I love the detail where the scratch on the dog's nose is healed but the scratches from the abuse werent. Such an amazing animation, I come back to watch it every 2 years and I notice new things each time.

I love how at the start the cat was scared of the big human, then after the cat realized not all big things are bad and scary (the dog) it went up to the human. It shows character development really well!
The body language and movements of both the animals are so expressive while also being accurate to the body language of real cats and dogs. Incredible work

I've seen this on a tweet video, a guy found a black kitten and wanted to tke it to a shelter, but ended up not foing it because he said people don't adopt black cats... my black cat is 15 years old and never once had i thought about his fur colour being something bad...
The part where the cat scratches the dog and the cat notices that the dog was trying to help him hit me in the core of my heart it reminded me of my dog lo I started crying as soon as that happened r.i.p lo my dog ❤😭♥️😭♥️😭♥️

I didn't notice at first. Most animals flinch when a person they don't know approaches them because they don't know what is about to happen when they are touched.

I got to see this for the first time in theaters, as it played in front of "Turning Red". And oh wow... this made my eyes water. When the cat helped the dog escape, I was so happy. And so happy that they ended up with loving owners. It did make me think of my own black cat.
A great short, and seeing it on the big screen was a huge bonus.
This hits me deep inside my heart because I rescued my pitbull from an agresive environment and now he's the most sweet dog in this world even when he pass through that. Animals are truly pure ✨
That moment when the dog's face softens up after recieving the gentle touch of a human for the first time...I just 😭

Out of everything, that part is what got me to tear up.
My dog is a stray and she used to do the same thing. She would cower and squint her eyes, like preparing for a strike. So yeah, that scene tore me apart. Can't imagine what my baby went through.

I didn't cry, but I felt sad and pity for the dog and the cat. The cat had no home, and feared a lot of things. The dog was abused and neglected, which was worse. I'm happy they got an ending that was nice, but I didn't cry.
The end? More like thirty seconds in!
I remembeted when we adopted a stray dog and was scared of him at first. The determining factor was when the cat had put her tail on his nose. The dog didn't react at all which means he has been a good dog. Now, he's happy. The cat didn't realize that behavior changed the dog's life.
The animation team did so good animating the mannerisms of the cat having random zoomies, lol. 😂 I was so glad that the dog and cat found a loving forever home. ❤️❤️❤️ Such a beautiful animation.
If this doesn't unite dog lovers with cat lovers, I don't know what will.

One small detail I noticed at the end is the pit Bull is wearing an orange bandana which means he doesn’t like to be around other dogs. This is probably due to his trauma in the dog fights. It’s cool that they had that small detail near the end.

Yes. It's so refreshing to come across a representation of a cat which is actually cat-like.. Rather than a Garfield-style human-in-a-cat-suit.
The pits body language and antics are too, blew my mind how accurately they could portray each of them. My boy does the same things. I'm a tough dude most of the time, but this one had me in tears.

So is the cat when it approaches the dog after the POS abuser kicks him out in the rain. The cat approaches carefully and gives a small lick to let the dog know it means no harm. My cat does this when I'm crying. She'll sneak up next to me and lick my arm. One time, I was crying in the dark, and she licked the tears off my cheek. Also, the dog's reaction when the cat lays down next to it, its tail thumps, responding to gentle touch, and when the dog hesitates to let the new human pet it...My heart just melts seeing him happy! This whole thing was made very well by someone who really knows both cats and dogs and *_loves them._* I love animals, too, this warms my heart. I come back to this video when I need a quick pick-me-up!

I appreciate that it was a black cat, as black cats have a harder time getting adopted due to the superstition surrounding them. It was a perfect outcast pair.

The way this can show such emotion without words is beautiful. Animators deserve more credit. This shows perfectly the problem of animal abustion. This short movie is an amazing piece of work. This is why i want to be an animator when im older.

5 years later and i still love this animation. Animal abuse is no joke, all stray animals (including strays) deserve good people.
And there is a special place in heaven for people who care for ones who have nothing.

2:19 the kitten playing with the bottle cap is super realistic, especially when the cat shakes his butt and has bigger pupils. these animators clearly own cats.
yeah but it's unrealistic for a cat to instantly raise its voice,, like usually it's gradual until they strike and then it's at its highest.
It’s probably like old Disney movies. They bring in a model and have them just do certain activities to see how they would naturally react! It’s very effective. Very good in this one

The part that broke me was when the woman's hand reached out to the Pitbull and it seemed like the poor pup shied away for a second, scared, afraid to trust. The human contact he was used to before was abuse. Instant sobs.

Nope. The woman that adopted them saw that he was abused. Her and her husband did some research and found where they had the dog fights, called the police and had a massive raid and everyone there was arrested and all the dogs went to loving foster homes where all the families fell in love with them and adopted them.

I am not ashamed to say I'm crying... I love that the cat was also a black cat (who are the last to be adopted and first to be put down in shelters). It's like two misunderstood misfits sticking together.

I watched this animation like when I was a kid, I’m 17 now and it still tells a lot to this day.
It frustrates me to no end that dogs are put in horrible situations like fighting to the death for the enjoyment of other bad people. It's criminal and should be outlawed everywhere. It's just so heartbreaking. this was a masterfully done short film.
It frustrates even more when people ridicule dogs for their viciousness. They don't care about how lovable and sweet the dog was before or how it was abuse relentlessly for it to become so aggressive. They just see a "violent monster" that they believe should be put down. These Sparkshorts always carry such meaningful messages.
I agree with that much, but nobody feels sympathy for the birds in cockfighting or the alligators that die very excruciating deaths to trappers. There are humane ways to treat pest gators and roosters. Just because God put animals in our dominion doesn't mean we can find enjoyment in their suffering. The word for that is "sadistic."
In the United States it is illegal. But it still happen just like drunk driving, murder, etc. It's illegal but it still happens.

7:27 this part made me cry when after all the dog has been through, the humans reaches out to pet him, and how he hesitates just because of how the other humans treated him, that was just sad. and when he let the human pet him, and trusted her, that was the best part in my opinion.

the accuracy on a cat’s behavior, the moves of the tail, how they randomly drop themselves on the floor, the moves when he’s gonna go after the cap, the full black eyes also when playing or hunting, that weird crab walk when they are trying to be threatening, how sponged they get when they got scared, when they rub against things, it’s very very

When the lady put her hand on the dog for the first time, I actually started tearing up. That emotional healing moment of knowing that everything is fine now, especially after getting abused by the other owner, is beautiful. Spectacular work!

I know! The way it's eyes got wider when ever it got scared or frisky (most people think the eyes go in spots when this happens) how it curls itself up and tries to make itself look bigger. It looked just like a real cat!!!

I have a thought though. The new family would notice the scars after a checkup and the vet would call in authority to go locate that pitbull ring. And that stops the abuse and any other dog ending up that kind of life. That's what I'd like to think.
