To be honest Leon's old model from GameCube still looks absolutely phenomenal considering how old the game is.
Great art direction is timeless
Blinded by nostalgia.
@@jackjax7921 Nah. First time I played RE4 was after I played Uncharted 4 and I think the game looks great, especially the models.
Yea but there was also Crysis😂
@@jackjax7921 yes a blind sheep like you on drug addict Leon remake and runs like he has a broken back lmfao.
When RE4 first came out on GC, I thought the graphics looked freakin amazing. And frankly it still does considering how old it is. It was one of the best looking games of that era.
When the original came out in PC in 2007, I thought it would have the same system requirements as Gears of War, lmao.
That's true bro the original game was ahead of it's time..
Brothers, try the HD project, the environments in this game are stunning
That’s because the Gamecube was far more powerful than a PS2. Go back and play RE1 remake. Gamecube in 2002 had graphics almost close to a PS3 launch title game in 2006.
Starfox Adventures looked amazing too.
The original has held up incredibly well over the years, but damn, the remake is gorgeous. The characters and locations look phenomenal.
In 10 years time the remake will look dated while the OG will still look timeless. Art direction is king, and the remake took took a hit in that area in exchange for higher fidelity.
@@ISetYourFaceOnFire the gap between then will also widen considering the HD Project mods improved textures
@@ISetYourFaceOnFire Eh, personally I think the original’s graphics are outdated, it just holds up better than other games at the time, which is why it stands out.
@@ISetYourFaceOnFire You nostalgia psychos are wild. The og won't look "timeless." It didn't have some unique art direction, it was trying to look real but failed (though probably did look very realistic when it came out). In 10 years time the remake will still look great while the OG will remain bad and outdated.

I remember just being in awe and amazement at how unique and individual the story for this game was. Never played or experienced anything like it and still comes out on top of one of my all time favourite games ever made
Which is kinda funny how the development of the original went through like 4 or 5 builds and nearly all of them being tossed out.
Ending up creating 3 new IPs.
So with an even shorter deadline due to them not knowing wht to do with the game. They just wrote the overall layout of the story's script within 3 days, threw in some ideas pulled from prev builds and just slapped them all together. lol
Pretty impressive and amusing how some of the beloved games just come from a "Fuck it" attitude.
The story isn't anything to bat an eyelash at. That why the new titles are still so meh. Gameplay is what Resident Evil has always been about. The survival horror feeling you get which was destroyed by 4. $ and onwards could be titles under a different or new ip and it wouldn't have made a difference. They are just generic over the shoulder action games now which there are a million. 4 only did well because it was a pioneer into that style of play. Something based on fixed camera would be nice, we haven't had anything like that in forever. The level of horror they could manufacture with todays tech would be unimaginable.

Is a lot of it changed from daylight to night? I loved how in the original the daylight was made so depressing, murky etc. In my opinion, that atmosphere was way scarier than nighttime.
The beginning of the remake takes place during the early morning, shifts into day by the time you reach the village, and then the afternoon after you leave Mendez's house. It doesn’t take place during the night until after the Del Lago fight.
The time of day is relatively unchanged aside from the very beginning of the game which appears to be early in the morning. Other than that its still day time and night time during the same chapters.

Resident evil 4 has a special place in my heart I will never forget.
They should've made a system where there is an option to give a kitcken knife/boot knife to ashley for when she got grabbed once, she could break free in expense of the blade.
Omg yes. I always sold those dumb kitchen knives anyway. Thats a great idea
shes less annoying in the og because she stick to your back and doesn't get grabbed as much, they should've made her run away from enemies
@@Koi33.bro, I think you mean she's less annoying in the remake, far more personality and character and wayy more useful than the og
My friend and I actually discussed the exact same idea the other day while playing the game. It would've been a cool mechanic if you could give Ashley one of the knives you find throughout the game. If she got grabbed, she could use the knife to temporarily stun the enemy and get away. This, of course, would completely deplete the knife's durability. It's not a big deal that they didn't include it, but I think it would've been a nice mechanic and would've made sense for Leon to give Ashley a weapon to defend herself (and it makes more sense than giving her a gun).
@@jadenmcmillan4306 Completely agree with you.

Ashley does help now and again, in fact the room with the Plaga Armor she will drop blue fire laterns on them so leon can take them down, also she can now kick down ladders for use and even unlock doors, so yes she does help now and again
that's what im sayinn
She'll also drop a regenerator in the sewage or whatever if you don't kill it in that one section where one pops out from the trash at you as you're switching the power.
She's the new Master of Unlocking. Of course she's helpful
About the Church exterior puzzle: the glyph combo one was duplicated and made mandatory in the chapter after del lago. I thought that would've been obvious.
The Hexagon puzzle is mlm mostly new, but I feel it's an alternate take on the Sliding Block Puzzle. Optional, to the relief of some players, but kinda fun.
Your videos are straight up EVENTS for me. It’s like going to a midnight premiere for a great film kind of excitement when I see these videos drop. Great work!
This video is incredible. So in depth and very informative if you're new to the original or the remake. Helped me a lot with the remake especially.
Finally! I've been checking your channel for the last few for this video
Phenomenal in depth comparison as ever. Appreciate this one more than any you've done i think since I've been so invested in RE4r since launch
I can't stress enough how much I was looking forward to this video!
Amazing quality vid as always! both masterpieces on their own way.
May i ask if you'll ever do a comparison video for the Metroid Prime Remaster? i was wainting for something from your channel but it never came :(
what an absolute treat that is. metroid prime is amazing and the remaster is incredible. It hold up remarkably well on every front, gameplay, sound, new controls and big graphical overhaul that absolutely keeps the original design and atmosphere intact.
Thanks for the timestamps man. Had a great time with the video without ruining my experience.
As an FYI as well. The cable cars from the OG game are actually still featured in the remake. In chapter 1 when you reach the house with the Luis battle, if u go behind that.. there's the cable cars
I've beaten OG RE4 20+ times and just wrapped up my 8th playthrough of the remake after getting the platinum. Amazing video!
Touch grass its not funny
Tell me you're a virgin without telling me you're a virgin
If I wanna play the extra content not in the RE4 Remake (as of 3/31/23), I can always go back and play it. Both are great masterpieces and for both similar and different reasons.
I liked how you said this isn't a video about what game is better rather you're just comparing them and seeing what improvements have been made. I've seen so many that are saying oh the remake is 1000 times better or that the original is better cause of x y and z. The best part is that if you like the original better you can still play it instead. Which to me is the best part about a remake
And honest comparison, not like Crowcat gaslight
I cannot be the only one that feels the original's atmosphere remains superior, even to this day. Don't get me wrong, the Remake did an outstanding job with every setting, everything looks like a picture and all, but I loved how in the original everything looks and feels... dead. I don't know if this was intentional, but there's something about those sepia-like colors that make me feel like it's more coherent with the setting, at least in the Village. It brings you down, and makes you feel hopeless, or at edge. I honestly think that while the Remake is excellent, and this may sound weird, but it doesn't do anything for me!
Couldn't agree more re the sepia tones working better. Maybe a mod will come out on pc...
Agree 100%. The original will always hold a dear place in my heart

Just finished the game like 10 min ago. LOVED IT! Now it's time to get some chips and watch this video
I love both versions. I’m already on my fifth run of the remake and still love the experience. I don’t know what it is, but I just want to play it again and again. :)
Damn I wish it was like that for me. For some reason, I could replay re2r over and over again, but like 3/4 in thru my 1st playthrough of re4r, i couldnt wait for the game to be over. I just dont get the overwhelming amount of hype around this game

Try to install the first person mod and replay it, it's obviously the same but feels very different.
I wish Ashley could have the wait option instead of give space cause she can cause ypu to get seen often even when she's close to you cause she won't go into certain areas with you if the game thinks it's too small.
i think they did that to balance it because in the original she had her own health bar but now shes pretty much invincible you just have to actually watch out for her if you try to sneak.
É só deixar a ashley em um armário aguardando
This was cool 👍 I would love to see a comparison with this brand new official AAA remake and the RE4HD Project mod that was released a few years back for the original PC version. It's an incredible achievement in modding (better than most professional HD remakes ever made) and I think it looks very modern and sooo much closer to the new game, compared to Capcoms original "HD" PC effort that you compare here. With the bonus of keeping all the original game play, controls and original script intact. Totally preserving the original feel that made it a classic/masterpiece, plus it still includes all the cheesy stuff! 😅
Awesome video, in the sound section, I would have liked to see you talk about the Music of each game and the sounds of the weapons with a side by side comparison. still good though!
Would also love to see a comparation between RE 2 remake and RE 4 remake. Either way, keep up the great work. ❤
nothing big really. RE4 wins in the graphical department by a long shot.
but both games are pretty to look at
I remember playing this on the PS2 and after playing the remake it's phenomenal. The nostalgia still brings fear even in my 20's.
You can store items at any time no typewriter needed. The laser sight can also be put on the Sentinel Pistol.
Can people please be honest about this "remake"?
It was a 75% graphics upgrade, with a few additions/removals/move-arounds to the map.
Sure, I had fun playing this game again. But that's exactly what it felt like, like I was re-playing the same game as before with some minor improvements.
Everyone is treating this like it's one of the best games ever made. So I'm assuming there's a good chance many of those people have either never played the entire original game or haven't played it at all.
Ok well what are your thoughts on the remake, hm? Anything? Just wondering
So because people don't share your opinion of the game they aren't being honest?
most of those comments are made by kids that have an inferiority complex so they look for any reason to feel "superior" to others.
@@ians_parks If they've never played the original they have no right to speak on it.
@@HenryMyth Who says that they are? I'm talking about when OG fans get all pissy over new fans having fun with the remake. As if they must be lying to themselves for talking about how much they enjoyed it.
Seeing Hewey from haunting grounds in the re4 remake in a more realistic appearance was so sick. Very weird but I think haunting grounds while it wouldn't fly very well in current day due to it's dark story and uncomfortable sexual undertones it feels really cool and surreal looking at Hewey and wondering what a modern remake of haunting grounds could look like in terms of graphics and scares.
Haunting Ground needs a remake, especially for those who missed out on it originally.
I've been so inpatient for this video! Thank you nick 🙏🙏
Honestly, I think Leon has cooler quips. My favorite has to be him stating he's more into monogamous relationships than 3 ways! XD (his greeting to the Bella Sisters, btw)
ashley actually DOES help, throwing blue lamps, solving pull cord puzzles with you, not to mention throws you the key to evac, give our girl some credit yo
She may not be the most helpful AI companion ever.
But atleast the remake one doesn't cause you a ridiculous amount of trouble and stress like the original, which I honestly can say is a beeg w.
She also in a couple Cutscenes she helps Leon out, hell she shoots two of saddler's little goons as she is resisting his control, she also yells Leon lot less than original and even struggles to escape from getting picked up, yeah you need to still save her but the girl does indeed deserve some credit lol and she would make a fine Agent with the right training lol
in fact i like to imagine that after Remake Leon taught her some offensive and defensive stuff in case some criminals or regular terrorists decide to kidnap her, yeah just imagine a terrorist or criminal running into Ashley with a gun aimed at their face lol
Considering Leon didn’t need a key, she pretty much did the same exact thing in the OG. Like, y’all really out here acting like Ashley did absolutely nothing, and then praise the remake for doing one thing
@@gibleyman that’s a skill issue if she caused you problems in the OG

Og leon was the best of the best. He’s the type of guy you’d go in a bar to have a few drinks with. He’s also cool, and collected and badass at the same time imo he just looks friendly. I also like how og leon exude so much charisma and confidence too.
With the remake, ill get a lot of hate comments but he looks so emotional distant and gloomy, and in some cutscenes i would of thought he was a villain at some points because of how serious they tried to make him with his face. He’s definitely not the guy you’d want to hang with cause he’d probably wouldn’t shut up about his past lmao again no offence.
Btw Paul Mercier did a superb job at voicing leon. He had the perfect calm yet firm tone and just feels so natural to me.
Yes 2004 was different life and way of being and that cant be remade in people and the new Leon can never be cool and beautiful like the original
OG Leon was was basically Dante from DMC he didn’t take nothing seriously considering the danger he was In which felt so outta character remake Leon is much more realistic dude actually has trauma from what he seen.
@@marquiswolf2766 no one was like that in 2004. If you were a human you werent a loser like in remake.
@@MartinBueno-xf3hc what made Remake Leon a loser? Was it because he was serious like he should’ve been in the situation he was in OG4 Leon was a whole cartoon character
@@MartinBueno-xf3hc Odd thing to say. Just because they dialed back the cartoonish BS doesn’t disqualify Leon from being a cool guy. Look, I love a cheesy movie like Evil Dead on occasion, but the original RE 4 was cheesy to the point of being a flaw. It was way too much. The remake manages to keep enough cheese to evoke classic RE 4 sometimes, but not so much as to outright kill anyone with lactose intolerance. They balanced it pretty well.

My only issue is the back half needed 1 more boss. Maybe a longer last boss fight
The RPG room and cage room in the castle level were areas i was worried about in the remake, i like them but those rooms would've been quite a challenge with how the remake plays. Overall i really enjoyed the remake and i can always go back to the updated classic. The first thing i did playing the remake was to replace the new ost with the classic, the evil malaise soundtrack just fit so damn good during the sections it played at. Played through it on hardcore and have to say, it feels like they've made ammo less common despite the gunpowder and resources to craft some. The classic strategy didn't work out as great as in the original and i even had to sell guns and try different ones. The room at 25:12 was hard due to ammo.
Think the "poverty" system still applies from the original. So if you have surplus ammo the game is more likely to give you ptas instead of ammo. Not sure if the REmake engine counts gunpowder and resources too. So might be better to break barrels/pots/boxes when you're actually strapped for ammo or store/sell the weapon you hardly use to increase the chances for needed ammo of the weapon type. There's definitely guaranteed spawn types too just like how it was in the Original so can plan/hoard around those.
@@BlakeAterI haven't found gunpowder and resources to end up scarce. I don't think the game's code is properly reading those as potential ammo in the poverty system.
17:50 Ashley came in clutch with those blue flame lanterns that she dropped on the Suit of Armor Plagas

Which one shall I buy ?
@@gurugamer8632 It depends on your preference. What I like about the og is that the first villager that you encounter wasnt actually a ganado, and was kinda just warning you, yes he tries to hit you with an axe but my proofs are, 1 he dies easier 2 he doesn’t have red eyes and 3 the way he is just living and using the the fire is not the same zombi-ish way that they do in the village
But just look in his house. Too many skulls. It proves he kill many people. Even if Leon leaves the house, I think he will follow Leon to kill him.
The remake was better and I'm usually a traditionalist kind of guy. The amount they added to it and the things they changed were done in such a masterful way. Changing Ada was the only complaint I had for this game. The Ada in RE2 remake was so much more vibrant and felt like she actually cared about the role she was playing.
The camera focusing on where Leon is facing is more logical, more realistic, and those overall add to the immersion. It makes the threat real, because if you glance behind to look over your shoulder, you are exposing your back again.
Its almost two different games 👍 But i payed the GC Original at his release, 2 Months after the PS2 Version. And those two versions had also they differences. As example BearTraps and enemy’s was different placed in both versions.

I really like the Remake, but I personally am also disappointed that so many memorable moments & areas were cut. I personally would have preferred they kept some of them in. Some needed change, but some were just a detriment. For example, when heading up to fight Salazar, you took the tram-cars, which was a enjoyable experience. This led you to the path up to the barn where you fight Salazar and you could see the barn as you approached. In the Remake, you just arrive there, which just feels random & cheap, imho.

One design change I do not like is that the game is set at night... one of the best parts of the original version was that it was set in a kind of overcast daytime light that was eerily realistic and scary. I'm tired of playing horror games in the dark, it's such a trope.
It only takes place at night after the Del Lago fight, no different than the original.

I just love RE2 remake and RE3 remake and now that i finish RE4 remake with this new gen of graphics, i hope capcom would remake code veronica re5 and 6 in the future
The creepy picture puzzle seems to have been combined with the sword puzzle.
I think my biggest gripe about the remake are the guns : they feel plasticky, the Red9, almost a magnum sized pistol, feel and sound like an airsoft
do honestly miss the incendiary grenades feels a bit weird without them
About two hours ago I search for resident evil 4 vs remake comparison by nick and was disappointed in not finding any video
I was so worried they'd skip on the camp, one liners and action movie stuff. RE4 was the game that got me into the franchise even though i'd played the previous games.
YES right thank you RE4 ORIGINAL is still better than remake cut content and changes But remake less camp and full drama dark bad
I guess it would have been nice if Ashley could, I don't know, throw a brick like Ellie in TLOU or something to get you out of a dire situation, but honestly she's usually the target. So I really see no issue in how she gets captured a lot, that's the whole point after all
She throws lamps at certain enemies at one point. There's a few notable interactions here and there but honestly, compared to the original IMO she's not out that often to complain about.
Also Ellie is a kid that grew up in an apocalyptic world while Ashley is just a typical Civilian and the president's daughter (so probably pampered/spoon-fed with no combat experience).
@Nayrohtoh Oh she does? I didn't even know. I agree with you, I'm not saying she should be like Ellie
Felt in love with remake ashley. So gorgeous
please also note, the pc version has three different releases from two different studios, the first two is released by Ubisoft witch is unfortunate, the last one before the remake is from qloc which did the 8th generation portish
Great job! Thank you for your time and effort! I still prefer the original with all its charm, the wit and the puzzles! 😊
That’s strange, considering that the remake has more puzzles than the original by far.
I personally prefer the remake, thanks to the new parry system, expanded gun range, stealth mechanics, new treasure combining system, new gore system, side quests, and more fleshed out characters/ story. To each their own!
With the newer systems, I would have loved to see some improved ragdoll deaths and also pretty bummed they didn’t make the lake monster Del Lago kill Leon in a more gruesome death (instead just implying his death now).
It also seems they made the game shorter with cutting some stages and boss fights.
Overall though it’s mostly an improved enjoyable experience that I’m exciting to be replaying like I would the original!
pretty sure there is a setting for it on pc
Most of the stuff that was cut was probably necessary, like the fight with UH-3(I think that's it) it was pretty random and had no tie ins but is gonna be in the DLC
forgot to mention that a good chunk of rng is set loot tables such as the shooting range gacha machine
Looking at RE4 original really blows my mind still about the massive jump in graphics from N64 to GameCube
Hoping 5 gets remade. It's always been my favourite
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bruh
It is! If you already finishing the re4 remake you already knew about this
Y'all laughing at this guy but RE5 is actually great. It's just more RE4. A full co-op game that plays like RE4 remake would be badass.
If RE5 gets remake they will probably change a lot of the story or gameplay element.. I see they are looking to connect the remakes to fit with re7 narrative
The original will always have a special place in my heart. So I'm a bit disappointed that the remake removed a lot of the silliness and charm, but it's still a great game. These are both good versions of RE4 with their own strengths and weaknesses

of course Ashley looked younger in the OG, they used the Sherry's polygonal model at the last minute, that proves that Leon was supposed to go rescue Sherry and not Ashley and it would've made more sense considering the RE3 epilogues and what the Wesker's report says...
Great video man. I'm pretty sure you can put weapons in your storage anywhere at anytime. Not just at the type writer.
You can send stuff to storage at any time, but you can't take anything out unless you're at a typewriter.
I think it's funny that The evil within was heavy influenced by original RE4. I know that it's the same creator. And now in the RE4R it takes elements from The evil within. Like the stealth and the crossbow.
Played evil within 2 and loved it
the bolt thrower was already in the original game, just on the wii version or ps2, one of the 2
It is good, take anything from anywhere if it is good, loved evil within 1 and 2, looking forward to play evil within 3 in near future.
Did you know evil within is the same developer as the original re4?
@@fightingforce8498 Yes, but evil within series has better gameplay and songs.
The fight with the 2 garradors in the cage at the castle is modified to be in a different location...it is actually done a lot better in the remake.
Huh? No, thats just the exterior of salazars throne room. Its not the same fight as the cage trap.
Those 2 garradors and that room are in both the original and the remake
Also, is it me, or are there fewer bells on higher difficulties? I beat the journey on hardcore first, and then during my standard run i found 3 total bells instead of 1. If so, nice touch!
It still has the action flick from a B-movie, but what changed was the atmosphere true to its survival horror genre.
