+NeidalRuekk Actually, today's comedians rely too much on the low standards most ppl have and everyone's lack of a(n) okay-ish/good sense of humour as well. Kind of like music, and how most listen to "artists" who wouldn't have anything to do with music, if the audience's standards were higher...? I guess. Btw, I find this whole issue quite critical; you can't expect humanity to truly improve when the quality of their arts exposes everything wrong with it (in addition to the usual "how they treat the weak" thing, of course, plus a few more "details"). But I suppose this conclusion would sound like an exaggeration to the ears of the majority, even now. p.s. afaik, many stand-up comedians sound like broken records these days, repeating the same (silly) lines over and over... sad, really. Also, I have to mention that I don't find swearing funny at all, most of the time ;p And I haven't seen (m)any Monty Python sketches/films yet ...I'm afraid my English will never be sharp enough to fully appreciate them :(
Yall are all wrong... same amount of great comedians... just no one has heard of um. Because the mainstream adoptes only far left radical agenda pushers. See Saturday night live NOW vs 30 Years ago
At this time a friend shall lose his friend's hammer and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before ...
Everyone in this movie is a slave to routine. In the beginning, that includes Brian. But this shopkeeper who's addicted to haggling was one of the people who made Brian realize how much better life would be if only people would work it out for themselves. He's probably wishing he figured that out before he got a bounty on his head.
Too bad, I love to haggle, and after I'd seen this I'd loved it even more because that's exactly what it's like. I always try to force haggling when given a fair price because it reminds me of this clip. "17 my last word I won't take a penny less or strike me dead." "16" "done!" lol
I was just wondering who played the big guy- Burt. Apparently the part of "Burt" was played by John Case. (That's Case, NOT John Cleese, as many people seem to assume, just because Cleese was the tallest Python member. It is definitely not John Cleese- doesn't look anything like him, and Cleese is not THAT tall). Case also played Pilate's wife in a scene that was ultimately deleted. This film is John Case's only credited acting role on IMDB, where is listed as Pilate's wife (even though the scene was deleted) but not credited as Burt, even though he has a speaking line in a scene that stayed in the film. Go figure. He also has one film writing credit for a different film, and that's it. I haven't been able to find anything else about him. If anybody else has more info, I'd love to learn more about the mystery of John Case.
True story, they considered haggling part of establishing a relationship to get to know each other and do business in the future and it would be considered insulting to refuse to haggle and just pay the initial asking price. Still like that in many parts of the Middle East to this day.
"Offer me 14."
"I'll give you 14."
"He's offering me 14 for this!"
The Life of Brian is the only film I know of which doesn't have one boring minute.
the best bit is
Burt, This bloke won't haggle!
Won't haggle!
Four?! For this gourd?! It's worth ten!
1:58 🎶 Ten for that, you must be mad! 🎶
Eric Idle's character is actually super nice. He's teaching his customer how to save money at his own expense XD
WWOOOOOONT HAAAAGGGLEEE?!
Stand up comics today rarely make humour that lasts for this many years
Today's comedians rely too much on swearing
NeidalRuekk please don't try and say swearing is low brow, must I refer you to The Thick Of It?
jimmy2k4o Or George Carlin's "7 Dirty Words"

the sketch was written by John and Graham but Eric performed it absolutely brilliant :D
I'm a car salesman. This is beautiful.
Can you learn one or two lessons from this clip?😂
@@bigbaba1111 I'm not as good as Eric Idle. That's my biggest takeaway.

up there on a pedastall. no film will ever be funnier. an utter masterpiece
I re-watched a few days ago this movie on Netflix (lol) and I can say only this: they had not only a huge talent but also huge guts!
Holy Grail was better
@@elmo4672 Holy Grail is 2nd and Blazing Saddles 3rd
Monty Python is the holy grail of comedy. There is nothing better! The Life of Brian is probably the funniest movie ever made! Brilliant!
Everyone in this movie is a slave to routine. In the beginning, that includes Brian. "No,no. You go to 14 now"
"I'll give you 14"
"14. Are you joking?"

7 dislike this they must mad, well one born every minute XD
Not just the funniest, but one of the finest of any genre. Just genius. Faultless.
"That's four for the gord"
"Four? For this gord! It's worth ten if its worth a sheckle"
Absolutely priceless
It was a gift from me mum : )`

👏😳
This movie is great. The whole thing was hysterical. That's what you told me to say! Tell me what to say please! LMAO
This is probably the funniest film I ever seen, I love the pilate Biggus Dikkus scene
Graham Chapman was the best actor out of all the Pythons in my opinion.
As tall as Graham is, Burt has to be 10 feet tall.
Burt lol..not a very bibical name that one lol
Absolutely fucking LOL.🤣👍😂 Doesn't beat the 🤥 sketch though!!
I usually quote "don't you want to haggle?"
Not too may people get it.
GarudaStudios yeah. Why would we want to? We’re not THAT cheap.
0:40 Haggle properly, this isn't worth 19! You just said it was worth 20! Oh dear oh dear :)
Burt? This bloke won't haggle.
The Absolute Brilliance of this Film is unmatched..
This is there greatest
close second to The Holy Grail.
Ten!? Are you trying to insult me!? Me with a poor dying grandmother?
Alright 11 then
Yeah…automate that process. A.I. can’t make an algorithm for that.
1:25 - I love Brian's reaction, like 'am I the only sane one here?' XD
I just told my ex to start haggling with me! Lol
“ 10 for that you must be mad!” Priceless!!
comedy
Who plays Burt?
@bonangusacdc Pure genius - an underated, wonderful, warm, honest and immensley funny movie
Ésta es la mejor escena de esta película!!! Total y absolutamente perfecta.. jajaja..
Funniest, most brilliant movie ever made without a doubt! Every bit is a treasure.
Let me say every scene is sacred :D
yep. a masterpiece in film making and comedy..there will never be a film made that will ever come close
For some reason, I'd pay to see Christoph Waltz reenact this scene as the haggler.
so, who's going to hell/endure??
Oh well! One born every minute!!
and to think Catholics were offended when this came out
Tv comedy has died long time ago
Its the "one born every minute" that makes this!
oh dear oh dear :)
To me the funniest part by far is when he starts trying to haggle with the Gord he gave away FOR FREE!

“No no no no it’s not worth ten, you’re supposed to argue. Ten for that you must be mad!”
Not going to haggle, this is right there with the Argument Clinic as my favorite Monty Python vignette.

i won't take a penny less or stike me dead... yes because pennies existed back then haha.
How much? What? It's for the wife 🤣
@bonangusacdc Maybe in contest with themselves for The Holy Grail and the meaning of life were great also
"Oh dear oh dear....." :)
if this the life of bran and holy grail waere somehow mixed into one film film it would be the best film of any genre, past present or future.
I prefer the holy grail to be honest, and to a lesser extent the meaning of life over the life of brian despite my vocal contempt for religions.
If that ain't brilliant nothing is
True story, they considered haggling part of establishing a relationship to get to know each other and do business in the future and it would be considered insulting to refuse to haggle and just pay the initial asking price. Still like that in many parts of the Middle East to this day.
Quite possibly the funniest and greatest movie of all time.

The most irritating scene in the movie.
I love how the religious people wanted the film to be banned. Couldn't stand a good joke. Imagine they would make fun of Mohammed.
We should be banning religion . never mind just mocking it.

yep. and by a long way..no film made will ever be funnier. an utter masterpiece

Eric Idle had to learn how to haggle. It's not a very British thing, so he went to America to learn how it's done.
