      As a westerner who moved in with his dad and grandmother recently because both need help around the house, I absolutely hate how most people in our culture view living with your parents. I get being a freeloader is crap, but if you're taking care of your family what is there to look down on? I think people who just throw their family members in a home should be looked down on worse than an adult who lives with and takes care of his family.

    • @yamchayaku
      @yamchayaku 8 місяців тому +4

      @@dothvarter well yeah... If you're not living with your family like some cultures, you're going to be poor. People always want to make it on their "own", but are never part of a community. That's why they're poor. Even if you make as high as 80k, you're still going to be poor because guess what? All that money is going to go towards what you need. And god forbid you get into a medical emergency that put you out of work for months, plus a bill that your insurance won't fully cover. You'd be financially screwed.
      Americans are always about "individuality", but never part of a community that pools resources. THAT is primarily why they're poor, and why most of them will work until they die.

    This is literally an American mindset. My Caribbean family and cousins all lived together and next to each other for 2 decades, and we all helped each other out financially to become successful. My sister and I lived with my parents until we were both 31. We saved and invested enough to comfortably pay off debt and live on our own. My sister, who is a doctor, is now married w/ kids, I just got married and am an accountant. All my first cousins are now married and living on their own as well.

I've lived on my own before and it was nothing but struggle and loneliness, now with all the money I save, I have gone on vacations around the world. No, when Americans say don’t live with parents they’re really mean don’t live with your parents in any shape or form. I’m American, but I’m also Mexican and Black and in my culture you live with your parents in a multi-generational home till you get married and move in with your husband’s family or if your parents are elderly you stay with them to take care of them. A white American woman shamed me for not having my own home when I was 18 because she thought it was disgraceful that I stayed home with my parents even though I was staying home to take care of them.

I’m single, healthy, own my car, investing, have no debt, a great job and career opportunities, the only thing I lack is privacy. I Have the funds for a down payment on a house but waiting on things to settle down in this chaotic world. Now the question is, come this spring 2023, do I move out and throw my money away with rent (a decent apt is around $2k in my area) or stay at home. I think I’m going to end up renting. I definitely need my own space especially at 36. Opens more opportunities when it comes to the social life. But at the same time, the fact I have two loving parents who are getting older is something I shouldn’t overlook. Time is flying.

    Don't let social media dictate your situation. Everyone is on their own timeline. You move out when you have your finances in order, gainfully employed with a strong career, reliable transportation, built good credit, and when you feel comfortable about your situation.
    People are quick to judge. Don't let them push you out, and then you're in an even worse situation, living pay check to pay check with no game plan or savings. Then you take on more credit card debt and loans you can't afford. It's not cool in my book, lol.
    I hope this message helps those understand that there is no rush here. While in your 20s and 30s come up with a game plan to have a career and do your research on what it is you want to do in life.
