I have many many Gemini Foils and Couture Creations (Go Press and Foil) as well as Spellbinders. I just did a test run on the Gemini and Couture foils and they both worked just GREAT!!!! I am so ecstatic!!! I used the fine point just to see if they would show up and they are perfect! Now I can finally make some pretty labels as well as sentiments in my cards with all the different colors of foils that I have.
I have successfully used spellbinders glimmer foil with the foil transfer tool. I happen to also have a spellbinders glimmer system so I happen to have a bunch of the foil for that system as well. The glimmer system uses pressure and heat together to press foil into paper and other materials. So I knew it might press in with pressure. I was expecting it to flake off but so far so good. The glimmer foil seems to work well.
Good to know! I'm always curious as to whether or not one can use 3rd party materials with Cricut machines, since there's other UA-cam videos demonstrating success with some things (i.e. successfully using Crayola pens). Thanks for the time uploading this video. Well worth the watch!
So, the bold tip is actually our least favorite tip. We feel like it has less successful projects than the other tips. We did try the bold tip in our first test, and it turned out awful.
Hoping you can help! Using my Maker, I attempted a canned Christmas card found in the Cricut library to test out my new foil transfer kit. Tried twice - both EPIC fails! The first was a complete disaster as the foil bunched up almost immediately (yes, I had taped it down). Second, had similar results but got through about 85% of the foil transfer step before the bunching started. In case you would like to find the project, it is a black card with red foil that says 'Merry Christmas'. I have watched several videos, including this video and I seem to be doing everything correctly. Any ideas??
Becca I actually tried using my Gina K foil thinking it felt the same as the Cricut foil. I was sad when it did not work because I found I also did not realize how much mind, deco foil, and gina k foil I had stock piled! I have a lot to use up.lol
So any of the foil such as deco foil that require toner ink to transfer dont work. However I watched a different person demo and she used glimmer foil, and it worked very well. Almost identical to the cricut foil. Glimmer foil uses heat and pressure but has a different adhesion process that it doesnt require toner. I have tons of this lieing around because I am a crafty hoarder. I look forward to testing this out myself. Something else to think about and try.
Thank you for the video! Silhouette have a range of Foil Transfer Sheets that work with their embossing tool. Do you think they’d work? (Don’t think they’re cheaper but I have some lying around!)
If Silhouette's foil is pressure reactive it should. I don't know much about the Silhouette's, but if the tip you use needs to be plugged in like the Foil Quill, it won't work because you need heat.
Weirdly I didn’t think it would work as We R is heat vs transfer however I tried it on a scrap of Pearl cardstock as I have a pack and it did work!! It wasn’t as good as the Cricut result but the results were decent with the fine tip for text. Don’t ask me why or how it worked but I plan to trial again
I just need to know if I can use draw in the app since it doesn’t have foil!! This is more UA-cam’s fault for referring me to the wrong informational videos. I am; however, happy I got this one because I was wondering if I could look for cheaper priced foils that aren’t “cheaply made.” And I found a new page/creator to follow so that’s fun! Except.: way too many, “um-s” lol but hey she’s doin her thang! Thanks for the info.. IF ANYONE KNOWS A HACK TO USE THE FOIL ON IOS APP PLEASE LMK! God bless
Makes sense that the other didn’t work since it needs heat and pressure whereas Cricut foil just needs pressure. But thanks for testing it... we now know for sure...
I was going to say the same thing...We R Memory Keepers is heat trasnferred and Cricut is pressure transfer. There may be other pressure transferred foil but most are either heat or ink transfer based
As long as it only needs pressure, it should work. Although most of them out there like DecoFoil (which needs an adhesive) or Mink/Glimmer/WRMK (which need heat) won't work with just pressure.

yay!!! So glad you can use the materials you have!
Did the Spell Binders foil work, too?
I got it to work well

Great demo! Thanks Becky, you answered my question.
Thank you so much for watching, Rhonda!

Thanks Becca for testing this out so I don’t have to waste my money 😃
Thank you so much for your kind words! We appreciate you!
Great demo! Thank you. Did you try to bold the We R foil? Just curious!
So, the bold tip is actually our least favorite tip. We feel like it has less successful projects than the other tips. We did try the bold tip in our first test, and it turned out awful.
What kind of tape are you using to secure the foil pieces to the cardstock?
Tape came with it! But if you run out, use Washi tape :)
I used some foil from Amazon and it worked. You definitely want to use a light grip mat or well used green mat.
Great idea!

My first time watching a video with you. I like you! I normally see Tanner or Rachel.
Aww, thank you Carrie!! You're so sweet!
Love the foils!! Hope we get a white foil (for dark cardstock) and black for (lighter cardstocks).
Thank you so much for watching!

Oh no! So glad you figured out the issue though!
Because GinaK foil/DecoFoil needs an adhesive to work. Nothing but a pressure reactive foil is going to work with the Cricut Foil System.
Oh yay!! Can't wait for you to be able to use all of that foil!
I'm surprised that it worked as I thought it needed heat too. Does it flake off at all due to not having the heat to "burn" it in?
@@moosedawg71 so the gal that I watched demonstrate this rubbed on it and it flaked very little.
Its also pressure applied
Thank you for the video! Silhouette have a range of Foil Transfer Sheets that work with their embossing tool. Do you think they’d work? (Don’t think they’re cheaper but I have some lying around!)
Oh, that would be a great thing to test!!
If Silhouette's foil is pressure reactive it should. I don't know much about the Silhouette's, but if the tip you use needs to be plugged in like the Foil Quill, it won't work because you need heat.
@@moosedawg71 I did give it a go and it works but definitely not as well as the cricut foil

We had the same thought too! We we're pretty shocked as well that it even worked lol!
Can we use this on leather?
Yes, Cricut Design Space has some projects you can use with foil on leather. design.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/5f44182c7f3cd0029c1b6dfc
It can be used on “smooth” leather but not Cricut’s pebble leather.
Yes, it can be used with smooth leather :)
Correct!!
Yes!

You're welcome!! We knew we would get some questions on it!
Correct :)
Thank you so very much!
It's our pleasure! Thank you for watching!!
what if you use 3rd party that isnt heat transfer... cus you didnt test that
Then it will most likely work, feel free to test yourself :)
As long as it only needs pressure, it should work. Although most of them out there like DecoFoil (which needs an adhesive) or Mink/Glimmer/WRMK (which need heat) won't work with just pressure.
How can I get my heart to be all gold and not just outlined in gold?
You would need to do it yourself :) As soon as you change anything to "draw" it will only outline it.
If you use Inkscape you can actually install an add on to “cross hatch” shapes and lettering to fill in.
Good to know. The cricut foil must be pressure activated.
So it probably won’t work with minc foil either.
Correct, it is pressure activated! :)
So thats why it doesn't work. Thank you..
You're welcome!
Thank you so much!
Our pleasure!!
