Nice to see that the G2 is on par with the A90J in terms of peak luminance. The A90J however, did have aggressive ABL and ASBL (auto static brightness limiter) which really dulls the TV when gaming with HUD or watching news/sports etc. LG never had this issue, so in theory it should retain more brightness on a full window in comparison. One thing the A90J/A80J did that was better than the G1/C1 was SDR content thanks to the XR processor, so I'm curious to see how the a9 Gen5 processor matches up to that. Definitely looking forward to see a side-by-side comparison of the G2 vs A90J and also the A95K QD-OLED.
Only in sdr gaming as classy stated lol. I still haven't witnessed it myself on the a90j. Also measurements are one thing but we are seeing in content the c2 and g2 are extremely similiar in actual brightness. Which we see from villaman the c2 wasn't close to his a90j still because lg likes to maintain apl while sony likes to choose brightness at times. I still believe the impact with the quad sub pixel boostinf on highlights from sony will be very hard to beat. This is why brightness measurements don't mean to much when it comes to resl content as algorithm and the way they read the scenes matter. But hey you never know lol.
@@helloguy8934 idgaf about numbers lol. Go look at villimans comparison. Numbers don't tell you algorithms in actual content. They don't tell you how it chooses brightness in some scenes while other tvs choose apl. To many variables numbers do not mean much anymore. It cannot tell you how a tv reads or displays each scene in a a movie no test pattern or numbers can. This is what people that are novice don't seem to understand. Numbers are cool but I've seen a 600 nit tv look brighter then a 1k nit tv due to how it tracks a scene or what algorithm is put in place. Sony will have the higher brightness due to its algorithm especially with its brightness placement on highlights. It's very noticeable. While lg will choose to keep a lower apl and less impact. That's just how there algorithm is and Tone mapping works.
@@reviewforthetube6485 The a90j iirc seems to push the other subpixels harder to achieve the same brightness. Hence why there is less white subpixel dilution.
They're so close, that I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference unless they were side by side with each other. Considering the $500 price difference for the 65" versions, I'm happy with my C2 purchase.
I was going to go with the g2 today, but the best buy rep told me the mount doesn't adjust to where you can angle the TV left or right so I opted for the c2 so I could get a mount that had that ability. Hoping I made the right choice. I'll find out once they get it here on the 10th
@@Drewjames3 yeah, I've had it for about 2 in a half weeks or so. The jump I did from a 50 inch to a 65 on top of it being my first oled makes it feel like a big upgrade. Having hdmi 2.1 for my games is awesome (playing hogwarts legacy in 120fps) I'm using the TV speakers when not using my headphones and there's a lot more bass and oomph than my old vizio. And of course the picture, it looks great. Some of the 4k movies I've watched have looked not just great but incredible. One minor nitpick I have is when there's a scene that lingers in darkness for a period of time, the TV for some reason doesn't recognize that it's a moving image and thinks it's a static one so the screen will dim. You can still see but it can be pretty difficult at times. Once a brighter scene comes back on the screen goes back to normal. I heard buying a cheap service remote to turn a setting off fixes it, but I'm not going to do that right now.
@@NYC_Goody I really appreciate the in depth reply It helps a lot, I've been back and forth between the c2 and the a80k and they both have their own strengths and weaknesses but considering the c2 gets around 200 nits brighter I think it'll be the better buy but that issue you're talking about makes me wonder how lg hasn't gotten around to fixing that after almost a year of it being out.
It is strange how the g2 model in some white scenes, the white seems to be tending to yellow while the C2 panel does not so as to be more faithful and natural ... very strange.
Any chance of doing a c1 vs c2 video. That’s what I think a lot of people would like to see. After all, now is the perfect time to buy a c1 if the c2 doesn’t really have enough to offer to make the cost worth it.
proud owner of a 65 c1 and 75 q90t one of the brightest tvs out there and let me tell u guys the c1 is definitely bright enough the main issue with oled is having direct sunlight or light hitting the screen from the front causing reflection thats it the brightness is not a issue so save urself some money and get the c1 or if u want the new gwt the c2 the g series is not worth the extra theu charge i say
I love your store is a really AV sanctuary 😂😆, plz keep feeding our passion, and it seem the most likely upgrade this year is more burn in resistance with slightly brightness improvement
So coming from a 65" C9, and going to a 77" either C2 or G2 is the extra cost of the G2 worth it? I'm leaning towards the C2 but depending on direct comparisons if there is a visible difference have no problem spending the extra cash for the G2.
I found it hard to see any appreciable difference between the G2 & C2 as shown in this video. Was the G2 better in person? And was it enough to justify the price differences between the two panels?? Thanks
People cannot tell the difference unless side by side in person and even then you need to be an expert. Most people cannot tell the difference. WOLED is pretty much tapped out by now. Heck even a C1 will be 'good enough' and save you money. QD-OLED is where it's at now.
I would say at 11:00 look closely at the highlights & colors of the animals. The hawk you can see the yellow part is more vibrant. Also for the chameleon it looks more defined overall.
We are the first US dealer to have the 77G2, and 65G2 Gallery Series OLED TVs in stock and shipping from 5 warehouses. The 77" G1 is on it's final close-out sale for $3,299.
The price difference is what makes the G2 a harder sell for many. Right now the deals have a 77” LG C2 down to $2500 and a 77” LG G2 is down to $3600. Is the picture difference worth $1100? Not for me personally. The G2 is better but not $1100 better.
A bit later now but I managed to get a new 77inch G2 for US$3150 (as the G3s are coming out) and for me it's also about the wall mounting and space saving aspect as we have a new house and pets who could knock a stand TV over. Adding a $100 wall mount to a C2 and it was a no brainer to upgrade to the G2 at the price I paid.
Hallo from Germany. Which Sanus stand do you use? On the homepage, the maximum diagonal is 60". Or is it possible by reducing the weight? Thank you for this very detailed video.
Thank you so much for doing this! Please shoot and upload these videos in HDR though! UA-cam does indeed support HDR and it would be nice to see the comparisons in HDR, especially because that's where we really see the differences (heatsink vs no heatsink)
I picked up that Sanus stand for my 65” G2 and it looks great especially on the lowest height setting. Really solid and with a metal base (not the typical glass). Is the one in this video model number VSTV1 (rated for up to 60” and 27kg /60lbs)? I’m guessing its still ok for the 77” G2 even though out of spec?
I totally respect the nerd-stuff, and those whom loves digging DEEP into calibrations and such, as seen in this review (and thank you for it!) However, for someone like me, the fact that all of these measurements and crazy tests needs to be done, to get people to actually NOTICE the smaller differences, that’s just absurd to me :-) I’m thinking about the obscene amount of difference in price, between something like the C2 and G2. I’ve seen many other experts, in other video’s, go like this; “There! DID YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE!? Go back, go back… THERE! Pause the shit outta that! Right_THERE! See the 10% better highlights in THAT image!?”… And THAT sort of stuff is supposed to convince people to pay for a tv that’s 1100 bucks more expensive?.. Really? That’s what I mean with absurdity :-) The differences in the end are so small that the huuuge price-jump, from one model to the next, just blows my fucking mind. Like, I truly can’t fathom why even the experts would ever truly feel like it’s worth it, for something so little of a difference.. Oh well :-)
I agree I bought the c2 77 and I can't think of trying to upgrade. This picture quality is already overkill. Bright as hell. I wouldn't want anything brighter I saw the high end Sony's and g2 there I don't see much of a difference. It's not like comparing 720p and 4k. I even had the b2 65 inch and that picture was amazing too. Can't go wrong with any OLED unless you're in a really bright room then things might change.
Kind of crazy that you did this without calibrating them. The g series has always shipped as more pre-calibrated than the c series. This isn't a true test.
We've been shipping 48", 55", 65", and 77" C2s for three weeks and last week we began shipping the 77" G2. All are still in stock, on display in our showroom and we're shipping Nationwide.
Thanks for a great video. Confused though, does the G2 come with a wall mount or not? I got the impression that the video say both that it does and that it doesn't :)
Great videos. Thank you to all for doing this. Even on camera the G2 looks a bit brighter than the C2 but not on all scenes. It looks like the G2 is 10% brighter than the C2 at the small percentage. I’m getting A90J and A80J vibes. The C2 could be the better TV once price is factored in just as the A80J was the better TV. Looks like LG has addressed the ootb color accuracy which now makes LG a viable alternative to Sony. The other thing that we need to confirm is LG’s sharpness especially compared to Sony’s reality creation. If LG comes within 80-90% of image processing, then they will finally be ahead of Sony.
@@samtech889 All TV manufacturers have strengths and weakenesses. It's a well-known fact that Sony has superior image processing. That's why they don't manufacture panels. In the day and age of compressed sources and possible 8k requiring 4x-16x upscaling, processing is one of the most important factors when buying a TV. Sony commanded a huge advantage in out-of-the-box (ootb) color accuracy which gave them a huge advantage over LG and other manufacturers since a TV that displays Blue instead of Green will always look better than a TV that displays a luscious Green for a sky. I'm exaggerating but color is very important. LG has made strides in the right direction with color accuracy and that's very important as it's a deal breaker if you're not professionally calibrating that TV. In gaming, LG is better than Sony but you can still game on the Sony although the ASBL is a big issue and needs to be addressed immediately. I'm actually very upset that Sony added support for the almost meaningless VRR before fixing the all important ASBL issue. Clearly, these 2 new models from LG are positioned to compete against the A80J and A90J in terms of slightly superior brightness for the G2 at the expense of slightly more shadow detail for the C2. Anyway, this is all good stuff. We just have to wait and see how QD OLEDs fare.
@@techsamurai11 I agree with you except for the the C2 part. Yes it's Shadow detail is better now (finally) but it's also obvious it's color brightness is at least 10% to 20% brighter then the c1. Also that other guy is trolling u

It happens with my cable set top box and with my Apple TV 4k. I have one 77 C2 with the latest firmware. Any tip to solve this? Is it a firmware bug or a defect? I have to keep Just scan OFF to get equal left/top/right bezel size but the image is zoomed:(
this is good but disappointed at the same time compare to last year A90J that can easily get close to 200 nits on 100% window after calibration. Hoping for A95K or even Panasonic LZ2000 to do it better on full 100% widow bc I know they will not disappointe us.
These are good points, but I’m sure that G2 will hit the same numbers with calibration. Remember this is a RUSH preliminary test and not a long time, multiple detailed sample test like the A90J had. This test was only done one 1 (or G2’s???) so there could be panel variance and etc with higher numbers also. It’s too soon and too many factors to make a final judgment on the G2 or any new 2022 tvs at that until we can thoroughly test them.

LG Electronic's new 2022 a9 Gen 5 processor has also been very nicely upgraded to be more powerful and the firmware has been tuned to take advantage of the larger dynamic tonal range and color volume.
Lol, I don’t know why people keep saying there isn’t a big improvement this year, it is. UA-cam videos don’t EVER do any screen viewing justice (between cameras dimming things down because it’s too bright vs another tv, or colors looking washed out through a camera or downscaling on capture devices and UA-cam lowering the quality for instance…). The processor alone is a BIG improvement over last year’s model (and I have a G1). There’s so much more, but these changes have already been mentioned. It’s just like last year’s A90J vs A80J debate. Everyone kept saying it’s not a big difference, but mostly everyone who saw both IN PERSON says it’s a big difference. Again, UA-cam videos give an idea, but you absolutely must compare and see these tvs in person. I’m telling y’all, the C2 and G2 are BIG improvements from last year (and again I have a G1). This is not to say that the C1 and G1 aren’t excellent tvs, they are simply stunning and amazing, but there is a big jump this year.

Super glarey reflective screen vs another Super glarey reflective screen. How much more clearly do you want to see the reflection of yourself sitting on the couch during the “inky black” dark scenes of your favorite movie/show/game?
I agree the ironic part is that with all those reflections you totally ruin the purpose of the "perfect blacks" of an OLED. If you see yourself and everything else in the black screen like a mirror then it ruins the movie you're watching. Imagine watching "Gravity" or something and half the time you see yourself floating around in the picture, lol.. Yet another reason why OLED lovers always do dark room. Because you don't have to have a direct light on the TV it's ANY light in the room at all and you run the risk of seeing the room and things in it reflected on the screen. It's so distracting. Want to know why they are so reflective and glossy? Because they have such low color volume at higher brightness and glossy screens up the color look.
@@loki76 these reasons are why I have become a fan of projectors despite the fading that occurs with ambient light. All I need is an ALR screen and modern projectors are getting there with the picture quality. I have been enjoying glare free high quality image viewing for 7+ years now.
Sony is the king crack head!
A90j is literally g1 level though in brightness. Check rtings.
How about Z2? Will you be reviewing that?
Yes, we'll have LG's first allocation of Z2 8K OLED TVs the week of April 25th.
@@NYC_Goody Hey just wondering did you get it and how is it?

People cannot tell the difference unless side by side in person and even then you need to be an expert. Most people cannot tell the difference. WOLED is pretty much tapped out by now. Heck even a C1 will be 'good enough' and save you money. QD-OLED is where it's at now.

Lg is better than Sony
@@samtech889 well not in terms of tv quality
@@techsamurai11 i think you are Sony fan boy😄
We just have to wait and see how QD OLEDs fare.

this is good but disappointed at the same time compare to last year A90J that can easily get close to 200 nits on 100% window after calibration. Hoping for A95K or even Panasonic LZ2000 to do it better on full 100% widow bc I know they will not disappointe us.
Good points!
It's brighter in smaller windows. Which is what counts.

Super glarey reflective screen vs another Super glarey reflective screen. How much more clearly do you want to see the reflection of yourself sitting on the couch during the “inky black” dark scenes of your favorite movie/show/game?
Finally someone have a balls to say about it. I hate this high reflection coating on modern TV's.
