Wow 30 years ago today. I am a lifelong Nebraska fan born and raised in Omaha. It was my 7th birthday on August 28 1994. I'm watching this today on my 37th birthday. Go Big Red!
I was there my daughter's cheer squad from Lincoln Northeast High School participated in the halftime show with another squad from Nebraska and two from WV. Had seats in the endzone.
@@patrickgilmore9517 According to Ron Brown, the Broncos had shown an interest in Brooke, and almost certainly would have drafted him. Such a sad story, there.
This is an interesting team. 1994 Nebraska brought Tom's first title, but I don't know how good the team was at the start of the year. And when they started to peak defensively in October, they were playing backup QBs (admittedly Berringer had some great moments). I actually think that the 93 and 94 Huskers were still getting used to what it took to be great), but managed to win a title in the process anyway. I think Nebraska was probably a better team in 82, 83, 84, and 87, but this team found a way to close the deal for Tom first
@@roselengyel2258 maybe better, but not per analytics. But you're right, we don't know how good they could have been because of the injury to Tommie. Nebraska was far better I think 95-97
Remember this game like yesterday Hoboken high school we had great seats and won the state championship that year on the same field by the way I'm a Frazier also 👍
The fireworks takes place at the 1:49:24 place in this video... Tommie Frazier shows the "Michael Vick" out of his package. 43 yard run versus WVU in the Kickoff Classic in August 1994. Great run by Frazier----one of the game's best ever.
absolutely... that was a special era in college ball... seriously.. Frazier was good... I also really enjoyed watching Jemelle Hilieway and Turner Gill matchups too...
After just watching N.U. lose another close game last night (one of many over the last few years), I was reminded of what the great Husker teams of the past had that the teams of the last 20+ years have been missing: toughness, conditioning, speed, swagger, and coaching stability. Admittedly, a Head Coach like Tom Osborne only comes around once every few generations (how many future HOF Head Coaches are coaching CFB teams today?), but he had players who were not necessarily just better than all the players on the other teams...they just excelled at executing his and N.U.'s system. Will N.U. ever come "back" to being an elite CFB power? I don't think so, but then I'm a pessimist. They will eventually get back to winning 8-10 games a season (maybe), but the glory years of the 90s (where they competed for and won Championships) were probably a one-time deal.
If Tom Osbourne had not retired in 1997 ! He probably would have had the most wins by a large margin ! Paterno and Bowden probably would be no where close! Nebraska probably wins the national title in 2001 and does not get smoked by colorado !
This game is the answer to Nebraska getting back to National prominence. Attack defense with speed, and more speed. Scrap the 3-4 and all of that "defend your slots" and turn their ears back. Cmon!
Which do you think are the best WVU teams ever? I am partial to 07 of course, like most. 2009 was a pretty dang good team too. Wasn't there a team in the 80s that whipped Pitt and PSU?
1 week later West Virginia would show the world just how good Neb was, beating Ball State 16-14..... LOL, gimme a FING break...at home. This game was one of the ridiculously overrated wins during Neb's 60-3 Skip Along.
Suicide Slush Puppie we should’ve gotten to the title game that year but we underachieved thanks to some dum idiodic coaching look at the stats we ended up going 8-4
@@johnwaffleh2p70 come on, man. Nebraska outclassed WVU in every way that season, except punting. They won the national championship that year and again the following year.

Brad Nessler has tied him.
Brad Nessler is very good but he is at best a distant second to the late great Keith Jackson. GBR!!!

Man I miss Kickoff classic to start college football season. Good times
I am from NJ. I was at that game. I brought my now-wife. She understood fully what a die hard Husker fan i was.
I'm betting you knew WV graduated 28 seniors, but you subjected her to near 100 degree heat for 3+ hrs. You're just a swell guy.
Thank you
WVU’s highlight of the game was Todd Sauerbrun’s 90-yard punt.
Greatest WVU punt ever. 17:52
That was a howitzer shot

"if anything happens to Frazier, they're not real deep at quarterback."
Deep enough Bob...deep enough...
We started 3 quarterbacks 1 being a walk on to win a national championship that r
Berringer, the back up, was the better pro prospect, but died in an airplane crash.
This was an early indication of how Bob Griese is an idiot color guy. Gawd.

Yeah, Brook Berringer was all they needed as backup.
Darin Ernstad, good baseball star, won a World Series ring with the Angels back in 2002.
I always loved the Nebraska fullbacks. We called Cory "Cory Schlesinger, the Man with No Neck."
phenomenal content bmboldt. I smashed that thumbs up on your video. Keep on up the really good work.

the key was the difference in defensive speed from the prior teams
94 Nebraska was very good very deep as season showed driven Unfinished Business got it done
Ehhhh...idk
This team was better than all those 80's teams. We will never no how great this team could have been but we do know they still beat teams badly.

Be awesome to have more of these Kickoff Classics. Use the NFL stadiums for these games

Is it safe to say there will never be another kickoff classic in NJ to start the season?
This WVU punter is a menace
He had a howitzer for a leg
I love the play where Frazier throws a pass to a receiver, then you see him blocking for the receiver down the field.

Nebraska(B1G) vs. West Virginia(XII) 1994
William Diemert West Virginia was in the big East
Nebraska was in the Big 8
Someone neglected to tell the WV offense there was a game.
110 degrees and 90% humidity! Good grief. Miserable.
Always been in mighty meadowlands jets and giants home stadiam in jersey but new torks stadioum
Sauerbrun had a Howitzer for a leg
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Imagine how ugly this game would have been if Nebraska's offensive played better. 31-0 is good enough but this should have been at least 52-0
Certain years WVU could have gave TO's Nebraska teams a close battle but 94 was an average WVU team !

I gotta agree with you. Had this game been played on a hill, I think a mountaineer could've had a chance. Why are football fields always so flat?
Frazier just couldn't pass.
He improved quite a bit the following year, although he was always streaky.

He did improve the following year, but that wasn't his forte, and it didn't need to be.
