put your self at risk for a fish or a video. It was one of the exciting times. Thank you, and thanks for staying safe.
You would have needed some rope and probably some help to land that gar. Amazing you didn’t get turned over by that monster. I’d say you reacted well for being unprepared for such an event. You said you were going light and fast I believe when you set out ! I enjoyed watching much more than I would have liked being in your shoes. 👍👍👍
Awesome trip Spencer. You will have plenty of chance this year for more flattys. I gotta get my butt out there. Caught a couple bluegills today and been hitting the creeks trying to get back into it. That river is just rough without a motor. Anyway. Tight lines brother 💪🏼
Bro I’d love to know what your thinking when you are floating down: - what signs are you looking for? For flatheads on that type of creek. - do you fish the backsides of the stopped up areas where it may be deeper pockets?
Man I was hopin that was a 100lb flathead. Still gonna be my favorite outta all your videos I've seen n I've been watching ya for @least a few years. Awesome trip Spence, thanks for takin us along!!!
I've started "dabbling" with fly fishing for carp. I have NEVER been able to just walk up to them like that though. They spook so easy here in Utard land.
@ 16:14 Ya gotta love a good sleigh ride on unfamiliar waters! 🎣🤣👍🏼WOOHOO! That really was quite a dilemma being caught between a snagged pole and a prehistoric river monster. 🥴 Good times! Thanks for sharing. 👍🏼
Man that's a beautiful looking river. I have a tributary off the main river in my county that sets up almost identically, just flatter terrain. Blues don't go up it too much but BIG flatheads on narrow water logjams
You're always good for a pleasant surprise Spence, just glad you didn't go for a swim when she went under you. Especially with the other pole snagged in the brush, and not being able to float freely behind her. Made excellent content for BloopTube though, and I'm fairly certain that your heart rate quadrupled instantly. Stay safe
The pond is so small. It's like putting a boat into a bathtub. But I can see there aren't a lot of good places to stand on the bank. I wouldn't have thought there would be any good sized fish in such a small pond.
Those are the kinda fights that make you fall in love with a new species. I was on Saint Clair smallmouth fishing when a mid 40s musky t-boned a smallmouth off my line, never looked at bass fishing the same way again. $5,000 in musky gear later here we are.
You handled that Gar pretty well for someone who doesn't know how to land them solo. But it's like they say, "Better safe than sorry." Good job on the rods, too. When do they go on sale?😉
Take you a heavy duty catfish stringer, loop one in through it. Lasso the gars mouth hold on to that while you drag him in by the tail and the rope or stringer. His armor can cut you just as bad as his teeth If you handle them out of the water, keep them on the ground, in the water. Just be safe. You're at the mercy of his mouth. Love watching your videos man. You're not the reason why I wanted to start kayak fishing, but you're the only one I could find that does it the way I want to. So your videos are really inspirational and a big help. I've always catfished from the bank in areas like that and always had to walk a country mile, river monsters is the one that got me searching for big shovel head and creeks and small rivers. I never like kayak, fishing the way the others do it. Lakes and oceans. I've always been a catfish guy and I've always wanted to combine my canoeing with my catfishing and since I got a kayak I wanted to combine the two. You're the only person I could find it does that? So you've really show me a lot of pointers that I need and I appreciate everything you've shown and I'm happy everything is going as good as it has for you. I remember you when you just had 36 followers lol. Could be wrong about the number but it was very many lol. Think it was about 2 years before you got your boat lmao
Well, no one would say a thing about being smart in that situation with handling one of those monsters. And, you were looking for a big one you got it! Not the kind you were looking for but big fish are still fun! And a little chaotic sometimes. That’s the part of spice that keeps you wanting to go back among other things! Good video! Cool place to fish too!
Another wonderful video Spencer. I enjoyed watching. Glad that Alligator Gar didn't use his sharp teeth on ya. At the same time I'm quite sure he was a lot of fun. You take care and stay safe. God bless.
Don’t apologize for showing the struggles of kayak fishing. People should know that it’s not always pretty and you gotta keep your cool so you don’t tip. Good job. Nice catch.
@@RiverCertified I enjoyed the video because you didn’t doctor it up to make yourself look better and you demonstrated the importance of keeping calm when something goes wrong. I’ve been in a similar situation, although not with a fish that massive, and it almost ended badly. And who hasn’t forgotten their pliers before? 😂
Great fishing small places ! Omg I hate my reel going in water too . Man that hurt me seeing lol 😂 I’m same exact way with that . Normally does nothing but when it causes your fishing day to end bc it locks up boy is that a bummer always happens when your ripping the fish out lol
Epic video. I have dreamed of catching alligator gar. You are an awesome fisherman, and I look forward to each of your videos. I would love to meet you and share a fishing bank with you.
You should "butterfly" those big shad. Basically, you just cut the skeleton out, leaving the filets connected to the head. Bro, when I tell its FAR more effective than just cutting them up, it's FAAAAAR more effective.
Gator gar are no joke if you are not familiar with how to handle them. Most of the creeks off of that river hold them. If you are where I think you are.. Gators too. Not to scare you but a record Gator was snatching livestock bout 10 yrs ago not far from that area. 15fter lol Fun video..
That was GREAT 😃👍 I'd love to see you tackle up for them and go with a few more guys, to catch a real BIG one!! Please 🙏🙏🙏. Tight lines old son; see you next time! 😃👴
I was fishing from a boat one evening and watching one of your videos and the biggest fish I successfully landed with a net alone was a 10lb blue if I remember correctly
Let me tell you what that gar took off and yanked that spike out my heart started beating lol. That was awesome to watch!!!! I bank fish a lot of creeks and rivers for cats in north central Ohio and I can only hope something would take my line out like that! That’s totally different then a cat taking the bait and running! Again awesome video today man!!!
As a kayak fisherman it’s amazing the kind of complicated messes we can get in. It’s enjoyable to see someone else get into a total cluster other than me. Good vid.
Yup! I always think if I don't break anything, don't loose anything and don't hurt myself it's been a good day of kayak fishing!! Lol
Honestly that's some of the most fun for me. Thanks for watching!
@@RiverCertified That was 1 BIG GAR you
latched on never thought they got that big.
So sorry you didn't get a big Flathead. But the chaotic mess with that Gar looked like a total blast! Sometimes the unexpected moments are the best. As usual thanks a bunch for sharing!
Thanks!
Thanks a ton man!
Thanks for taking us along for the ride Spencer
Boy oh boy fishing is fun when your chillin on the bank edge then just yanked in to the river an draged all around
You ain't kidding haha
Nerves of steel! That thang took you for a ride! Love the vid and would like to see more small creek adventures.
That gator gar footage was VERY fun to watch (actually watched it twice). Great content! The unexpected catch, pull from the bank, and snag were super engaging. In some ways, more exciting than a straightforward catch of a large kitty.

Awesome video as always thanks for taking us along Spencer, hope ya catch a giant
When Spencer says:"surprising monster" it's not clickbait.
I try my best not to do that. I suppose perspective plays a big part haha

I try my best to play it safe in unfamiliar situations like that. If it happens again, I have a plan for it now. Hopefully I get another shot.
You would have needed some rope and probably some help to land that gar. Amazing you didn’t get turned over by that monster. I’d say you reacted well for being unprepared for such an event. I loved this video! An excellent adventure hooking a dinosaur and safely releasing it after that snag and all was dang entertaining!! Thanks Spencer!
Glad ya got a kick outta it!
That was badass, when you hooked the gar. Good job handling that like a champ. 👏💪
You should do a rod building video. I'm sure a bunch of us would enjoy that.
Dang, that went sideways in a hurry! You did just fine, Spencer. That was a powerful fish
I appreciate it. It was a fun hectic moment for sure
Awesome trip Spencer.
You will have plenty of chance this year for more flattys.
I gotta get my butt out there. Caught a couple bluegills today and been hitting the creeks trying to get back into it. That river is just rough without a motor. Anyway. Tight lines brother 💪🏼
Nice fish. Excellent job of demonstrating 5 of the biggest challenges of trying to catch big fish from a kayak. 😜 Thanks for the video Spencer!
That was awesome Spencer you landed him that's what counts. Good job
Thanks man
Great vid sir !!
I love catching those big Gar!! Really love the kayak/ river trips you have done !! Thank you for what you do !
That was a heck of a fight! Congrats on your new PB! Great fish!
Thank ya sir!
Beautiful gar! Congrats on a great fish, and a hectic but proper release.
Thank you kindly sir
Bro I’d love to know what your thinking when you are floating down:
- what signs are you looking for? For flatheads on that type of creek.
- do you fish the backsides of the stopped up areas where it may be deeper pockets?
It all depends man. The more you do it, the more it kinda starts to make sense.
That gar fight was insane!
Yeah I sure would like a trip like that ,man that look so peaceful, you scored on that one..and great bait ,nice gar too.
Totally enjoyed Spencer.
Good quality content every time 🫡🙏🏽blessings
That was awesome! Definitely needed Ty pig patrol out there to help you out with the gar!
Pretty awesome, you can see it in water real good once, good enough, they are powerful fish
Great video bubba even without a flat head still looked like a good day to me
Man I was hopin that was a 100lb flathead. Still gonna be my favorite outta all your videos I've seen n I've been watching ya for @least a few years. Awesome trip Spence, thanks for takin us along!!!
Absolutely man. Glad ya enjoyed it so much!
Been watching you for a few years now buddy. This was my favorite catch/fish so far. What a battle
Glad ya got a kick outta it man. I appreciate that.
You ever try catfish noodling?
I've started "dabbling" with fly fishing for carp. I have NEVER been able to just walk up to them like that though. They spook so easy here in Utard land.
What a experience you had there.
That had to be awesome!!!!
You handled the situation well with that gar, good video bro!

It was definitely my idea of a good time. Glad you enjoyed it!
Tight Lines Captain Spencer 🐟🐟🐟🐟
Big gar live in tiny streams like this everywhere. They actually thrive in small water ways
When I was younger, I never saw carp. Now I see them all over the place in large schools.
Man that's a beautiful looking river. I have a tributary off the main river in my county that sets up almost identically, just flatter terrain. Blues don't go up it too much but BIG flatheads on narrow water logjams
You handled this really well for not being ready ✊
I appreciate it man!
Fun stuff brother. Always a pleasure. Hey....this is fishing! 😊
God bless all here.
Yessir. I appreciate ya!
Channels and tiny blues make good flat head bait too. Super tough live bait that the gar don't mess with to much.
I don’t even fish for catfish, yet I love to watch your videos. Thanks for another great one.
Greatest compliment ever. I appreciate it Bret!
I believe you captured the chaos and pure power of that fish well. That looked like an Insane amount of power, like you was tied to a truck!
It definitely caught me off guard man. I need to try and catch one of the big ones I saw later.
Well done! This is one of the best trips in my book.
Thank you kindly
They usually tie ropes around them like a lasso. Brutally powerful fish.
Next time I'll use the rope I anchor to brush with. I didn't think of that until after I let him go of course.
That looks like such golf flathead territory too. And obviously there’s forage hope you get a chance to try the water again
Agreed. Kinda surprised i didn't find any that day.
I was definitely impressed with the rods performance! One hell of a test!
The more I use it, the more I like it. Hopefully test it out on some big blues next week.
You're always good for a pleasant surprise Spence, just glad you didn't go for a swim when she went under you.

That creek looks sweet
you did awesome!! nothing wrong with being safe 👍🏼
I appreciate that man
Lmao on the gar, what a struggle

Your calamity is beautiful lots of power there
Haha it was definitely calamity haha
great video. the fight was great, huge fish. a good day. stay safe.

That place where the shad were at is amazing
I have to agree.
Another wonderful video Spencer. I enjoyed watching. Glad that Alligator Gar didn't use his sharp teeth on ya. At the same time I'm quite sure he was a lot of fun. You take care and stay safe. God bless.
All good , great content, be safe and stay positive is what I allways say.
Same to you man
Spencer you are a better catfishing man then me.
I don't know about that
That’s the most carp I’ve ever seen, were is that spot at it looks peaceful!
That was f******* AWESOME!!!!! What a ride
Glad ya got a kick outta it. It was definitely a ton of fun.
lol about the alligator gar, the sheer power was awsome
That was some next level angling - battle a 4 foot gator gar from a kayak while having another rod snagged up and still landing the gar.
It was some wonderful chaos that I'd love to replicate
Nice dinosaur gar! That'll shoot your heart rate and adrenalin to unbelievable heights! 😉♥
Spencer is KING!
I'm just glad I didn't get wet haha
That’s one skookum fish man, Great footage!
Haha you ain't kiddin. Thanks for watching!
That's an epic surprise! You need to bring a rope with you when you fish that next time.
Nice doesn’t get better than having a big fish at the end of the line.
Gotta agree
Just picked up my second kayak the ascend h10 definitely taking it to the big muddy this weekend! Great content per usual man
Ascend H10 thats a nice kayak man. I assume you got it at bass pro ?
@@Daiwa_Is_King picked it up off a local that flipped it over and lost interest

That gar was huge!! They don't get so big in southeast Ohio. What state are you in to catch the gar?
That….was…..freaking….awesome!
Definitely a pile of fun. Glad ya enjoyed it!
That hit was insane. Great video. Cubbies won 🐻
Nice to see you back in Oklahoma
That's why I always keep super glue with me. More than one trip has ended up with a deep cut/gash that had to be doctored up.
