I always love meeting my sourdough family members! Thanks so much for replying and for watching! And thank you for your kind words. Blessings on you as you preserve for this challenge.
Sourdough, store bought fruit and vegetables and meats count if you preserve it yourself. If you can’t preserve things this year then buy something canned and or frozen preserved from the store to stock up your pantry for winter.
👋🏾I was going to say that dehydrated cantaloupe and honeydew melons are both good. I know that many people don't really like honeydew melon for some reason.🤔 But dehydrated they tastes like candy. They are such a delightful treat.😋
Hello! Yes, it seems people either like the two of them or hate them…no in between. But yes, they do taste like candy dehydrated. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching! 😁
Absolutely, sourdough should be included if you're preserving something from it. Awesome job putting up all you did in a week! New subscriber here - enjoyed your video.
Hello and welcome! I appreciate your viewing and your comment. Thanks so much for your encouraging words! I have a few more things to add for next week. Can’t wait to share!
I've never taken everything out and looked at a weeks worth of 'put up' stuff. I'm already so proud of myself for what I do and I think it would give me a good moral boost for that time well spent. I've put up seeds from plants i my garden, I've put up pie dough from flour I bought, I put up overload of pancakes so I can stick them in the toaster later. I think sourdough starter is an excellent thing to use and then store for later. I'm going to try SD Naan tomorrow. I let my starter sit on the back porch today and was shocked at how it grew. Usually, in my cold house, it would be a 2 day thing but this was amazing. Even though I'm watering all my plants twice a day since they droop if I don't, the heat is overwhelming and I should have tried my SD on the porch - at least now I know.. Congrats on that table laden with goodness and my heart filled with inspiration! Thank you for sharing.
Mary, I am proud of what all you have done also! You are so amazing. I am so sorry that the heat is so hard on your garden and your ability to go outside right now. I hate that for you. I know you love to go and do. I bet the sourdough went berserk! That naan sounds delicious! Let me know how it turned out. Thank you so much for your kind words, and you are always an inspiration to me! Love you friend! Blessings of coolness through this heat!
I love my canner like yours! I've had it about 2 years now and I use it all the time. Today's project is pressure canning broth then water canning garlic and pickles!
Just discovered your channel. You're a pleasure to watch. So far I've prepared chicken stock, canned pickles and refrigerator pickles, Mexican corn and one quart of tomato sauce which has already been eaten😊. Don't you just love those electric canners? This week I want to make salsa, cherry Garcia ice cream, freeze a bag of tomatoes and harvest my very first batch of elderberries.
It is so good to have you! Thank you for your kind words! It sounds like you have been one busy lady for sure. All of that sounds so amazing! What is in your Mexican corn? That sounds very intriguing. I love the idea of preserving and making ice cream. I never thought of that one. I’m so excited for you for getting to harvest your first batch of elderberries! That is so exciting. I need to go out and check mine to see if I have more ready. Mine have been ripening in waves. We had a really bad rain storm this morning so I hope it didn’t knock all the ripe ones off. Blessings on all of your wonderful canning and preserving this next week! So good to meet you!
Hi Julie, thanks for stopping by! I hope you like your canner as much as I do mine. I have used it quite a bit for the second week of the EveryBitCounts challenge and can’t wait to share what I’ve been doing. Thanks so much for your comment and for watching my video. Blessings to you!
Hey sweet lady. I haven't been by your channel in awhile. Gotta play catch-up now, ha! Looks like you are doing well, that's GREAT! I love this challenge, and look forward to your videos! A fun thing to do is to sprinkle ginger powder on the canteloupe... OOORRRR a special treat is to first cover them in powdered sugar!
Hello sweet friend! Totally understand the being busy and having to play catch-up! Sitting down and watching UA-cam videos is a treat at this point instead of just my usual. Another reason to look forward to fall. 😁 The sprinkle of ginger sounds delicious! I will definitely try that. Thanks so much for taking time out of your busy life to watch my video and for your kind words, and great idea! Blessings friend! ❤️
Oh, Julie… Girl, there is so much sourdogh you just can’t even imagine! Anything that is a bread type item I use sourdough for. Some of my favorites are sourdough biscuits, waffles, tortillas, pizza crust, bagels, and soon I want to try sourdough noodles. I hope that you fall in love with sourdough like I have! I have several sourdough videos on my channel. Here is the link to the playlist…ua-cam.com/play/PLeEQXFboDRI1dGJwFBkpOXEDOabxzy0jp.html. Enjoy!
Betty, you hang in there girl, I’m sure you’ll have plenty of time to do all the processing you want to do. Blessings on the rest of your produce coming in quickly!
Good question! I do not reuse my pressure caned lids but have been known to reuse water bath canned on water bath canned items. If the lid got messed up when removing of course those go in the trash. I figure if I’m gonna go to the trouble to pressure can I want to make sure the seals are gonna work. Hope this helps!
Welcome Ginny, No laughing or judgement EVER! You can’t learn if you don’t ask…I would probably get some glass or plastic containers with lids that seal and use those. You could also use canning jars, you just have to remember to leave about 2 inches of headroom, because as it freezes, it will grow. I have had to freeze some quarts of soup that did not seal when I canned then. They are doing just fine in their quart jars. Of course, there is always freezer bags. Just pour it in a freezer bag and seal it up. You can lay them flat on a cookie sheet in the freezer and then after they freeze, you can stack them up nicely to take up less space. Hope this helps! 😁
@@OpenHandFarmI was thinking; I love creamy cucumber dressing. It won’t last long in the fridge so I will make a dressing mix with the cucumber powder. Thanks so much for the idea as I have never heard of doing that!
This is my first video of yours. I have a question...why not just can your elderberry? Thawing then dehydrating just to rehydrate them for juice makes absolutely no sense to me.
Hi Shannon, sometimes life just throws me curves and I can’t do what I wanna do. My son and his family just moved in a couple weeks ago and I couldn’t get to my dehydrator but I didn’t want my berries to go bad. Because my berries were coming in at different times I wanted to make sure I had all of them before I started making juice. So the only solution to that would be to freeze them first. I don’t really like freezing them. I’d rather dehydrate them and let them sit on the shelf until I need them because I don’t really have freezer space. I only had to freeze one bundle. The rest I’ve been able to dehydrate because I brought my dehydrator upstairs. So dehydrate until I am ready to use them. I make a couple different types of things with them and this way I can pick and choose when and how to use them. That was such a great question though! Sometimes things in my life just don’t make sense. I just go with the flow and make it work the best I can. Thanks so much for watching and I hope you come back and visit again! 😁
Yes please include the sourdough discard items in this challenge. I know I am. Love what you are doing each day!

Thanks Tom! I totally agree! If you can’t preserve definitely stock up however you can! Blessings!
Sourdough is absolutely preserving!
Thanks so much Donna!!!! I appreciate it! ❤️

Yes I want to try sour dough in the fall. The more ways to use the better. Never even knew there was such a thing as sour dough pie crust.

Ok I'm new to canning so please don't laugh at me lol, I was wondering what is the easiest way to freeze home made soups?
