Beets don’t dye red, but some tips for a better color.
    1. Chop them smaller.
    2. Simmer the beets until the water is very red.
    3. Presoak the fabric in one part vinegar and four parts water, not plain water.
    4. Soak in the dye bath until the color is much deeper than your desired shade.-several hours to overnight.
A general tip: don’t bunch the cords into cakes. Instead, wind them into large, loose loops and secure loosely in a few spots with cord or string. Tie then only tight enough to keep them from tangling. Do this before presoaking and keep them that way during dyeing.
It doesn’t look as nice, but they will be evenly saturated, to the core of the fiber, in all spots.

Thanks for the tutorials ❤️ In order to get a red natural dye from beets you need to use fresh beets. You have to cook them with the peel, root end and about an inch of the stem still intact. If you peel and cut the ends off all the red will bleed out of them. I’ve been able to get all different shades using beets from pink to an almost purple 😊

Thanks for the video. You didn't do anything wrong in terms the beetroot. Beats don't give a red dye for some reason I don't know why. About a year ago I did a huge, huge batch of beets. I don't think I even got a beige color from it.
In terms of the onion skin, depending upon your water pH, the red and the yellow onion skin separated, will give different colors. The yellow onion skins can give a very bright yellow. Sometimes the Red Onion skins will give more of a Dusky purpley, kinda deep lavender color. Have fun experimenting! Kool-Aid is fun to dye with as well. But I don't know how it works on cotton. It works really well on wool.

Love these techniques! Thanks for sharing. I wonder what red cabbage would turn out like or turmeric 🤔 Also, not sure it would work the same due to rising the cord once sat in the dye BUT, I've died noodles with red cabbage before and then squeezed lemon juice in different areas and I ended up with shades of purple, pink and blue 😉

@@Bochiknot well I'm literally only just getting started with macramé so not sure I'm confident enough to start dying my own cord 'just yet' lol! But will definitely let you know when I do. Another one I thought of though was different tea's 🤔....

I purchased a number of rolls of cord for a project. I thought they were white, but when I received them they were natural. Is there a way to dye them white???

Yes you could try bleaching them or using RIT dye. I have not tried this though, so let me know how it goes!
