I knew it wasn’t a C&O 2700 engine when the fireman snapped the journal box lid shut on the lead axle of the trailing truck under the firebox. The 2700’s all had Timkin roller bearing not brass plain bearings. 2700’s only had plain brasses under their tenders. Nice engine and great video! Thanks for sharing!

Of course it’s not a real C&O 2700 engine. This is actually Nickel Plate Road (NKP) #765 disguised as C&O #2765, which the real 2700 class locomotive was scrapped a long time ago.
Speaking of which, there was another 2-8-4 Berkshire (C&O’s “Kanawha” class) locomotive, which was numbered 2716 and it operated at around the time this video was taken, at the same time the 765 was still operating. It would’ve made more sense to have 2716 running while renumbered as sister engine 2765, but with 765 running it’s not exactly the same compared to having a real Kanawha running imo.

The conductor at the beginning of the video was Ned Brown. He volunteered at the Kentucky Railroad Museum in the late 90's. He always had fun stories!

Cool to see Brighton in this video, I was born 8 years after and moved to Brighton much later.
Much of my early railfanning memories are in that parking lot (12:28)

The Original 2765 was scrapped, unfortunately it wasn't saved. And if it was preserved. Then it will be on display at a park in Fort Wayne Indiana.

The original 2765 was built at American Locomotive company. Same place where Union Pacific 4-8-4 Northern 844 , Union Pacific Challenger 3985 and Milwaukee Road 261 were built

Awesome video! I've always loved how 765's whistle sounded in the 80s and 90s. Thanks for uploading this!

@@vsrailroad6226 According to FWRHS, it's the same whistle she wears today (from NKP 700). Apparently, steam whistles are a lot like musical instruments and many adjustments can be made to change the tone of the whistle. Wear and tear also effects the sound of the whistle. Her whistle was just retuned last year. Her whistle's last major retuning prior to last year was in 2012. I too hope that someday her whistle will be retuned to it's 80s-90s tone.

All Lima 5 chime whistle moments:
    6:15
    20:56
    21:23
(Trust me, it’s weird seeing a Kanawha, even a pretend one, wear one of those.)

What's the whistle at 6:12? I know 765 wore her regular Nathan chime whistle and kanawha hooter as the 2765, but I've never heard that one whistle.

Nickel Plate Studios sounds like a D&RGW 5 chime. But idk

I would definitely say it's a five chime, probably from the CB&Q or NP. The same whistle is heard here. ua-cam.com/video/OuGLUCSWOyg/v-deo.html

      Star Brass 5 Chime

It’s a 5 Chime. I know it’s not this engine that was based on the Polar Express but that whistle sounds eerily like Sierra Railway 3’s Lima 5 Chime.

@@maxwellsteam5810 There’s no way that the whistle is a Star Brass 5 chime. It would sound way too high pitched compared to the 5 chime whistle heard in this video.
