When Skeen was laying out his betrayal scheme, you can tell the calculus processing in Andor's intense stare. Andor computed that once he rejected the 40mil a piece offer, Skeen would silence him to prevent whistle-blowing. So Andor made the necessary chess move three steps ahead.

    • @andyb1653
      @andyb1653 5 місяців тому +2

@@ssotkow That's definitely part of it, but I feel it goes deeper. I think that Skeen scared the shit out of Cassian, by showing him just what the "mercenary life" could turn him into. Gunning Skeen down in-the-moment was his way of rejecting that outcome, in no uncertain terms. He literally killed that possible future.

Give everybody who worked on the Eye effects a raise. That was one of the most breathtaking things I've ever seen in this franchise and it's a pity we didn't get to witness it on a big screen.
Also I just LOVE how subtly this show is pretty much tying the whole franchise together but in a different style from how Favreau and Filoni are doing it. (And to clarify, I love F&F's approach to cohesiveness as well, I just love the contrast to Gilroy's because to me it just makes the story and the world so much richer). That "everyone has their own rebellion" quote from last? week applies to pretty much every major character from the end of TCW all the way through the OT. Everyone had their own reasons to fight - some for larger galactic good (e.g. Hera splitting with her dad because she wanted to help the whole galaxy in order to help Ryloth), others for more personal reasons (e.g. Luke just trying to save his family). This week it finally clicked for me that Ezra, Jyn, and Cassian all had the "screw up with childhood trauma only cares about self preservation" back story, but they all ended up willingly joining the Rebellion for their own specific reasons after reluctantly being recruited.
Evaluating this from a writer's perspective, F&F take a more explicit character & plot approach to cohesiveness; Gilroy seems to focus more on _thematic_ cohesiveness. And again, I love the juxtaposition of both. In terms of this show in particular, it's those small, thematic connections that are making it such an engaging watch for me, and I can't wait to see what else is in store.

3:25 Remember what Tamryn was before he was a rebel: A stormtrooper, an Imperial Infantryman, shock-trooper. He is the ex-infantryman that trained this team to fight. How do we see this in Epi 6? OK, so for the non-soldiers here, Infantrymen are trained to work as a 2-person team. The 2-man buddy team operates as a unit. One guy provides covering fire (force bad guy to duck, skew their aim, etc), while the other guy moves from one covered spot across a danger area/beaten zone to another covered spot. You don't move without someone covering you or it ends up badly for the mover. One guy says "Cover me: I'm moving." The other guys says "Move" or probably just opens up covering fire. The mover leaves protection and takes off. Once the mover gets to a covered spot, he says "Set", or something and now HE becomes the guy that provides the covering fire. So no one moves without their buddy covering them unless they are desperate. Soldiers spend hours, days, practicing this, developing their techniques, who says what to whom, when, etc. Tamryn, the ex-soldier, calls for covering fire so he can move into the open. Skeen, with what looks like a heavier firing weapon, is the perfect guy to provide it and he steps out and starts to engage. Pops off a few rounds. Tamryn sees this and starts to move. Then watch what Skeen does. Just as Tamryn is committed in the open, can't turn back, fully exposed, Skeen pulls back, ceasing fire and ducking behind the column. As soon as I saw this I said, "WTH? Did he want him to get popped?" Hmm. Turns out he did. One less person to have to try to peel off to divide the cash. I knew then that Skeen was bad business, and was not to be trusted with your life.

I love the relationship between Andor, Skeen and Nemik in this arc. Andor's abilities as a spy are really fleshed out here as well. He is not a fast talker, or some great deceiver, he just allows others to project themselves onto him, and feeds into it. Both Nemik, and Skeen project themselves onto him almost immediately. Nemik thinks him a revolutionary believer, and Skeen immediately sees him as a scoundrel/survivor. Andor feeds these projections by playing into them at times with both characters (he is not trying to deceive them, just trying to fit in, not cause any problems). Its only at the end, when Skeen offers to steal the money with him, that he fells forced to make a decision. Nemik ignored Andor's flaws, and sees the good in him, that even Andor doesnt believe about himself, while Skeen ignores the good in Andor and only sees a survivor who will put himself first. This is a fork in the road moment, and Andor chooses to reject the path Skeen is on.

Quite a few people are suggesting that Skeen was just testing Andor. Pretty dumb of him if that were the case… passing ( or failing?) the test inevitably means Cassian kills Skeen. It’s not as if Skeen is going to let him live if he says no.
It’s great understated acting by Luna - you can see Cassian’s rational mind whirring (he subtly adjusts his coat about twenty seconds before the kill to better access his blaster) but you can also see and hear the hints of angry disgust in his reaction to Skeen confessing he was lying about his brother. Cassian had to kill Skeen - but it was clearly also a killing he felt no guilt about. This is his second ‘ execution’ for reasons of self-preservation - the first being the Pre-Mor corpo begging for his life - and he has a clear emotional reaction to both. In contrast, his killing of his wounded fellow rebel at the beginning of Rogue One is much more obviously in cold blood, in the true sense. By then, he is 100% killing for the cause, not for himself. It’s a superbly constructed character arc.

If Skeen is to be believed, then less than 8 racks of cylinders (cause we see some still to be loaded in the vault from the 8th rack and the spill and other random cylinders lying around not on the ship) is worth about 80 million credits. Each rack looks to be a triangle of decreasing width, 12 cylinders high. Gaussian addition says that's 78 cylinders. So if a rack is a bit more than 10 million credits, each cylinder is worth about 135,000 credits.

My guess going forward. There are more scenes in the trailer on Ferix. You see Bix gets interrogated by Dedra. ISB will crackdown and find what they need. I think Andor will go back to Ferix to check on everyone and some how share his loot with family and friends. He will check back in with Bix. Luthen will try to reach out to bix on the radio. I believe Luthen, Val and Mon will try to recruit Andor again. That is why you see Vel on Ferix in the Trailer. All roads lead back to Ferix. The Dedra and the ISB will go back to the source for Andor. Also... Andor will come back to check in. But he will see all the heat and storm troopers and some fight will ensue. In Idle times, Andor will become inspired with the Manifesto and will become committed to the cause. Awesome show and loved the reaction.

Neat thing about this 3 episode mini-arc they keep setting up is that after the 3rd, 6th, etc. episode you have no idea where the story is going to go next, you have no idea after episode 3 that Andor is going to have to fit in with this band of misfits on this big heist and after the 6th episode we really have no idea specifically what is going to happen next with him. But within those arcs you have an idea of what they're heading towards and the slow buildup of tension over the 2 setup episodes.

I think in addition to Skeen's betrayal and Nemik's death and manifesto, we're going to see something important pop up on Ferrix and all those things combined are the final push for Cassian to become a full blooded rebel. The Imperials are going to reek havoc and brutality on Ferrix and Cassian will probably catch word of it. I also think there is possibly something important on that Starpath unit and that Cassian, Luthen, and Vel are going to do some kind of operation there and start to form a rebel cell with Maarva, Bix, and Brasso. We have two more 3 episode arcs and I'm so pumped.

Vel may or may not have a "heights" thing. Regardless, she's got other worries, and they're all coming home to roost in that moment.
    1) This is her first mission as the leader...and as we can see...it's a HUGE job.
    2) She's probably already worried about the commitment of everyone involved, because she probably already suspects that some of them aren't on the level (such as Skeen, though she seemed to be completely fooled by him).
    3) Luthen's curveball of adding Cassian to that already sensitive balance right beforehand.
    4) Watching Cinta do her job in the mission, and probably deeply fearing losing her, if they've gotten especially close. (Which, I know they mentioned, but I've seen so little demonstration of it, that I'm not sure it's anything beyond the only two women in the group sticking together just to keep the men off them)
Vel has a lot to deal with, and that moment it all hit her at once. And when she finally steeled herself, she takes no shit from anyone.
