    My wife just brought an air fryer home... so am watching these videos of women using it and I"m thinking all that for a simple baked potato?! Bam then I find this one, yep, I'm with you Joe, I'm tossing mine in the MICROWAVE... forget 40 minutes worth of time for ONE person and ONE baked potato! A++ on this video!

      Thanks for the comment Rob. Although i have used this oven for many things now, I still prefer the microwave method for baking potatoes and even mashed potatoes. 40 minutes is just too long for my liking. Thanks again.

      I am thinking for the week days when the wife is at work and it's too cold to fire up the grill I will be able to use this for simple burgers, chicken breasts, frozen fries and such. Will see how I do, I'm no chef by any means.

    I always make my baked potatoes in the microwave (1000 watt). Next time wrap your spud in plastic wrap after seasoning instead of the damp paper towel. Reduce cook time to 4-5 minutes. It will be cooked perfectly!

    • @YourEverydayJoe
      @YourEverydayJoe  6 років тому

      Thanks for the comment and suggestion. Question... never tried with plastic wrap, always too afraid that the plastic may melt and contaminate the food. How does the plastic wrap hold up?

    • @DiStackhouse
      @DiStackhouse 6 років тому +3

      YourEverydayJoe, I use a “thick” plastic wrap available at Costco and as a store brand at Walmart. It shrinks up but doesn’t usually melt. However, if plastic is a concern, I’ve also used waxed paper. It can be used in the microwave with no worries and works very well! Also make sure you reduce the time for smaller spuds...FYI this method works great for corn on the cob and takes only 2-3 minutes.

    You need to wrap with foil, air fryer at minimum 400degs, then temp probe for a reading of 200-210degs internal - they will always be fluffy with a nice crispy skin. The reason to season skin is so you can eat all of it - why waste the best part?

    • @YourEverydayJoe
      @YourEverydayJoe  5 років тому

      Gabrielle, not sure I understand your question. If you are asking if wrapping the potato will slow down the cooking process... I think wrapping them traps the steam in the potato and possibly lessens the cooking time to a small degree. I do not use foil in the microwave just a moist paper towel. Hope that answers you question. Thanks.

      @@YourEverydayJoe what I meant is can I use the same method I use for the slow cooker i.e. wrapping in foil and putting the foil wrapped potato into the air fryer? Will the foil wrap have a negative impact on air fryer as it does in a microwave.

    • @YourEverydayJoe
      @YourEverydayJoe  5 років тому +1

      No worries Gabrielle, I always use aluminum foil in my power air fryer oven. The air fryer oven works much like an electric burner with a fan used to circulate the hot air. Its not the same as a microwave oven. Bottom line foil is safe in the air fryer, although the foil may fly around the oven if its not secured. Check out some of my other videos and see that i have the catch tray covered in foil for ease of cleaning.

    In my opinion, microwaves are great IF you are very short on time and do not care about the nutritional value that is lost due to microwave radiation ... you might as well eat a cardboard potato with flavorings added. Yes, I have a microwave, but I do not cook in it ... I use it strictly to quickly (less than 2 to 3 minutes) re-heat food and/or drinks {especially my coffee}. Air fryers are faster than most ovens, use less electricity and do not heat-up the kitchen/house as much as the conventional stove/oven, especially when you are cooking for one or two people.

    • @YourEverydayJoe
      @YourEverydayJoe  5 років тому +1

      Agreed. The premise for the "test" was not to see which was the more tasty or nutritious version but if the air fryer was able to compete in a time race. Although I always use the air fryer over the microwave very seldom I come home from work and need to head out again and in my opinion the microwave will serve the purpose. And yes I understand that I can prepare meals in advance but sometimes that is not always feasible. Thanks for the comment and support.👍

    • @joannmccraw7235
      @joannmccraw7235 5 років тому +1

      @@YourEverydayJoe The test being a "time race", yes, the microwave won and will do so hands down every time. I think everyone (almost) finds they do not have the time, but need the "hunger tummy" to be satisfied before having to be somewhere else a.s.a.p. Occasional 'quickie meals' are necessary and the microwave comes in handy there. The constant use of the microwave, in my opinion, is removing needed nutrition our bodies need constantly. Preparing meals ahead of time is rarely done now a days ... as it use to be done. (Yep, I'm 70 and still remember the good ole days.) Today, with frozen dinners, food in metal cans, tons of preservatives and little time to think about "the way it use to be", we often forget what nature gives us. The days of home canning are rare and doctors visits are more and more often ... but no one seems to connect the two. Just a thought. BTW I do enjoy your tutorials I am subscribed ... keep it up ... and ... God bless.

    • @YourEverydayJoe

      Jo Ann McCraw you are absolutely right about the loss of nutrition in the food nowadays. I also believe that life should not be so chaotic. Maybe if we spend more time with family at the kitchen table eating wholesome foods we would have more of life to enjoy. I am working on these in my own life and hope it comes across in some of my videos. Thanks for your insight and experience. 🙏😄

Found it with this one. Interior space cavity was large, but the outside was smaller than my old one. I love the one-button push for 1-6 minutes, and the 30 second add or 30 second start. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I love how you can adjust the power level during cooking. The reviews said it could not be done, but this marked all the other boxes. and happy to say, it does. I can hit 1 minute start, and change the power level from 10 to 5, 30 seconds in, without interruption. my favorite feature!

      An air fryer is a convection oven. You most certainly can bake in it. If Joe knew how to cook he would have cooked it longer in the Power Oven and it would have turned out perfect. Yes the microwave is faster but the end product is not as good as the Power Oven. I understand that a microwave is faster but why undercook it for the airfryer? That's like making a snotty egg on the stove and a well done egg in the microwave and saying microwave was better and faster

    I cook a medium Maris Piper potato in a "steam mug" (clip on lid with air vent on top) for 4 minutes, then oil and foil and put it in the air fryer at 190 degrees for 11 minutes, unwrap, cut in half and bake for a further 3-5 minutes still sitting on the foil and adding grated cheese.

    There is no comparison, the air fryer potatoes are so much better.

      I put my potato in an sandwich bag, oil and season it in the bag, mush it around so the oil and seasoning is all over the potato, then remove it from the bag into the air fryer, cook about 45 min...so crispy on the outside, soft and really great inside.

    Question ,, couldn't you cook more then one potato in the air fryer ?
    I'm thinking 4 or more ?

      Yes. Could definitely fit 4 potatoes in the Power Air Fryer Oven.

    More time consuming, but I bet a twice baked potato would work great using a combination of microwave and air fryer. Bake potato in microwave (D Stackhouse’s advice is spot on) then do the second bake in the air fryer. Thanks for doing the comparison.

      Paul Renard thanks for your support of my channel. I believe the largest chicken I have cooked in the Power Air Fryer Oven has been 4 1/4 lbs which was cooked using the rotisserie. You can check it out here ua-cam.com/video/afAAhXE5gyo/v-deo.html it came out great. Check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks again for the support.👍😎

    I would think if you wrapped the potato in aluminum foil in the airfryer it would be better

    I wrapped 2 Idaho and 3 sweet in foil. It cooked faster , I poked each about 15 times before wrapping

      That's great @Vince Caputo. Did you cook them in the power air fryer oven? How long did you cook the sweet potatoes?
