I agree with you as well Pete. SUCH a great album. Easily the best Cockburn album I've heard and for me it should be in the top 500 albums of all time.
I've been hearing this album in my heart since I heard it back in college. Jeez that is a long time ago. I bet they weren't so merciless about the name he had to change it. Too bad Americans are so ignorant. eeh? At least you didn't tell people over and over it's not pronounced like that. It's Co- burn. I told people it's not like Dick itch. So I changed it. Not much but some are so dense you need a rocket launcher
Bruce really carved out his own genre with this album. It's flawless and every song is a gem. And after 40+ years since I first heard it I can say it is timeless. As contemporary as ever.
Centred on silence Counting on nothing I saw you standing on the sea And everything was Dark except for Sparks the wind struck from your hair Sparks that turned to Wings around you Angel voices mixed with seabird cries Fields of motion Surging outward Questions that contain their own replies... You were dancing I saw you dancing Throwing your arms toward the sky Fingers opening Like flares Stars were shooting everywhere Lines of power Bursting outward Along the channels of your song Mercury waves flashed Under your feet Shots of silver in the shell-pink dawn...
Bruce sings about the Lord & LSD at the same time!!! How cool is that! This guy is The Cat's Ass! I bet conservative Republican evangelicals consider this genius shocking & outrageous! I saw God on 4 hits in 1974 so I get it! He could teach Bob Dylan a thing or two! Those 2 are so alike!
Isn't he great. We saw him 3 times in Madison, Wisconsin. His music is something we can all agree on. He tells the truth, often in a very psychedelic but natural way. He's not afraid to bring up politics & religious issues. He's one of a kind & speaks his mind.
In 1974 a friend & I took 4 hits of LSD each & went for a 240 mile ride to La Crosse, Wisconsin. The seller said it was weak & sold it cheap. 100 miles into the ride I found myself driving thru an apocalypse of tornadoes, volcanoes & exploding atomic bombs!
I was ready to have a heart attack! I called for help & God appeared as a bright Light, EXACTLY as described in the Bible or as in a "near death experience"! My friend must have been scared too & drank a bottle of wine & passed out.
He kept flopping in my lap & I had to keep pushing him back up against the passenger's door. I called for help, God showed up immediately & fixed everything, even reviving my friend!!! That bright Light scared me even more, but God shielded me & said "Don't be afraid"!
This song one of the best I've ever heard ...

uncanny guitar work.. perfect
Centred on silence

Lines of power
Bursting outward
