Is there a middle ground to the controller vs mouse & keyboard war?? Is JoyShockMapper any good? Want to add air mouse functionality and use stuff you already have? That’s what Jibb Smart aimed to do with his development of JoyShockMapper, allowing users to easily integrate the Dual shock 4, Switch pro controller, and Joy Cons into everyday gaming similar to that of the Xbox controller.

Yeah, most Nintendo games have been doing this since 3DS. Gyro aim is no joke.
As someone who has used it, it is _way_ worse than this.
Edit: someone kindly reminded me to use nouns so here is what i meant to say: the wiis tracking is, to put it mildly, inferior to the solution presented in the video.

Friendly reminder that Steam has its own controller configuration driver, Steam Input has a lot of features including gyro support for DS4, Switch Pro and most controllers, not just Steam Controller the driver originally intended for.
You should review the Steam Input, Linus.

@@Sommitps They're talking about Steam Input, the configuration system. Also Steam Controllers are great.
The Steam overlay has ridiculously deep options. It's so good. I hate that they are dropping production of the steam controller instead of continuing to iterate.
I have came here for the same reason. I love my steam controller and I would say it's even better than dualshock. 'cause mouse pad. It's so sad that LTT rewied the steam controller and said "Yeah, this exists, whatever" and now this video. It should be about steam input and apologize about the SC.

Step 6: Load Config (can be modified) or create your own.
Step 7: Start game and enjoy
Once configured, it works every time and reconnecting a Controller is Just making Sure Steam is running and connecting the Controller. If you configured the Desktop-Config it works with every Game/Software Not only Steam-Games. Steam Just has to Run in the Background.

I've been using a DS4 with my PC through Steam for years now and it's fantastic
On some games steam needs to have admin first before you boot them up. So just start in bootstrap

You can also easily set the gyro to simulate analog or mouse input through Steam's ds4 support, and there are a lot of options to tune it to your liking.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed Steam input wasn't mentioned at all in the vid. I think Steam has mentioned interest in supporting joyshockmapper functionality tho.
I saw the first 10 seconds of the video and came to comment this. Steam supports this for a bunch of controllers you don't need some random software for it.
This is fair, but this new software allows you to use it without Steam for non Steam games as well. It tricks your computer into believing it is a mouse and keyboard so you can use it for everything without the need of Steam.
It does and it supports both the dual shock and the switch pro controller natively.
The Steam Controller had this from the start and nobody cared because it "felt cheap"
It was pretty neato that the gyro could be used for precise aiming and the trackpad for wide aiming. It worked really well for me. Eventually I didn't want to tweak input config every game I played. Should be an easier way, like that devs realise this exist and should be available in the menu with a single checkmark and a slider.

I felt so bad for sleeping on the Steam Controller when I recently found out gyro controls could compensate for analogue aiming.
And the worst part was that it was essentially the perfect controller. It had the best gyro tracking out of any controller to date, it had a trackpad so aiming could be even more precise than the analogue stick, and it had under grip buttons by default. You won’t find any bells and whistles (although, some may count gyro controls to be unnecessary).
It was perfect... Sure, maybe it could use more ergonomic tweaks here and there, maybe adjustable trigger stops, and maybe one more under grip button on each side. But other than that, it probably was the endgame of controllers...
It was everything a competitive or casual controller enthusiast could have wanted... it was simply perfect...

Not quite the same thing. My favorite controller has always been the steam controller. The trackpad, while hard to get used to, is incredible once you get used to it
Agreed, I'm terrified I will drop my steam controller since they cut production, but its 100% my favorite controller. If I could just figure out how to get it to work on destiny 2...
The flick stick is game changing here. You can't do sick drags but now devs don't have to keep adding an ADS to every game because consoles require you to make huge camera movements while aiming accurately.
Shooters without ADS and aim assist are easily achievable on console if thumbsticks were properly set up with deadzone and acceleration options offered. Customizable acceleration curves, as well as 'turn' acceleration easily offer the ability to make quick turns while still being able to make pixel adjustments.
It's just the industry standard to fumble thumbsticks. Developers are content with fat deadzones, aim smoothing and limited options.
Dual shock 3 on the PS3 did this, and a couple games actually used it pretty well...
A lot of the PS3/DS3 features were ahead of its time (albeit not easily accessible)
But he's obviously talking about pc games even without steam platform
Steam Controller has excellent gyro sensitivity as well as top shelf custo.ization options. There are also programs that help you use the Steam overlay on non steam games. It's just a hassle. I have even played Escape From Tarkov with Steam Controller gyro aim.

Hey Johnny, I wrote a new song! I call it Pizza Mozzarella
This is essentially the control scheme for Splatoon 2, where it uses the joycon gyros for fine aiming, while the right stick still works as a right stick normally would in shooters.
Sean McGreen I remeber this feature was also in first splatoon on wii u
The thing I hated about Splatoon is that the right stick didn’t effect Vertical/UpDown movement. After hours of playing the games I still can’t get used to it
JoyShockMapper allows for "flick stick". Flick stick maps the angle of the right thumbstick to the same angle turn in-game. So if you pull the stick straight back, then you do an almost-instant 180° turn. This gives the player far more direct and immediate control over their bearing than traditional stick controls.
DS4Windows (the ryochan7 version) is really good as well. Fully remappable, gyro mouse, and can poll over Bluetooth at up to 1000hz. You can also set up auto profiles based on what game you're launching. Also lets you use the touchpad as a mouse, and set up controller shortcuts to launch other programs/games.

The more I watched the video the more I'm convinced Nintendo got it right with Zelda BOTW. You can still aim with the right stick and hols aim with the left trigger but the control motion helps you aim as well and ia super precise. I ABSOLUTELY, loved that about Zelda
splatoon 2 works the same way. you do your broad aiming with the stick, and the gyro is for the fine tuning.
In case it isn't clear from the video, Flick Stick isn't just gyro aiming. It's even more radical than that. Think of it as combining Splatoon's gyro aim (normal gyro aim, but stick rotates character on the X-axis only) and Luigi's Mansion 3's horizontal mode (stick points vacuum in stick direction, but gyro is vertical only) into one aiming system. My only concern would be that it's too radical for people to accept when they already have trouble accepting normal gyro aim.
I know I'm 4 month late, but yeah people missing the point that this isn't about gyro as much as it is about flick stick.
"This app works with a Dualshock 4, Switch Pro controller, or even a joycon!"
So does Steam...
"You can use it to play any PC game that doesn't already support a controller."
So can Steam...
"The program lets you assign controller inputs to whatever keyboard and mouse action you want."
As does Steam.
You can use a Steam Controller, a Dualshock 4, an Xbone controller, a 360 pad, a Wii U pro controller, a Switch Pro controller, or basically any controller that has DirectInput or XInput mapping support. Wired, wireless with a dongle, Bluetooth. JoyShockMapper is cool, I guess, and if I specifically wanted to use a non-conventional controller on a non-Steam game with something that's overall lighter than Steam, sure, but so long as I can just... add a game to my Steam library and configure Steam Input, I'll just persevere with the minor bloat of Steam. Even the sales pitch of gyro mapping is a moot point because Steam can use the gyro on DS4 or Switch pads, and then it supports things like mode shifting so you can make complex layers. Games like No Man's Sky specifically added support for the Steam Controller and Steam Input features, and it feels like a champion to be able to sit back and space out (get it?).

Literally every Nintendo console since the Wii: Am I a joke to you?
Wii doesn't use gyro technically it uses infrared for motion controls (though I think motion plus accessory that came out later was gyro). Sony has been using it from the beginning with PS3 and continued with that feature on the Vita and PS4.
And the PlayStation is infinitely more responsive
@@weaverquest Wii M+ that was showcased since 2008 uses a gyro. Nintendo has implemented Gyro aiming/camera control in more games than Sony. Back in the Wii/PS3 games majority of games with Gyro aiming were on the Wii. Most PS3 games used Gyro in a very ginmicky way, not as the main aiming method.
steam already has this function since steam controller launched
It's a shame that Microsoft didn't make this a standard on their controllers. A new console came and yet again it lacks gyro features. And the worst part is, fanboys still call it gimmick.
If Xbox controllers had it as a standard feature, then at least on pc games we could simply use the controllers and translate it to mouse+kb or on modern games have native features for it.
Splatoon players been playing Splatoon on Switch like this for a long time.
WiiU as well.
yeah, splatoon sold me on gyro aiming.
Seriously. Splatoon's motion controls are already a perfect implementation. On both the Wii U and on the Switch. I was terrible at normal thumb-stick shooters back when they were the big thing. I tried Splatoon and was used to it almost instantly. 3-4000+ hrs of playing S1 and S2 later, and I still marvel at how absolutely smooth and intuitive it all is and the incredible degree of control I have. I've said for years if you put Splatoon-quality motion controls up against K&M, they'd go toe-to-toe. And for the life or me, I cannot understand why Nintendo hasn't made it super easy for established shooter series to implement them. It'd be completely eye-opening to so many people to see the monumental upgrade over the old, clunky thumbsticks-only system.
Probably the closest thing to mouse aiming right now quite honestly
@@kdawg3484 I heard that the Doom Switch port added in gyro aiming at some point
I personally really like the gyro-mouse control. I have a Steam Controller, and I know it's not the best, but it has the gyro option and configurable bindings built into Steam with a really nice interface.
I'm just getting into Gyro aim, and I think it's a total game-changer! (And maybe even not just for controller players, but for KBM players too. I can't wait to see how competitive people can be growing up with gyro aim.) I've been playing through the Halo games in the Master Chief Collection, and it's so nice to have mouse-like aiming from the couch for a game I grew up playing with twin-stick controls from the couch.
I used to have a Sniper unit that allowed me to plug in a mouse and left hand keyboard to my 360. That was excellent.
Damn they really said “splatoon who?” for thirteen minutes and twenty-one seconds
The key thing though that splatoon has and this doesn’t have, is the immediate gyro adjustment. One button resets the gyro based on where your controller is and it tells the system “this is my neutral position” rather immediately. I really think that’s a major key in something like this working properly.
Agreed. Without the recenter button, Splatoon would become unplayable imo.
@jesus barrera Casually, yes. Competitively? Not quite.
@jesus barrera have you ever actually... watched splatoon? Turf war is only one of the modes, and even then there's more to it than just "paint printer go brr"
Hi! This program draws some inspiration from Splatoon, but does some things differently. Instead of a reset button, there's a disable-gyro button. This is much more like a mouse (the mouse doesn't reset to the centre of the screen, but you can lift it up to reposition). This is much better when you're following targets above or below you, and at a high level of play players much prefer this over a full reset.
It also improves on Splatoon's gyro aiming, but I don't wanna make this a super long comment :)
@jesus barrera To give you more context of proper Splatoon games, there are weapons that is NOT recommend to paint frequently but to hide yourself in paint or terrains and aim for kills. Switching between painting and precision aiming happens very frequent and both are important to do in the whole team.
Doesn’t almost every Switch game use gyro aiming with the Pro Controller or Joycons?
Jake yes! BotW does this and it’s a joy to micro aim with gyro

Yes, even Wii U and 3DS games used to do this.
Yeah, but he mentioned the main issue: they only poll at 60hz wireless and their native rate for some reason doesn't work on PC wired. Considering good mice poll at 1000hz (and even cheap mice do 250hz) it's pretty noticeable for me.
Gyro, yes. Flick stick, no.
We've had this on Splatoon since Day 1 and the game is literally unplayable for me without it.

With the flick stick thing the joystick is only controlling X-axis, is that really how Splatoon does it?
@@austinpalmer2527 The flick stick thing isn't as sensitive as with Linus's, but it works the same in splatoon.
@@beaugemperline4674 Huh? It's not flick-based in Splatoon, you just get faster wide movements with the right stick and do the fine adjustments with the gyro. That method works really well. I kind of prefer it to the flick setup in the video, but it's probably just because I'm used to the smooth camera movement.
Tyler Smith yeah that’s what I meant, I just didn’t explain it very well.
Just gonna put this out here: A controller does not snap your aim at a moving target, it simply slows down your joystick when you're ADS in on the target. It won't just magically snap your crosshair to the target and give you back to back hits. Keyboard players rather are on an advantage as they get more options to map their controls on the keyboard. No hate, just facts
