Like any good treasure map I suspect it is written in code, needs a key of some kind or other such devices so it cannot be easily or casually read and understood.
The fact it's written in a circle reminds me of the Goonies map where the skull key was needed to cover parts of the written text in order to get the true meaning. 9:58 Maybe “The Great Work” is ongoing terraforming? I have long speculated that many worlds (planets and moons) have been partially or fully terraformed, which is why some planets seem to not have the biodiversity that one would expect from a naturally-occurring world.
What I found after trying my own translation out was that if you're willing to take an educated guess, the scrolls "errors" can be explained as a dialect defiance
I'm leaning toward backup worlds as much as specific experiments, i.e. if a calamity befalls the wider galaxy something like At Attin will be preserved. Basically like offworld colonies type of thing
I think what they did two things when putting Aurebesh on the Tapestry: 1) They put random collections of letters on it knowing it could barely be read, and 2) Didn't expect anyone to try and translate what COULD be read
The Barrier of At Attin may have been a security measure that was activated when the other worlds were destroyed. That would mean that they missed not just the Empire but the entirety of the Clone Wars. We know the ship they are on came from somewhere and being buried means it had been there for a long time. What if they were scouts for whoever was destroying the planets. Got to fighting amongst themselves and the ship crashed. The Supervisor (or someone) put up the Barrier and it’s been protecting them from being found since then.
I think I know what destroyed the other eight planets. There's no mention of any Death Star-esque super weapon capable of destroying whole planets prior to the Empire, nor do I think the technology to build one existed at the time. But there is a certain Blight that's connected to the Nameless that ravaged several planets during the High Republic and left them as husks.
"Destroy" doesn't necessarily mean the planet becomes dust like the Death Star did to Alderaan. At least in Legends, there were several things that could destroy a planet's atmosphere, make it's surface unlivable, or as you're already suggested, cause a mass casualty event that destabilizes everything. If these planets are old enough to date back to the Old Republic as it was in Legends, we're talking about a lot more things that could have destroyed these planets assuming they use some of the old EU lore in some way.
It reminds me of Walle, where the autopilot is just following its directive to never return to Earth. But in this case it's reversed where the supervisor is not letting anyone leave. Seems like they'll be more of an antagonist then a villain.
The very grammar we do get is the clue. This is a space Dead Sea scroll. Truely ancient, with hard to understand language, yet with practically religious connotations.
The map probably needs a cipher to understand it. I'm guessing that the 9 treasure worlds all had some type of specific infrastructure that was relevant to the Old Republic and At Attin was the banking/accounting planet.
I just want to pet that adorable owl cat creature she is adorable and seems highly intelligent I hope we see more of her I also wonder what species she is I love her design
Sounds like the 9 planets are Star Wars' answer to Star Treks "Genesis" project... perhaps this technology was so advanced that any type of chemical element could be created with it.
From what i could understand after pausing the video. I agree, the scroll is talking about the approval and creation of Nine planets the Republic deemed Necessary and had the inhabitants put to work. And one would think that anything written on a scroll wouldn't be cut off like that.... unless there are Two other scrolls needed to read the Whole section of this story.
There are instances from clone wars and the bad batch that didn't translate to anything meaningful. The main example that I can think of is the geonosis memorial on Coruscant. The aurebesh on the block is random letters. Some writing on datapads from clone wars were also fragmented/gibberish.
I decided early on that the "High Republic" thing that publication was pushing was too daunting a task to bother with, so I appreciate you giving me a cursory glance like you did. and I must say, it seems to fit very well! I will however maintain that if these records remained in the republic and communication remained, I have a hard time believeing that the Supreme Chancellor of the republic would not have interfered with the planet during the last years of the Republic. this makes me believe that somehow the knowledge of these Jewels were lost before Palpatine came into office, meaning that communication between At Attin and the Republic is nonexistent.
Yeah, I hope that Owl Lady had a few back-up plans. Do you think the FO or Imperial Remnant will be harsh on that lost planet? What will Will reaction be when the word of Order 66 arrives?
It might be something like: A dozen eggs A couple pounds of butter Three pounds of lox A pound of cream cheese A dozen bagels Can of coffee Gallon of milk
First thing I thought when I saw the Lunch Money, was Wow those are shiny! Only equivalent I can think of is a fresh roll of quarters. Hands are grimy things, its impossible to keep money that clean. Without, some sort of manufacturing process for new coinage....
I'm loving this show. My question is how did the other 8 planets get destroyed? I would have to look at the map but the center one looks like a black hole. And we know the Mortis Gods could move worlds. So could they be adding the prison the holds Aboloth into the main cannon?
It’s possible that whoever designed this tapestry made it deliberately confusing so that the Internet doesn’t uncover a massive spoiler prematurely. They probably know that channels like this one will meticulously study the tapestry in an attempt to translate it, and they made the tapestry in this way to obscure some secret.
As always, love your Star Wars content and extrapolation to our world. The tapestry is very old, so I am wondering if that partially explains the errors or disjointed feel of the content. We would struggle communicating in Shakespeare's England and would find it nearly impossible in the age of Old English. Perhaps the language from the late Republic to Empire represents an evolved version that is not possible on the tapestry/scroll. Regardless, thank you for your time and effort completing the translation.
You said "....why teach kids about astrology" when you surely meant "astronomy." Alan, I think you're very correct in most of your speculations about At Attin. And because this series is supposed to be an homage to "Amblin Entertainment," I wouldn't be surprised if the end message for the kids is "there's no place like home."
Given that they've showed that Jude Law's character is known by many aliases it seems the main reason for the show will be the reveal of who he is and isn't really about this secret treasure planet. The fact they're suggesting that he also doesn't know who he is means we cannot even guess based upon his behaviour. If I were too look at this from a production angle though, the fact they've budgetted for Jude Law suggests a significant recurring character and based upon his age and facial features I've started to wonder if this is Galen Merek. Such a popular character would certainly recoup the money spent on casting if he appears in movies.
It’s very unlikely At Attin was setup during the high republic era because they said the Sith destroyed the other 8 planets. The sith did not exist during the high republic era except the rule of 2. Also, Whim plays with both Jedi and Sith toys. The sith en mass were destroyed over 1000 years earlier. This all points to the planet being isolated since before the Ruusan Reformation. Best guess is that the supervisor is a droid, a figure no one meets in person. If the planet is highly rich in iridium, there’s good reason to keep it permanently hidden and managed by droids.
Speaking as a former Alaska resident myself while the Alaska PFD was a helpful yearly financial boost it only really works if wages increase at a rate that keeps up with general inflation otherwise the standard cost of living makes it less and less helpful each year, and that's not even taking into account corporate price gauging. Though with corporations now seemingly dead set on replacing living workers with AI we may need to move to stranded government provided incomes just to keep our economy functioning, which in turn will require everyone to pay their fair share in taxes. No more tax cuts for the wealthy.
Another idea is if this could be some sort of prison planet that where hide away? Or punishment colony like Australia once was? Or persons whom are forbidden to go outside theyre planet for other reasons?
Does anyone else similarities in Atattin and Tanalor? I mean, both hidden behind a naturally existing barriers, both capable of supporting common life, both are called forgotten treasure worlds.
They probably cut themselves off from the rest of the galaxy before episode 1, before Papa Palpatine was elected Supreme Chancellor, because if it's even rumored to be a treasure planet and he knew where it was then it would have been stripped shortly into his reign
Dog goes "woof", cat goes "meow" Bird goes "tweet" and mouse goes "squeak" Cow goes "moo", frog goes "croak" And the elephant goes "toot" Ducks say "quack" and fish go "blub" And the seal goes "ow ow ow" But there's one sound that no one knows What does the scroll say?
It could be possible that the republic protected these planets to have the high republic live on if future conflicts were to arise. Like a resurgence of a war or the sith were to return and conquer worlds. It also begs the question of why people like palpatine didn't discover the planets. The old republic never kept records of senate resolutions regarding these 9 planets like the tapestry?
is it just me or does the translation of the tapestry seems incomplete? Like we are missing parts of the sentences or something ... Maybe that map is part of a bigger thing that madam owl just did not (yet) own. And the kids will need her help again later to figure something out. I mean there ought to be a reason she gave the kid her ... ehh number? what was it actually? Do know she gave her something to contact her. So this is probably not the last we have seen of madam owl.
the edges were frazzled, so some words has been lost. I did not get the feeling the sentences were continuing outside the assumed border as to indicate part of a larger piece.
The Grysk destroyed the other planets and hid on At Attin occupied it and are mining Nyix. The sunrises are subtle hints that the planet is in the Sunrise System and Thrawn was lost in the Unknown Regions trying to find it.
Just so your aware, they ask you to say the alphabet backwards for you to say " I can't even do that sober" which they use as an addition of guilt. Just say you can't do it and leave it at that
Know how Yoda's homeworld is a huge secret that nobody talks about? I'm betting that At Attin is Yoda's planet and it was hidden long before Yoda was even born. The crashed ship was buried under centuries of forest overgrowth and the city couldn't have even existed when it crashed or they'd have known about it. That ship was probably there for well over 1,000 years. The treasure isn't wealth, it's Yoda's species who are all extremely Force sensitive.
I wonder if Jocasta Nu or the Jedi Archives knew of or had any record of At Attin. I'm guessing probably not since they didn't even have a record on Kamino after it had been erased from the Archive memory banks.
In our world, languages change over time, known as linguistic drift. For instance, a modern English speaker would struggle reading Middle English texts and Old English would be almost unintelligible unless you knew Anglo-Saxon or Frisian. A Modern English speaker unfamiliar with Internet trends would not understand much of the slang now used by Gen Z and Gen Alpha to communicate via text without a slang dictionary. The struggle with translating the scroll could be that the language has drifted from when it was written in the Old Republic thousands of years ago. Grammar has changed some, spellings have changed, characters have morphed, etc. So in this case the scroll is largely untranslatable to anyone except a scholar in the language of the era in which it was written, and even then it might be a best guess in some cases. So that may have been the graphic designer's intent in making the scroll really hard to translate using what is the standard language of the modern era of the Republic/Empire.
I'm not against Universal Basic Income in general, I just think it's need is a failure of imagination and capability. If we were capable, we'd fix the laws that allow market leaders to absorb so much of the finite wealth in circulation at any given time. We'd break up the banks and consumer focused chemical companies, making room for new innovation and wealth in all sectors of our economy, in as many geographic zones as possible. Spending without production only serves to feed a consumer based death spiral. It can slow the consumer based death spiral we're already in but it doesn't fix the problem. Fixing the problem requires political candidates who care and a voter base that's actually informed/acts on credible information.
Maybe it's not supposed to be read in flat 2d? Like maybe it's supposed to be scanned and read in a projected 3d model... kinda like the Star Maps from KOTOR.
In did a cursory read and concluded that I had too little of the tapestry to work with, so I didn't do much more than that. I have most of the letters memorized, so for me it would be too big of an issue to translate anything, just give me a clear enough picture and I'm good. practically, give me a book written in aurebesh and from the 3rd of 4th page, I'd be reading it fluently!
Must be only 1/3rd of the map, with 2 more sides ripped off. Then if you think of the whole tapestry as a disc or a planet with rings that you can turn, then the words will be replaced along with the planets and maybe make sense? I think they did smth like this in pirates of the caribbean and thats disney too.
Aha! I was waiting on Alan doing this! Thanks dude! Hmm I wonder if they did it on purpose because they knew some nerds would translate and it might spoil things. Or maybe they might explain it as "its encrypted".
I was just thinking the words looked cobbled together because you just need to rearrange them in a certain order. But that's just me, so please pay no mind.
Maybe the scroll was written long ago when the language was slightly different much like old English of 1000 years ago vs today's that's why some of the words don't make sense or letters don't match
Hmm, could it be a code of some sort, the O seems to replace letters, maybe that replacement letter spells another word with the letters its replacing or something? Maybe run what's there into chatgpt and see what it says.
There is UBI besides Alaska. American Indian reservations that have a casino get paid twice a month. Additionally, there's SSI for the drug addicts and others who don't work for a living. Let's not forget about section 8 housing and food stamps.
Alan, what happens if the New Republic or the Imperial Remnant have access to this planet? We know war is coming with thrawn. How could discovering this planet affect that war?
It's prolly an ancient communication that says "We've been trying to reach you about your starship's extended warranty..." 😅

9 worlds for mortal men, doomed to die...
"Doomed to die..."
Having this video in my recommended without remembering that there's a new Star Wars show going on is a very funny experience
If I am not mistaken, the planets are from Old Republic, not High Republic which means they have been isolated for thousands of years not hundreds.
At-Attan is giving me Fallout Vault vibes because it seems to good
The very grammar we do get is the clue. This is a space Dead Sea scroll. Truely ancient, with hard to understand language, yet with practically religious connotations.
and yet creator still tries to point out it's not Old Republic (KOtOR/ SWtOR) but the Prequels Republic
have you not listened at all? it can't be truly ancient, it's 500 years old at the most.
The map probably needs a cipher to understand it.
I'm guessing that the 9 treasure worlds all had some type of specific infrastructure that was relevant to the Old Republic and At Attin was the banking/accounting planet.
She reminded a bit of Aughra from the Dark Crystal. I was halfway expecting to hear her mention the Great Conjunction…
Oh Allen! I'm Dyslexic and they had no clue way back in the day. Thank you ;)
Maybe it needs to be folded. ?
It might be something like:
A dozen eggs
A couple pounds of butter
Three pounds of lox
A pound of cream cheese
A dozen bagels
Can of coffee
Gallon of milk
First thing I thought when I saw the Lunch Money, was Wow those are shiny! Only equivalent I can think of is a fresh roll of quarters. Hands are grimy things, its impossible to keep money that clean. Without, some sort of manufacturing process for new coinage....
I'm loving this show. My question is how did the other 8 planets get destroyed? I would have to look at the map but the center one looks like a black hole. And we know the Mortis Gods could move worlds. So could they be adding the prison the holds Aboloth into the main cannon?
in regards to one of the Jewels of the Republic? I think not.
I am however interested in learning about the destruction, as you are.
The writers KNOW that folks will try to translate the tapestry. That's why it's laid out as it is.
It’s possible that whoever designed this tapestry made it deliberately confusing so that the Internet doesn’t uncover a massive spoiler prematurely. They probably know that channels like this one will meticulously study the tapestry in an attempt to translate it, and they made the tapestry in this way to obscure some secret.
it roughly translates to: we have 9000 different alien species already, but instead here's a talking owl
Maybe the dialect changes for each of the planets , the backwards could indicate a possible yoda species homeworld
You said "....why teach kids about astrology" when you surely meant "astronomy."
Alan, I think you're very correct in most of your speculations about At Attin.
Does everyone forget that the Ithorians (who are one of the Species on At Atin) were once "worldbuilders" and "terraformers"?
It could be essentially ''Old Galactic Basic'', which is a bit different, like Old English.
They probably cut themselves off from the rest of the galaxy before episode 1, before Papa Palpatine was elected Supreme Chancellor, because if it's even rumored to be a treasure planet and he knew where it was then it would have been stripped shortly into his reign
Dog goes "woof", cat goes "meow"
Bird goes "tweet" and mouse goes "squeak"
Cow goes "moo", frog goes "croak"
And the elephant goes "toot"
Ducks say "quack" and fish go "blub"
And the seal goes "ow ow ow"
But there's one sound that no one knows
What does the scroll say?
The translation is probably weird because it is either old or was meant to be part of a puzzle or riddle to keep just anyone from finding the planet.
The Grysk destroyed the other planets and hid on At Attin occupied it and are mining Nyix. The sunrises are subtle hints that the planet is in the Sunrise System and Thrawn was lost in the Unknown Regions trying to find it.
10:29 is there any way to see what species were all seen on the planet and see if there are certain common traits between them?
Fandom or wookipedia
This map could be proto republic, using an older form or Arobesh. Also, it could be code.
This is like a newspaper in movies
The main headline is important, the other articles are gibberish
Just so your aware, they ask you to say the alphabet backwards for you to say " I can't even do that sober" which they use as an addition of guilt. Just say you can't do it and leave it at that
ASTROLOGY??? My man... Astronomy!
Very Nice 📜
🎉bravo, excellent hard work
Know how Yoda's homeworld is a huge secret that nobody talks about? I'm betting that At Attin is Yoda's planet and it was hidden long before Yoda was even born. The crashed ship was buried under centuries of forest overgrowth and the city couldn't have even existed when it crashed or they'd have known about it. That ship was probably there for well over 1,000 years. The treasure isn't wealth, it's Yoda's species who are all extremely Force sensitive.
I wonder if Jocasta Nu or the Jedi Archives knew of or had any record of At Attin. I'm guessing probably not since they didn't even have a record on Kamino after it had been erased from the Archive memory banks.
yeah, proud Jedi Archivists and their Archives without any backup...
For better or worse, DC is always an experimental jurisdiction for creative Congressional legislators.
Off-topic you made me laugh about the sobriety test because it’s a self omission to being drunk when you say you couldn’t do it sober
I like the theory that the planet is actually being run by droids from the top down and the humans don't even know it.
Star Wars version of 'Silo'
hey allen
There’s gotta be some connection to Empire or First Order. A planet named At Attin can’t be a coincidence that it sounds like AT-AT.
Sounds more Mandalorian to me. "Atin" means "stubborn."
*Astronomy
I don't drink and I don't think I could do the alphabet backwards
Maybe the scroll was written long ago when the language was slightly different much like old English of 1000 years ago vs today's that's why some of the words don't make sense or letters don't match
He did it.
Hmm, could it be a code of some sort, the O seems to replace letters, maybe that replacement letter spells another word with the letters its replacing or something? Maybe run what's there into chatgpt and see what it says.
New Rockstars also complained hard about how lazy it was to use gibberish on half of it
Love Alaska oil dividends
There is UBI besides Alaska. American Indian reservations that have a casino get paid twice a month. Additionally, there's SSI for the drug addicts and others who don't work for a living. Let's not forget about section 8 housing and food stamps.
Was not expecting an UBI vid! 😂haha
What city do we see in the window behind you?
Alan, what happens if the New Republic or the Imperial Remnant have access to this planet? We know war is coming with thrawn. How could discovering this planet affect that war?
