When I was a high schooler, I very much disdained my privilege to go to a private school and saw everything academic as silly. Luckily, I had a latin/english teacher who showed me his soul and furthered my knowledge of literature and film extracurricularly. I was welcome to go to his house whenever and get books and movies, and then dump them back to him the next school day. You remind me a lot of him, though your specific interests differ. I have much love for teachers because of this man and I know all of your loves will be spent and redoubled in the lives of your students.
    Thanks to you

I lived in Vancouver in 2011 while studying film and would go to Macleod’s all the time during the lunch breaks. Such great memories. Amazing bookstore.
    Thanks for the video.

My buddy Matt is a filmmaker actually - here's one of his movies if you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/IAbrVWVASu8/v-deo.htmlsi=GV--sJCu2Ul5X8fv
It sounds like back when you lived in Vancouver that the good parts of the city were just as good and the bad parts weren't nearly as bad.

@@Orpheuslament I’ll check it out. Thanks for sharing it.
Actually, I lived right by near the Chinatown area and it was pretty bad back then. I can only imagine how much worse it’s gotten over the years, based on your experience.

This brought back a lot of memories from my own trip to Vancouver several years back, including visiting both MacLeod's and Paperhound. Cool to hear about your experience and glad it was enjoyable for the most part.
That edition of Lahontan's Voyages is such a unique gem, what an incredible find. Such a good decision to ask the owner one more time!

Coming from most American cities it is shocking to see TWO bookstores within walking distance of one another. I hope Vancouver is able to keep and cultivate such a lucky situation.

Vancouver has some good bookstores. I visited twice back in 2017. That city has some very impoverished areas though, like nothing I've ever seen in any other Canadian city I've been to.

Is that Lahonton's Voyage the Graphic Publishers edition? That's a very cool find! Graphic published a number of historical journals/voyage accounts in those flexible covers shortly before they went under.

@@Amysdustybookshelf Yep that's the exact publisher. I had no idea it existed until the bookseller showed it to me.
