Because of the price? They are not a better trigger, Geiselle is the industry standard as far as I’m concerned, pricy, yes, manufactured superior to others yes, not for everyone, I understand.
@@alanmeyers3957There are several reasons Larue triggers are superior to Geisellies. One being the construction of the components, if you don’t know what I’m referring to you’re a fanboy. I own several of both and I know the larue triggers are better made, I don’t care what might be standard. But really the generic Schmidt 2 stage is 90% of either, the vast majority of people will be happy with one of those.
Awesome! I have a LaRue PredatOBR in 5.56 and it's my fav. I have a huge amount of respect for you and for LaRue, so you doing this is amazing. Thank you!
I've been enjoying a LaRue rifle very much like that one a whole lot. I'll be on the lookout for their armorer's class in my area. Will be happy for an opportunity to learn a bit more about my rifle.
Chad, it's great to hear from you. I've been looking forward to more of your videos. I'm glad to hear good things about LaRue. I currently don't own a LaRue rifle but have 3 of their triggers which are top notch especially for the money. Rebel is looking healthier than ever. He's a happy and that's all that matters. Love this channel!! I’m of an electrical bias but proper interested in the engineering aspect of firearms. The ar family is probably my third favourite rifle, after the Lee Enfield and the Snider rifle. I’m digging Chads humility, quite refreshing. I’m sure we have all come across those folk who think they know everything in every job scenario. Show me someone who knows everything and I’ll guess he’s a liar! 🇬🇧🤝🇺🇸
I found this video educational ( so there, youtube) I have been staking my buffer tube nuts when I never did. A General Tools Co. #78 Auto Center Punch does a very good job of staking.
Its good you explained the reasoning behind Larue rifle for Larue class. A lot of times people that have not gone through a course with a specific company or instructor will be quick to judge thinking greed, arrogance or some other off base reasoning why there are stipulations. Ignorance is not bliss thanks for the quick review.
I have 6 LaRue Rifles (3 large frame/3 small) - My advice is to get a PredatOBR. Not to knock your student's gun, but the PredatOBRs (and the OBRs and the PredatARs, neither of which are still in production) are in a different class compared to their new lower-end rifles.
I also am a believer of variety. Within my... harem... of AR based rifles only two are D.I. and even they are wildly different from each other. The types of piston stet ups differ and there's a few calibers sprinkled in there for good measure. Drop in triggers G.I. triggers, different furniture, whatever... And then, there's the rest of them. Not AR based, all fascinating for different reasons. A lot of them have the exact same optics though...
Hi Chad. Terrific vid. FYI, you know I got the gauge set. Took a little while but that's cool. Just wanted to let you know I think the gauges are da bomb. They work great. As a matter of fact here's a little story. I built 2 AR's with new stuff, JP LowMass carrier and bolt, fixed gas block, JP LowMass buffer and Geissele braided buffer spring. Full length buffer sys. First range test I couldn't get the actions to cycle fully. Diagnosed it as the Geissele springs were overpowering the action. So I contacted them. They said perhaps my gas sys. was loose and bypassing to much gas. I said nope, I have SAR gauges. Brings me to this question. Do you have a tool to measure buffer springs pressure at various lengths? I know there's a spec for length so there must be a spec for pressures too, right?
Im really anticipating the ruger teardowns. I know from personally working on similar projects at other manufacturers, from other's product reviews and from owning one that the SFAR is hot garbage from the factory in both design and QC as simple as proper assembly. They can be bandaid'd with some parts meant for other applications off the shelf, but this and "sporter" design choices I've seen on the AR556 and a friend with an out of spec lower likely due to a dull drill overboring trigger pin holes, have really colored my opinion of Ruger as a company. I want to see if the numbers align with this opinion.
I don’t know the details but a lot of companies intentionally size their port such that they pair with a standard carbine buffer out of the box. I will say I agree with that approach, feel free to disagree, but I’ll tell you my reasoning. Operating with a perfect ejection pattern with a standard buffer gives a lot of leeway when adding a suppressor. Additionally you have a lot of runway for gas port erosion before the gas port gets so large that it’s overgassed with an H3. It extends the life of the barrel with the user needing only to add buffer weights as the gas port erodes. If you’re starting with an H or H2, then you’d need an H2 or H3 when suppressed and have almost no give once gas port erosion kicks in.
Companies tend to use non heavy buffers because it saves money. Ejection pattern is not what people make it out to be. Buffer weight also has to do with the weight of the weapon and barrel. More weight keeps the carrier to the rear longer.
@@SchooloftheAmericanRifle I will add, just FYI, you *can* use an H buffer with all of these barrels, but it's not required and works pretty well without it. These barrels (Faxon, Ballistic Advantage, Aero Precision), are all designed to be paired with a standard buffer and spring, regardless of the barrel length or gas system length.
@@alanmeyers3957 For the second time these are NOT factory rifles. These are BARRELS. Faxon, Ballistic Advantage and a few others specifically designed their BARRELS (not factory rifles) to gas when paired with standard springs and buffer weights. They’ll probably work just as well with H and H2, but they are designed to work with standard springs and buffer weights.
That looks like an Ultimate Upper Kit, not a fully assembled LaRue like a OBR, PredatAR and PredatOBR. So what did the owners assemble and not assemble? This would be an important part of the review. If I had to make an assumption, the owner assembled the lower. But I could be wrong.
He says he doesn’t recommend, I recommend, bcm, aero, etc, make sure the protrusion is correct and the headspace guages correctly and live happy, don’t sweat it unless something breaks, buy known quality.
Aluminum end plates don't really allow for good castle nut retention. At best it's a witness mark. Titanium is a challenge to stake unless you are somewhere skilled at the task. The amount of energy you use to stake titanium can allow the receiver extension to get dented which can cause the carrier to bind (depending on the carrier used).

@SchooloftheAmericanRifle Yeah, no kidding. The owner got mad because I said if he raised the prices of his MBTs, I wouldn't buy anymore. The price was the only reason I bought them. And he flipped out on me over it.
Nice that Larue allow humans to attend and not just LEO and such.
An important distinction ;)
Based
Very good point. I should have brought that up in the video.

Anxiously awaiting the Ruger results
