They are going to be fighting a Sith, seemingly, in a forest that is already considered to be dangerous. Then they are going to try to escape back to the Jedi Temple but are they going to be re-routed to a space station or a bigger ship and the Sith infiltrates as a stow-a-away and kills everyone? This series can really turn crazy if that's what happens and Leslye did say the show turns into something different half-way thru, right? or am I misremembering?

    Also if we want to get technical, Mae didn’t kill Torbin. Yes she gave him the poison but he made the choice to drink it. He killed himself. And not under duress either. So the only Jedi to fall by her hand was Indara and I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t actually die. Her and Vernestra could’ve faked it and used the murder to hunt down Mae. Just random thoughts.

      And as before, my guy, if you can’t defend that very silly statement, it renders you an immediate unserious person. I’ve yet to see you offer even a full-throated *attempt* at critiquing this (flawed, imperfect, but quite good overall so far) show. How about I start? I’m a fan of the show and Star Wars in general, but I can name some flaws in it. Ready?
      1. The pacing is inconsistent and occasionally too abrupt, like the ending of episode 1. Also, Smilo Ren’s dialogue at the end of episode 1 was a bit stilted and weird, but I’m willing to put a pin in that particular aspect for now in the hopes that the show will revisit that plot point and give those words greater meaning later.
      2. Master Torbin’s beard in episode 2 looked weird. Uncanny valley weird. In a show with such a good mix of practical and cgi affects on characters, I can’t help but wonder why they didn’t leave the beard off, and let the wig and facial scars/damage do most of the aging work on the character. Maybe digitally thicken the actor’s jowls and shoulders a little, things that happen to men as they age from young men to fully grown men, but mostly, I wish they would’ve foregone the beard and let the rest of the (pretty good) practical effects and digital scarring carry more of the aging load.
      3. Mae’s turn in ep 4 felt a little quick. Not egregiously so, but enough to be noticeable. Perhaps it would’ve landed better had they devoted more time to her internal conflict, but she’s only really been around Qimir, so it’s not like she had a good exposition vessel to whom she could confide any mounting doubts since seeing Osha at the end of ep 2. Qimir is clearly at least on the side of their master (if not the master himself, though I now think that’s a bit too obvious, he’s reading like a red herring character) and so would not have been a safe place for her to voice her mounting doubt.
      4. While Ki-Adi-Mundi’s age is not established in canon (actually, even Cerean lifespans are not established in canon) and as a result his appearance here works completely fine (and could even really be awesome, if they end up re-contextualizing his line in the prequel trilogy by having him be part of the cover up of the events in the acolyte from the ground floor), I still wish they’d used a different Cerean character. Or a different character altogether, since supposedly Cereans are kind of dying out and there aren’t that many of them. So, KAM’s presence is fine, I just wish they’d have chosen someone besides him. Unless they do end up taking the big swing and making him a part of the cover up of the events of this show - that would rule. A very bold swing, indeed.
      Okay. I’ve offered good faith criticisms. I’m being genuine when I say that I think the show is flawed, but still very good. Do you have a real good faith critique to offer?

    • @quiden75
      @quiden75 6 місяців тому +1

      I think Qimir is a massive misdirect.
      I watched Episode 3 a couple times, the second time paying close attention to Koril.
      Koril has odds with Mama over how the girls are raised. She is much more the disciplinarian than Mama and she opposes Osha testing out for the Jedi.
      Also, she carried the twins so she has a connection to them that Mama never had, even though they call her Mama and not Koril.
      There is a shot that lingers on Koril looking at the generator system that eventually explodes and she is the one that is most disillusioned by the Jedi and what they represent to the coven.
      She also is the one witch they made a point not to show using her powers. Also, the Sith is very thin and could easily be a woman.
      She would want revenge over the death of the coven and her partner, Mama. Osha being alive would do little to change her view of the Jedi and her belief that they must be erradicated.
      I also think she has been manipulating Mae this whole time because she was more controllable than Osha.
      Last piece of evidence, look who Mae stands next to when she receives the witch mark. It's Koril and they look like a Rule of 2.

    Sooooo… That powerful Force blast at the end was definitely the Power of Many version of the Force Push they showed in ep 3 right?
    The way the Sith floated in the air was also very witchy, and we know now that he was not giving tests to Mae, but « final lessons ».
    Add this to the markings on the face of the helmet being similar to those of Mother Koril + the official blog describing her as « the twins caretaker and a fierce warrior »…
    Mother Koril wanted to kill the Jedi, she was the last one to have a walk with Mae before she turned psycho murderer, and we didn’t see her amongst the corpses.
    It smells Mother Revenge
    For people saying it’s Qimir, it’s mathematically impossible. Mae says they have a couple of hours before the sun comes down and the sun comes down shortly after Mae trapped Qimir. Which means it took them hours to reach this part of the forest. How could Qimir go back to the ship to get his armor, go back further in the forest AND kill Kelnacca?
    That’s impossible. The only way is the Master being already there to supervise and Qimir warned him/her about Mae’s betrayal.

      I doubt it's Mother Koril solely on the fact that the Sith's helmet cannot fit her horns in it. The front of it is too smooth and rounded for her to properly fit in it unless she literally removed her horns.

    20:51 I know some are hating this change of events, but what brought us here? The conundrum of killing a Jedi without a weapon. Mae backing out of the deal real or not will Force someone else to do the deed, no? Qimir would also be blamed for shortcomings--"Don't tell the master, will you, this won't bode well for the both of us," or something along those lines is what Mae said to Qimir when she had him make her the poison.
    This episode is really making it look like Qimir is the Sith Lord, but Mae's conversation with him makes me believe that she has seen both Qimir and their master together. Still, Qimir reminds me A LOT of Palpatine acting defenseless on Grievous ship while being saved by both Anakin and Obi-Wan.

    25:33 Look at the 30:42 mark of the episode (The Guest Stars in the end credits). It says Master Ki-Adi-Mundi in it. Star Wars Theory made a MASSIVE fuss about it, due to how long before The Phantom Menace this show takes place, and due to Ki-Adi Mundi's original Birthdate (93 BBY) being after the timeline of this show. Also, Wookieepedia changed Ki-Adi Mundi's birthdate to "Prior to 132 BBY" after this episode aired.

    This masked apprentice isn't truly a master, the real master is yet to be unveiled. The one detail I've caught is the sun already setfast the moment we got Kelnacca's body shot.

    I'm seeing the synchronicity of 2024 Star Wars in this episode. First, in this episode we have the live-action debut of the alien species that was introduced in an episode of Bad Batch season 3: the white cat-like creature that was abducted by Cad Bane for Hemlock's experiments. Secondly, the emphasis on the fact that Jedi don't believe in attacking an unarmed person. The High Inquisitor's first lesson to corrupt Bariss Offee was to make her attack him even though he was unarmed. He had to convince her. This is absolutely, in my opinion, intentional by the Lucasfilm Story Group.

    I am 100% convinced this show is re-contextualizing The Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith, that Qimir is actually a new canon reboot of Plagueis, that he is trying to find out how Mae and Osha were conceived so that the Sith can create their perfect acolyte (Anakin, eventually) and that Palpatine's little talk with Anakin at the opera house is not just him manipulating Anakin for his own immediate ends toward fulfilling the Sith master plan but also testing to see if Anakin knows what really went down 100 years ago and thus what he is (he doesn't). Qimir is just way too manipulative, clearly desperate to retain control over Mae, if he can't have her he'll take Osha, though he probably wants them both. Smiley is obviously insanely powerful and if Qimir = Smiley is right, it all falls into place. Plus PLAGUEIS, and the dude is all about potions and stuff? Dude is a straight-up warlock in the classical sense, a male witch.
    I love it :)

    It’s more like a murder mystery style show in the galaxy of Star Wars. I always look forward to hearing Kyle and Bendu’s input! Fair criticisms, fun points, pointing fun little Easter eggs or other lore tie ins, whether direct or nods from previous titles.
    No storytelling is perfect, but it’s nice to have a few creators that don’t jump the hate train and give things a chance.

  • @TheTyper
    @TheTyper 6 місяців тому +1

    So, two things. 1) I think we're going to experience a story-structure invert now that we're half way through. Next episode, clearly, "Night", which will do the twists and reveals of who is who as a cliffhanger maybe but with some lingering questions, leading us to the episode after that with another solo title that'll look into Mae's version of the story. Last two episodes will have dual names again and tie up the remaining story.
    2) I think the thing with "is it Qimir or Mother Koril?" is that *that's* the mystery for now but ultimately at this juncture, you feel you have all the PHILOSOPHICAL board pieces in place. I think Leslye's big "Kreia" inspiration is the character of a Sith similar to that of Palpatine on a philosophical level: A villain whose means are to deny your inner power and instead find victory through other means, rejecting the overt power (Qimir and Mae even briefly talked about the Sith Code, which means the Master has probably taught Mae the Code of the Sith, and that was a sort of commentary on power and victory). Qimir or not, Qimir seems to get that the lesson the Master is trying to teach Mae is that whatever power she wields is her greatest weakness, just like any Jedi that leans too much on sabers and the Force, without access to those things, suddenly the Jedi are weaker than most people out there, having honed no abilities or skills outside those. I think at the root of it, the Master's goal is to destabilize the look of the Jedi in this era in the whole "You can make God bleed" thing. I think at first the Master is training Mae to become stronger than the Jedi by not needing those tools, but that also will prepare Mae to use the *truth* of whatever happened that day to crumble this current Jedi Order. There's already ideas at play here about Osha's anger towards Mae being something she hasn't confronted and overcome. With Mae realizing she doesn't need to *be* evil because she can have her sister again (and if we're being honest, Mae's resolve was always stronger than Osha's), what's stopping the Master from turning his attention towards Osha instead? Episodes three and four are toying with perspective and the proximity and blurring of what light and dark is in terms of personality and ideology. How far removed from the light is Mae? How far removed from the dark is Osha? Whoever the Master is, I feel like these truths and ideologies are going to show their hand in the next episode and the real takeaway will less be the mystery and more about what this show says about these philosophies at play. Palpatine's philosophy was the long con, power through politics to overcome a problem of numbers. Kreia's was one of manipulation, the rejection of the Force as something that plays with destiny and the abandonment of both factions (but when the chips are down, she was Dark), what will the Master's stance be?

    I have come to the realization of what the "Master" wants... It goes back to his first line "An Acolyte kxlls the Dream..." The Master wants not to have the "Dark-Side Bastardization" of the Force, but rather the Antithiesis(sp?) of the Force. Think of how each Jedi Master died... Master Indara had the Absence of Defense. Master Torbin had the Absence of Faith. I believe we will see that Kelnaaca died from an Abscence of Honor(Notice no signs of Struggle in his home... What kind of Wookie LETS HIMSELF Be Lightsabered?) I believe that as @ShaunSum49 States, the "Master" is the Acolyte and that he wants Sol to dxe in the Absence of Love.(which is NOT Hate, but rather Uncaring, & Unfeeling). Creating everything that the Force is NOT. Creating a "Borg-Like" Mentality(Pardon the use of the term), where everything is doing the tasks, there is ABOLUTELY NOTHING BEYOND THAT.(No Faith(Light or Dark Side Force), No Love, No Honor, & No Defense of Oneself or Others). Literally Erasing the tenets of What Everyone believes and holds true whether Light, Dark, Grey Or Something Else. This is the "SHIFT" Master Vernestra is talking about...

    Last week, everyone thought Koril was a Sith. This week, everyone thinks Qimir is a Sith. Why not both? I suspect Koril is "Darth Teeth", while Qimir is Koril's master (possibly Apprentice to Tenebrous, or maybe the Sith Master himself).
    But I really like the idea that Koril is "Darth Teeth", because it could explain why Ki-Adi-Mundi is so sure Qui-Gon's red light saber Zabrak isn't a Sith Lord.
    Suppose the Jedi defeat "Darth Teeth", and they find out it's Koril. Well, they know Koril is a witch (not a Sith, or so they think).
    Then, when Qui-Gon reports of another Zabrak wielding a red light saber, Ki-Adi-Mundi would be like, "Okay, but that doesn't mean he's a Sith Lord."

    • @IsaacKuo
      @IsaacKuo 6 місяців тому +1

      Another possible clue pointing toward Koril ... It looks like Kelnacca didn't struggle, similar to how Torbin didn't struggle. And it looks like Kelnacca wasn't mentally well, based on all those twin spiral symbols everywhere. It's plausible Kelnacca was as wracked by guilt as Torbin.
      So, imagine Koril appears before him, not wearing a helmet. It's like how Mae confronted Torbin, right? Maybe Kelnacca just lets Koril kill him. Or maybe he commits suicide in front of her as penance.

    Becoming brick when you die… you become a part of the fabric of the community - epic world building
    The Acolyte is rooted in the mystic - it’s ethereal, hidden, and discombobulating. Star Wars isn’t just about the flashy space ships and robots
    Star Wars is about samurai space wizards and far out cultures way beyond our own
    Star Wars is a dyad of technology and mind
    Think of the contrast between Vader and Palpatine on the Death Star (surrounded by technology)
    And Yoda on his jungle planet devoid of technology or Kenobi on his desert planet that still had life and technology was limited

    I like the helmet of The Master a lot more in closeup than I originally did. It looks rusted and old, and amateurly constructed, kind of like a medieval relic. Before when we first saw it in the trailer I thought it just looked like a jagged up and down teeth monster mouth was drawn on, RAWR! lol. But it looks like the teeth are actually piping. I wasn't really thinking it much before, but I absolutely do think Q-name dude that I can never remember is him now.
    Kellnacca dying before we got a chance to know him is the only part of the show so far that I'm disappointed in. I'd be cool with him dying, but I wanted to see how HE felt about what happened with Osha and Mae first. Just have some time to BOND with him!
