They should've made a system where there is an option to give a kitcken knife/boot knife to ashley for when she got grabbed once, she could break free in expense of the blade.
My friend and I actually discussed the exact same idea the other day while playing the game. It would've been a cool mechanic if you could give Ashley one of the knives you find throughout the game. If she got grabbed, she could use the knife to temporarily stun the enemy and get away. This, of course, would completely deplete the knife's durability. It's not a big deal that they didn't include it, but I think it would've been a nice mechanic and would've made sense for Leon to give Ashley a weapon to defend herself (and it makes more sense than giving her a gun).

Your videos are straight up EVENTS for me. It’s like going to a midnight premiere for a great film kind of excitement when I see these videos drop. Great work!
About the Church exterior puzzle: the glyph combo one was duplicated and made mandatory in the chapter after del lago. I thought that would've been obvious. The Hexagon puzzle is mlm mostly new, but I feel it's an alternate take on the Sliding Block Puzzle. Optional, to the relief of some players, but kinda fun.
I wish Ashley could have the wait option instead of give space cause she can cause ypu to get seen often even when she's close to you cause she won't go into certain areas with you if the game thinks it's too small.
i think they did that to balance it because in the original she had her own health bar but now shes pretty much invincible you just have to actually watch out for her if you try to sneak.
I cannot be the only one that feels the original's atmosphere remains superior, even to this day. Don't get me wrong, the Remake did an outstanding job with every setting, everything looks like a picture and all, but I loved how in the original everything looks and feels... dead. I don't know if this was intentional, but there's something about those sepia-like colors that make me feel like it's more coherent with the setting, at least in the Village. It brings you down, and makes you feel hopeless, or at edge. I honestly think that while the Remake is excellent, and this may sound weird, but it doesn't do anything for me!
As an FYI as well. The cable cars from the OG game are actually still featured in the remake. In chapter 1 when you reach the house with the Luis battle, if u go behind that.. there's the cable cars
If I wanna play the extra content not in the RE4 Remake (as of 3/31/23), I can always go back and play it. Both are great masterpieces and for both similar and different reasons.
I liked how you said this isn't a video about what game is better rather you're just comparing them and seeing what improvements have been made. I've seen so many that are saying oh the remake is 1000 times better or that the original is better cause of x y and z. The best part is that if you like the original better you can still play it instead. Which to me is the best part about a remake
The remake was better and I'm usually a traditionalist kind of guy. The amount they added to it and the things they changed were done in such a masterful way. Changing Ada was the only complaint I had for this game. The Ada in RE2 remake was so much more vibrant and felt like she actually cared about the role she was playing.
I love both versions. I’m already on my fifth run of the remake and still love the experience. I don’t know what it is, but I just want to play it again and again. :)
Damn I wish it was like that for me. For some reason, I could replay re2r over and over again, but like 3/4 in thru my 1st playthrough of re4r, i couldnt wait for the game to be over. I just dont get the overwhelming amount of hype around this game

She may not be the most helpful AI companion ever. But atleast the remake one doesn't cause you a ridiculous amount of trouble and stress like the original, which I honestly can say is a beeg w.
She also in a couple Cutscenes she helps Leon out, hell she shoots two of saddler's little goons as she is resisting his control, she also yells Leon lot less than original and even struggles to escape from getting picked up, yeah you need to still save her but the girl does indeed deserve some credit lol and she would make a fine Agent with the right training lol in fact i like to imagine that after Remake Leon taught her some offensive and defensive stuff in case some criminals or regular terrorists decide to kidnap her, yeah just imagine a terrorist or criminal running into Ashley with a gun aimed at their face lol

I don’t know what it is but the original sound design just holds such a special place in my heart. I loved the ending credits with the hand drawn images of the villagers before Salazar and the melancholy music. Love that there is an option to revert to the original music/sfx in the remake☺️
Seeing Hewey from haunting grounds in the re4 remake in a more realistic appearance was so sick. Very weird but I think haunting grounds while it wouldn't fly very well in current day due to it's dark story and uncomfortable sexual undertones it feels really cool and surreal looking at Hewey and wondering what a modern remake of haunting grounds could look like in terms of graphics and scares.
I really like the Remake, but I personally am also disappointed that so many memorable moments & areas were cut. I personally would have preferred they kept some of them in. Some needed change, but some were just a detriment. For example, when heading up to fight Salazar, you took the tram-cars, which was a enjoyable experience. This led you to the path up to the barn where you fight Salazar and you could see the barn as you approached. In the Remake, you just arrive there, which just feels random & cheap, imho.
Og leon was the best of the best. He’s the type of guy you’d go in a bar to have a few drinks with. He’s also cool, and collected and badass at the same time imo he just looks friendly. I also like how og leon exude so much charisma and confidence too. With the remake, ill get a lot of hate comments but he looks so emotional distant and gloomy, and in some cutscenes i would of thought he was a villain at some points because of how serious they tried to make him with his face. He’s definitely not the guy you’d want to hang with cause he’d probably wouldn’t shut up about his past lmao again no offence. Btw Paul Mercier did a superb job at voicing leon. He had the perfect calm yet firm tone and just feels so natural to me.
OG Leon was was basically Dante from DMC he didn’t take nothing seriously considering the danger he was In which felt so outta character remake Leon is much more realistic dude actually has trauma from what he seen.
@@MartinBueno-xf3hc what made Remake Leon a loser? Was it because he was serious like he should’ve been in the situation he was in OG4 Leon was a whole cartoon character
@@MartinBueno-xf3hc Odd thing to say. Just because they dialed back the cartoonish BS doesn’t disqualify Leon from being a cool guy. Look, I love a cheesy movie like Evil Dead on occasion, but the original RE 4 was cheesy to the point of being a flaw. It was way too much. The remake manages to keep enough cheese to evoke classic RE 4 sometimes, but not so much as to outright kill anyone with lactose intolerance. They balanced it pretty well.
I played re4 so much on GameCube. Countless hours. I just started the remake 2 days ago and just got to the castle. I am enjoying it alot, but feel like its missing some of the charm and horror from the original. Especially the village after you first meet ashley, the darkness and suspense of that area used to scare the crap out of me. And then the gondola ride before the big cheese boss fight. I was kind of bummed out that wasnt in the game. The fortress area after the cabin fight was different too, but it wasnt horrible by any means. With all of that said, the improvements in the remake are really good and i am glad i am playing it. Brings back so many childhood memories.
@@leonkennedy3398 I agree, for the most part. Some things were done better in the remake, but also some things were done better in the original. But I just don't see the point in your comment at all. The original is one of my favourite games of all time and they absolutely nailed it with this remake, the only thing i don't like (and i had this problem with the original too) is having to grind pesetas to get the special weapon
@@gurugamer8632 It depends on your preference. Amazing quality vid as always! both masterpieces on their own way. May i ask if you'll ever do a comparison video for the Metroid Prime Remaster? i was wainting for something from your channel but it never came :(
what an absolute treat that is. metroid prime is amazing and the remaster is incredible. It hold up remarkably well on every front, gameplay, sound, new controls and big graphical overhaul that absolutely keeps the original design and atmosphere intact.
Honestly, I never connected with the original RE4 as much as many fans. I don't know, the beginning was awesome and then it just got weird and even boring. Bosses were more annoying than challenging and some set pieces were straight out of a B action movie. Now, about the REMAKE, taking The Mercenaries and Separate Ways into account... MARVELOUS! Even though it's not perfect, it's absolutely amazing. I can't stop playing it.
surprisingly, i never got around to playing the OG - at least not fully. just in pieces, at friend's houses. i first played the remake and was blown away by how amazing the gameplay & story was. incredible. i just got a meta quest 3 and i'm now playing the og in VR, which is fun as HELL lol. definitely a game that holds up 20 years later. if only the remake was playable in vr (pcvr, not psvr)!!!
The RPG room and cage room in the castle level were areas i was worried about in the remake, i like them but those rooms would've been quite a challenge with how the remake plays. Overall i really enjoyed the remake and i can always go back to the updated classic. The first thing i did playing the remake was to replace the new ost with the classic, the evil malaise soundtrack just fit so damn good during the sections it played at. Played through it on hardcore and have to say, it feels like they've made ammo less common despite the gunpowder and resources to craft some. The classic strategy didn't work out as great as in the original and i even had to sell guns and try different ones. The room at 25:12 was hard due to ammo.
Think the "poverty" system still applies from the original. So if you have surplus ammo the game is more likely to give you ptas instead of ammo. Not sure if the REmake engine counts gunpowder and resources too. So might be better to break barrels/pots/boxes when you're actually strapped for ammo or store/sell the weapon you hardly use to increase the chances for needed ammo of the weapon type. There's definitely guaranteed spawn types too just like how it was in the Original so can plan/hoard around those.
@@BlakeAterI haven't found gunpowder and resources to end up scarce. I don't think the game's code is properly reading those as potential ammo in the poverty system.
I was in the camp that "this doesn't need a remake" then i played the demo lol. It looks and feels fantastic. Buying it on sale in a couple days. RE4 was the first game to deviate away from the traditional formula i love, but it's still an awesome RE game. 5 and 6 not so much.
Awesome video, in the sound section, I would have liked to see you talk about the Music of each game and the sounds of the weapons with a side by side comparison. still good though!
What I like about the og is that the first villager that you encounter wasnt actually a ganado, and was kinda just warning you, yes he tries to hit you with an axe but my proofs are, 1 he dies easier 2 he doesn’t have red eyes and 3 the way he is just living and using the the fire is not the same zombi-ish way that they do in the village
The camera focusing on where Leon is facing is more logical, more realistic, and those overall add to the immersion. It makes the threat real, because if you glance behind to look over your shoulder, you are exposing your back again.
Currently playing the remake and it literally blows my mind how beautiful it is. When companies say “remaster” this is what I picture. Not Grand Theft Auto Definitive Addition😂
Honestly, I think Leon has cooler quips. My favorite has to be him stating he's more into monogamous relationships than 3 ways! XD (his greeting to the Bella Sisters, btw)
I never had my own computer until this year, so i used to always watch the og game and its hard to believe that i can finally play them all myself after the remake came out lolol
I was surprised with the u3 boss part, first time playing a remake where a whole boss fight was scrapped out. I quickly noticed they cut it out after I beat krasuser and noticed theres no underground area.
Honestly a part of me was kinda glad they cut it out. U3 was among my least favorite boss fight in an RE game. Whole section was something of a drag and feels like it’s kinda just there just cause
One design change I do not like is that the game is set at night... one of the best parts of the original version was that it was set in a kind of overcast daytime light that was eerily realistic and scary. I'm tired of playing horror games in the dark, it's such a trope.
@@blueflare3848 From the video, it looks very much like at the beginning, they arrive at night, with the car having lights on, and as he walks thru the forest, it's quite dark. Even if it's at dusk/evening, it's certainly much darker-appearing than the original!
@@ThomasKrul It's light outside by the time he reaches the village. It didn't take him all night to get there, that's just absurd. The intro takes place in the early morning, right before the sun comes up. I mean, it's still dark at three o'clock in the morning in real life, but that doesn't mean it's night time.
That’s strange, considering that the remake has more puzzles than the original by far. I personally prefer the remake, thanks to the new parry system, expanded gun range, stealth mechanics, new treasure combining system, new gore system, side quests, and more fleshed out characters/ story. To each their own!
It’s amazing how faithful the remake is even allowing you to use the og sound effects. I also like that U3 was saved for Separate Ways with Ada as it makes more sense for her to be jumping through lasers
I think it's funny that The evil within was heavy influenced by original RE4. I know that it's the same creator. And now in the RE4R it takes elements from The evil within. Like the stealth and the crossbow.
I just love RE2 remake and RE3 remake and now that i finish RE4 remake with this new gen of graphics, i hope capcom would remake code veronica re5 and 6 in the future
The original will always have a special place in my heart. So I'm a bit disappointed that the remake removed a lot of the silliness and charm, but it's still a great game. These are both good versions of RE4 with their own strengths and weaknesses
If RE5 gets remake they will probably change a lot of the story or gameplay element.. I see they are looking to connect the remakes to fit with re7 narrative
I first played on the PS2 in 2005 and after playing RES 3 and others I was so happy with the new camera position, but I was still irritated by controller aiming. Fast forward 19 years and replaying it in the HD version on PC and what a difference aiming with a mouse! The remake will be going on my Wishlist as this year I played through RES 2 Remake for the second time. And talking of remakes... MGS Snake Eater oh yeah. There is something about replaying a game you played 15-20 years and loved but with everything re-vamped and made to look, sound and feel like a new game. Keep the remakes coming, because old is gold and nostalgia plays a massive part in it.
Wow, you spared absolutely no detail with this comparison! A great game, a great remake, and a great comparison video. Keep up the good work man, you're consistently one of my favorite channels to watch.
Both the original, and remake, I believe did escort missions justice. Even in the basic RE4 Ashley does her best to stay behind you, and even ducks if you aim a weapon towards her direction. Most games that have escorts. The rescued hostage usually has a bad habit of the following, NOT keeping while running, blocks doors, and worst of all get get right in your face and get in the way when you need to attack or fire weapon. RE4 Never really had that problem. While I do agree the remake improved it. Remember, in the old, you can make Ashley hide in a dumpster. Until the fight is over! Lol
Can people please be honest about this "remake"? It was a 75% graphics upgrade, with a few additions/removals/move-arounds to the map. Sure, I had fun playing this game again. But that's exactly what it felt like, like I was re-playing the same game as before with some minor improvements. Everyone is treating this like it's one of the best games ever made. So I'm assuming there's a good chance many of those people have either never played the entire original game or haven't played it at all.
@@HenryMyth Who says that they are? I'm talking about when OG fans get all pissy over new fans having fun with the remake. As if they must be lying to themselves for talking about how much they enjoyed it.
RE4 was a technical marvel when it was released. It still holds up graphically, especially the character models and cutscenes. Even the original gamecube version still looks good and has in my opinion the best atmosphere and blood effects out of all the versions even with the non-enhanced visuals. I also think RE4 still has the best character designs in the series (Leon and Ada in particular).
If you havent yet. I highly recommend the VR version on oculous. Its hands down the best version of the games. Its incredible the amount of effort they put into it.
Love the remake. I think the only thing I can quibble with is the visual palette for the village levels. There was something about the original village's aesthetics that was more haunting. All the trees in the forest were entirely withering and leafless, the ground was blanketed in dead leaves, and you had drab lightbrown colors everywhere. There was a stronger and more oppressive sense of decay.
Going through those woods at the beginning was my favorite part of the game I always wished that it wasn't so short and that it would take longer to get through.
Well it's a remake not a remaster why would they do this just because you want your nostalgia back the remake graphics is darker to make it look scary, the OG graphics looks like a filter everything is brown or yellow it looks terrible
@@Haryad-11 lol. It is not a demand for them to change it back, calm down bro. I'm expressing a gentle personal preference. I also wrote quibble for a reason, the dark forest vibe is cool too. Yes, they don't have to keep it 1:1 in a remake but you do know this argument works both ways? Yes, duh OG 2005 graphics doesn't hold up anymore. Give me a 100-man studio to recreate the old vibe and then we'll beef about which vibe works better in the remake.
I guess it would have been nice if Ashley could, I don't know, throw a brick like Ellie in TLOU or something to get you out of a dire situation, but honestly she's usually the target. So I really see no issue in how she gets captured a lot, that's the whole point after all
She throws lamps at certain enemies at one point. There's a few notable interactions here and there but honestly, compared to the original IMO she's not out that often to complain about. Also Ellie is a kid that grew up in an apocalyptic world while Ashley is just a typical Civilian and the president's daughter (so probably pampered/spoon-fed with no combat experience).

É só deixar a ashley em um armário aguardando
I cannot be the only one that feels the original's atmosphere remains superior, even to this day. Don't get me wrong, the Remake did an outstanding job with every setting, everything looks like a picture and all, but I loved how in the original everything looks and feels... dead. I don't know if this was intentional, but there's something about those sepia-like colors that make me feel like it's more coherent with the setting, at least in the Village. It brings you down, and makes you feel hopeless, or at edge. I honestly think that while the Remake is excellent, and this may sound weird, but it doesn't do anything for me!
Couldn't agree more re the sepia tones working better. Maybe a mod will come out on pc...

I've seen so many that are saying oh the remake is 1000 times better or that the original is better cause of x y and z. The best part is that if you like the original better you can still play it instead. Which to me is the best part about a remake

Awesome! I was waiting for that one! Always the best channel for comparisons. ♥
I can't stress enough how much I was looking forward to this video!

For me remake Ashley actually felt more annoying as the original, I honestly never had much trouble with her in the OG, but in the remake she tends to walk right into groups of Ganados when using the spread out mechanic. Even getting in front of you making it possible to hit her.

There is literally a button to keep her away from combat.

She also in a couple Cutscenes she helps Leon out, hell she shoots two of saddler's little goons as she is resisting his control, she also yells Leon lot less than original and even struggles to escape from getting picked up, yeah you need to still save her but the girl does indeed deserve some credit lol and she would make a fine Agent with the right training lol
in fact i like to imagine that after Remake Leon taught her some offensive and defensive stuff in case some criminals or regular terrorists decide to kidnap her, yeah just imagine a terrorist or criminal running into Ashley with a gun aimed at their face lol

Haunting Ground needs a remake, especially for those who missed out on it originally.
Finally! I've been checking your channel for the last few for this video

With the remake, ill get a lot of hate comments but he looks so emotional distant and gloomy, and in some cutscenes i would of thought he was a villain at some points because of how serious they tried to make him with his face.

Especially the village after you first meet ashley, the darkness and suspense of that area used to scare the crap out of me.
And then the gondola ride before the big cheese boss fight.

what an absolute treat that is. metroid prime is amazing and the remaster is incredible.
Phenomenal in depth comparison as ever. Appreciate this one more than any you've done i think since I've been so invested in RE4r since launch
It's funny how you can switch weapons real time now but I find myself still going into my inventory to switch.
I was in the camp that "this doesn't need a remake" then i played the demo lol. It looks and feels fantastic. Buying it on sale in a couple days. RE4 was the first game to deviate away from the traditional formula i love, but it's still an awesome RE game. 5 and 6 not so much.
With how well the remakes of resident evil have been handled so far I can’t wait to see what they do when they remake resident evil 5 and 6
i think re5 mught just need a remaster. but 6 needs to do a lot of work.
Awesome video, in the sound section, I would have liked to see you talk about the Music of each game and the sounds of the weapons with a side by side comparison. still good though!
And honest comparison, not like Crowcat gaslight
What I like about the og is that the first villager that you encounter wasnt actually a ganado, and was kinda just warning you, yes he tries to hit you with an axe but my proofs are, 1 he dies easier 2 he doesn’t have red eyes and 3 the way he is just living and using the the fire is not the same zombi-ish way that they do in the village
But just look in his house. Too many skulls. It proves he kill many people. Even if Leon leaves the house, I think he will follow Leon to kill him.
I love re 4 remake so much I even have two copy of it one for ps5 and the other for Xbox series x
17:50 Ashley came in clutch with those blue flame lanterns that she dropped on the Suit of Armor Plagas
I remember playing this on the PS2 and after playing the remake it's phenomenal. The nostalgia still brings fear even in my 20's.
The camera focusing on where Leon is facing is more logical, more realistic, and those overall add to the immersion. It makes the threat real, because if you glance behind to look over your shoulder, you are exposing your back again.

It’s in the new DLC, along with a lot of the other areas that were cut.

One design change I do not like is that the game is set at night... one of the best parts of the original version was that it was set in a kind of overcast daytime light that was eerily realistic and scary. I'm tired of playing horror games in the dark, it's such a trope.
It only takes place at night after the Del Lago fight, no different than the original.

Ashley mechanics are way worse in the remake, she was so much easier to control in the original and got cought way less
Watching og fans and remake fans fighting in the comments is hilarious

I love old granado sounds
Love the remake. I think the only thing I can quibble with is the visual palette for the village levels. There was something about the original village's aesthetics that was more haunting. All the trees in the forest were entirely withering and leafless, the ground was blanketed in dead leaves, and you had drab lightbrown colors everywhere. There was a stronger and more oppressive sense of decay.
Going through those woods at the beginning was my favorite part of the game
I always wished that it wasn't so short and that it would take longer to get through.
That’s called nostalgia
Well it's a remake not a remaster why would they do this just because you want your nostalgia back the remake graphics is darker to make it look scary, the OG graphics looks like a filter everything is brown or yellow it looks terrible
@@Haryad-11 lol. It is not a demand for them to change it back, calm down bro. I'm expressing a gentle personal preference. I also wrote quibble for a reason, the dark forest vibe is cool too.

@Nayrohtoh Oh she does? I didn't even know. I agree with you, I'm not saying she should be like Ellie

When I first met Luis in the remake I thought “That’s a SICK jacket” and then I saw a clip of OG Luis and thought “wow they really dripped this dude up”
I love these direct comparisons.
Absolutely agree and when you download the hd project it makes it feel how you thought it looked when you were younger like the ps2 and GameCube days
