Almost 40 years after this album was released he was finally written up in Acoustic Guitar magazine as just that. An excellent guitar player that was overshadowed by his song writing.

Read his bio Rumours of Glory! Truly beautiful book , every page written in his poetic descriptive style. Bruce wanted to become popular in Canada first , and was not interested in being paraded out in front of American audiences on a long gruelling Record Company Tour in the 70s….

Apparently the late Eddie Van Halen praised BRUCE COCKBURN's guitar work, especially on his "Tuning Techniques" in GUITAR PLAYER Magazine, and it's Obvious WHY...
      True Guitarist's Legend!

      Mr. Nelson,
Of course it will does. He's a Cockburn. He lives as he wants and plays his own way. It might not a full scale assault on your senses but it is very cool. Another clan member of a clan known for musicians and preachers. I am sure he is a bit of both. Maybe a little hellion in him.

I did not hear of Bruce Cockburn until 2006. That is because I made a friend from the states on a certain game site (that is named after a jumping stick and a punk dance) playing a card game, and while we were both playing she was typing the lyrics of the song for a bit of fun as she was singing this song to herself while listening to it. I asked her what it is and who it is she listening to and she told me, and I have liked his music ever since.

That's awesome, great way to find great music. I grew up homeschooled in the early 90s thinking Bruce Coburn, and timbuk 3, are two of the biggest bands in america🤣. Then I went to public school when I was 10, got startled by an auditorium full of kids dancing to some shit called the Macarena, and realised I knew nothing about the surrounding culture. Coburn and timbuk still play well sometimes, I hope to never hear the Macarena again😂

Low expectations. You grow up in a family who's motto is, Accendit Cantu , and your attitudes change. I have met this cousin and he is a great guy. He is a Cockburn. He is noble and modest. Sometimes it has to do with genes. When they get molded for a few hundred
years it shows. Take care and don't forget,"If I Had A Rocket Launcher." peace

Bruce wasn’t much interested in being famous and publicity. Canadian to his beautiful core, wild and a bit shy like a timber wolf watching from a forest but hidden by branches and tree trunks, discoverable if you take the time to look for him.

Well it's because Bruce Cockburn , is a truth and freedom fighter!!!! His song: if I had a rocket launcher, is retaliation against the Canadian clowns in parliament, called politics. He sings about their corrupt systems, and double standards. They don't like been exposed or been accused for thier unjustly doings and there for lower his famous rankings by not letting him be more popular than he should be!!!! It's all a game and they call the shots and he has to face it and this is how it works, the same thing happend to Bob Marley, and Greek singer Cat Stevens.🤨🤨🤨🤨🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐😤😤😤😤🇨🇦

@@arnoldlitke5084 I agree with all you wrote about the great Bruce Cockburn, except "not letting him be more popular than he should be" indicates you think he should not be more popular. I think you miswrote there, with all due respect. You meant "...more popular than he is," right?

Here's the song that started my being enough of a Bruce fan to see him in concert, got a handshake, and buy all his albums. The UA-cam algorithm programmed and played it last Saturday at my coworker's desk, who had never heard of him (he's a third of my age). I explained how I became a big Bruce Cockburn fan. I had to try five times to get him to pronounce his last name correctly, and I'm afraid I still did not convince him. But I always though it was funny that Leo Sayer's cover version of "Wondering Where The Lions Are" said "dinosaur" instead of "petroglyph." I guess Leo couldn't pronounce it or thought his audience would not listen to a word they did not know.

Always loved this upbeat, wonderful song about eternity. Interesting that Bruce had a bad dream about scary lions, which made me think of 1 Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." NKJV. Then came his dream about "friendly" lions which inspired this song. It reminds me of Isaiah 11:6 " The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them." NIV.

    Sun's up... looks okay
The world survives into another day
    And I'm thinking 'bout eternity
Some kinda ecstasy got a hold on me
I had another dream about lions at the door
They weren't half as frightening as they were before
    But I'm thinking 'bout eternity
Some kinda ecstasy got a hold on me
Walls, windows, trees, waves coming through
You be in me and I'll be in you
    Together in eternity
Some kinda ecstasy got a hold on me
Up among the firs where it smells so sweet
Or down in the valley where the river used to be
I got my mind on eternity
Some kinda ecstasy got a hold on me
And I'm wondering where the lions are
I'm wondering where the lions are
I'm wondering where the lions are
I'm wondering where the lions are
I'm wondering where the lions are
    Wondering where the lions are...
Huge orange flying boat rises off a lake
Thousand year old petroglyphs doing a double take
    Pointing a finger at eternity
I'm sitting in the middle of this ecstasy
Young men marching, helmets shining in the sun
Polished and precise like the brain behind the gun
Should be, they got me thinking about eternity
But some kinda ecstasy got a hold on me
And I'm wondering where the lions are
I'm wondering where the lions are
I'm wondering where the lions are
I'm wondering where the lions are
    Wondering where the lions are
    Wondering where the lions are...
Freighters on the nod on the surface of the bay
One of these days we're gonna sail away
    We're gonna sail into eternity
Some kinda ecstasy got a hold on me
And I'm wondering where the lions are
I'm wondering where the lions are
I'm wondering where the lions are
I'm wondering where the lions are
    Wondering where the lions are
I'm wondering where the lions are
    Wondering where the lions are...

I remember hearing this song on Casey Kasem's American Top 40 when I was a teenager. It made it on the billboard charts sometime in the early 1980s. The song was supposed to have some kind of political meaning to its lyrics, but I can't remember the specifics of it. I just like hearing the song and listening to Bruce Cockburn sing. Therefore, I'll go ahead and let the expert music connoisseurs figure out the political meaning of the lyrics. Meanwhile, I'll just enjoy the song. :)

Morning JJ! I have two wake up songs: "More Than a Feeling" (Boston, of course ) and THIS from a true poet. He was a huge influence on all my friends in slow train and big sleep. (slow train split due to philosophical differences .. our reaction to the Christian Music scene and you can HEAR the cynicism about the Church on "Dancing"), but Cockburn was ground we all where we all remained as friends. WE all consider him on the same level as Dylan and Springsteen. He is that darn good. Poet, Juliard trained gtr. player. Enjoy this . from one of my favorite early albums. 30 years we have all ridden w/ Bruce Cockburn. He is darn good people. ttyl!

Slow Train was about to get signed by Star Song records. We turned our backs on the Christian music industry and started playing bars and clubs. Then big shows as an opening act for bands like the Call. I also did a show w/ Echo and the Bunnymen.

      Douglas Buzby
I hope you know he is one incredibly cool guy. He has a name for himself playing acoustic guitar. He is able write music like this because of the family motto which is Accendit Cantu. It is Latin for Arise Singing. How the hell do I know that? On my birth certificate my name is also Cockburn. I didn't grow up in Canada. He was Nova Scotia born. That means New Scotland. My whole family was rounded up in 1648 and sent to New Brunswick, Ga.
I was called the Banishment. That is how the English paid back the Scot who fought in the revolution. You've seen Braveheart haven't you? It was the english way of payback. I was in Scotland right after the last vote for independence and some clans were so passed they were talking about leaving. I asked a cousin why not? I was told that at least they knew the land. I asked them do you know how damn cold and wet it was and was told that it was better than hot and dry. I live in Tucson Arizona and they were right.
Take a good listen to his music and you will hear the Celt influence. It is not a bad thing, eeh? Take care and all you have to do is listen. I believe his first album was the best. Be good and go to Nova Scotia and check out the women.
      Fine and beautiful. peace
      .
