Paul was telling us to pray for each other, but he was never talking about the dead praying and interceding for us. The Bible is very clear about not talking to those who have passed, or praying for those who have passed.
I love how you said there are so many misconceptions about what Catholics teach.. and through my own research - I found this also to be so incredibly true! I’m still a Protestant, and since there are no scriptures that tell me to ask for Saints to pray for me.. I play it safe, and I don’t because I fear the Lord too much. I see no examples of Jesus doing it either, and He is who I strive to be like. But I did have a pretty interesting experience before I was saved. My dad had passed several years ago and I remember asking him to please just help me figure out the truth. I then had a dream I was standing in an open space with him, and he was just hugging me. I’ve been in the empty same space where we spoke telepathically two other times with passed loved ones. It was maybe a month later after the dream of my dad that the Lord had saved me. I still can’t make sense of it to this day. “You will know them by their fruits” - I have no doubt that you have true fruits, Kelsey.. even though we disagree on some things, we both agree that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and we are saved by grace through faith alone. I know I will see you one day in heaven! ♥️

The Bible is the Word of God, sharper than any two edged sword. and is trustworthy and reliable. We don't need any other book telling us what to believe or how we should live. The only book we need is the Bible
Saying all the Bible isn't always clear doesn't mean that it isn't sometimes clear. Yes, the Holy Spirit guides us personally as we read the Bible, but He also guides the Church to help clear up misunderstandings and problems of faith and morals that are not explicitly mentioned in the Bible. Without an infallible interpreter, people that are ALL reading Scripture in earnest come to different beliefs...all believing the Holy Spirit guided them to those particular beliefs. This is why we see so many different denominations disagreeing on important questions like: "Can you lose your salvation?" Or "Is Baptism simply a symbol?" They are all made up of people who have read the Bible and all have come to different conclusions on the meaning. In the Catholic Church, however, we don't have to quarrel about these major issues and break off into separate groups. We simply submit ourselves to the authorities that God has placed in our lives to help us determine what is the correct interpretation. So yes, the Holy Spirit guides us. Sometimes that is in our personal reading times and sometimes, on issues that are particularly confusing to people/are very important, the Holy Spirit guides us via the Church.
Kelsey, thank you for making this video. We really need more female apologists in the Church. As a convert to Catholicism from 20 years of Protestantism, I think these videos are so important. I was actually converted via an apologist friend and am forever grateful. Prayer is a form of worship. We are not to pray to anyone except God. The Bible is very clear about not talking to the dead. Those people that you pray to are dead. They are not alive except in Heaven, and they do not intercede for us, and why would they when we ourselves can come to our Creator; the living God ourselves. We don't need anyone to intercede for us if we can come to God ourselves. The Holy Spirit interceded for us when we don't know what to pray, but that's it.
Prayer is not worship. Worship requires a sacrifice which is what occurs when we go to mass. Prayer alone is not worship but many mistakenly believe it to be so.
@@kathiajurado7086 No, worship encompasses all that we do; whatever we do for God is worship. Submission to God is worship. Singing praises to God is worship. Working as if unto God is worship. Worship isn't just about sacrifice. It is how we live our lives, and yes, prayer is also worship.

Mass sacrifices Christ over and over again. Christ on the cross was the FINAL sacrifice. Jesus said "It is finished". I will certainly continue to pray for my Catholic friends and that they will truly understand the gospel. It is ALL grace , not works. In-depth study of Galatians would be helpful for you. It certainly opened the eyes of Martin Luther.

I would absolutely give someone a Bible, and trust that the Holy Spirit will give them understanding. Also, I would study the Bible with them and walk with them in this faith; it's called making disciples.

I was in the Orthodox Church of America for over ten years. We had icons of Mother Mary, Jesus and the saints as well as we prayed to them. Then one day I was (((STRONGLY))) convicted by the Holy Spirit that praying to the dead was not pleasing to God; and that all the saints point to Christ as the One we should pray to. So I left the church and was obedient to God's nudging. It changed my life and gave me so much peace and I can never nor will I ever go back to the Orthodox Church. God showed me that it has to be this way, as He has to keep the door closed to all spiritism, no matter where it comes from. I say all of this in love and this has been my experience.
I'm sorry you had that experience, and those around you were praying to icons. That is not the Church's teachings though (just to clarify). If someone is worshiping and praying to a statue or picture, then that is idolatry.

I doubt the commenter has any idea about the distinction between latria and dulia - worship or veneration. Nowhere in the orthodox church does it tell you to worship (give latria) to an icon, and this person is clearly thinking like any other protestant that praying to a saint is worship.
You underestimate me. I am very familiar with the difference. I was deeply convicted by God that both veneration as well as praying to saints as to intercede for me or others was not pleasing to God. When the Holy Spirit speaks clearly to your heart and the Holy Spirits message is totally backed by scripture, you must obey.

Yes, we are to teach and disciple one another, but we teach from no other book but the Bible. Everything we teach is from the Bible. But also, don't underestimate the power of the Holy Spirit; he alone CAN bring understanding of the Bible to someone
I have had theological conversations with folks who have read the Bible (just as I have) and come away with VERY different interpretations of what is being said! Mostly, because they take what is written out of historical context or cultural context & are basing their interpretation on current trends. THAT is why it is so important to cross reference with theologians/church fathers/etc...I just watched a Protestant 'pastor' online, who is not Amish, but dresses like one (?) expound on how God did not make thorns only Satan did?!? Where in scripture is that? And he is preaching to thousands online. I have sat thru Protestant sermons where the pastor said "he" saved over 300 people. He has NEVER saved anyone, only Christ has. And he is preaching to a congregation every week. There are some protestant churches that I know of that have a pastor that has never attended seminary or any other theological schooling & some of the things I have heard 'interpreted' are WAY off! So if a church 'father' like Aquinas writes down his interpretation would that not fit your bill of teaching & discipling each other? Especially if it was based off the ancient Scriptures? I mean you no disrespect, you are free to believe what you wish & so am I. And if I don't 'get to heaven' I guess there will be more room for you. lol. But why go on a Catholic channel & write like 20 comments???? You are not going to convert anyone like that. If you don't agree with Catholics, I am sorry, but that is ok. Just go find a Protestant channel - there is no need to blow up the comment section with arguments that are NOT going to sway Catholics. I have attended many different denominations for services or functions. I even attended a Baptist church for 2 years. I heard way too much incorrect interpretation & never would commit to becoming a member. It actually cemented my commitment to return to my Catholic faith. I don't agree with everything in the Catholic church, but when I see Protestant denominations ordaining women, marrying gays, promoting transgenderism, etc...then I KNOW that many are WAY off on their interpretation. So I won't trust on only my own wisdom - which is often lacking.

All are free to choose which side they serve. But, when I see and hear someone saying something that isn't true, I am not going to stay silent about it. I will speak truth and life. I have been subscribed to this channel for homemaking, not because I saw that she was Catholic. I'm not trying to attack the Catholic faith or any other faith; I am just trying to speak truth. We are not to lean in our own understanding, but in all our ways acknowledge God and He will set our paths straight. The Word of God speaks differently to people in different times, but it never changes. I'm not protestant either. I am a follower of Jesus Christ.

I was born & raised a Roman Catholic and your videos have led me back to God and the church. ❤ As a child I was told that Protestant faith is derived from the word “protest”. My bible contains all of the apocrypha books that were original to the bible. My closest friends are baptists and it saddens me that they try to convince me that my infant baptism meant nothing. It’s frustrating to be told I should be/must be baptized by being immersed in water. (being baptized twice is actually a sin). They are sincere Jesus loving people but sadly lack the critical thinking skills to understand the traditions of the Catholic Church. Their participation of the Eucharist (communion) is a plate of broken up saltine crackers passed around & tiny cups of grape juice. 😳 Perhaps the most disturbing of their beliefs is that “I’m a Catholic, not a Christian”. We have so many interpretations because people like to add to, take away from, and manipulate and twist the Bible to mean something that it doesn't, to fit their own lives and sins.

Mark 6:8 says Jesus instructs them to take "nothing for the journey except a staff." This seems straightforward - a staff for support is allowed. Matthew 10:10 and Luke 9:3, however, both depict Jesus telling the disciples to take "no staff" alongside other instructions on traveling light. This difference creates the apparent contradiction. Here's why it might seem significant: Specificity: The Gospels usually don't get this specific about small details like a walking stick. Directness: All three Gospels mention things like food and sandals, so the emphasis on "no staff" in Matthew and Luke stands out. While it might seem like a clear clash, it's important to remember that the core message across all Gospels is about trusting in God's providence, not relying on material possessions for their journey.
It is not talking about the prayers of the saints who have died. But it is talking about all of us who believe in Jesus Christ, who are alive and in prayer
It sounds like you may be conflating sola scriptura (what Protestants believe) and solo scriptura (what we do not teach) for parts of your explanation. The difference between the two is drastic, the second falling into dangerous territory/breeding ground of heresy. Studying the Bible all alone by yourself is not sola scriptura. Sola scriptura is only about the weight we give to the Bible. The authority bestowed upon it.

I grew up in a Baptist church in a small town and never even knew anyone who was Catholic until I was grown. I have some wonderful Catholic friends now. This was wonderful information; thank you. I loved what you said about The Bible and sola scriptura. For a very long time I have stated a similar thing to people, as the Old Testament writings are based off of selected portions of the Hebrew scriptures. The New Testament was not even a taught text when Christianity was made. Therefore, it was the disciples and those like Paul who went around teaching people about Jesus. There have been some things Paul has stated that I don't agree with, just like if I talk to other Christians who I may disagree on. That doesn't mean I don't disagree with God. I find inspiration from you, from other Christians of different denominations, but mainly, I find myself in the most agreement and understanding of the Mennonites/Anabaptists (which is not Protestant but known as the "third way" as they were oppressed and hunted down by both Catholics and Reformers of Luther or Calvin during the Reformation). I have read the Maccabees and find the history great (even Jesus celebrated the Macabee history according to the scriptures when he celebrated the festival of lights). The Council of Nicaea is the one that chose what books they accepted or not. Again, the Bible wasn't even put together until the 3rd century. I loved what you stated about all this. The Bible wasn't even printed and offered to the public until Gutenberg's Bible came about in the 1500s. I think I might have mentioned it before, but my husband's best friend from high school is a Catholic priest, so we had many great discussions with him throughout the 24 years I have known him. We agree with many things and respect him highly and see him as a man of God just as he sees me as a woman of God. He asks us for prayer even. It is really good that we intercede for one another. I do disagree with praying to dead people, as they are separated from the earth now. You yourself said how Jesus is the mediator between heaven and earth, so that is why I pray to God through Jesus. I believe that is the highest authority. I understand, from talking to my priest friend, that because he asks us for prayers, he feels the same goes for asking help from saints that are dead. I just don't see the same correlation. I will say that I have met SOOOO many Protestants who say Catholics are not Christians and I have to give them a history lesson that the Catholic church was the initial church and that it is even in their doctrine with the Apostles Creed to admit such by saying, "I believe in the Holy Catholic Church." I had a friend who stopped being my friend for a few years because I said Catholics were Christians. I had to explain that ANYONE who calls upon the Lord to save them and repents of their sin is a Christian. ANYONE. I agree completely with you about grace and faith. I think they work hand in hand with one another. :) Loved your video. As someone that once had all these same concerns and rebuttals, they are all easily debunked. I simply did not know (as a Protestant) the history of the church. Once you really dive into it, Catholicism is the only answer.
I was born into the Catholic faith, however now I attend other churches .... Baptist, Pentecostal etc. I feel that all churches I attend follow similar teachings. As long as they are preaching from the Bible I feel like I'm in God's home 🏡

The bit you said about sola scriptura involving private judgement is false. Sola scriptura believes that scripture is its own interpretor. This interpretation is available to the readerthrough the power and Grace of God in the Holy Spirit. Every believer is subject to the scriptures and is measured from there. We're not confused on what we believe. We debate about it in groups, or sects, if you will
I totally understand where you are coming from, and I do believe we can come to the same conclusion on the truth of Scriptures on some points, but if we are honest, the majority of people have THEIR interpretation THEN try to find a church that aligns, not the other way around....so private judgement. Baptism, real presence of Jesus in communion, justification, woman pastors, and even gay marriage are VERY important and NOT agreed upon in Protestism. It then would appear there are doctrinal issues, not confusion. I don't believe Jesus started His Church of truth and left IT without the guide of the Holy Spirit. Jesus knew that man would depart from His Church, from His truth (which is Biblically how God's people are), that's why Jesus prayed for us to be ONE, He knew man would break away. If God's plan was Sola Scriptura, He wouldn't have needed to pray for us because we should all be one, as we all have the same wisdom to interpret from the Spirit....

I believe there is good evidence of the Papal office Biblically and proof of continued succession (as listed) in Ireaneus Against Heresis (who also gave us the first 3 Gospels). I very much appreciate you standing up for your faith and can very much see where you are coming from in the points you are making about being subject to Scripture because we are. I do agree with you that it is infallible, and the precious Word of God!
Paul was telling us to pray for each other, but he was never talking about the dead praying and interceding for us. The Bible is very clear about not talking to those who have passed, or praying for those who have passed.
I love how you said there are so many misconceptions about what Catholics teach.. and through my own research - I found this also to be so incredibly true!
I’m still a Protestant, and since there are no scriptures that tell me to ask for Saints to pray for me.. I play it safe, and I don’t because I fear the Lord too much. I see no examples of Jesus doing it either, and He is who I strive to be like.
But I did have a pretty interesting experience before I was saved. My dad had passed several years ago and I remember asking him to please just help me figure out the truth. I then had a dream I was standing in an open space with him, and he was just hugging me. I’ve been in the empty same space where we spoke telepathically two other times with passed loved ones. It was maybe a month later after the dream of my dad that the Lord had saved me. I still can’t make sense of it to this day.
“You will know them by their fruits” - I have no doubt that you have true fruits, Kelsey.. even though we disagree on some things, we both agree that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and we are saved by grace through faith alone. I know I will see you one day in heaven! ♥️

Saying all the Bible isn't always clear doesn't mean that it isn't sometimes clear. Yes, the Holy Spirit guides us personally as we read the Bible, but He also guides the Church to help clear up misunderstandings and problems of faith and morals that are not explicitly mentioned in the Bible. Without an infallible interpreter, people that are ALL reading Scripture in earnest come to different beliefs...all believing the Holy Spirit guided them to those particular beliefs. This is why we see so many different denominations disagreeing on important questions like: "Can you lose your salvation?" Or "Is Baptism simply a symbol?" They are all made up of people who have read the Bible and all have come to different conclusions on the meaning. In the Catholic Church, however, we don't have to quarrel about these major issues and break off into separate groups. We simply submit ourselves to the authorities that God has placed in our lives to help us determine what is the correct interpretation. So yes, the Holy Spirit guides us. Sometimes that is in our personal reading times and sometimes, on issues that are particularly confusing to people/are very important, the Holy Spirit guides us via the Church.
Kelsey, thank you for making this video. We really need more female apologists in the Church. As a convert to Catholicism from 20 years of Protestantism, I think these videos are so important. I was actually converted via an apologist friend and am forever grateful. Prayer is a form of worship. We are not to pray to anyone except God. The Bible is very clear about not talking to the dead. Those people that you pray to are dead. They are not alive except in Heaven, and they do not intercede for us, and why would they when we ourselves can come to our Creator; the living God ourselves. We don't need anyone to intercede for us if we can come to God ourselves. The Holy Spirit interceded for us when we don't know what to pray, but that's it.
Prayer is not worship. Worship requires a sacrifice which is what occurs when we go to mass. Prayer alone is not worship but many mistakenly believe it to be so.
@@kathiajurado7086 No, worship encompasses all that we do; whatever we do for God is worship. Submission to God is worship. Singing praises to God is worship. Working as if unto God is worship. Worship isn't just about sacrifice. It is how we live our lives, and yes, prayer is also worship.

Mass sacrifices Christ over and over again. Christ on the cross was the FINAL sacrifice. Jesus said "It is finished". I will certainly continue to pray for my Catholic friends and that they will truly understand the gospel. It is ALL grace , not works. In-depth study of Galatians would be helpful for you. It certainly opened the eyes of Martin Luther.

I was in the Orthodox Church of America for over ten years. We had icons of Mother Mary, Jesus and the saints as well as we prayed to them. Then one day I was (((STRONGLY))) convicted by the Holy Spirit that praying to the dead was not pleasing to God; and that all the saints point to Christ as the One we should pray to. So I left the church and was obedient to God's nudging. It changed my life and gave
me so much peace and I can never nor will I ever go back to the Orthodox Church. God showed me that it has to be this way, as He has to keep the door closed to all spiritism, no matter where it comes from. I say all of this in love and this has been my experience.
I'm sorry you had that experience, and those around you were praying to icons. That is not the Church's teachings though (just to clarify). If someone is worshiping and praying to a statue or picture, then that is idolatry.

I doubt the commenter has any idea about the distinction between latria and dulia - worship or veneration. Nowhere in the orthodox church does it tell you to worship (give latria) to an icon, and this person is clearly thinking like any other protestant that praying to a saint is worship.
You underestimate me. I am very familiar with the difference. I was deeply convicted by God that both veneration as well as praying to saints as to intercede for me or others was not pleasing to God. When the Holy Spirit speaks clearly to your heart and the Holy Spirits message is totally backed by scripture, you must obey.

I have had theological conversations with folks who have read the Bible (just as I have) and come away with VERY different interpretations of what is being said! Mostly, because they take what is written out of historical context or cultural context & are basing their interpretation on current trends. THAT is why it is so important to cross reference with theologians/church fathers/etc...I just watched a Protestant 'pastor' online, who is not Amish, but dresses like one (?) expound on how God did not make thorns only Satan did?!? Where in scripture is that? And he is preaching to thousands online. I have sat thru Protestant sermons where the pastor said "he" saved over 300 people. He has NEVER saved anyone, only Christ has. And he is preaching to a congregation every week. There are some protestant churches that I know of that have a pastor that has never attended seminary or any other theological schooling & some of the things I have heard 'interpreted' are WAY off!
So if a church 'father' like Aquinas writes down his interpretation would that not fit your bill of teaching & discipling each other? Especially if it was based off the ancient Scriptures? I mean you no disrespect, you are free to believe what you wish & so am I. And if I don't 'get to heaven' I guess there will be more room for you. lol. But why go on a Catholic channel & write like 20 comments???? You are not going to convert anyone like that. If you don't agree with Catholics, I am sorry, but that is ok. My closest friends are baptists and it saddens me that they try to convince me that my infant baptism meant nothing. It’s frustrating to be told I should be/must be baptized by being immersed in water. (being baptized twice is actually a sin). They are sincere Jesus loving people but sadly lack the critical thinking skills to understand the traditions of the Catholic Church. Their participation of the Eucharist (communion) is a plate of broken up saltine crackers passed around & tiny cups of grape juice. 😳

We have so many interpretations because people like to add to, take away from, and manipulate and twist the Bible to mean something that it doesn't, to fit their own lives and sins.

Matthew 10:10 and Luke 9:3, however, both depict Jesus telling the disciples to take "no staff" alongside other instructions on traveling light.

It sounds like you may be conflating sola scriptura (what Protestants believe) and solo scriptura (what we do not teach) for parts of your explanation. The difference between the two is drastic, the second falling into dangerous territory/breeding ground of heresy. Studying the Bible all alone by yourself is not sola scriptura. Sola scriptura is only about the weight we give to the Bible. The authority bestowed upon it.

I grew up in a Baptist church in a small town and never even knew anyone who was Catholic until I was grown. I have some wonderful Catholic friends now. This was wonderful information; thank you. I have often wondered about many of these things but just haven't asked. I truly enjoy your channel and have learned so much. Bless you and your beautiful family.
I loved what you said about The Bible and sola scriptura. For a very long time I have stated a similar thing to people, as the Old Testament writings are based off of selected portions of the Hebrew scriptures. The New Testament was not even a taught text when Christianity was made. Therefore, it was the disciples and those like Paul who went around teaching people about Jesus. There have been some things Paul has stated that I don't agree with, just like if I talk to other Christians who I may disagree on. That doesn't mean I don't disagree with God. I find inspiration from you, from other Christians of different denominations, but mainly, I find myself in the most agreement and understanding of the Mennonites/Anabaptists (which is not Protestant but known as the "third way" as they were oppressed and hunted down by both Catholics and Reformers of Luther or Calvin during the Reformation). I have read the Maccabees and find the history great (even Jesus celebrated the Macabee history according to the scriptures when he celebrated the festival of lights). The Council of Nicaea is the one that chose what books they accepted or not. Again, the Bible wasn't even put together until the 3rd century. I loved what you stated about all this. The Bible wasn't even printed and offered to the public until Gutenberg's Bible came about in the 1500s.
I think I might have mentioned it before, but my husband's best friend from high school is a Catholic priest, so we had many great discussions with him throughout the 24 years I have known him. We agree with many things and respect him highly and see him as a man of God just as he sees me as a woman of God. He asks us for prayer even. It is really good that we intercede for one another. I do disagree with praying to dead people, as they are separated from the earth now. You yourself said how Jesus is the mediator between heaven and earth, so that is why I pray to God through Jesus. I believe that is the highest authority. I understand, from talking to my priest friend, that because he asks us for prayers, he feels the same goes for asking help from saints that are dead. I just don't see the same correlation.
I will say that I have met SOOOO many Protestants who say Catholics are not Christians and I have to give them a history lesson that the Catholic church was the initial church and that it is even in their doctrine with the Apostles Creed to admit such by saying, "I believe in the Holy Catholic Church." I had a friend who stopped being my friend for a few years because I said Catholics were Christians. I had to explain that ANYONE who calls upon the Lord to save them and repents of their sin is a Christian. ANYONE.
I agree completely with you about grace and faith. I think they work hand in hand with one another. :)

As someone that once had all these same concerns and rebuttals, they are all easily debunked. I simply did not know (as a Protestant) the history of the church. Once you really dive into it, Catholicism is the only answer.

I was born into the Catholic faith, however now I attend other churches .... Baptist, Pentecostal etc. I feel that all churches I attend follow similar teachings. As long as they are preaching from the Bible I feel like I'm in God's home 🏡

The bit you said about sola scriptura involving private judgement is false. Sola scriptura believes that scripture is its own interpretor. This interpretation is available to the readerthrough the power and Grace of God in the Holy Spirit. Every believer is subject to the scriptures and is measured from there. We're not confused on what we believe. We debate about it in groups, or sects, if you will
I totally understand where you are coming from, and I do believe we can come to the same conclusion on the truth of Scriptures on some points, but if we are honest, the majority of people have THEIR interpretation THEN try to find a church that aligns, not the other way around....so private judgement. Baptism, real presence of Jesus in communion, justification, woman pastors, and even gay marriage are VERY important and NOT agreed upon in Protestism. It then would appear there are doctrinal issues, not confusion. I don't believe Jesus started His Church of truth and left IT without the guide of the Holy Spirit. Jesus knew that man would depart from His Church, from His truth (which is Biblically how God's people are), that's why Jesus prayed for us to be ONE, He knew man would break away. If God's plan was Sola Scriptura, He wouldn't have needed to pray for us because we should all be one, as we all have the same wisdom to interpret from the Spirit....
Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions [“schismata” in the Greek, i.e. schisms] among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment (1 Cor 1:10) We know this is true, and if Sola Scriptura is true, then how do I know personally which Church holds truth and which are the churches in schism? This is why I'm Catholic. I believe there is good evidence of the Papal office Biblically and proof of continued succession (as listed) in Ireaneus Against Heresis (who also gave us the first 3 Gospels). Sorry if my text tone sounds mean, it is not. I very much appreciate you standing up for your faith and can very much see where you are coming from in the points you are making about being subject to Scripture because we are. I do agree with you that it is infallible, and the precious Word of God!
