    UPDATE: Re: the bolts for the "heater manifold", i.e. the rear crossover pipe. I specified T27, but T30 will work as well. T27 is a bit loose but T30 seems not to sit down into the bolt head as deeply as I would have liked. Either way it needs to be about 3" long, as discussed.

      One additional thing you should do, that I did not, is that as long as you are in there change out the PCV valve.
      After that of course, any and all hoses, thermostat etc. as you see fit.

      Just got internet back, still no power other than my generator. Houston, Hurricane Beryl...
      I just put it all back together and it was fine.
      Did you change all 8 of the intake manifold gaskets?
      Did one fall out and is missing?
      Did you cross connect those 2 grey connectors back there? I know some folks have and it throws error codes, but not sure which ones.
      It's an unfortunate design to have 2 exactly the same connectors in the same location that can easily be cross connected.
      Maybe clean the mass air flow sensors ?
      Go to LandRoverWorld.org and ask there. That code seems familiar and I bet the LR tech on the group can easily answer this.

    Best detailed video I found. Suggestions: The 2 grey wire connectors that were the same. It would have been helpful to show the wire colors of each connector in case someone removed both of them and then didn’t know which one went where. When pointing at a part, it would be helpful to use a screwdriver or even a laser pointer. The rear crossover is hard to get too. Take off the air filter housings, remove the coolant and power steering caps and cover their holes, lay towels around the body of the engine compartment to protect the rubber. If you have a thick piece of plywood, it can be laid flat right up against the hood struts. You can then climb up on top of the engine and literally lay down to work on the rear crossover. I did that. It was so much easier than having to climb inside the engine or lean way over into it. Also, when removing the rear crossover bolts, bunch up a towel below them in case you drop a bolt. Again this was a really good video. This is how videos should be made for people who have no idea what they’re doing. Great job.

    At 32:55 you show a blue/teal electrical connector that has a black and white wire and plugs into the plastic wiring harness. The part that the connector plugs into is actually the connectors housing. The housing is the part you show that has a hole in it. When removing the connector from the wiring harness, If you look straight down at the connector you will see a 1 inch tab right above the connector that runs parallel to it. If you pull up on the tab, you can remove the connector with its housing. This is easier than using a screwdriver to remove the connector. When reinstalling the connector just slide its housing back into the slot in the wiring harness. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the great video. I have a 2012 RR Sport HSE with 160k+ miles; just performed a combustion leak test on the cooling system to be sure my cooling issue (lose of coolant) wasn't from a blown head gasket. Using metric, because I can measure that more accurately.
      The handle at the widest is 80mm (8.0 cm) and the other dimension is 65mm (6.5cm).
      Remember, it's tight back in there, you need to cut that T-27 Torx to an appropriate length so that it can get the job done and allows for enough space for your hands. I started with a 4" on a socket and just cut the socket off and the remaining length was good for me. See the video at 1:08:55.

    • @txfromwi1947
      @txfromwi1947  Рік тому +1

      You can vacuum extract with any amount of coolant in the system - I did it 3 times on this project.
      BUT, if you extract with a mostly full system, when you are done the reservoir will by 100% full, which you do not want because then it's not an expansion tank. In that case you will need to remove coolant from the reservoir - I used a syringe.

    When I drain the radiator from the bottom small hose I get only 1.5gals approx. How do I get all the coolant out from the block and various lines? You mentioned you have a vacuum extractor. I have a mityvac fluid extractor and and pneumatic bleed/fill tool. Where do I hook up to extract?

    • @txfromwi1947
      @txfromwi1947  6 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching!
      The drain and refill procedures for all those various drain ports is significantly more involved and I did not take that approach. The mechanics manuals for the 2013 are easily available on-line and will address those exact procedures.
      Make sure you are draining at the main lower radiator hose, there are other coolant lines down there heading off to various locations and they would not give as complete a drain.
      The vacuum tools are not for removing coolant, they are for removing air in preparation for the refill. Getting coolant out is via draining. The MitiVac I think you are referring to is not the correct tool for this, you need a coolant vacuum/fill tool as described in the video.

    Well I just learned watching you that there's no way on earth I am going to attempt all of that when I have no experience at anything but oil change and topping off fluids LOL.
    It's been a pleasure watching someone that has the ability to do these projects and files.
    I unfortunately have atleast the front cross over leak but I may as well have Charlotte land rover do the rear while they got it apart.i already had a new water pump installed because the mechanic thought that's what was leaking .then thought the new one was leaking and ordered another new one and then found the root crossover is leaking not the water pump in the first place.
    I am waiting for the call back Monday on parts and labor to have it done.
    Parts I've checked and there not that bad.i just no labor is going to be ridiculous at a land rover dealer.
    If you have any idea what this whole project cost you to do yourself in parts and what labor is at land rover dealers I would appreciate the up front notice so I don't have a heart attack when they tell Monday.
    Thanks for this very informative and DIY video .
    I'm really regretting buying my 2010 land rover lr4 hse now.
    Bought it at 109,400 miles 2 yrs ago and this is the first big issue I've had but I'm having chronic kidney failure issues now and for the last 3 months one surgery and many many tests and another surgery to come in the next couple weeks.and bills coming in almost daily for all.of that and now this issue just won't stop with the land rover.
    Not in a position to trade with the prices of vehicles now.so stuck with it and it's issues.
    I absolutely love the vehicle and driving it is a blast but now I'm having regrets.
    Just praying somehow it all works out for the better.

      Update: had my lr4 rolled backed 45 miles to the LR dealer and they had it for 5 days.ended up being both the front and rear crossover pipes leaking and the 2nd water pump the mechanic I had work on it up here was leaking and when the LR tech took the water pump he said the nipple and pipe fell out they were broke so that was done by the guy up here that charged me $967.79 For the water pump coolant and labor .needless to say my LR4 will never visit that place or him again and the review I gave him and that garage proves it.
      They reply to all reviews,well they have not replied to mine and they won't and all I care is that people thinking of having them do any more then change tires, Oil service,inspections or change wiper blades reads my review.
      I was and am in a tight financial situation plus health issues and didn't need this but live and learn I suppose. Should ha e just bit the bullet and strait to LAND ROVER.
      . That was actually a great experience. Land rover charlotte is a great trustworthy place to take your vehicles. excellent quality work at a fair price.
      Did cost me $2167 but what had to be done was a very extensive time consuming project. Gary Buss the tech supervisor over a team.of techs discou Ted alot of it because of what I had already been through and my health issues and another upcoming kidney surgery march 1st.
      Gary is a very caring honest man that goes above and beyond for anyone that's in a bind .
      When my LR LR4 arrived there a guy called me an David it would be $175 just to diagnose the issues and that it would be 6 weeks before they could even get it in to work on it I said woah I've already talked to Gary Buss and he's going to work it in and he got mad and said I will have Gary call you and hung up.so I was extremely happy the receptionist hooked me up with Gary because the other dork was a butthole and wasn't going to help me at all.
      I needed my vehicle done an dback within the week because of tests and preop leading up to my surgery coming.
      Gary made sure that happened and even had my rover all washed and cleaned inside and out mats and all and all shined up. Them shipped it backnto me free of charge. Now that is service the way it should be.. my mom who.lives in.northern PA had gone to the hospital in an ambulance while my rover was down there and I told Gary about it and after that he asked me how my 88 yr old mom was 3 differ times during the week.the guy is a saint.
      So that's my bad but ended up great story with NY land rover.
      .. it was a 3.month ordeal from the start of the coolant leak to the day land rover charlotte got it back to me running great and no.more leaks .great job and you sir no just how involved that project is after doing it all your self.
      .. BTW Gary went ahead and had his tech replace the thermostat for me free of charge labor as well. I've never been treated so well by anyone.Gary Buss is a great man and service manager and juggles many many things at once to make people happy with land rover charlotte.

      Parts costs are up front in the video. Total parts (Dec 2021) were $556, then zip ties and fender clips were another $21. Thanks for the comments - all the best on the medical issues...

    Hey is this basically the same for the 2013 Range Rover Sport? Also what section/chapter do you find the procedure on in the workshop manual? Thanks!

    • @txfromwi1947
      @txfromwi1947  2 роки тому

      Should be similar, but I am sure there are differences. The manuals are thousands of pages long and there is not specific location for this entire project, there are bit and pieces all throughout the manual for each of the bits and pieces.

    I bought a 2015 LR4 this past weekend. Each of your videos provides details of jobs that I plan to do on my LR4. Thank you for each one of them. Have you done timing chain and tensioner work on your cars yet? I am looking for info on that before I give it a shot. Btw, I am in Houston as well. Thanks

      Thanks! I have not done the tensioners/timing chains yet, but from the forums I am told that it's a relatively straight forward job.

    I’m researching how to replace the crossover for a friend. From the looks of it, we could hold the manifold up and out of the way and replace the crossover, without actually having to pull it out and mess with that rear harness. Is this possible in your opinion?
    Also, thanks for the detailed write up!

    • @txfromwi1947
      @txfromwi1947  2 роки тому

      Thanks! If you are referring to the front crossover - yes I agree that you don't need to totally remove the manifold - but you really need to be replacing the rear crossover, the clips on the bottom of the manifold and the intake gaskets - all of which require you to remove the manifold. And as long as you are in there - the water pump and the oil cooler tube and gasket - and those are much easier to access with the manifold out of the way - but yes, you could get to them with the manifold just held back The rear wiring harness bit is quick and easy - it's just a cover that needs to come off.
      I have actually popped this manifold back out again - and now that I have done it once, the second time really is a 15 minute job - it's all in knowing what to do. Good Luck!

    Why did you ruin this well detailed presentation by recording the video vertically?
    What a shame.

    • @txfromwi1947

      I record vertically so I can put comments in the margins and they can actually be legible.
      If I record horizontally the comments go over the video and cannot always be read.
