I hate how I love this bittersweet ending. The main character finally starts to warm up to the little snail girl and then she finds a way to get home. She doesn’t want to let her go, but she knows she’s better off at her own home.
Yknow I don't think that's how I saw the ending play out... the snail girl coming into this girl's mundane everyday life brought some light and spark to change things up and not settle to let her life be controlled by the Japanese work-till-death mindset that has been a problem in real life since the 80's. Snail girl acted as way to help show protag that you don't need to work yourself every single day and call that living, helping her find joy in the little things of life and work. Maybe in the protag's future, she can come out of her (snail) shell to settle down with a man she'll live and have a kid... reliving those brief moments with an alien snail girl that broke her cycle and essentially saved her life.
