#threeriverschallenge Week 3 2025 | Pantry Challenge | No Spend January
Переглядів 60812 годин тому
Oh my, this was a full week of cooking and using items in my pantry. I have been trying to use the oldest items first. Two of the recipes used spinach because I know it will go bad if I don't get it used. Frozen spinach could probably be used as well. I made it through this week even with the flu symptoms I am having. Next week might be a little slim at the start but I'll hopefully catch up whe...
Sourdough Banana Bread...or Zucchini, or Apple, It Is So Versatile!

This bread is a go to when it comes to my ladies coffees, or to have fresh out of the oven when the grandkids are coming and they will need breakfast. We all love it. We love it as Banana Bread (just like the recipe), as Zucchini Bread (with shredded zucchini and added cinnamon, cloves and allspice), as well as Apple Bread (with canned apples and apple pie spice). Are you unhappy with chicken that you buy at the store? Maybe this is something you would like to try in your area. Unfortunately not everyone can grow their own meat birds. We live on 1.5 acres in the city. That means even though we have laying chickens and rabbits, we have regulations that state how many small animals we can have and we have maxed out at that number. We did skin and freeze ou...

Simple Inexpensive Farmhouse Christmas Decorations

I love decorating in a simple way. I don't have a desire to go shopping and find all the perfect items that I know would look AMAZING in my farmhouse. I do though, have time to run outside and see what I can find. If I don't have a tree to cut from I usually have a neighbor that will share. I love bringing nature indoors throughout the winter. I miss being outside when it is cold and snowy out....
Cooking Sourdough Tortillas Outside
Переглядів 344Місяць тому
I love cooking outside. My desire would be to have an outdoor kitchen to use during the summer. I think that would be great. Maybe a pizza oven as well. But, until then I am blessed with a Blackstone griddle on my front porch. It does a great job of cooking tortillas. If you are a sourdough cook and have never made tortillas, you are missing out. This recipe is from Lisa @FarmhouseonBoone . She...

Bone and Herbal Broth For Your Health
Hi Penny I’m enjoying your channel, boy these meals looks so scrumptious!
Thanks so much! Thanks for coming along! 😁🤗
I’m so impressed that you did so much while you were feeling so lousy! I would’ve crawled into bed and told my husband he was in charge! Sure hope you’re feeling back to normal quickly! Gwen
Oh Gwen, there were a couple of those meals! Thanks so much for your kind words! Blessings! 😁🤗
That’s so cool! Fun to watch the process. You are so talented. Hope your voice returns soon.🙏🏻❤️Val C
Thank you so much for your kind words val! Blessings, my friend!
It is surprising how fast they cook.
Once they get started, it’s crazy fast! Enjoy! 😁🤗
Thanks for this Mrs. Penny! Im looking forward to trying this on my sourdough journey! ❤
I hope you enjoy it! 🤗😁
Still praying for your continued recovery! Thank you so very much for this pita video and recipe! Blessings on you and all your household as well sweet friend!🌿💚🙏💕🤗👵
@@marking-time-gardens thank you so much, Carolyn! I hope you enjoy the recipe and blessings on you as well! 🤗😁
Yay! The pita video. Thank you so much will be trying these very soon. Appreciate you always listening to your viewers when we say oh please show us more! Have a great week ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😁🤗 ENJOY!
Great instructions! I could feel your scratchy throat and hope it keeps improving every day. Amazing that you got this out and I appreciate that. This recipe is one to save so I'll be back to watch over and over. I bet they tasted wonderful with the Einkorn!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Mary! I hope you enjoy the recipe! Blessings, my sweet friend! Much love! 🤗😁
How fascinating to watch those dough disks grow and turn into a pocket. I am wondering about the very first time a woman (it had to be a woman) made a flat bread and had it turn into a pita pocket. Do you think the people in her community praised her discovery? She should have been given the highest prize!
🤣 Yes! I wonder this about so many things! Thanks so much for brightening my day! I love you, friend! 🤗❤️
@@OpenHandFarm Penny, you brighten my day with every video! Your reply brought tears to my eyes. I love you, too!
I hope you feel much better soon!
I hope you feel better by now, Penny!! Great video!!
So sorry you have been ill. Praying for your complete healing and recovery! Blessings dear friend!🌿💚🙏💕👵
I am so sorry you have been ill! I am curious if you had tried any of your herbal tinctures or such to help with it? I really feel like the firecider does wonders to help kick things out the door. I have been making marshmallow, peppermint, mullien, and whatever else I think of at the time tea. With it being so cold I just have a pot on my wood burning stove and give it to hubby who is having some congestion issues. I don't ever miss your videos friend - thanks for sharing your life and ways with us!
Hi Mary! Yes, I have been using echinacea for everybody else in the house and I did a bowl of hot water with theives oil in it for my chest. Today I will start Usnea tincture for my chest as well. I had totally forgotten about it because I usually leave my little tincture bottles in front of me on my kitchen counter, and I had given the tincture of usnea away. I thought about it and realized I need to make me another bottle and start using it.
Good job!!
Watching you a second time now that I’m sitting down and can catch all your written notes. Trusting that between meditations and God’s blessings you feel better in no time.
I am so sorry to hear you are sick. It sounds like you caught what is going around. Get plenty of rest and take extra care of yourself.
I had something similar what you battled. I had it over Christmas/new years It really kicked my butt.
Hope you’re feeling better. You have such a neat, organized “larder” as you call your home grocery store! Thx for sharing. Susan
Enjoyed your video as much as you don't enjoy being sick! So sorry but if anyone can handle it - you are the queen. Even being sick you have produced a good video with lots of variety and yummy food. I bet you enjoyed shopping your own pantry instead of haven't to go outside. You remain a wonderful example for me and others of how to live your life. I just watched Jessica's video after her baby was born and how she managed - another great example. I'm so blessed to have such wonderful people in my virtual life! Take good care of yourself!
Thank you, Penny, for persevering in providing a video for us even though you were very sick. God bless.
Feel better.
Oh friend, take care of yourself! I am on day 19 of this viral infection. Also was negative for Covid. Starting to feel better but goodness, what a long haul. Someday I feel like cooking, others we order in. Not going to worry if my pantry challenge is a little weird this year. Thankful for a stocked pantry. Outside temperature is -30° Celsius. A perfect day to rest in front of a fire. Blessings to you and yours.
Oh my! Yes, you come before the challenge! Ge better, stay warm! 🤗
Oh my goodness, I hope you feel better real soon! January has been rough so far. I've been sick, too. Every time I think I am getting better, the cough starts up again. I chose 'healthy' as my word for the year. So far, I am failing miserably. Lol! But this, too, shall pass. Your meals all look delicious!
Oh no! You get better! 🤗
I hope you're feeling better soon!
One of the worst things when you feel like you do is that food doesn't taste like it should. :( Praying for your speedy recovery!
Thanks so much. I’m on the mend. It’s been a tough week, but I’m trying to be grateful for the little things. 😁
@@OpenHandFarm Well, I am grateful for you (but you are not just a little thing)! So glad you're on the mend.
So sorry to hear how sick you are! Praying for full recovery. These things take time and rest. You still managed to do a video too. Everything always looks so delicious. Rest well. ❤️🙏🏻Val C
Loved your video and seeing the Littles enjoying snow ice cream
They really liked it! 😁
great idea for a dip
Thanks! 😁
Excited to try this recipe! Have to "revive" my sourdough first... it's in the freezer on vacation LOL! My goodness has Elsie grown and she looks so adorable too! 😍 Blessings sweet friend! 🌿💚🙏💕👵
It will be well worth the effort! 🤗😁🍌🍞
Looking forward to trying this recipe. Looks so delicious. Oh Elsie grew! Very cute. ❤️🙏Val C
I think you will love the recipe Val! Oh yes!!! She looks bigger every day! Gained 2 lbs last week alone! 🤦♀️🤗😁
Love how you're making the most of what you have, Penny! 😊 The 'Fronch Toast' sounds delicious and such a creative twist! Keep up the great work with the pantry challenge - you're inspiring us all to get creative with what we have.
Awww, thanks so much for the encouraging words! I so appreciate them! I’m thinking it will get more creative as we go since there will be less of the “common” items on hand. I’ll just have to put my thinking cap on! 🤗
I love that you grind your herbs and infuse the oil with them. It has to be delicious!
It was so good! Everyone liked it! Thanks for watching and for commenting! I hope to hear from you again! 😁
Mrs. Penny! You be careful out there shoveling snow! That scared me! We also got about 13 inches, then 5 days later got another 4 inches. Beautiful, but such a mess to dig out of! I'm really interested in trying to make sourdough, so I'll be on the lookout for the banana bread video. I loved the pita bread and your audible joy at watching them puff up! Stay safe and warm!😊
Hello sweet Jen! I was very safe and took breaks while I was out there. I am used to hard work but usually during garden season.😜. I hope you do get into sourdough. It is so much fun. Everything you see on Instagram and things like that are making sourdough bread, but there are so many other things you can make that are so easy. This bread is one of those. The pita was fairly easy as well. I will have a video up Wednesday on making the Banana Bread and hopefully next week making the pita. 😁 Thanks so much for watching and for your caring comment. You are a blessing! 🤗
Thanks for sharing some great ideas
Thank you for watching Cheryl! I hope to hear from you again soon! 🤗😁
Thank you for sharing! I enjoyed hearing about your meals!
Thank you for watching Carrie! I hope to hear from you again. Blessings! 😁
Your pita break looks amazing!
Hi Shari! I hope all is well! I was so happy with the way it turned out. It was so yummy! Blessings on your new year. 😁🤗
A friend who grasps your need for coffee!
😁 are you a coffee drinker as well! I actually did not drink that whole container. It was so funny when he brought it to me. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting! I love meeting people with like minds! 🤗😁
Loved this video. Lots of great ideas and fun. Snow cream surely brings back memories.
Thanks so much, Sonia! I had not made it snow cream since my kids are little and my oldest daughter is 41. So it took a minute to remember how but they absolutely loved it! Oh, even as I’m typing this, I just remembered I still have the bowl in my freezer with some in it. Maybe they’ll want some the next time they come back in a few days. ❄️ thanks so much for watching and for commenting and I can’t wait to hear from you again! 😁🤗
Hi Penny! Wow! So much snow! And many great ideas to use for pantry meals... very exciting and can't wait to try them all! (Especially the potato soup!) Blessings on you, Mark and Elsie Mae! ❄️🌿💚👵
Thanks so much, Carolyn! I’m always so happy to hear from you. I hope you enjoy the soup as much as we did. Blessings on you as well sweet friend! 😁🤗😘
Everything looks delicious.
Thanks so much, Connie! 😁🤗
Thrilled to see the pita sourdough video!! Will be patiently waiting. Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks so much for watching and I will try to get that out in the next couple weeks. I was thrilled to find the recipe and they are so good. We only have about four left. I did give some to my friend that we had coffee with, but Mark and I have been eating them Almost every night. They’re so good! Blessings! 😁🤗
Thanks for another great video, Penny. Your family is blessed to have you. Would you mind sharing some information about your baking sheet? It looks fun...
Thank you so much for your kind words! I love the smile on your face in the picture. All of my viewers know what I look like but I rarely know what you look like. Thanks for putting your picture up. As far as the baking sheet, I’m not sure which one you’re talking about. The one that I made pizza in? The one I made the pita on? Or the big metal ones? I would gladly share. I’m just not sure which one. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting and I can’t wait to hear from you again! Blessings! 🤗😁
@@OpenHandFarm Awww, thank you, Penny! I was referring to the baking sheet. Looks like it may be stone. I would love to transition away from aluminum. Thank you!
@@unyika3 Oh, yes! That is a Pampered Chef baking stone. I have several and love them. They make bread have the most delightful crunch, yet not hard, exterior when baked in the bread pans. I have what is called a large Bar Pan which has sides all the way around. I cook sheet cakes in them. They also have cookie sheets which is maybe what you noticed. It comes up on both ends to make a handle of sorts. You don’t use soap on them but don’t have to season them like cast iron. They season themselves. Just don’t set one on a hot burner on top of the stove. It will crack! 🤦♀️ I hope this helps. Here is a Pampered Chef link. There should be a distributor in your area. 😁🤗
If you wash your potatoes ( so you can eat the skin too), then let them air dry completely you can store them in your vegetable bin in your refrigerator. I tried this and it works perfectly! I also. Peel and cut some up into frie shaped put into a container and cover with water to wash the starch off. Then drain and add fresh water to cover them again. Store in fridge until ready to use…last up to a week or more as long as you change the water at least once a week. I do the same method for anyway I might want to use them: chunks for oven roasted or in stews; small cubes for soups or pot pies. This helps me not waste the potatoes and If I put them in glass jars I don’t forget them and it reminds me to use them up. 🙂
Oh my word, Nancy! What a blessing you are to me! I actually have a new food processor that cuts french fry shapes. I want to try canning some, but I could go ahead and cut some and put them in the fridge as well! I love hearing from my viewers and learning new things from you. Thank you so much for commenting and for watching! Blessings, my friend! 😁🤗
This was a great video! Thank you!
