  • My son, Rob, bought a 1986 Coleman pop-up camper (with title) for next to nothing a few weeks back. Its definitely seen better days, so he decided to strip it down to build his very own teardrop on. I'm excited to see him finally build his own. I have done it this way 3 times now, lets see how his differs from mine. Follow his build as it happens.
    BUILD ON!

Nice to see this teardown. I'm looking at using a popup for my trailer build.

Thank you. I have the skills to rebuild my very basic camping trailer, but the teardown intimidates me.

It's not so bad, just think it through and jump in. Build on! Thanks for watching!

How did you dispose of the trailer full of trash?

@@rossbaiza9369 I recycled all the metal and took the rest to the landfill. (dump) Thanks for watching!

Just curious, how long did it take to strip it down like that from start to finish?

About 4 hours with 2 people. Thanks for watching

Did you build a teardrop with this trailer? I have the same model pop up, that ended up with a bad leak. I've kicked around the idea of converting it.

Yes I did. It's a great trailer to use for a build. I didn't record it but I have another one behind the garage and will be recording that one when my health gets a bit better. Thanks for watching and build on!

@@DIYTearDropJay That is great to hear. Did you have to modify or strengthen the trailer at all? I'm good with wood, but not with metal.

@@Randavian no I didn't. I did cut everything off outside the main frame rails because I wanted the tire outside of the walls. I don't like to build over the tires. I did that with a Sawzall and a metal blade. It was very easy. I wish I could share pictures on UA-cam, I have a bunch of them for that build. If you have a Facebook, find me there, I will share the pictures with you.

Pity you wasted that ply. You could have used it for pattern-making, if nothing else.

To be honest, never thought to do that. Thanks for the suggestion.
