One of the members of the Nebraska team of that era said that this '94 Colorado defense, either the starting 11 or the 2-deep, he made a comment about how many of them ended up in the NFL. They respected how good this Colorado defense was
Not sure if the best. Probably 3rd best. It’s worth noting that Colorados offense became more of a passing offense which played directly into the hands of Nebraskas defensive evolution to be a pass rushing man covering defense
Outstanding game plan by one heck of a coach. I remember thinking the TE pass off the run game against an aggressive Buff team was genius. @@robjohnson8861 Looks like you put a lot of work into a losing argument. Holding it against Nebraska for playing in the era in which they played (11 game reg season, pre conference champ game) is just, well, stupid. Nebraska beat their opponents by an AVERAGE of 39 points per game. It was the first time in CFB HISTORY that a conference had 4 teams finish with 10 or more wins. And again, that's more impressive considering each team played just 11 regular season games. Colorado, K State, and Kansas all beat the brakes off their bowl game opponents, and Nebraska annihilated all 3 of them. As I'm sure you know, the closest game Nebraska had was 14 points. We saw LSU play to a 1 score game vs Texas (who needed a last sec FG to beat a 3 win KU team) and a 3 point game vs a 4 loss Auburn. Btw, this was a legitimate #2 Florida squad that won all their games by 11 or more points, including crushing Peyton Manning 62-37 and handling Bowden's #4 ranked FSU team. We all know what Nebraska did to them. Nebraska was gypped 10 points in this game--if replay had been around a Florida TD (and 2 point conversion) wouldn't have happened, and Nebraska would have had a point conversion of their own (on defense) which was ruled down. Final score 64-16. 95 Nebraska is simply the most dominant team of all-time. I'm not just some fanboi either... not even a Nebraska fan. Just an objective sports guy. Have several seats, Rob
Berringer was an anomaly at Nebraska from 1980 til the end of the Solich era. Teammates have said in '91, '92, '93 when they'd be at practice they would watch him throw and say "what is this guy doing here, why isn't he at Miami or BYU ?"
Very few high schools run it anymore. Almost all the high schools are running variations of the spread, so it would be very hard to recruit players who know and understand how to run an option offense. The entire game of football has move on from the option. There's just no easy way to implement it in the college game when there isn't a high school recruiting base for it.
The Big 8 is dead, and the Big XII is going to follow. With Texas and Oklahoma bailing out, other conferences are going to pick at the bones of the Big XII until nothing is left. Nebraska was smart to grab a parachute while they still could.
I'm not taking anything away from Nebraska, they were great during these years. But playing in the Big 8 all those years they played Kansas, Kansas St, Iowa St, Mizzou, Oklahama St. When Colorado had that great run, Oklahoma was not good and vice versa. They would play maybe 1 non-conference that was tough. Don't get me wrong, his last 5 years Tom was like 55-6. That is unreal.
60-3. K St was good for the last five years of Osborne’s career. Colorado was really good for about half that time, and so was Iowa St. And Oklahoma was good/awesome for about 20 of those years. The Big 8 had as many teams in the Top 10 throughout those years as any other conference. In fact, the very next year, the Big 8’s last, the conference had four teams (half the conference)- Nebraska, Kansas, K St., and Colorado- in the top 8 in the final poll. Nebraska beat them 41-3, 49-25 (42-6 entering the 4th qtr), and 44-21 (scored on the first play and were never challenged, even though they were on the road), respectively.
@@djamo1969 When was Iowa St good? Colorado was good when Oklahoma was not that good. OK St? They were never good. KState was better the last 5 years but they were terrible during Tom's first 20 years. Big 8 was weak. Nebraska was great, but they played weak schedules.
In 1994 Nebraska played West Virginia, Texas Tech, and UCLA in its non-conference schedule. In 1995 they played Michigan State (coached by Nick Saban), Arizona State, and Washington State. Colorado and Kansas were both ranked in the Top 20 of the final AP Poll in 1994. Kansas State, Colorado, and Kansas were all ranked in the TOP 10 of the final AP poll for 1995. For a conference with only eight teams, how many do you expect? It is a myth that Nebraska skirted by with an easy schedule compared to other teams.
However you criticize it, the Big 8 teams often did very well in bowl games. No one knew what their quality was year after year, because they kept beating the crap out if each other.

I missed the Big Eight Conference I never like the Big XII conference.
Love the cream with the scarlet N on the helmet
Colorado had so many more players make it in the NFL can't believe they got so Dominated. Plus watching that and hearing Kieth Jackson call a game was kind of annoying but very old school you never will hear someone like him again
Yeah soooo dominated..the huskers couldn't muster up a single point in the second half. If they play this game again in Boulder CU wins hands down. They were easily the more talented team that season they had like 14 players taken in the draft. They just had a terrible 1st quarter in this game and missed on several drives in NU territory. This was like the USC Texas NC game..if they play that game 99 more times USC wins evertime. Texas just happened to win like NU did on this day.
@@cpiep I would say according to your argument, I came down to much better coaching!
@@cpiep I'm not sure what game you are talking about? Nebraska crushed Colorado. Colorado missed on several drives because Nebraska defense dominated this game.
Nebraska's advantage was quarterback. Colorado's linebackers were better. Salaam was better then Phillips. For 3 years Stewart was Nebraska's MVP in this game.
@@cpiep 24-7 is getting dominated...the following year in Boulder they got beat even worse...stop with the revisionist history....
I was at this game.... GBR!!!

Who would have thought the best athlete on the field was Nebraska's kicker!
ESPN College Game Day was in Lincoln for this game.
a #2 vs #3 in the regular season is the game of the week
@@otaviofrnazario Yup, this was a pretty big game. Whoever won it would be in contention to play for the national championship. And in this case, the winner was Nebraska.
Colorado was never a rivalry game for Nebraska!!!
@timothy Oklahoma was the rival but 89 thru the mid 90s this was a big game
@Diane Newman again 89 thru 96 CU vs Nebraska meant more but yes ou vs Nebraska was bigger
@Diane Newman when he got to Colorado he had to have a rival so he choose Nebraska as the red letter game Not Bowl game
As great as we was in 95 I honestly believe the Fraser stays healthy all of 94. We may have been even better in 94 then we were at 95 if we had finished the job you gotta think we was beat up all year, we stayed healthy the whole year my God we would’ve rolled everybody. We still want all the games, but I honestly believe it’s Fraser wasn’t rusty against Miami in the orange bowl that we beat Miami by 30 points.
Last time we pulled down the goal posts in Lincoln, I believe.
I love Corey!! Lions legend as well. Busted Facemask

I loved that scoop to 27!

Rae Carruth and Lawrence Philips.
I'm hoping to see Joel Klatt's final two games as a Buffalo, in 2005.
A very impressive win cause Colorado was a great team. Was the 94 Nebraska team better than the 95 team? I think the 94 Colorado and 94 Miami teams were better than any teams the 95 Nebraska team played.
Seemed like the 95 Colorado, Kansas and Kansas State teams were really good too.......they all finished 10-2, losing only to Nebraska and each other and dominated their bowl games, but you make a good point....94 Colorado and 94 MIami were very talented teams for sure. Big Red sure was a machine in those years !
No, 95 was just so dominate they made all their opponents look like scrubs.
Lol...95 was the most dominant team to ever play CFB.

Man Buffs were far more talented team. Goes to show you what coaching does for ya
McCarny had an incredible staff . Great coaches, but more importantly, great recruiters you need the players. And they had them
Our corn and savior scott frost will lead us back to the promised land. The road is paved in corn! Lol
If touchdown, Tommy plays Nebraska wins impressively.
Berringer was an anomaly at Nebraska from 1980 til the end of the Solich era. Teammates have said in '91, '92, '93 when they'd be at practice they would watch him throw and say "what is this guy doing here, why isn't he at Miami or BYU ?"
Colorado and Nebraska in top ten again in 24
Law Phillips RIP you tortured soul.
Why can’t we just go back to the option. I mean really!!
Very few high schools run it anymore. Almost all the high schools are running variations of the spread, so it would be very hard to recruit players who know and understand how to run an option offense. The entire game of football has move on from the option. There's just no easy way to implement it in the college game when there isn't a high school recruiting base for it.
Also the wishbone when you have the speed also in your offensive line it’s a thing of beauty.
Lawrence Phillips committed suicide in prison. Rashan Salaam committed suicide outside the football stadium in Boulder.
Look at that face mask LP had! Our I backs didn't have that
Big 8 Heavyweights Boxing Match.
LP really carried that team.
Lawrence didn’t know how good he was. He was truly special arguably the best Nebraska running back of all time.
Phillips was good. RIP

Dear Nebraska, Go back to the Big 8/Big 12. Nebraska as a Big 10 team will never sound right.
The Big 8 is dead, and the Big XII is going to follow. With Texas and Oklahoma bailing out, other conferences are going to pick at the bones of the Big XII until nothing is left. Nebraska was smart to grab a parachute while they still could.
Until they win a B10 championship…
Some tragedies on that Colorado team-Rashaan Salaam commits suicide, Rae Carruth convicted of having his pregnant girlfriend murdererd.
Lawrence Phillips should not been a hard headed person
He was a lot worse than that. A troubled young man who never got the help he needed.
@@pretorious700 Mental illness needs to be studied and re-studied. At that time not enough research to understand it.RIP LP
Had friends from my work who went there and said Colorado fans were spitting on Nebraska people!!
I highly doubt it. In a stadium with 78,000 Husker fans do you really think a few hundred Buff supporters would start some shit?
I’m not surprised. You can’t spell scumbags with CU. GBR!

If they play this game 99 more times CU wins the other 99. They were easily the more talented team. They had like 14 players drafted. There was a reason they were favored by 14 on the road. If you read the Lincoln Journal Star article before the game NU's defensive staff said "this CU team is the most talented offensive football team to ever set foot on in Memorial Stadium including any Nebraska team ever".
This game was like the USC Texas NC game. If they play that game 99 more times USC wins every time.
If you say so. That incredible CU offense scored 7 points and was thoroughly beaten by a team playing its backup QB.
@@bmboldt CU had a bad first half. NU couldn't muster up a single point in the second half. How many missed field goals did CU have? How many trips in the NU red zone ended with no points. If the game was in Boulder its a completely different game. There's no question there was more talent on CU's roster. They had 3 heisman candidates and the heisman winner. That team had as many players drafted as the 2001 Miami team.
chris pieper yet this same Nebraska team face a very talented Miami team later on that season on their field and beat them.
And yet cu did nothing in crunch time in the second half but score a meaningless td. You really are stupid, Chris Pieper. This was Stewart’s what, 28th, 29th start and Nebraska absolutely beat his ass all day long. If they played the game 100 times, Nebraska would easily win more than cu.
@@dwighta8215 Yea, CU got whooped in this game. They were loaded with talent tho as well there aint no denying that. Kordell was like a deer in headlights in this game and it was over early. Having to go up again Tommie Frazier never helps either. Probably the best option QB to ever do it... He always beat the crap out of us heh... Hard to beat Tommie. No matter how much talent u have... Throw in a QB tho that goes deer in the headlights tho and its over... This CU team was loaded tho for sure. Altho I liked the version with Charles Johnson at WR on the other side of Westbrook... With Fauria at tight end. Then the running game and defense and etc... Charles Johnson was like Lynn Swann at CU. Always seemed to make crazy amazing catches nonstop...
