You only use Teflon tape on pipe threads. Those are tapered threads that seal against each other as you tighten them. Whenever you see a fitting that is loose from the hose like that and turns independently that's not a pipe thread. The seal will be between the two fittings and not the threads themselves.
Thanks Jim. We love RVing, so this is just a new challenge for the day. Plus, it gives us something to do as a family. LOL. Some people go fishing and we spend the day in the basement with water leaks. 😀 Best, Pam
I cannot tell you how impressed I am with the attitude you BOTH have with all your challenges! My reactions would have been SO much different! We look forward to following your adventures as you continue to experience and learn from your travels! Hang in there!
I'm sure you have it fixed by now, but, that flexible hose it the bane of RVs. If plumbing is going to leak, that is the stuff that does it. Where possible replace it with PEX. I know it is sometimes hard to align everything since PEX isn't flexible. PEX and it's fittings just hold up to the rigors of RV motion.
Just started watching your channel last evening. I can’t believe you are still waiting for Dexter. That’s a long wait. You wouldn’t want to be in Michigan now with Winter being in full force. 🥶
We actually started the Warranty Repair process with Dexter and from start to finish, it took 2 months. We are happy that we were able to spend so much time in the area. Normally, we would have stayed a few days and left. The U.P. is full of wonders and incredible people. Like you said, at least it was during the summer and not the winter! 😀
Feel your pain! I now have a handful of fittings, band straps, a pex tube cutter, and a pex crimping tool. Not only did that all cost money, but now I have a 50# tool bag “just in case” the next event happens. LOL Eventually you do have enough stuff to be an electrician, plumber, and general all around “fix it” guy. Love your attitude though… you have to try to find the humor in all of it. P.S. I would have dumped the diesel back in your tank.
So true, we all WILL have a rv water leak eventually. I think you should have bought that can of plumbing goop as you call it. That adhesive should have worked for your hot water pipe fitting. Just smile and drive on. Life has those funny obstacles we will accomplish. Hope we can all cross paths one day my friend 🤝
If you get diesel on your hands, use Dawn Dishwashing Liquid. It gets rid of the diesel and most of the smell. We use that a lot in the oilfield when using oil-base mud or oil invert muds as drilling fluids. It works.
You two remind me of my wife and I! And the man in this is like me after my own heart! He’s cracking me up because I would have said some of the things he’s saying in this episode !
Its the little cone washer inside the fitting thats leaking. That's why the thread sealer didn't work. You can get a nice pex repair kit on Amazon for $30. It includes a pex cutter, clamping tool, extra pex clamps and its in a zip up carrying case. If you get one of them you'll never have any pex leaks again!
Mr. What do you do for an occupation? I am curious. We are Harvest Host host. Your rig is much too big to get down where we usually park the rigs. I just love watching ya’ll. “ BROMARK FARMS” Miss. Pam, you are a good sport. Lee your blessed. We will soon be out there on the road. We restored a 1969 Holiday Rambler 27’ travel trailer.
Congratulations on restoring your RV and getting ready to hit the road. We have saved your farm and will let you know when we pass through. We are now traveling in a Class-C. Much smaller. 😀. I work in Aviation. Pam has the biggest grin right now and says Thank you. You guys are awesome and thanks for the great support. Best, Pam & Lee
Remember pulling in our space after being out saw water running out of RV the water heater had got a hole in it. So had to replace the whole thing but luckily the water was confined to space under it also the good thing about basement models.
Yup when it rains it pours 😢. There are a new thing called a push pull fitting for plumbing they work great. Hope this helps down the road 😊. Hope the rest of your stay in the north was better 🤩. Thanks From Wisconsin
Hi, I know you probably fix this problem by now but it is the check valve that needs to be replaced. We had the same problem and we change the check valve to a brass check valve. Two to my knowledge we don’t have an anode rod it’s just a regular plug because it supposed to be the new water heater so I am very shocked if you have that. But great video great watching another 377 and it is great to be parked next to our RV store.
LOL. You are 100% correct. We have the same Hot Water Heater. We didn't realize that it doesn't need one until after this video. We like to show ALL of our mistakes. Great catch! In a few videos from now you will see us having more issues with that water heater. Ugh. Best, Lee & Pam
At least your fittings that are leaking are fairly easy to reach. We were at Crested Butte Co. when I had a leak in the plumbing under our refrigerator. There is very little room to work in that $#% @$# space. I needed joints in my arms to bend in unnatural ways to fix that leak. I was sore for a week after doing that work. When I got home, I completely relocated those components(water pump and associated fittings) to a place that was easier to get to. I try to anticipate what tools, parts, and fittings I might need before we go on a trip, but you can't think of everything.
Good thing it was summer and flip-flop weather. The mosquitoes were relentless. Sorry that happened to you guys as well. Thanks for sharing. Best, Pam & Lee
Sorry for the time you spent on the fuel issue. As you know we RVers have a checklist when hooking up and tearing down, maybe Ford should teach their techs that , if you unplug it then plug it in , this was not Jiffy Lube this is a Ford dealer hiring J L techs. Thank you for the videos.
Great information, thank you for sharing As I learn a lot from you guys You can buy all of it at the hardware store I have ordered it all from Amazon But when your short on time?
Regarding Keeping your feet dry when stuff like this happens, I bought on Amazon heavy duty waterproof shoe covers. That way I don't have to keep boots inside my rig. They are also helpful for keeping feet clean at a "dirty" dump sites
Was that the way the factory clamped it on, using a pex clamp for a hose connection? That's crazy to see. It should have been a simple hose clamp that you use a screwdriver to tighten. You guys have an amazing calm patience dealing with issues. You are a great inspiration to follow.
Thank you! You know, reading your comment makes us wonder why we didn’t just go get a $0.50 hose clamp instead of buying a $50.00 pex clip crimp tool. LOL. We are the worst plumbers ever. We have a saying about RVing: “you’ve waited a long time to make the mistakes you’re about to make”. Enjoy the challenges and learn from them. Working together as a family makes the best memories.
You water fuel issue was why I went away from Ford, I did the same thing and just took my truck into maintenance and the mechanic did not hook up the connection. I went to GMC and never looked back, 2 times they mechanic did this. I got a great truck now
The system was drained when they did the filter replaement. On a diesel if it was t air purged the engine would have sht off After filter rplacement it a 10x cycle alowing the fuel pump to run. Thinking it was proabably a senor malfunction
I have read in some post that the fitting that is in the tank cracks and they replace it with brass fittings. Not sure if you have the same problem but you might want to check there. Good luck
Thanks Robert! We have been looking at that option really closely recently. Since this video, our water heater has broken 2 more times. It’s funny and painful at the same time. LOL. All the best, Pam & Lee
That check valve and elbow has been an issue on so many brands and models. Hopefully, someone convinced you to replace the elbow and check valve with brass fittings since this is from months ago. I have had a dealer leave the water sensor harness off, not sure why they forget, lazy and lack of double checking I guess. Usually if you get a real warning you only need a few ounces, not a half gallo, the water settles on the bottom of the separator.
You are more stubborn than me. 😂😂 I would have been right back at Ford having them fix it since I just dropped some serious money for them to work on it anyway
Deep dark depression a pheasant misery who despair and agony on you sounds like a Hee-Haw kind of day nothing but bad luck hope it gets better safe travels from Rick and Pam from southern Ohio
Ugh. I always mark my tires when I get my Jeep serviced and ask the dealership to rotate the tires. More than half the time they don’t do it. Last time we went back in and politely asked them to do it and the ‘mechanic’ walked in and threw the key fob at us. Tried to call Chrysler to open a STAR case on parts we ordered six months ago…we’ve done this before and got taken care of. This time they just said ‘Oh the dealership won’t call us back. Sorry.’ I can’t imagine trying to travel full time with the way things are currently. You can’t get anything fixed or ordered and everything breaks. Hot mess.
I would have never left the dealership! I would have walked right back into the shop and had them come out and check it out! I’ve had issues similar to that throughout the years and I would go right back inside and they would come out or bring it back in and they apologized, fixed it, NO CHARGE!
good you can work through things...but camping world... here in ca they charge almost twice the price of everyone else. only good i say about them is they are over 100 miles from here.
Saw our site in the background. We’re on 91 in June. Hoping it’s drier then. What was the final fix? I’d be replacing those plastic check valves for copper ones before u really end up in a mess.
You know this water problem happened to us, we were camping for Halloween and then we saw water in our mid bunk, we went outside to find water gushing out of the bottem luckily we fixed it easily, it was just a hose that came undone.
It's a good thing that you know how to fix things, the reason why I ask is we just bought a 2023 North Point 310RLTS a couple weeks ago and I'm aware that you will have problems with any of them, safe travels.
Hi Paul! Thanks, your comment made us smile. We have plenty of sockets, just not that one. 😀 Also, we can’t hold the title of “worst plumbers in RV history” if we actually knew the difference between Teflon and silicone tape. RVing is a crash course of learning many different trades all at once. Hey, if we don’t see water all over the place, we’re good for now. LOL. Thanks for the great tip! Best, Lee
Probably left it unplugged to get you back in to charge you for a problem that you didn't even have....I'm not the complaint type of person but those guys need to hear some.
I have been watching a lot of 5th wheel videos it appears that they are all pieces of crap all the different brands are just falling apart one I saw even had the back wall literally start coming apart I mean there was 3-inch gap at the back corner, then their water tank started leaking and then their slides quit working one was the controller the other the teeth striped off the rail. they are big beautiful and impressive campers, but they are structurally crap. oh, really nice truck!
Sorry you had all the water problems! Your positive attitude and humor is why I love watching your videos, thanks guys!

Thanks Jim. We love RVing, so this is just a new challenge for the day. Plus, it gives us something to do as a family. LOL. Some people go fishing and we spend the day in the basement with water leaks. 😀 Best, Pam
Pam & Lee, you guys are like fam! Lov Pam's laugh & you Lee your pure delight, guys have a wonderful outlook to life, God bless!

DB RV thx for an informative and entertaining video of your travels and experiences. Thougit y'all were in FL LOL Happy Camping

Dam Lee I gust through it was me that has the bad luck, it has Rubber in the end of it . On your truck I seen a video a guy had the same thing 👍👍
The Water Heater Anode Rod needs to be changed every year and flush out the heater tank
Yup when it rains it pours 😢. There are a new thing called a push pull fitting for plumbing they work great. Hope this helps down the road 😊. Hope the rest of your stay in the north was better 🤩. Thanks From Wisconsin

Lee, next time you run into a fitting issue, you can use SharkBite (Home Depot) or Piranha fittings (Lowe's) on pex pipe.
The system was drained when they did the filter replaement. On a diesel if it was t air purged the engine would have sht off After filter rplacement it a 10x cycle alowing the fuel pump to run. Thinking it was proabably a senor malfunction

You should not have any water in your resivour. Because they took it off when they replaced the filter. Or did they?
wright, I was thinking the same thing. If they changed the fuel filter why is there water?
Yay, this posting more episodes a week thing has officially been official 😂
Time to replace that water heater with an instant on, you won’t regret it
Thanks Robert! We have been looking at that option really closely recently. Since this video, our water heater has broken 2 more times. It’s funny and painful at the same time. LOL. All the best, Pam & Lee
I know you said it’s just a slow drip. Do you have the water pump on to see if it is/was spraying?
You should buy pressure relief valve for a spare they go bad every so often oh also get goop
You should just add pontoons, that would make it easier to move the rig and Maximus
That check valve and elbow has been an issue on so many brands and models. Hopefully, someone convinced you to replace the elbow and check valve with brass fittings since this is from months ago.

It didn’t. We took the truck in for a fuel filter change and the connector was never reattached after servicing. We just didn’t know that at the time.

It was hard to hit the like button on this video. Sorry you had to deal with all that stuff.

Maybe next time wear a rubber glove when draining your diesel or at least have a can of GOJO around .
Well that explains that. Poor service 🤨
Exactly! Poor service at a premium price.
That's a manly man smell. Hate it but love my diesal.

Having the right tool at the right time when you need it is a lifelong challenge. Especially when you’re RVing. LOL.
