    It's best to color your hair on "dirty" hair. A day or two old hair. Also going darker for summer is ideal!!! In the summer your skin tends to get color and in the winter your skin gets lighter so lighter hair in the winter is more "flattering". So opposite of what you would think!

    I have a question for any of you who know the answer, please. Right now, I have a medium brown color with a few bleach salon highlights with dark roots and dark hair underneath. I'd like to (using Natural Instincts) to go from (my own hair color) dark brown to a light brown or dark blonde but not result in brassiness ...is this possible?? I'd also like to possibly use a light blonde and highlight with it afterwards..Is this possible too? Thanks so much!

    You mentioned washing your hair prior to the application and doing it on damp hair. I've always heard it's best to do it on dirty hair. How accurate is that? Have I been doing it wrong all these years? 😳😩

    • @gemlou1979
      @gemlou1979 7 років тому +6

      RockaholicKitty permanent dyes are used on dry dirty hair.. semi's and demi's are used on clean damp hair :)

    • @arilyzette
      @arilyzette 7 років тому +5

      RockaholicKitty never color your hair when it's damp! soooo damaging! especially if it's a color that uses a developer. coloring on dirty hair is better because the oils from your scalp keep the color from irritating your scalp and over drying your hair!

    • @courtneyhoing
      @courtneyhoing 7 років тому +2

      RockaholicKitty all I know is the directions in this box say to use with damp hair. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @LunaBeauty666
      @LunaBeauty666 7 років тому +1

      RockaholicKitty with a semi permanent it's fine if your hair is clean and damp. It just depends on the type of color

    • @ben-and-nate
      @ben-and-nate 7 років тому +4

      Second day hair is fine or even later if your hair doesn't get greasy, but if your hair is super oily, I wouldn't recommend any more than second day. Greasy hair isn't good for color application because the color has to work harder to penetrate the strand. Slightly damp hair can be good for a glaze/gloss or direct dyes like bright colors that don't require a developer.

      Bsvx Love ....Hello. You could try to ask your colorist about it. My colorist told me I had to lift 5 shades/levels for the color I wanted. She showed me the color chart and explained it to me. Later I went to Sallys and talked to someone there and they also showed me a chart for their colors to match up. Worked perfect for me..8 yrs and counting.Was nearly $200 years ago at salon...down to under $20.

    I always go to Sally's and buy color and processors separately. I never trust box color. And Sally's is even cheaper.

    • @larsonanne
      @larsonanne 7 років тому

      I used Natural Instincts for about 10 years and several years ago switched to Sally's (demi-permanent at first and now permanent for more gray coverage) to save money--big bottle of developer and separate boxes of color. When I bought NI at CVS (the only chain in my town) sometimes I could get it bogo and/or had coupons so I could get it for $3-4 a box usually. The products at Sally's are less expensive than full-price NI. I do recommend NI as a quality product for people who aren't as confident about freestyle pouring and mixing developer and color, though I don't have any other brand knowledge for comparison to NI.

    • @edeneverly2573
      @edeneverly2573 7 років тому +4

      Sally's sucks. Every hair color of theirs I tried sucked. I've had way better results with box dye from the drugstore. I've been doing it myself for 15 years and the colorists where I get my hair cut always rave about how great and natural it looks and the staff often thinks my hair dresser did it. Nope. I use Revlon and it's cheap as hell, does beautiful. Love it. Sally's was a pain in the ass nightmare waste of my time and money. Give me a box of color and I will be on my way. Done. Super easy. Great color.

    • @Brookied2012
      @Brookied2012 7 років тому +3

      Professional here ✋🏼Sally's is not professional color and is just as bad as box color! Often times I find Sally's color to do much more harm than just box color. Not knocking anyone for using unprofessional color at all though! Sally's hair color is a bitch to get out of the hair more often than not when someone is ready for a change. Just my personal experience. Plus she only used semi permanent so that shouldn't be much of a task to get out if it doesn't wash out on its own.

      It's purely a financial decision for me. I'd love to have my gray covered in a salon but can't justify the cost at this time (I have done salon color several times over the years). I'm mid-50s and depositing a mix of dark blonde and light brown onto my medium brown natural color.

      Maybe Salons should stop charging so much damn money then.... The difference between at home vs Salon is huge sometimes over $100. And as a professional, you know how cheap the dye is compared to what you charge clients. Keep your dumb comments to yourself and let us enjoy these videos.

      @Brookied2012 7 років тому

      Joanna no, it's semi permanent. Which means it will wash out over time, it also means what doesn't wash out will be easy to take care of when she's read to go back blonde.
