Really enjoying this series. I raced for about 30 years and started with the JRX2 when everyone else had an RC10. I recall vividly that at the Winter Champs in Tampa all the best drivers from around the world were there. Gil Losi Jr. was no longer at the top of his game but in a qualifier he was next to me, and I'll never forget, I could see out of the corner of my eye, his hands were holding the radio and shaking so badly it was kinda' making me nervous too. LOL! He seemed like a really modest guy by the way and very helpful to me at one of the question and answer sessions. So there were several Winter Champs and then the Losi Champs took place in Largo, FL at Minnreg. What a great venue! Choose your pit table, indoors, A/C and when you're ready, head out to the track. They served breakfast, lunch and dinner right there. At night you just left your stuff at your pit (unless you had something you wanted to work on at the hotel) and in the morning you were ready to go again. So many great names: Kinwald, Jack Johnson, Masami, Howart and so many others. I attended all three Losi Champs and still have (and cherish) the custom pit mats they included plus T-shirts. I ran Sportsmans 2WD Mod and Mod Truck and made the A mains most of the three years they were held. (With my A Main 5th place Truck and Buggy trophies for the Third Annual prominently displayed in my living room.) The guys who ran those races were really on the ball, wish I could remember their names. Still have my original JRX2 box, but not the whole car unfortunately. But I have some XX's, XXX's, XXXT and a couple of 22 3.0 at which point I dropped out. I was always so serious about racing but as I got older the nervous excitement just seemed to turn into anxiety. Plus all the tracks went to either super high bite clay or carpet and I missed the loamy tracks I learned on where you could just throw the car into the corners, brake hard and throttle out. Anyway, thanks for the memories!
Sounds like you were at the height of rc racing. I wish I grew up in the kit era. Nowadays, most of your RC are RTR. Thank God losi an Team associated still produce kits. Me and my best friend at the time bought a used RC 10. And we did everything in our power to make it faster than everybody else but this was in 2010. We didn’t have money for a new kit plus engine and exhaust everything else that you have to buy separate. By 2014 everyone had Traxxas Revo or jato with the two speed that could whoop everything that was a one speed. It was good times while it lasted
This video brings me so much nostalgia. I remember getting the AD2 gas truck back in ‘04 when it was released and the quick change hubs were the talk of the track. Seeing those classic “Drake” kits on the shelf retired from their racing career make me envious and nostalgic. Beautiful.
One of the best "quick immediate fixes" for the 1996 GTX was the Factory Works Bearing spacer kits. Was constantly pounding out the wheel bearings because there wasn't any inner bearing race support, and in the heat of battle, one would overtighten the wheel nut and crush the bearings out in a few laps. The black MIP clutch was next, versus fiddling with the brown 2 shoe oem setup. Was a glorious day when the shock piston sizes made sense finally. Then, it was glued!. Recently restored my orig GTX with a mix of NiB orig Losi bits, Hammad Ghuman, OS .12 with CVEC baffle pipe, and other big players at the time. Glorious Days back then!. Thanks for the memories Losi!.
I really love hearing the history portion of RC. It was something i always wondered and didnt even think that it would be such an amazing tale. Especially for Losi. It makes me have more loyalty to the family.
I've enjoyed the rc hobby for 15 years...I've done a little sct racing...I've never heard of quick change hubs! It seems there's always something new to learn about rc.
The quick change hubs on the AD2 Gas truck were a game changer. I miss that class. I really miss that truck in general. I’m forever looking for “NIB” Losi AD2 kits on EBay.
We need the new TLR X NITRO💥💨TRUGGY to come out already and get Adam Drake back on board ! Let’s make a LOSI Come back already. Adam Drake also used to race 5th scales at LOSI like the mighty Losi 5T .
Racers stories of adventure, excitement and tedium are just thrilling to hear! So very thankful I got part 2; what an awesome story, Adam, you just had me kinda thrown a while back, way back, when you had on a red plastic fireman's hat!
In 2001 I raced Losi electric 2wd and mentioned I'd like to run nitro's A older fella I meet had a old NXT nitro all original he says here ya go try this out and gave it to me I used a right hand controller left handed lol I got laughed at many times My first nitro race with that old truck I was climbing up to the drivers stand and I heard people laughing at the truck and how I held my controller lol My pit man said you want be laughing at the end of the race By the end of the first lap I was in first I lead the whole race up till the last 2 laps I barely clipped a wooden barrier and broke my left front A arm The only place on the track that had wood instead of pipe lol A guy I didn't know was set up right there He grabbed my truck slapped a zip tie on it to hold the A arm on I was so far a head when he threw my truck back on the track the 2nd place truck had just passed me I limped the truck around the last 2 laps with the left front wheel literally flapping around and still finished 3rd I still have that 3rd place trophy and the people that was laughing all apologized lol True story I raced that truck 2-3 more times and never raced nitro again It was just to much trouble and ya gotta have a pit man that I didn't always have so I just stuck to electric which is a lot cleaner smother and in my opinion faster LOSI IS #1 BABY 🔥👍 Great video Enjoyed it very much ✌️ I subbed
Little hypocritical, the "Pro-Racers" freelancing concern? Same as Gill undercutting Cox in 1980's, going directly to Tamiya etc, and Cutting off AE when cars agreement not meet by TA/AE? Its like NHL, NASCAR etc, A-main are the Pro's. Yes its a hobby, but we still need the A-Main Pro drivers to make a living :)
We made money back then, today some are making extremely good living... Back then (late 80s, thru late 90s) we made good money, when touring car got hot and I was one of the best in the world in that class... EPIC, Novak, HG, Protoform and Schumacher paid me very VERY well.

Thanks for the little nod about the truck bodies Adam. It brings back memories.

i wish they still had quick change. seems like that would be great.

Tips for you MFE owners:rear pivot block bolted to graphite option pivot plate; mounting screws @top of rear bumper replace w/ studs + nylocks; replace front shock tower cap screws w/ flathead + flush washer; longer flathead front bumper screws and surface rings 400 wet and one more: 5-40 flathead for bottom rear bumper mount! Happy racing!
just found this, so awesome! thanks Losi
Adam is so down to earth my favorite rc driver

Hello !, I am the proud owner of a complete original xxxNT Adam Drake 2, my question is when did this car come out, what year ?
2004. I remember getting this kit towards the end of 2004 and it was the talk of the track because of the quick release hubs. I loved it!
