Some 2003-2004 Mach 1 facts: 305hp, 320tq, 3.55:1 rear axle gear ratio. The stock GTs only had about 265 hp. A bone stock Mach 1 should achieve 1/4 mile times somewhere between 13.2 to 13.6 seconds at around 103 mph. Enhancements over the stock GT also include, a lowered, retuned suspension and additional frame rail connectors for a stiffer body. Large 13-inch Brembo front rotors and upgraded calipers are standard. The engine set up was basically the same engine as the 2001 Cobra, except that, the Mach 1 Team Mustang enhanced the performance with high-flow four-valve heads, higher compression, new cams (from the 5.4 Lincoln Navigator, reportedly with the same lift as the '01 Cobra cams but with different overlap and duration), revised calibrations, and improved exhaust manifolds that are also port-matched to the heads. It also had a functional ram air, shaker hood. This car is quite clearly a big cut above a stock GT and at least engine wise, even a 2001 Cobra. These were pretty special cars and in no way, were they simply a stock GT with few cosmetic enhancements. If the 2003-2004 Cobras weren't such fantastic beasts, the 03-04 Mach 1 would've been much more revered.
Those additional frame connectors were absolute garbage. Most if not all replace them with steeda full length or Maximum motorsports full length subframe connectors.
Remember when these came out due to a memorable ass woopin I received in my 89 5.0 speed. I had bolt ons, e303 cam and springs, headers/exhaust, and fat rear tires. It was a solid mid 13 second car and I rolled up on what I thought was a cool set of decals and scoop an a 2v GT. When I coaxed him into a race, I knew things were not as they seemed as I shifted second a full 2 seconds before he had to with his 4v. This was the case in every gear, and I would hold with him until his extra rpm pulled me at the top of the gears. When he finally pulled over, we chatted, and I learned a lesson in Mach 1 Goodness.
You can get a 2v GT to the power level of a Mach 1 and beyond easily with just bolt-ons and a tune, but... that 4v in the Mach has so much more potential. The same bolt-ons there will give you a pretty quick car.
Great review. I own both an 04 Cobra and an 03 Mach 1 and you got these reviews accurate. Great work! As far as "slow" goes, people need to understand that 260HP in a GT back in 1999 was decent, if not one or the better bargains you could get. Now a 420HP GT is common. I consider 180HP Hondas as "slow," 260HP GTs as fast, Mach 1s as faster, and Cobras as insanely fast. That's just me though
terminator cobras were hitting 12.70 1/4 mile stock and mach 1 13.1 honestly terminators were not insanely fast from show room floor knowing their bottom end completely build and supercharged pushing only 395hp on 8lbs boost you would at least expect to break 400hp through the eaton
what really makes these terminators fast is their aftermarket bolt ons such as throttle body pulley swap and cold air kit all together after custom tune u can see numbers like 480-500RWHP then your looking at 11.50 1/4 mile times which is what mach 1s get with 10lbs boost on a vortech sc supercharger not to mention thats a stock mach 1s limit before needing forged pistons and H beam connecting rods
***** Actually, the the terminator's engine was producing 420-435 HP at the crank as they were putting down 360-375 rear wheel horsepower on the dyno. Ford was very conservative on the specs due to their law suit on the 1999 Cobra that put down less than the advertised horsepower number. You also have to remember that 12.7 in the 1/4 mile was very fast for both 2003 AND for a car in the mid $30,000 range.
***** As for the Mach 1 vs the Terminator, that's the exact reason I bought my Cobra. To duplicate the same performance numbers the Cobra offered, I would have to put the same amount of money (to do it right) into the Mach 1 as the purchase price of the Cobra.. or end up with a Mach 1 limited to 450 rwhp, which is basically where a pulley'd cobra would begin.. I decided to buy a terminator because 1)They are a legend, reliable, and factory designed to idle and run smoothly with a blower, handling up to 700 or 800 HP no sweat. 2) I would be accumulating another asset that could be sold one day (if needed) compared to the money that would be invested in the Mach 1 and never seen again. I couldn't be happier to have both iconic cars.
Because the New Edge were The Mustangs of my childhood (like, when I was old enough to notice), I love the body style of them, and those Mach 1s are friggin awesome looking. I had a v6 S197 and I have a 5.0 S550 now, but or all the random special edition Mustangs, these Mach 1s are high up on my list.
I have a 2017 s550 gt now and before this I had a 2004 mach 1. The mach 1 was fun but the old 4.6's, even the 4 valves don't hold a candle to the new 5 liters. before the mach I had a 99 2 valve gt. it was sort of a factory freak, very fast for what it was. I for about 6 months had a v6 genesis coupe, just couldn't get into it.
The 4.6s might not be as powerful as the newer coyote 5.0s but those modular engines are bulletproof and hard to find them unreliable. Also very simple to work on compared to the newer computers on wheels🤣. I love my 04 mach1💯. However a coyote swap on my mach1 with some suspension upgrades would be an absolute rocket ship. Maybe someday🙏.
my friend had a mach1 and he loved it so much. He was offered a pretty nice amount for it and he sold it. He always tells me how he regrets it every day. Lol
Just purchased my first Mach 1 yesterday 11-10-2021 Blue 2004 one owner older gentleman very well maintained with only 98K miles garage kept. Luv the performance and handling. I’m a very happy camper, I luv this car.
I'm 8yrs late to reply to this vid. But I purchased my 03 mach1 last month. I love it. It came out when I was 16yrs old. It's now a modern classic. K&N cai, MBRP cat back installed last week. Going to my first Cars and Coffee ATX Sunday. Ol Yeller is detailed and ready. Been watching your stuff for years man keep on keeping on. 💯
Nice review David! I agree with you about the couple complaints you had, I had the same complaints about the Mustangs of this era. Can't wait for the next Mustang review!
Since I was a kid this was my dream car. Always wanted to get one and paint it lime green (keep the black stripes of course) and then put black bullitt rims. They're not that expensive but they're hard to find now.
That's a wrong analogy....cuz unlike the 2valve ford the Chevy LT1 had a shit load of power and lost only 20hp to the new LS1 not to mention torque was the same for both engines...when the new mustang gt came out in 99 it only made 260hp and the camaro which was first released in 93 was making 285hp by 1997..... in 98 it was making 305hp with the new LS1...so the new for 99 gt had no chance of beating the chevy even with a cobra. The z28 and z28 ss were unstoppable. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
@ USCupofCoffee - Call me weird, but I liked the SN95 & New Edge interiors, too - never had an issue with it. Well, except those tan-and-black two-tone interiors, which never caught my fancy.
Disagree so much here. First I have a 03 GT and is one of my favorite interiors. I love how they had done the dual cock pit back in 94. I love how they took the lines of the dash and took them into the door panels. Hate to say but unlike 05 on up New Edge do not have issues needing new panels as the material separates over time. Also love how you cannot see the door speakers are hidden in a New Edge. I hate to say 05 to current with exposed speaks does not look good in my opinion. Love the drive and feel of a short wheel base and 2 valves exhaust vs modern axles backs exhaust . I love my 03!
The interior for the New Edges and SN95s alike were much to be desired. 99-00 had horrible cup holder positions (01-04 fixed that), there is a lack of compartments near the shifter. No consideration in comfort was given especially with the GT seats being absolute garbage (cobra and mach 1 seats were way better). Could have worked a bit more on the dash and added more compartments etc. Not hard really, top of the dash is just absolutely clean and devoid of anything. The emergency flasher button is uncomfortably placed right above the steering wheel. I can go on. But the outside of the car was well done!
@ jmf80 - The interior that always struck me as cheap looking was the one on the 2005-2010 Mustangs. FMC tried to go retro, and ended up just making it look cheap and slapped together. The SN95s and New Edges fit like a glove if you aren't too large or tall - a neighbor of mine, a big ex-football player, could not shoehorn himself into my front passenger seat too easily so it wasn't a car for him - but the design is ergonomically-sound and attractive for that era.
I always liked the 2003-04 Mach 1... Especially with a 5 speed manual. I like that it only weighs 3,465 pounds, and packing a 305 HP / 320 LBFT 32 valve V8. For it's time, it definitely moved. Hell, high 13's is still faster than 90% of the cars being made today. Nice review as always.
I've had an 88, 90, 95, 04, and now a 2013....all of them were straight stock, virgins. My 04 is by far my fav of any car I've ever owned. It felt like a real sports car, it pulled good, sounded awesome, and was cheap to operate. I'd love to find another 04 with low miles ..I'd pay top dollar for another one.
I like these retro-car reviews because it is done by some oen that seems to really enjoy the cars regardless of their flaws and that what it means to be not only a car enthusiast but a driving enthusiast. We love the machines because the all feel a little different and because they are flawed we have to get to know and feel what they can or can not do. Many newer cars behave to simple or easy. Loaded with so many techno-gadgets that they practically drive themselves or at least they create the illusion that the operator knows how to drive them. As if they have all the soul of a micro-chip.
You're not beating any mustang GT in any toyota camry. Not only that the 2v 4.6 is a torque fiend. Takes a bit of rpms to get there but once it's there be ready. Not only that let's not forget ford used the 2v motor all the way up to 2010 if I remember correctly. All those motors swap between like 5 different ford vehicles.
Matt Corn I hear it's really hard to make power with those things since ford pretty much maxed them out from the factory. I'm guessing you had to play with runner/header lengths and some tuning to get that kind of hp out of it. lol.
Video still does justice till today, Mach 1 and Cobras are still hot on the market. Thankful for videos like this that bring light to the "Older" cars... gosh I feel old now 😅
The GT was better for the buck you pay for the name Mach 1 and a shaker . I wasn't hard for me to reach the power of the Mach in my GT with tuning and some smaller mods. Do not underestimate the 2v it has lots of potential. Nuff said.
yeah I see a lottttt of 2v hate on this channel. No, a camry will not beat a 2v. The 4v vs 2v comparison in why the mach is faster is a very broad statement. I think what you "meant" to say was the fact that the heads/cams in the 2v are absolute dog shit, and they aren't rev'd high at all. While the awesome heads and the 4 cams in the mach let it breathe at 6k+ rpm. The key to a quick all motor 2v is adding cams, and revving it to the moon...NO n/a mod motor runs good unless it is rev'd high...hence why every quick n/a mustang pre coyote is geared 4.10. The coyote would be the same way if the mt-82 itself wasn't geared so deep and had the extra gear. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this to discredit the mach, it's prolly the most underrated mustang there is, but I credit that mainly to the fact that the one's that track them know what they're doing, your average 2v driver is a high school kid and the 2v just doesn't have the power up top to make up for poor driving, while a coyote on the other hand can 2.3 60ft all day and make up for it on the back half of the track
Justin D The reason why the 4v can rev to 6800 almost 7000 rpms is because of the forged crank not offered in the automatic versions . So pony up get a manual
I use to have a red 04 Mach 1. Traded it in 3 years ago for a 08 ranger because I wanted a dirtbike, mountainbike, etc. Immediately after I traded it in, a kid bought it who covered it in stickers and blew the clutch within 2 weeks. Then 2 weeks later I saw it driving around again and after a total of 6 weeks of ownership, he flipped it into a ditch. Now I see a girl driving it around who keeps it CLEAN all the time thankfully and, no lies, every time I see/hear it, i tear up. God damn i miss that car. I'm lookin to get back into a sportscar within the next year, hopefully a 5.0 if i can afford it.
the terminator Cobra is a much better and faster car, But the Mach 1 has a completely different personality. It's cool in that Old School muscle way. You can always mod the Mach 1 to be as powerful and as fast as the Terminator . But whats awsome about the Mach 1 is that old school feel.
I agree but just remember the motor can handle up to about 450WHP. Now of course people have big powered cars out there in the world but if you have a 450HP mach 1 - realistically you're not going to find much out there that can run with it on your everyday drive. If you go ahead and forge everything I cant see it having any issues in the mid 500s. All comes down to the tune and if you drive it like an idiot or not. The cobra is a better platform obviously to make bigger power but I would take a 500HP mach 1 over a 500HP cobra. Most cobras are fast - pushing well over 600, but you dont expect the same from a Mach 1. 150 shot also can have the car in the 11s if you didnt want to run boost and you put some tires on it. Yes it can be as powerful as a cobra but not as powerful as one that is whipple swapped etc. .
I did not know that the Mach 1 had 4 valves. I really thought it was the same engine as the GT, but with some added power. You learn something new every day.
You are definitely right that the 90s and early 00s was the "dark ages" for Ford. But theyve had dark ages before and that were worse. The mid 70s to early 80s werent good years for Ford either. But neither was it for GM and Chrysler. But yeah, GM beat Ford out in the 90s with the LS1, C5 Vette, and SS camaro.
@ nitrous36 - Re: "But yeah, GM beat Ford out in the 90s with the LS1, C5 Vette, and SS camaro." Yeah, but the tables have turned now, at least for the Camaro and Mustang. The new Camaros may be great performers but they look like crap and you can't see out of them. I realize that comment will get some people upset, but having been around when the Camaro and Firebird were introduced in 1967, the new ones are a joke by comparison. The 1990s-early 2000s F-bodies, on the other hand, looked great and had the performance to back it up.
I used to have a Mach 1. The transition from 3rd to 4th was beastly and the adrenaline rush would fill me up with excitement. One time I floored it from 3rd at 90, shifted into 4th and after what seems to be 5-10s the engine was hitting its limit. The car was doing 135 in 4th with HP to spare. I almost shitted my pants because the car had exceeded my expectations. I believe the car would go 160 stock if the gearing of 5th was not so tall.
A guy down the street owns a Mach 1 and then a few houses down some other dude owns a gtr and a couple jeeps, like total off road set up, makes me so happy to see them
Haha same! It's my first car and she runs great; The odom reads 130 and I have an exhaust leak that makes the engine rev down extremely slow. But other than slow clutch engaging, she drives really good! In fact, the v6s actually run a TON better than people presume. Great first car, especially since the new edge body is my fav of all stangs.
+Daniel Andrews same bro. I have a bunch of bolt ons including my exhaust and I'm running 91-92 octane and it seems to be pulling harder now than when I had 87 in it xD
I know several 2v GT's that can walk a 4v cobra or mach 1 all day. its all about how you drive and the mods you have on the 2v.. but yes the mach 1 is very powerful!
The 4V does make the engine, and 300hp is plenty fun, but the shaker scoop makes the car, maybe not power, but watching that shaker dance is so much fun
mustang factory shifter is what change my life, i was an import guy, until i drove a mustang gt and accident shift in first instead of third and the car pulling so hard. when i hook to the v8
Time frame the Mach 1 was pretty respectable. It was ‘about’ as quick as a standard C5 Vette at the time but honestly nothing short of a Z06 or a Viper felt fast compared to the Terminator that put it in the backseat. Telling ya though, folks are spoiled on these factory 800 horsepower cars. The technology may have changed but the laws of physics haven’t. 300 horsepower cars are still realistically quick in most cases.
Finally a Mach 1 review. Although I really wished this one was more heavily modded, the focus of the review was more about the explanation behind the car rather than its performance figures and I can respect that.
No its not it's a 4 valve "R" Code it's basically a termi..engine without the Eaton supercharger. Everyone who is a mustang enthusiast gets this car for that engine and look if they can't afford the termi. .. u go with a mach 1 for the engine slap on a Whipple or proc harder and pushing 500hp
Jason O'Connell lol I could have afforded a termi but I chose a mach because I love n/a carsand you can't beat the look of that shaker. my next car will probably be a 2013-14 boss or one of these new gt350's
Hey, nice review! I have a 2004 Mach 1 with 40k miles and I love it. You are right, it is kind of a clique within the Mustang fraternity. They are good cars with good power and you're right, they sound great. Love Smurff too - I need to drive a 2013 or 2014 to see what they feel like.
I have own both 04 cobra and two 03 mach 1's, as a result, the only advantage the 03 cobra has over the mach 1's is the irs and supercharger, yes its a little better, but on the street as a daily drive the mach 1's are more fun to drive and fast and cool! I still own an 03 mach: love all mustangs
A 2 valve is hard to make power out of? What planet are you living on? If I where doing as good as you with reviews I would probably keep the comments related to things where I knew what I was talking about.
Clayton Yates Well, clearly you don't... If you think that compared to the 4 valve, which is what he was comparing it to, the 2 valve isn't harder to make power out of, you're just insane.
Well you can watch my videos. My Mustang 2v makes 612 to the tire cost like 5k. 2v are easy to make power with or I wouldn't have commented in the first place
Clayton Yates What!?!? 5k please tell me how!?!?!? Mine has 220k and is going to die soon. And a rebuild is just as much as a crate 2v almost and i dont want to pay 6k when i can buy a coyote for 7. What do i do!?!??
Say what you want about the 2V but I had one with 373s, exhaust and a tune and I stayed with a mach one 1 with a full exhaust until halfway thru third. I was impressed.
It was screaming yellow.Unfortunately, I just sold it a couple weeks ago. I miss that thing already. Yeah, I registered mine at the Mach 1 Registry. Now i'm gonna go cry! Just kidding. I might be getting an 2015 GT soon. If I can get the auto loan.
Putting a turbo or turbos on a 2V isn't any harder then boosting any other engine. And I have seen 2V's make well over 1000whp with a Kenny Bell blower. And that's with stock ported PI heads!
Oh and if you desire to go to Woodward this year if you want you can either review a 2011 roush stage 2 mustang phase 2 roush charger, turbocharged 2004 neon rt, 67 chevelle 396 ss #'s matching, or a 92 convertible mustang
I remember when I had my 1994 cobra, I had used the mach 1 painted red calipers with the mustang horse logo on them because I tried to paint my factory cobra calipers red myself, and messed em up so bad, even stripped out the hole where the banjo bolt goes. Those old calipers with the cobra logo are worth so much and so hard to find.
Good video. I agree that the Mach 1 was over looked because the terminator did come out at the same time and became the legend it is today, but I also think it is very important to mention that Art Hyde, a top man at ford gave a talk about the 03/04 mach 1 at the ford 50th anniversary and mentioned that without Mach1 the s197 would not have existed. Mach 1 sales boosted the mustang program more than anyone has ever known. here is the video Art Hyde on the Mustang Mach 1
I know those were old posts, but for those who dislike the older body style, please get it it right. It's not 2005-2010. The body style that you dislike is the 2005-2009. In 2010, the newer body style came out, with the older, but slightly improved 4.6 modular V8s and the ancient and very tame Cologne V6 engines. The 2011-20012 models look almost exactly like the 2010 models, but they sport the newer 400+ hp, Coyote 5.0 V8s and the 305 hp Cyclone V6 motors. I'm still not sure why Ford did that, unless they were trying to get an early jump on showcasing their new body style, during the same year as the return of the Camaro. Maybe they were trying to steal a bit of Chevy's thunder. I feel sorry for people who bought the 2010s, because they loved the new body style. They could've waited one year and they would've gotten an extra 100 horsepower. The 2013-2014 Mustangs are basically the same body style as the 2011-2012 cars, but the grill and front facia were changed to look more like the previous model Shelby Mustangs and they also got those great looking new tail lights. I bought a brand new 2012 Mustang Premium Pony Package V6 for my daily commute. At almost 60,000 miles, it's been a really great car so far, with only one minor problem that the dealer fixed. Every time I look at my car, I still think it looks really nice and I still get compliments and questions about the car. These V6 Stangs are soon going to be great buys for younger people. They perform similar to the previous Gen V8 Mustangs and they get the gas mileage of V6 Camrys or Accords. But, they look much better of course. In 8 years of ownership, nobody ever once complimented the look of my Honda Civic. I've lost track of how many times someone said they liked my Mustang. All that said, I really like these older Mach 1s. I wouldn't mind having one for a toy.
I have a very special black 2003 Mach 1 I might consider selling to the right buyer. It has 39k miles on it always garaged, paint looks like glass and has a silver Mach 1 stripe instead of black since you can't see the original black hood stripe on a black Mach 1 very well. Best part is it has a Vortech supercharger installed and tuned by Granatelli motorsports. The car has 505 HP and is a beast, never been to the track or raced I just wanted to have a faster mach 1 than stock. Other than the supercharger the car is stock so it makes a good collectors buy. Send me a message if your interested in purchasing, I live in CA ventura county area.
***** definetly agree with you there. after my 2v i said screw this and bought a 01 cobra, sadly that got wrecked and am driving another 2v for the time being. i miss that 4v everyday.
Love those shaker hood scoops. Thought about adding one to my '12 GTCS but cant quite bring myself to cutting up the hood. Great review as always, keep up the great videos!!
Hey man, I came across your channel a week ago when I first watched the vette C6 review. I gotta say, awesome channel and work man, lovin it! Keep it up
an x, with stingers or atks is the best sounding exhaust on these new edges. possibly add long tubes aswell. such an awesome sound associated with these mustangs. almost nothing sounds better.
Hey bud. I have a p1 procharged 2003 mach 1 in red. Its a 5 speed and has kook long tube headers and borla exhuast. You should drive and review it. It makes 500hp.
Honestly I’d be happy with just the two valve. I’ve never been one to care about being faster than everybody on the road. The two valve mustang is still quicker than most cars on the road. It sounds good and it’s great looking. That’s all that matters to me
It sounds a bit different though. You can tell its a 2 valve. That combo on 4 valves though literally sounds heavenly. lol. Seriously, one of my favorite V8 sounds. Especially on Cobras.
I had an 03 GT, never liked how it shifted. Very mechanical and loose to go into gears. Clutch was rather heavy which got old really quick going through town. Ford has now made much better shifting transmissions across the board. As compared to my current 98 NSX, 08 Cooper S both transmissions and shifting a world of difference. It's clutch much easier to deal with and shifts are nice and positive.
Dont leave out the Mach 1 intake manifold is better flowing than the previous 99-01 (:
Those additional frame connectors were absolute garbage. Most if not all replace them with steeda full length or Maximum motorsports full length subframe connectors.
260 the bullitt had 265 at crank
And the 2valve with 3.27 rear end ran 13.9
Excellent info thx for posting🐎
Remember when these came out due to a memorable ass woopin I received in my 89 5.0 speed. I had bolt ons, e303 cam and springs, headers/exhaust, and fat rear tires. You can get a 2v GT to the power level of a Mach 1 and beyond easily with just bolt-ons and a tune, but... that 4v in the Mach has so much more potential. The same bolt-ons there will give you a pretty quick car.
+kingcrimson234 yup, only makes sense.
4vs sound more beasty too i'd say.
***** love the sound on mine, it makes everybody turn their head when i pull in anywhere!
u have a mach or cobra?
***** it's an '03 mach, procharged.
very nice.
how much hp?
Great review. I own both an 04 Cobra and an 03 Mach 1 and you got these reviews accurate. Great work!
Scrun Johnson maybe ford is known to underrate their cars like the 2000 cobra R said to make 385HP to ctrank we all know they dynod 375RWHP
I think the only mustang you haven't reviewed is the cobra r. SOMEONE GIVE THIS MAN AN R TO REVIEW!!
Bullitt?
300
Terrab Nadia lmaoo
ravesilly agreed the 99-00 cobra R was tested against the new gt350 and the cobra R won not surprising
Brandon Wright this is not true in the slightest 😂
my friend had a mach1 and he loved it so much. He was offered a pretty nice amount for it and he sold it. He always tells me how he regrets it every day. Lol
He obviously didn’t love it that much if he sold it.
I just bought a brand new 22 Mach 1 Handling Package. Might pick up a low mileage 04 Mach 1 for a daily since they're so cheap.
Is it just me or does his right arm look a little bit more build than his left arm? Didn't realize Mustangs were that hard to shift.
***** Wide angle lenses tend to give a tad bit of distortion. haha.
haha don't know why I found this so funny
Is it possible to swap the 2 valve cylinder head for the 4 valve? I dont know for sure but is the Mach 1 a SOHC or a DOHC?
+FutureSEAL23 he did mention he was away from home so that means away from all his local booty calls and ...... you know the rest lol
jk
The 4 valve 4.6 in the mach1 is the same engine in the mercury marauder.
I have an SLP Loudmouth 1 on my '03 Mach 1 and the sound from the back pressure getting off the throttle is incredible.
I do as well and I couldn't agree more.
Nice review David! I agree with you about the couple complaints you had, I had the same complaints about the Mustangs of this era. Can't wait for the next Mustang review!
i know I'm kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to watch newly released series online?
@Kristopher Gunnar Flixportal :P
@Kevin Finnegan thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) Appreciate it !!
@Kristopher Gunnar happy to help =)
Don't know about a Camry beating the 2v sounds almost ridiculous.
Alejandro Gomez right my 2V walked a Camry a lot
Just the word ‘’Camry’’ sounds ridiculous
Yeah I beat a v6 Altima the one with the 350z motor
A lot of people beat me because I don’t know they try to race me, I’ll pull up to a stop light and just take off slowly and they will take off fast
Bob Saget 😂😂😂ok now shave your neck beard
Since I was a kid this was my dream car. Always wanted to get one and paint it lime green (keep the black stripes of course) and then put black bullitt rims. They're not that expensive but they're hard to find now.
I love my Mach 1... still competitive with slight mods. Never will be a termi but Eaton swap in my future anyway
Sounds like the 2 Valve mustang to the 4 valve is like the LT1 is to the LS1 in chevy terms.
Very good nutshell comparison.
The LT1 An LS1-LS9 Are 2 valve
The only DOHC 4 is the LT5 in the 90-95 ZR1
That's a wrong analogy....cuz unlike the 2valve ford the Chevy LT1 had a shit load of power and lost only 20hp to the new LS1 not to mention torque was the same for both engines...when the new mustang gt came out in 99 it only made 260hp and the camaro which was first released in 93 was making 285hp by 1997..... in 98 it was making 305hp with the new LS1...so the new for 99 gt had no chance of beating the chevy even with a cobra. The z28 and z28 ss were unstoppable. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Jorge Lopez the 03-09 Camaros are my favorite :)
Yea the 03-09 camaros are by the best in looks the rest are ugly as shit.
Also the pre 08 and pre 06 chargers were very nice looking as well.
So many people say the interior is bland but I love it wayyyy more than the newer mustangs.
I.love the interior. I have a 00 GT and a 96 Cobra. Had four of them all together..
Ferd Mesteng
Ferrd Moostang.
ThatDudeinBlue don't you mean furd mustang lol
#raisedbymu-tang
Turd shitstang lol jk
***** mu tang clan...
Just bought an 04 Mach 1 on cars and bids. Upgrade from the 04 v6 I had previously. Absolutely in love with it.
review a 96-98 cobra
Miss my '04. Very low 12s with bolt-ins. They are one of the best bang for the buck stangs ever.
Awesome car!
It's weird how there is a passenger with you all the time but we never see them.
Mathew Sparkman he has go pro mounted on the passenger window or windshield facing him. He’s alone.
"You're gonna beat him, probably in your Camry" Lol :')
mustangs of that generation had a real heavy clutch. but because of how long the throw is , it is surprisingly one of the easiest clutches to operate.
The clutches are heavy and sensitive,I cant count how many times the car turned off on me,especially on an incline
Just bought one!
Hp is 310 for 2004
and 325 ft lb of torque.
Not trying to nitpick whatsoever, just enjoying your video!😂
You're not beating any mustang GT in any toyota camry. Not only that the 2v 4.6 is a torque fiend. Takes a bit of rpms to get there but once it's there be ready. Not only that let's not forget ford used the 2v motor all the way up to 2010 if I remember correctly. All those motors swap between like 5 different ford vehicles.
3v on the 2005-2010
Eddie Lombera
Ya I got curious and started looking into that after seeing this. Weird ass motor. Never saw anything like that from ford before.
+nezerac making 380 with my 07 3v with bolt ons tune n cam swap.
Matt Corn
I hear it's really hard to make power with those things since ford pretty much maxed them out from the factory.
I'm guessing you had to play with runner/header lengths and some tuning to get that kind of hp out of it. lol.
+nezerac long tube no cats and borlas! Gt500 swapped throttle body and C&L intake Tuned by DELK performance in Lebanon, TN
Mach 1's just have that special place in my heart, despite the interior.
Congratulations. You officially turned me into a Mustang lover. And I'm a Import guy. Hahaha
Video still does justice till today, Mach 1 and Cobras are still hot on the market. Thankful for videos like this that bring light to the "Older" cars... gosh I feel old now 😅
So cobras are also 4 valve?
Scott Brixey Yes.
So there isn't really a difference between a cobra and a Mach 1...
Scott Brixey supercharger and forged internals and iron block in the cobra mach1 have Aluminium blocks
Scott Brixey cobras also have IRS ( independent rear suspension)
Which blocks do you think are better? Obviously aluminum are lighter...
03-04 Cobra is the best Mustang ever built with the IRS. It responds to mods very well.
The GT was better for the buck you pay for the name Mach 1 and a shaker . I wasn't hard for me to reach the power of the Mach in my GT with tuning and some smaller mods. Do not underestimate the 2v it has lots of potential. Nuff said.
did you even watch the review?
Somebody couldn't afford the 4v lol
@@devinpier7029 2v sounds better than a 4v and im a 4v owner
@@topdolla4045 that's an opinion
I don't think the 2 V's are hard to get power out of, mine certainly wasn't.
i own a 2000 gt and i believe its not that slow in my opinion, before i had a 70 chevelle(profile pic) and i still think that the mustang is faster
Yeah they're not slow, just slower than the higher models which makes sense. Love my GT
yeah I see a lottttt of 2v hate on this channel.
Justin D you are 100% true
Justin D The reason why the 4v can rev to 6800 almost 7000 rpms is because of the forged crank not offered in the automatic versions . So pony up get a manual
Joshua Barth mine is a 2v manual tho
You can't dude. The aluminum block on the Mach 1 limited the power you can make. The Terminators can make more.
@ nitrous36 - Re: "But yeah, GM beat Ford out in the 90s with the LS1, C5 Vette, and SS camaro."
Yeah, but the tables have turned now, at least for the Camaro and Mustang.
The car sounds orgasmic, but I'm not crazy about the those exhaust tips. Other than that, nice car!
A guy down the street owns a Mach 1 and then a few houses down some other dude owns a gtr and a couple jeeps, like total off road set up, makes me so happy to see them
Then there's the people with the v6. Me
That was my first car lol
+Brandon Green V6 Mustangs in this Gen are underrated.
+Devilito underrated for sure but that basically have the same power as the 99-04 v8s
Found a modded Mach 1 near me. Hopefully I can get a loan from the bank to get it!
I'm an '01 Cobra owner so I love the Mach.
Nice review! To me the mach1 is my favorite mustang to come out in its generation. Id rather have my mach1 than a cobra :)!
The 4V does make the engine, and 300hp is plenty fun, but the shaker scoop makes the car, maybe not power, but watching that shaker dance is so much fun
In my opinion I think he should have left the stock wing on it lol
mustang factory shifter is what change my life, i was an import guy, until i drove a mustang gt and accident shift in first instead of third and the car pulling so hard. when i hook to the v8
Fox Body review please!!!!!!!!
Great video by the way, looking forward to more Stangs!
I have a 02 gt that has stage 2 cams exhaust and cold air intake with a tune that makes 345 up so you have 2v motors way underated
Lol so you gained almost 100 wheel horse power with just those mods? Cmon
i am looking to buy a car but i am stuck between a 03 cobra and a 03 mach 1
nah, I kept my 03 Mach 1 (original owner) and parked in the garage beside my Mach 1 is a 2012 GT500. I love my Mach 1.
Is there any decent mods to make the mach 1 more toe to toe with a cobra/terminator?
Andrew Roselli Eaton swap
my 2 valve is every bit as fast as that boss and if you change the heads to the trick flow 2 valves they flow just fine.
Does the cobra really have IRS?😳
Yea they did
Dang I didn't even know.😔
The 03-04 Cobras are the only mustangs, besides the new 2015 mustang, to come with independent rear suspension.
Yessir!
Wesley Young
99-01 cobras also had IRS
Time frame the Mach 1 was pretty respectable. It was ‘about’ as quick as a standard C5 Vette at the time but honestly nothing short of a Z06 or a Viper felt fast compared to the Terminator that put it in the backseat.
Telling ya though, folks are spoiled on these factory 800 horsepower cars. The technology may have changed but the laws of physics haven’t. 300 horsepower cars are still realistically quick in most cases.
I also love the spoiler delete!
Finally a Mach 1 review.
Although I really wished this one was more heavily modded, the focus of the review was more about the explanation behind the car rather than its performance figures and I can respect that.
Was your first 02 mustang a v8 or v6?
It was a v8
glen lantz dammit I feel like I'm the only guy in the world with an 02 v6 :'(
Lol your not believe me.😏
No its not it's a 4 valve "R" Code it's basically a termi..engine without the Eaton supercharger.
Really clean mach 1. He should do a review on our 16,000 mile 2004 cammed fbo mach 1.
Hey man i love my 2 valve be nice 😂
Hey, nice review! I have a 2004 Mach 1 with 40k miles and I love it. You are right, it is kind of a clique within the Mustang fraternity. They are good cars with good power and you're right, they sound great. Love Smurff too - I need to drive a 2013 or 2014 to see what they feel like.
My one friend makes a big deal out of me having a mustang (a 99 gt...not impressive at ALL "who cares you got a mustang!" little does he know
Because your friend is a peasant who probably drives a peasant car or takes the peasant wagon (bus).
He reminds me of a young Tom cruise for some reason....
I see it lol
+Logan Kelly
Or Christian Bale. lol You know, the guy from the movie 'American Psycho'?
Its the jaws and eyes
1969 Mach 1 is amazing.
and the 71 too
A 2 valve is hard to make power out of? What planet are you living on? If I where doing as good as you with reviews I would probably keep the comments related to things where I knew what I was talking about.
Clayton Yates Well, clearly you don't... If you think that compared to the 4 valve, which is what he was comparing it to, the 2 valve isn't harder to make power out of, you're just insane.
Clayton Yates The planet where 2vs are hard to make power on
Well you can watch my videos. My Mustang 2v makes 612 to the tire cost like 5k. 2v are easy to make power with or I wouldn't have commented in the first place
Sweet Dreams not like I have any experience with it haha
Clayton Yates What!?!? 5k please tell me how!?!?!? Mine has 220k and is going to die soon. And a rebuild is just as much as a crate 2v almost and i dont want to pay 6k when i can buy a coyote for 7. What do i do!?!??
Say what you want about the 2V but I had one with 373s, exhaust and a tune and I stayed with a mach one 1 with a full exhaust until halfway thru third. I was impressed.
2005-2010 mustangs are the worst looking mustangs!
Bullshit
i mean 2005-2009! they just look so dull and gay the 99-04 look so much better!
Idk your opinion.. I own a 2006 with a couple appearance mods they look so classic that's what I like it bout them
ps31871 Dull and gay? Lol nice terminology. Have you seen the 94-98 Mustangs? Those are worse. Way worse.
Zach Giddings
SN95's aren't that bad. Mustang II is by far the worst
My 04 Mach 1 is a head spinner. Get compliments all the time. Definitely an awesome car. Nice review.
It was screaming yellow.Unfortunately, I just sold it a couple weeks ago. I miss that thing already. Yeah, I registered mine at the Mach 1 Registry. Now i'm gonna go cry! Just kidding. I might be getting an 2015 GT soon. If I can get the auto loan.
dude looks like jeff gordon
True.
Putting a turbo or turbos on a 2V isn't any harder then boosting any other engine. And I have seen 2V's make well over 1000whp with a Kenny Bell blower. And that's with stock ported PI heads!
If you like that find someone with a 1998-2000 ls1 in camaro or trans am I'm sure you will be impressed mach 1 wouldn't touch it
Those are both great cars-I recommend them often for bang for your buck speed.
I've raced those and it's a driver's race. I have a T56 in mine now so it really is a driver's race, gotta know your car's powerband
+Brody Sowards (Kouhi) keep being a fanboy.
cobras could always stick with ls engines, even beat them, more so the 99-01 snakes and the machs ect.
Lol ima look for a 2003-2009 LS camaro.... Oh wait....
Beat 3 Machs back in the day with my 99 GT
dat sound.... is amazing
Another thing a lot of people don't know is that it has an aluminum 6 bolt block (WAP) and the Terminator does not. And the block only weighs 80lbs!
Oh and if you desire to go to Woodward this year if you want you can either review a 2011 roush stage 2 mustang phase 2 roush charger, turbocharged 2004 neon rt, 67 chevelle 396 ss #'s matching, or a 92 convertible mustang
He gives the best most relatable reviews
I had no problem getting power out my 2 valve.
Send me a message if your interested in purchasing, I live in CA ventura county area.
one good thing about 2v gts they have soo many afternarket parts and they are much cheaper then cobra or mach1's availability
+revelationns true but still it's all about the 4v in this era of the mustang.

definetly agree with you there. after my 2v i said screw this and bought a 01 cobra, sadly that got wrecked and am driving another 2v for the time being. i miss that 4v everyday.

good luck i hope you do. forget a lambo, or ferrari give me a terminator thats modded up the ass and im happy.
Isn’t the engine in the Mach 1 the same engine that’s in the 96-98 Cobras?
Could you possibly swap the 4.6 4v heads on to a 4.6 2v?
Love those shaker hood scoops. Thought about adding one to my '12 GTCS but cant quite bring myself to cutting up the hood. Great review as always, keep up the great videos!!
Hey man, I came across your channel a week ago when I first watched the vette C6 review. I gotta say, awesome channel and work man, lovin it!
Keep it up
an x, with stingers or atks is the best sounding exhaust on these new edges.
possibly add long tubes aswell.
such an awesome sound associated with these mustangs.
almost nothing sounds better.
There needs to be a review of a properly modded/built Mach 1
new edge mustangs are my favorite of all time
Been following your vids for some time now. Great content.
That’s all that matters to me
Bassani xpipe and Borla Stingers is the best exhaust combo for 4 valves.
+Alex Leyva (WJawd) sound good on 2vs too.
It sounds a bit different though. You can tell its a 2 valve. That combo on 4 valves though literally sounds heavenly. lol. Seriously, one of my favorite V8 sounds. Especially on Cobras.
not too much different, cobras just sound a lil more beasty.
makes sense.
def my fav too.
Mach 1s have a very nice interior as well as 03-04 Cobras imo
I had an 03 GT, never liked how it shifted. Very mechanical and loose to go into gears. Clutch was rather heavy which got old really quick going through town.
Ford has now made much better shifting transmissions across the board.
As compared to my current 98 NSX, 08 Cooper S both transmissions and shifting a world of difference. It's clutch much easier to deal with and shifts are nice and positive.
I want an 99-04 Mustang again...I wasn't a fan of it until i owned one. Now I really want a GT more a Mach 1.
