It's such a treat, and absolutely fun, to watch you showing us farming life through your lens. Skilled, capable, confident, fearless; A total success unfolding right in front of our eyes. You're everything our young people should be looking up to. I'm going to share these videos with my daughters to watch. Thank you for being so amazing!
Thank you for my morning Laura Fix ! That smile of yours and that positivity is infectious ! The granddaughter I never had. You brighten my day young lady ! Now, WHO is in charge of Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance ?!? Surely there are computer programs for this that can “ talk” with on-board computers and post a schedule ? Love and best wishes from this frustrated farmer.
I cannot believe how many times you guys have to adjust to the many challenges of keeping your equipment running. You make it so real and so enlightening to your day to day lives working on the farm.. Kudos to you all so impressive
Love it when we see your Dad. He’s so funny! It’s good to have that sense of fun. For some reason, Grant reminds me of Mr Green Jeans from Capt Kangaroo. Very capable, more of the straight man of the operation. Very helpful guy to have around. Love the show, Laura!
We've been following you from the beginning. I grew up on a ranch/farm north of Roswell NM when things were different. Just when I think this country is going down we listen to you and have hope again.
Thanks for sharing. God bless you and your family. Most of my family come from farming, but back East it's a bit smaller. Love to see those large fields.
That's the way that I like ending a hard work day on the farm too. Sit there and watch the twilight and stars coming in and at my place the night animals (deer etc.) start coming out into the open to see what I was doing all day (mowing, repairing). You're right. Nothing beats country living! I don't get enough of it because I have to live and work in the city. I've been a regular viewer to this site for a year now and I'm so glad to have found it! :-) Get some really good sleep tonight, Laura!
Just had a beautiful sunset here in Gloucestershire (England) - can't get over how huge the NE skies (and fields) are. You're right - living in the countryside is good... not always easy, but so good. Good luck to you and Grant for the rest of the harvest 😃
Just found y'all, love, love this page. Haven't been on a combine since 1975 and I don't miss it at all. Lol but in 75 it was a lot more manual then the computerized version you have today. It was an old Gleaner. Anyway traded combines for tow boats. Now I deliver the product you cut/pick to the export elevators. Keep up the good work and videos.
Love for you to come to Illinois my neighbor is 81 years old and still farms with very very old farm implements that was his Dads!!! Like a 1948 international Harvester
Country life is awesome!!! I wouldn’t trade our homestead for anything!!! Making content that helps push people over the edge to move out of the situation they are in, get some land, and live a better life is now something I live for!!!
@@svetoslavdamyanov7667 all garden vegetables for now. We are looking to get into horses, chickens and goats. For now we are getting the property done, and the house redone from top to bottom!! Lots of work to do before we start bringing animals in.
I like it that the Grant showing his lunch has become a meme, lmao. I already said it multiple times, but it's soo great to see both perspectives of you two.
I totally agree on the country life. I'm about 70 miles south of Memphis Tennessee and thats 70 to close. Love the farm life and being country never ever bothers me.
Allow me two comments on this video.. I’ve been going to suggest this for quite some time but forget to because I’m old and dumb. Laura, you guys should make a calendar with twelve pictures showing your farm life. Most of your videos have fantastic shots of your work in the fields with the beautiful Nebraska sky and scenery in the background. Your combine harvesting America’s bounty with old glory flying proudly against a gorgeous sunset would make a calendar everyone would love to have hanging in their home, shop or office. Anyway, I hope it’s worth a consideration. Thanks for sharing what you.do and being America's farm girl. You’r something we can all be proud of and we need that right now!
I know you're excited to see beans coming to an end! We're done here in Alabama except for cotton. Defoliant has been sprayed, now we wait........Always enjoy your videos! Good save on the belt, Grant!
Hi Laura, Great job on the video's. So for a tip that may do you some good, try using Fluid Film on the equipment that is subjected to rust like those pivot knuckles. It's made from lanolin and isn't toxic so no need to worry about contamination. Might even work on those pipes you and Grant were having a hard time separating. It last for quite awhile in the outdoor environment. Hope your grandpa is coming along good.
Those drone shots of that American flag flying in the wind while that combine is harvesting!! Nothing more better at portraying American culture!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@beckyumphrey2626 It's amazing the way these two words are swapped. I never even knew of this usage prior to seeing Laura's videos. Some even referred to a creepy person as a "stocker"! 😁
Well as they say you've got to make hay when the sun shines. Some crops and farmers here light it up with LED lights and harvest till the wee hours of the morning. Sleep a couple of hours and then start again. Sage is around the clock 7 days a week until you are done .
In this video I in particular noticed your comment about being able to see the stars. YES!!! When I was young the farms had yard lights that you manually switched on and off. If you were out in the middle of the field doing fall plowing at 1 or 2 AM and stopped the tractor and turn off the lights, there wasn't another lite visible out to the horizon, it was very dark, and the sky was **FILLED** with stars. Then the power companies started putting mercury vapor lights that automatically turned on at night on each of the farms and even that little bit of light made it so that I couldn't see some of the stars that I could before. With all the light pollution that is out there today I can see only a small fraction of the stars that I could see in the night sky when I was young. Talk to your grandpa and ask him to tell you about the night sky when he was young. People today are so used to seeing only the brightest stars in the night sky that they have no idea as to what can be seen in the night sky if you are in a place where it is truly dark.
That's the great thing about where I live - when we turn out the lights it's dark! There are so many stars that it takes a few minutes before I can pick out the brightest ones and start to find my way around the night sky. Around the time I'm typing this, we have Scorpious setting head-first, Capricorn approximately overhead, Aquila and Delphinus to the northeast, the Great Square in Pegasus to the north, and the Southern Cross low on the southern horizon - always lovely to see!
@@vk2ig : Very good, excellent, I'm glad you're able to enjoy that kind of a night sky. I never learned much about the constellations beyond the big dipper and north star. But I was always in awe of the thick blanket of stars that were there in a really truly dark sky. It was just incredible. Especially on a moonless night.
@@InquisitiveSearcher Unfortunately, we never get to see Polaris or the Big Dipper down here. For example, we see just the edge of the Big Bear (Ursa Major) on our northern horizon, and Auriga (Capella in particular) is seen there in our summer ... which is nice because I remember seeing it often during my time in the northern hemisphere. Around midnight at this time we're seeing Orion (or the Saucepan, as our rural folks call it) rising as Scorpious sets. This fits with the ancient mythology, where Scorpious was sent to sting Orion, so they forever chase each other across the sky.
Granted Laura has a lot of work to do on Grant, but if anybody can teach him she can. Might not hurt to start him on proper fridge keeping, boy just slams & tosses. Laura has a knack for teaching. She knows what needs to be taught and covers the subject. Few city folks know how the supermarket gets the food they sell thanks to Laura.
What is diesel exhaust fluid? What does that do? I will Google it. Answer: it’s used in a catalytic process to reduce the amount of air pollution from a diesel engine.
I’m from NE Kansas, thirty miles south of Topeka, and irrigation is non- existent here. I’d think we’ed have about the rainfall as you so I wonder why irrigation never caught on here like in Nebraska? Is it because the aquifer is more accessible to you than here I wonder? I’m kinda glad I didn’t have to deal with keeping pivots running when I was a kid after seeing some of the repair and maintenance issues you have with them.
Dust in the form of small fibres is never good - it causes all sorts of lung problems. Sadly, I think Papa Curt might've got his health issue from his service in Vietnam - lots of service personnel were exposed to all sorts of stuff over there (not just Agent Orange).
