IMPORTANT: If you are a VR user, check to see whether your headset will work in 24H2 before doing this. Apparently Microsoft has dropped "mixed reality" support from this, and some older headsets like the Reverb G2 won't work in 24 H2. Newer headsets like the Pimax, Meta Quest and such *should* still work, but do some googling please before updating! NOTE: Yes, I do realize that I didn't capture the in-cockpit audio in the sim, when I updated windows it reset my default audio devices! So all I caught was what my microphone picked up. Sorry about that, but I didn't want to redo the whole video just because of that.
@@paulsleighty I'm in the same boat, and I'm frankly disgusted at Microsoft's treatment of we (close to half a million) users who've invested a sizeable chunk of money in dependent hardware. They could have at least made it available to 3rd parties to do something with, or done something - ANYTHING - to decouple dependency from their software. But nope! It's "just never update Windows again". WTF, man.
To get 24H2 manually, on reddit i saw that there are some registry tweaks you can do to force the update via windows update. The tweaks can be deleted after. Worked great for me
I think I don’t get something, is this update already rolled out ? Yesterday night my windows ask me for an update (3min) but didn’t tchek what was it… currently at the job I can’t tchek
No, yesterday Windows asked you to install a cumulative monthly update PREVIEW, which includes features (not security updates/changes) that are planned to be released on the next patch Tuesday. No need to install these preview updates, just make sure you let Windows update itself every 2nd Tuesday of every month, as that's known as "patch Tuesday" in the IT industry. Those are the real important security updates. If you manually check for Windows updates now, you may or may not see the 24H2 (2024, 2nd Half) update available, depending on if Microsoft has pushed it to your endpoint yet. If you don't see it and you want to update to it, you can download and install it manually from Microsoft and mount the .iso file and run the setup.exe within it.
Thanks for the video. Ran into an issue where my ssd firmware had to be upgraded before it would install. Western Digital and some others will cause bsod. The upgrade process caught it and gave me the links to fix the issue.
What are you talking about? Direct Storage feature in DX12 must be implemented in game and this was not confirmed even in MSFS2024. It is not magicly activated in 24H2. This is like ray tracing is not available in all games until developers implement it. There were direct questions about DS on media event in september and the answer was like it is not even on their radar. . Why do you think that MSFS2020 suports 2.0 now without any updated client? Also, using USB instalation disk wil not vipe your data if you select update option during sturtup.....
IF you are running a recent MSI intel motherboard, you might want to wait. I did the update and it hosed my wifi connection speed and the wifi now drops and resets completely every few minutes. Rolling back to 23H2 got my system back to normal. With the 24H2 update the best download speed I could get was 45mb for about 20 seconds. So MSFS2020 kept dropping out of live mode and the marketplace went away. With 23H2 back, I am now getting my usual 538mb download speeds and no dropouts.
There are different user accounts because one is for logging in with Microsoft account and the other is for logging in without. They can both have the same user name if you used the same name when logging into your MS account. The first time you log into your MS account it creates a new user.

Yes 👍 Games that support it on NVME drives with direct storage can transfer data from the NVME drive directly to the video memory on the graphics card, cutting out the CPU and ram middle man. Side note, as of right now MSFS doesn't support direct storage API so this will not benefit load times yet. But I imagine FS2024 will at some point.
