To be fair to Tug'o'War, just the fact that we have normal rubber capped joysticks instead of the N64's ridged, hard plastic sticks already vastly diminishes the potential for hand trauma. It's still boring though

It still wears out the controller super quickly while being kind of a snore fest. And even if you use your thumb, I'm sure the rapid circling can't be good for your joints either.
I don't get why Nintendo put these games in after they were sued about em and sent out protective gloves for free afterwards.

Fun fact about shell soccer:
There's an additional layer of strategy in that you can hit multiple goombas at once if you get close enough to them and aim at a specific angle.
Well yeah, that's kinda obvious. This is the main thing that makes it more interisting than regular soccer.

I feel like the mushroom mix up should also get some points due to making the game accessible to colour blind people. A lot of the remixed games do that well, making it more accessible for all players.

8:50 A better way to name them is a stacker. Both the competitive Puyo and Tetris communities refer to them as such.
The main focus of the game is to stack efficiently to get Tetris' and T-Spins for Tetris, and chains and power clears for Puyo. Downstacking and Upstacking are both terms used for clearing downwards and upwards respectively in both games. The same goes for Puzzle Fighter.
Games where you add blocks or objects onto a board, or stacking, fit this category. Games like Dr. Mario and Puyo Puyo go into the matching genre, which overlaps with games like Candy Crush and Bejeweled. Zumba is an example of an action matching stacker.
Calling them Tetris games does a disservice to the games involved, like calling all platformers Mario-likes or all FPS games Doom clones.
Tetris Game examples are Tritris, where you clear lines of right triangles, and pentris, Tetris but with 5 blocked pieces instead of 4.

@American Mapping! I don't think you match objects in Tetris at all. You clear lines by stacking with them. Puyo is a stacker game because you stack up chains. Puzzle Fighter is a stacker because if you stack elements together to deal damage. There's also match type games like Bejeweled and Candy Crush, which aren't stacking games but still encompasses your definition. I think any game where things come from the top and you have to put them together in a certain way stacking games.
Also I am incredibly biased since I'm part of the competitive Tetris community full of people calling them stackers.
@@TheVeryGenericUsername What i meant by “matching” blocks, is that you need the blocks to be arranged in a certain way by color, or in Tetris’s case you need to arrange blocks so they fit in a line.

Since you usually try racking up as much of a score as possible in those games I think it'd fit.
Correction in Hide and Sneak- The characters run randomly even in the original so you can't actually use that to gauge where a player goes.
I am so glad I am not the only one who got frustrated with superstar’s dungeon duos. The original is perfect but the jumping in the new game ruined it for me. I could deal with everything else but my brother and I kept missing the jumps.
I've never played the original but I knew there was a reason why I can't beat that game to save my life

I probably wouldnt mind SOME of the 3v1's being "unfair" on one side if there was a mechanic that skewed their odds of appearing towards helping the losers. For example, if the 1 was losing the board, they are more likely to get a game that favours the 1, and if the 1 is winning the board, they get a minigame that is stacked against them. Basically, acting as a minor comeback mechanic that actually still requires some skill.
The payout should be different. 5 coins each for the team or 15 coins for the winner. Also, in coin minigames everybody should have their own pockets

Oh my Lakitu, THANK YOU. Someone else who understands Slot Car Derby, that is in my top 10 favorites of all time and I thought it was really simple. But every time I explain how I’m getting faster than my friends it’s always “Ohhhhhh that makes sense” I don’t know why it’s so difficult to get.

4:06 As pointed out by Skawo when he played through Mario Party Superstars, the Switch joystick has less travel than the N64 one, so realistically the optimal rotating method _here_ is with your index finger.
The fact that winner or dinner has the best minigame ending in the game should at least bump it up to 95th place. I don't mind the game too much honestly, it has a lot more going on than most coin minigames.
In terms of "LOOK AWAY", I disagree. The original version of the game allowed players to rotate the character head really fast, which would make it difficult to try and track them. In the remake of this, your character head moves much much slower.

Thank goodness somebody mentioned the lack of modes. I thought I was the only one who cared about wanting more stuff to do. Also, I'm pretty sure that this is the only game without some kind of single player mode. I mean there's 10, _but we don't talk about that one._

The final challenge in MP1's Mini Game Island is pretty much the game's way of forcing you to learn how to properly play Slot Car Derby.

Can't believe that specific game won. And from the most unexpected Mario Party, too. In fact, I sank more hours into that specific Mario Party than any of the others when I was a kid (DS aside)

I'm surprised how some games I hated scored pretty high and others scored really low. It's fascinating to see how opinions can differ that much.
Also, I never played Shell Soccer but it looks amazing! WHY DOES THIS MINIGAME NOT APPEAR IN THE MAIN MODE?
I never got why either! Maybe they thought it's too long or something? Even then they could just lower the number of goombas when the game gets picked in the main modes.
It's not in the main mode in 9 either. At least Goomba Bowling is in the party mode

For the "bugged" hits on Chip Shot Challenge, it most likely comes from the fact that they hide the trajectory the cpu's do after some time. No idea why.
shell shocked is a reference to the PTSD-esque condition suffered by a lot of WWI/WWII soldiers, shell shock. sucks that they changed it but it's completely understandable.

If you want to be driven you insane again, you should try ranking all of the Mario and Sonic Olympic Events. As someone who loves that series way more than it deserves and actively participates in online leaderboards for them, there is a lot of crappy luck based games hiding in skill based clothing.
Smaller video would be just the London Party missions, but considering the Mario wiki doesn't even have a section for that mode (seriously not even a section on the full article of Mario and Sonic London, even though that was the big thing of that game) I don't think anyone cares about it. Those missions sucked too.
I’d enjoy a video on the DS version of Winter Olympics, honestly, ranking or no ranking. The story mode is actually really fun: you start with just Mario and Sonic, and recruit characters as you go along. Some characters are needed to take certain challenges for their own personal skills and quirks. For example, you need Waluigi to use reverse psychology to get a shy guy to spill the beans in one area, and in an earlier area, King Boo refuses to race anyone in Slalom except Luigi because he enjoys how much it creeps Luigi out
I liked how you actually decided to see if the minigame got nerfed in comparison of the original version, making some of this points more fair that it should be
Also I would substract 5 places in each minigame that deleted the clouds and mountains with eyes in change of some generic landscape

Given your critique of Cake Factory's music, I'm surprised that as much as you nitpicked Mushroom Mixup, you never mentioned its music. The original's was so full of life, but the remake was just like "lol fast drums". It might be more "cool", but come on, the original sounds way more like a battle at the sea.
8:50 I would call such a game an "action puzzler": essentially, a puzzle game in which there is some time constraint by something happening without input so thinking fast is a requirement, contrasting a "calm puzzler" where you can (often) take as long as you need to think. And portal 2 would be a platformer-puzzler, which are often calm puzzlers.
Question is if a calm puzzler with a timer mechanic would become an action puzzler, which I personally disagree with.

42:30 Luckily they actually did make a good change, they offset your starting angle so you weren't facing directly towards the player opposite you.
I feel like Mario party 8 had plenty of good minigames to choose from. A lot of them could have motion controls easily swapped out for stick controls like in Paint Misbehavin’.
Each Mario party game should have has at LEAST 5-6 minigames representing it. The fact that 8, regarded by many as the last good one, got only 2 is a travesty.
Mario party 10 didn't do much better with only 3 minigames. That game has even less of an excuse, because there are far more games that use button controls. I think the fact that both mario party 8 minigames are 2 vs 2 doesn't help, as that's probably the least common minigame type of the three main ones.
I wished the Soda can minigame returned. :(
Did DS get any minigames? I don't remember seeing any. It's weird how they keep ignoring it, despite being one of the best Mario Party's all around. Sure, a lot of them have touch controls or other DS exclusive stuff, but definitely not all of them.

Characters without shoes will instead nail ice skates to their bare feet in the ice scating mini game
With Flash Forward you also should be facing the camera. Luigi was facing the camera (even though his face was down his body was still facing the camera)
The issue with Roll Call isn't that it just counting. The issue with it is that you can see your opponents' count. That means you actually don't have to count, but copy your opponents score. And if everyone has the same score, everyone wins, removing the point of even trying. That's why Goomba Spotting is so much better of a counting minigame because you can't see anyone's score or even count backwards. And since the counting is reactionary, you not only have to be sure you count right, but also be sure to press the button a correct amount of times.
and here I was thinking "there's no way Booksquirm is not number one". Pleasantly surprised, even introduced me to a mini game I wasn't aware was even in the game

The best thing about Shell Soccer is that you can hit multiple Goombas at once if you're close to the goal zone. It's risky but sooooo satisfying
For the mini game snow whirled, if you have a GameCube controller, it is easier to win since you can mash every button on the controller with ease. (Tip: Mash in a similar way you would do if you were playing in smash bros)

Your rant at 50:57 was pure genius. I am glad I am not the only one that ignores the lack of content in this game. I know people really praise this game for how the classic style of Mario Party has returned faithfully, but Nintendo's attempt at making like this game has a decent amount of content outside of the Party Mode by having varied minigame modes baffles me. A tournament minigame mode has been a staple throughout most of the games and just doing different minigame modes with slightly different objectives seems very tacky and is misleading to anyone who believes there's plenty of ways to play your favorite minigames in Mt. Minigames when really it is not. Between you and me, I feel like even Super Mario Party had more mode variation when it came to how you played minigames. While I do like Mario Party Superstars a lot, this game is not perfect like everyone says it is. I put over 140 hours in the game and that was mostly because the achievements were my main drive to play the game after I had my fill of playing the boards and Mt. Minigames since the lack of modes don't offer much for me. Now that I have completed pretty much all of the achievements, I am less motivated to come back to the game, even when I have friends that are available to join me. What would fix my complaints is definitely some extra content. Perhaps some more boards and more varied minigame modes.
THANK YOU. As someone who put in literal 400 hours into the game(I’m not kidding), Mt Minigame is without a doubt the worst mode out of any MP. It tries to look out extra content, but in reality it’s completely tacky, boring, and pretty soulless of it ask me. Sports and Puzzles is clearly the worst one as clarified by the amazing rant in the video, Tag Battle, and 2-v-2 match are Bascially the “tournament” mode, but not really that at all, and Coin Battle is the most disappointing mode of all.
Superstars is by no means bad, but after putting so much hours into the game and noticing the lack of content, I think the game is just okay in retrospective; definitely better than the modern MP before this, but saying it’s better than the N64 and GameCube entires is really, REALLY stretching too much.
1V3 Minigames are inherently unfair because it usually boils down to the one player having the advantage or the three players having the advantage.

I remembered really enjoying Shell Soccer on MP9, I actually found out that if you angle your kicks right you could actually take out multiple goombas in a single goal
I feel like a lot of these criticisms are a bit misplaced? Like, the one for Shy Guy Says, about the pauses...you literally said yourself that they're meant to trip you up. That's the point of them, to fuck you over. If you don't like the slowness then fine but it's very clearly not JUST there to slow you down more.

If both players cross the line at the same time in Mass Meteor, they tie rather than randomly picking someone.
And I can't believe you didn't mention that in Shell Soccer, you can hit multiple goombas with a single kick, which makes for some incredible high-scoring plays!
"Shell-Shocked", while a clever pun, is also an outdated term used to refer to the PTSD that soldiers suffer from following exposure to combat. Considering we've had a mario party before that was criticized for using the term "spastic", they probably wanted to play it safe.
As someone who plays with 3 other competent human beings and NEVER CPU's, I would have a vastly different ranking. But I wont insult you or say your wrong because of the different mindset and its your opinion and all. At least we both agree that Pirahna Pursuit sucks and Slot Car Derby is godlike. Continue making bomb ass content my good man.

if both players hug the right wall of mass meteor, they both win. the MP6 version uses port priority i believe
10:55 I'm pretty sure this is because it's how close you are to the center, as well as how much you're facing the center. From the videos I've watched (I don't own the game) that seems to be the rule.

Super mario party was like a prototype for this game.
The only thing Im afraid of when it comes to a new mario party is that it wont live up to any of the older ones (or god forbid they bring back the car for some ingodly reason).

14:17 This one is really fun but its indeed too short. They should make it like 3 points. So when the 3 team catches him they get a point, when he scores he gets point. Whoever gets 3 points first wins. That way would make it longer and overall more fun because it wouldnt be over in just 5 seconds.
I don't get why they didn't add super mario party minigames, I would've loved to see the return of a minigame like fuzzy flight school or dust buddies

Games like Tetris are called "puzzle" games because they're analogous to making a game out of playing with puzzle pieces; Tetris itself was inspired by a traditional Russian wooden block puzzle.
On the other hand, games like Zelda and Portal where you solve puzzles in an environment instead of fitting pieces together on a board are considered "environmental puzzle" or "adventure" games since you're making your way through an adventure by resolving obstacles in your path.
Pretty sure the thing with other people’s aim bar thing disappearing in Chip-Shot Challenge is so you can’t cheat and base your shot off someone else’s

The fact that they included Hide & sneak in the single player trio challenge mode is SOOO dumb. They even RANK you on how “well” you do. It’s luck based! How do I do better?!
To be fair, the new switch controller designs are a lot softer than the wavy sharp plastic the n64 had, so I could rotate my palm on a switch controller at top speed for hours and see only slight redness

The first time I played number one was with a full party and I have never had so much fun in Mario Party before. We were all yelling and screaming and having a great time
Actually with Chip Shot Challenge you don't see where the bots hit their ball so you can't copy or learn from them
Another issue with Dizzy Dancing. It's possible to get softlocked because of how everyone needs to move to the center so if someone is bouncing on your head when the timer hits 0 the ai that takes over when the game ends has their pathfinding break and they'll never jump onto the record making it so the game softlocks. Happened day 1 to me.
What's crazy is that I found it way more easier to do the balloon part in dungeon duos in superstars and this is my favorite minigame too. There was really no rhythm on the old version to my discrepancy and I play this all the time

Great video! One problem I have with Superstars is the fact that the graphic design seems to be all over the place.
Like, some of them (Like 23:36 ) look like a better looking, remade MP9 or a more vibrant SMP.
Yet, some of them (Like 6:25 ) look UHD, 4K, and MODERN! Well, what I mean by that is they're trying to be almost realistic.
Which, in this case, almost makes them look... Worse. It's all dull. I prefer something like 0:49 back in the Wii Era when it was sort of realistic but was clean and wasn't distracting. Though that might just be my nostalgia. That kind of Wii-Era wilderness just looks good to me. Maybe it's just the fact that I was in denial that I needed glasses when I was around 10-12 and saw everything somewhat blurry. (And also, they didn't have the technology to make the water look like oil)
So, Match 3 games? That mostly fits the 'tetris' games more, as they do not use tetrimo, which are spefically shapes made of four pieces. Match-3 Games such as Bejeweled and Candy Crush are much more similar to the puzzle games here.
In the 3 "tetris" games they brought back here, you don't match 3 though
