Fabulous tutorial, thank you for showing every stage of the process I now feel this is something I can do. Your videos are so, detailed, easy to follow and full of inspiration 👍🙌🫶. I did wince when you were lifting the dye baths out of the sink. Thank you for taking the time to share xx
I dye a lot of yarn, when I Ombré dye I keep the un dyed yarn out of the bowl and dye in reverse. It’s much easier as I lower the undyed yarn in to the dye rather than keep taking more out at intervals to achieve ombré dying. It’s a much cleaner and easier process. So the first bit goes in then ten mins later a bit more and so on etc. So the first bit has been in there the longest and will have the deepest colour. The it all comes out at once. Much cleaner and easier process.. lovely colours and another nice video to watch. Thank you. And hope your arm is okay.. craft related injuries !!
Yes,of course. That would be the proper way to do the Ombré. It was an after thought while I was doing the video. Lol. I was sore for awhile. Just moved the wrong way. Silly me.
Thank you so much for showing this method. I had bought some dye but put off using it on my rope. I plan on making some table place mats, blue, white and yellow to coordinate with my dishes.
This is inspirational and amazing to watch the colors emerge. I really appreciate how you took the time to go through the entire process, and all the tips. Simple, no special equipment. I have wanted to try these bowls, with color but the wrapping did not appeal to me. I prefer the clean look of the cord. The dye is Brilliant and something I will try. So thank you.
thank you very much - I needed to dye a bunch of macrame cord and have little experience with dying in general. Watching your video made me feel confident that I could give it a try and I'm so happy to say that it was easy-peasy following your video, and now I've got the perfect product!
I watched your video and dyed my rope as we were going over the process together. I now have an ombre pink for a bag andI am super excited.... Thanks for a great video!
Thanks for a great video! I'm just beginning to get into rope bowls and baskets and your video has been the best one that I've watched. I want to do embroidery on the bottoms and these colors would really make them POP. Thank you also for the explanation of Ombre. I didn't know you could do that. This was time well spent.
thank you for this video your the top google turn up im dyeing rope for shibari adn info for this is at such a lowe so very thankful im useing a nylon atm and yes i am using sythedic dyes please keep posting when yopu dye so we can learn dos and donts
:) I am about to go dye my macrame plant wall hangings right after this! Great info in your video. One of my macrame plant hangers that I made is all finished with wooden dowels in it, not just cotton rope. I am going to test it, and put the whole thing inside the dye. Guess it might dye the wood black but oh well... praying it comes out pretty! Very informative video, thank you!!!!
Love love love your videos. Really sorry you hurt your arm. Go easy Patti. Strange. I watching you pull the tubs out of the sink and I thought to myself...geez if I did that I’d hurt myself. Little did I know that you did just that. Rest that arm.❤️
Lady, you rock! I am loving your videos and have started making rope bowls! I’m 80 so never too old to start a new craft! Thanks for your inspiration! >^.^
Fun to watch but so sorry you hurt your arm! Lifting those heavy tubs I’ll bet! 😥. The dying is quite the process. Wow. Not sure I can do your process, but your vid has sparked some ideas on how I might color my rope. Thanks so much. Quick healing to you! 💕
I actually did make a few things with this rope and published a video on it. I had Easter in mind when I chose the colours. Here’s the link to the video ua-cam.com/video/9CjmP0EOAPs/v-deo.html
I enjoy watching your videos, your explanations are perfect! My I ask where you purchased or what size are the plastic containers you use to dye to rope?
Love this video thank you i have one question...are you dying 2 bundles of rope at 100 ft or is that 2 50 ft lenght?? Thank you again so helpful video❤
Such a great tutorial, to the minor details. Thank you! The colours came out beautifully and the ombre just gorgeous! You mention cord and rope. What is the difference, their width? Wishing your arm rapid recovery!
I like to use 1/4” rope for the rope bowls. I mentioned cord for if you want to dye Macrame cord in any size that you want. Thanks for the best wishes. I am so upset that I can’t make the Easter basket. Hopefully in a few days.
Hi Patti! Thank you so much for your videos ❤️❤️❤️! I was wondering if you ever made the bowls from your dyed sash cord? I would love to see the end product.
Yes, I sure did. Because of the spring colours I made a bunch of Easter items. This is what I made. Here’s the link to the video. ua-cam.com/video/9CjmP0EOAPs/v-deo.html
This is amazing! Thank you for the tutorial. I’ve got almost all my supplies gathered and I’m ready to try it. I did want to ask you...the macrame cord that you weighed (not the rope) where you said it weighed about a pound..what is the size do the rope? It looks to be 3mm but just wanted to check. Thanks again.
I tried coloring my twisted cotton rope, but its hard got get the dye all the way through, when i cut the rope its still have white part inside. I hope you can help me 🥰
I dyed cotton rope in this video and it was fine. But saying that, some of my rope has a synthetic core. The synthetic core will not dye. If that’s not the case then I’m thinking leave it in the dye bath longer or use more concentrated dye bath solution or the dye bath was not hot enough. Just wondering, is there a reason you need the inside of the rope perfectly coloured as well? Is the outside of the rope a solid colour?
If you are using the Rit dye for T-shirt’s and clothing that are being washed a lot then it will fade. If your doing the rope bowls which are not being washed hardly at all then the color should hold up for a long time. If they are sitting in direct sunlight than you may get some fading.
Yes for sure. I keep all my dying and craft tools for that use only. We don’t want to contaminate it and then use for food. Thank you for the comment for all viewers to read.

You are so welcome! Yes, you are right. I should have removed some liquid so it wasn’t so heavy to lift.

The dye takes a bit of time but once it’s done it’s so much easier to whip up some nice baskets. Have fun!

Thank you for sharing, I watch alot of your videos.
Ahhh thanks! So glad you are enjoying my videos! Appreciate your support!
WONDERFUL VIDEO!! Have you ever tried dying sisal rope??
I haven’t but if it’s a natural fibre it should accept the dye.
Thank you so much for this video!!!! It was really helpful! I just didn’t understand what’s the soap for?
You need to pre wash your rope in case there is an sizing or a protective barrier that will not allow the dye to penetrate.
Fun to watch but so sorry you hurt your arm! Lifting those heavy tubs I’ll bet! 😥.

My I ask where you purchased or what size are the plastic containers you use to dye to rope?
Just bought cheap bins from the dollar store. They are about 12” wide by 16” long and 6” high.
This is a great tutorial!! Thank you 🙏
Your very welcome!
This came out beautiful!
It was a fun process!
Love this, never thought about dying rope. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you so much!! Really informative!!
Wonderful video many thanks 😊. May I dye jute rope?
Any natural fibre should hold the dye.
@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts thank you so much

Wow! Such excellent work and beautiful colors!! Thanks so much for the tutorial!
Can this be done with an already made macrame? Take the dowel rod off and soak the entire braided and knotted macrame?
Thanks
Yes, it sure can!

How do you suggest I dry mine? I live in a condo with no clothes line
Do you have a clothes drying rack that you could use.
@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts I ended up making a clothesline on my patio! It came out so beautiful thanks for the tutorial
Perfect. Glad you had great success!
How long did it take to dry all that?
Not long. It was warm out so just let it hang outside for the day.
Super
Your welcome!
Have you ever tried dying a bowl after you’ve made it?
I have not. But it would work really well! Especially to do ombré.
Fab!!
Thanks!
I’m surprise you don’t own a swift. 🙂
Haha. I’m surprised too. I have a craft room full of supplies. They are very handy. Especially if you have a yarn winder to make the cakes.
Does the color fade over time?
If you are using the Rit dye for T-shirt’s and clothing that are being washed a lot then it will fade. If your doing the rope bowls which are not being washed hardly at all then the color should hold up for a long time. If they are sitting in direct sunlight than you may get some fading.

Thanks for your comment.
Any food utensils, like your tongs should never be use for food again.
Yes for sure. I keep all my dying and craft tools for that use only. We don’t want to contaminate it and then use for food. Thank you for the comment for all viewers to read.
I know, it is hard to waste dye!!!
I do so many different crafts I knew it would be a while before I got back to dying.
