  • My car was making unusual sound from the passenger side and
I diagnose that the Belt Tensioner was bad.
I look around the internet and found no DIY for 4th gen so
I decide to make this video myself to help people out.
I purposely taken out the Belt Tensioner and put it back three time to see what problem people will counter, since this was my first time doing the job.
I didn't want to miss anything out and give out wrong information.
I can`t recommend this DIY to beginner I would said this is for intermediate DIYer.
    ===Tools You`ll need===
    Torque Wrench 3/8" = amzn.to/2FizZab
    (For bolts)
    Torque Wrench 1/2" = amzn.to/2QL4dYU
    (For Lug Nuts)
    Belt Tensioner = amzn.to/2sL3Oh4
(Make sure yours look the same, there is cheaper option but I recommend getting the more expansive one because cheap parts are usually made cheap. OEM one was way too expensive tho...)
    Serpentine Belt = amzn.to/2rS1owz
(I recommend this brand because its used by the Major car company as OEM.)
    Honda Belt Tensioner Bracket Bolt
    90006-P8F-A00
    Bolt-Washer (8X32)
(You might want to call ahead to see if they have the part before you go there.)

This video helped me replace this myself. Dealer wanted 900 bucks. Now my pilot drives like new, even improving MPG. Thank you so much!

That is insane. I did one time bring my personal car to the dealer for this and they charged me $330 which is reasonable on labor and dealer parts. $900 you need to never go back to that dealer

I'm calling BS.... it's probably the timing belt they were quoted $900 on.

Just did this job on my 130kmi 2014 Odyssey. The car was making a discrete but consistent rattling noise, which from the location the noise was coming from seemed like the sound of one of the tensioner pulley bearings failing. I asked the mechanic I usually use for jobs I can't or don't want to do, and he agreed. For fun- I asked the local Honda dealership what this costs (in NJ USA, in 2023) and they told me $1100. The part alone from the dealership is a little over $300 with tax. I purchased an OEM Honda unit (in sealed Honda packaging) for $125 with tax and shipping from an Amazon seller. I would suggest buying the OEM Honda unit. I looked at one from NAPA, and it did not appear to be equal in quality. I truly appreciate this DIY video. Thanks SO much. A few comments on this procedure, and what you can do differently if desired:
I do NOT like putting this crazy heavy car on jack stands, so I tried it on ramps, and it's just as easy. The only issue is getting the plastic wheel arch liner unfastened (the tire does not leave a ton of room to reach one or two of the plastic rivets, but it's not too bad). Once the arch liner is unsecured, it can be folded out of the way.
The belt can be removed using a much shorter wrench on the 14mm push bolt. That makes hitting and possibly damaging other things in the engine bay (like the nearby power steering hose, the AC lines and the plastic surrounds) far less likely. Yes it's more effort- but I was able to do it, and I'm not particularly strong.
Thank you again for your efforts.

Thank you for this video. I was in need of this video today, and it's funny how you released the video a day before I needed it.

Did try to do the job from above without removing the wheel well liner, had to give in and do it your way. Thanks for the video, always good to watch the job get done before doing it yourself!

Thank you for the video. As a DIY mechanic I found this to be motivational. I was dreading doing this after I tried to change the pully only for the belt tensioner and that did not work. You can only change the IDLER pulley not the the BELT TENSIONER pulley. You have to buy the whole assembly or look online to find just the pulley. But it looked simple enough and having the space by the tire wall on the passenger side makes it super easy! Especially putting on belts. I hate putting belts from the top on the Honda/Acura line

I really needed this tutorial, because I had all the tools needed for my bimmer and thought I could do the belt change on my 150k miles old odyssey also. Much simpler than the 3rd or previous generations. Giving you a thumbs up.....you deserve it!
BTW, where did you get that stone at the end?

Hi, this is not the timming belt, right? Thats why you didn´t have to take any cautions on the pulleys moving, right?

This is just a belt not the timing chain.
