    Great tutorial. Mention holding base of valve stem for tightening and loosening and giving that tire some spins to distribute the Stan’s!

      I've been using what I believe (so far) to be a foolproof system which, thanks to my electronics/programming knowledge, seems to solve the issue.
      Inspired by hearing loss I simply attach a clamp-on, cordless sound sensor and record the sounds, while the wheel is spinning in my truing stand.
      Since I've programmed a home made app to interpret the sounds (based on a series of tests for sound data, with a variety of fill rates in the tire I used) I've been able to actually obtain the "drying curve" with enough precision, confirmed by observation, that I can now confidently predict the optimum time to refill. Note that when I take a "sound" I keep the tire at the same pressure as I did when compiling the data as this, too, can change the "sound".
      Yea, lots of work initially but, now, easy as can be. Interestingly, for me, the viscosity of the liquid is significant in terms of the sound generated. So, I'd have to guess that each product generates its own sound as their respective viscosities vary. I'm not motivated or curious enough, though, to find out the differences in the various products but I have quite the data for the Stans product I use. :)

      One way if you get a puncture n it won't seal it
      With green slime it gets hard n is no longer a liquid in air tubes for tires
      With this stuff I don't know if it gets hard
      Keep like 2 bottles on you n a good small pump n a steel valve stem remover tool when riding, just in case it is no good anymore when getting a puncture, or you just need to add some more to help seal puncture up better
      Saved me a few times especially on Ebikes, ebikes are a lot heavier n harder to push back

    Just a FYI, my mountain bike has been hanging upside down in the garage unused for 14 years. The rims are regular 26” Mavic’s I converted to Stans back then. Today I decided to take the bike down to see what kind of maintenance it might need to get it running again, and when I pumped up the tires they held air! Pretty Amazing I thought. Guess I’ll top it off to be on the safe side 😬

      @michaeljohn7467 Місяць тому +1

      If you don't get any punctures, then ya your tire will be fine n doesn't matter if sealant got to old
      Or maybe the weather you in isn't to hard on the sealant n it is lasting longer
      Regardless of your situation, good to keep a bottle or 2 on you n a good small pump n a steel valve stem remover tool when riding, just in case you get a puncture n your sealant goes bad n won't clog it up
      This saved me a few times people, especially on Ebikes that are more difficult to push back when you get a flat
      This saved me many times people to get my ebike riding again

    • @notubes
      @notubes  3 роки тому +3

      Happy to help! The only time that it's really necessary to remove the tire is to remove any larger balls of dried sealant that can form over time. Once a year, or every time you swap tires would be a good time. The tubeless tape is not a wear item so it won't need to be replaced unless it becomes damaged or if you need to remove it to replace a spoke.

    When you say it depends on the climate, what exactly do you mean? I live in hot climate so do I refresh more or less often? How much sealant do I use on a fat bike tire refresh?

    • @notubes
      @notubes  7 років тому +8

      In hot dry Climate the sealant will dry out quicker. 4oz for the fat bike.

    • @gregfeet4269
      @gregfeet4269 3 роки тому +3

      It also depends heavily on how often you add or remove air from your tire. Sometimes I inflate to 45 psi for a long pavement climb up, then deflate to 23 for a single track decent. Each time you remove and replace air, you are drying out the sealant inside. If you were to always keep you tires at the same pressure, the sealant will last much longer.

    • @lazurm
      @lazurm 2 роки тому

      @@gregfeet4269 I use Stan's and top off every 3 months (I live in a temperate climate zone in New York). My tires are 38x700c. I have to inflate them every 2 or 3 days to keep them at the optimal 70 lbs. of pressure. So, though I always keep my tires at the same pressure, air can permeate through the rubber compound and sealant anyway and, I believe, that's normal.
      What would be ideal would enable a sealant user to determine the condition and useable amount of the sealant without merely sticking to a refill schedule that may, or may not, be correct.

      This is not to keep the tire from loosing the bead seal. This sealant refresh is because the sealant will dry up over time.
