"well, that's life" you teach much more than bonsai, Sir. Most of us would've been bent outta shape over that. Your philosophy is it'll grow back and present even better opportunities for you in the future. Thank you for your channel ❤
You shaped it in such an astounding way over the years, this small incident will make you take even more care of it. Such beautiful trees with your pruning approach.
I think we all make a mistake and drop a tree or two. Like the old saying: Whatta ya gonna do. That's life. Great recovery of the tree from the fall. Nice trunk in the clip and grow method. Just like the Bonsai Master: Wu Yee-sun, you have become. Excellent!
If I would have dropped one of my baby bonsai (5 years old) like that it would have crushed me. Not sure how I would deal with dropping a 15 year old, glad I can see your reaction, gives me comfort to see how a master handles such incidents . When it happens to me I will remember. Thank you 🙏
lol that’s life is been my philosophy since I was a teen. Works well. This is why you are my favorite bonsai guy. You’re real. There far to many bonsai gods out there.
Hi Mr.Milton ,sorry about the incident with your beautiful maple,it was very painful watching that, hopefully it will recover and not affect it at all, thanks for sharing.
Sir Do you Wire down your Bonsai Trees ? How about showing Some Thread Grafting on the thick Branch that lost its little leader Branch? Just a Thought for you.
Too much salt in your soil? Not enough water? Bonsai can drown in soil with poor drainage. Too much fertilizer? Hot summer days? These could all be reasons for why the ends keep turning brown. I recommend you also consult your local nursery.
Hopefully something will grow there and it should. I had a pomegranate snap in half when it was hit by a bouncing basketball! I was sad for a minute and said well it's goind to have better taper now and just kept growing with the new restyle.
So all the roots on the bottom and sides of the pot are cut off? should I do this when repotting nursery material? why are fibrous roots prefered over larger thick roots wouldn't cutting those hurt the tree?
They are all important…but for a given amount of value, fibrous roots have much more surface area to absorb moisture. Otherwise you have a solid block of wood.
Your climate is exactly the same as the Pacific Northwest of the United States. If I were you and looking for a potting mix to copy try looking at Bonsai Mirai. They are a YT channel and Bonsai Nursery in the Pacific Northwest. Essentially every climate and every species of trees have their own preference. I believe there's a bonsai channel from Ireland called bonsai eejit (I think)that you can get ideas from because not all bonsai soil components are available everywhere. You might get some ideas from them being they are in Ireland. Best of luck to you!
If you worry about it getting too wet, add extra perlite. Try mine, it should be fine..because we get pretty wet in the winter too. (Already about 6 in a month or so). By the way, I came to Dublin to visit my favorite high school chemistry teacher, who was a Catholic brother retiring there. Beautiful country!
You could of potentially saved that branch you broke. Here's how: Insert 1/2" of a toothpick in the main branch. Apply some root hormone, press the broken part back onto the main branch, wrap it with moist paper towel, wrap with plastic wrap, tie everything together tightly string or wire rubber, keep area moist for a month or better put in humid sunny greenhouse gases so and it has a chance to repair and grow. Good Luck!
@@bonsaiheirloom I have done this method many times with varying results by species. It works similar to grafting. My best results were kept in a humid sunny greenhouse
silly question: I have a 30 year old Chinese Elm that i grew from seed and it also has had a lot of neglect. the rootbound condition is like a block of dood 4 inches deep by 14 inches diameter. Is this species of tree "close enough" to the trident maple to do the same treatment to the roots? ie: saw away a good portion and pull out roots here and there to get new fiber roots to start growing again?
Im sorry about that nice branch breaking, but It's a maple I'm sure a better one will replace it. I say it's a mission success on saving your pot and the will live on so don't be too hard on yourself.

It happens, we all have these moments, but most wouldn’t leave it in the session. Lovely Trident Maple.

Even with the broken branch it still has such a fantastic structure from years of refinement from you.
Yes, we just got to keep going!
I love your optimism here ❤”such is life”
I like the mesh idea, thank you!
Glad you like it!
Great attitude Milton........your an inspiration!!
Thank you!
Patience and composure: you are the master.
Thank you for the kind words!
Good reaction to dropping the tree. You can't go back in time so just keep moving forward 😊
Absolutely!
I jumped back in my chair when you dropped it.
It's very useful information thank you.
You are welcome!

Thanks!
A learning moment for us all. Always hold the trunk on a repot.
Lucky more branches weren't broken. I would say you were lucky.
Excellent thanks
Un grand merci pour la vidéo!
Still a great tree and you're right I will I see some people get not want to try anymore when something's broken absolutely ridiculous

If you do, be sure to get the branch from the same tree to avoid mismatch. Consider making the most of your tree, by making that a jin?
Love it I’m having troubles with my maples the leave ends keep turning brown

My heart missed several beats but as you said, let’s move on 👍
Life goes on!
could i use your soil mix in a wet country? Ireland, would it not become too water logged, especially in winter? thanks, good videos always, 👍

I would like to see a follow-up video if that broken branch recovers.
I will do follow up videos on all the bonsai I work on. Please stay tuned for them every several months!

Hmmm, I’ve got to think about that. If you try it yourself, please tell me about your experience. Thanks for the suggestion!

Pls send photo of rootball
Likely ok
Elm is more hardy than trident
At least it didn’t fall with the pot.

What are you doing 😕😕 never mind. It will grow again
ngl your approach to bonsai is so brutal it makes the videos unwatchable for me, very little care to the trees
you’re more sensitive than the tree😂
not really about sensitivy but respect towards the trees @@User_yhvz
Here you are.... watching it 🤣

Honestly, that is my intention. My goal is to encourage artistic design which can be a little drastic/unconventional. :)
