+Joe Daly you are incorrect. stock they sound very good. ive heard it in person because ive had a 01 cobra same exact engine minus internals, and supercharger. the exhaust makes it sound even better.
Terminator flybys are the best. Seeing one coming up on you, at first all you hear is blower whine, then followed by that split second where it passes with both whine and exhaust coming together, then finally ending with a screaming tyrannosaurus rex.

Just correcting some facts that David P. pointed out. The independent rear suspension actually debuted in the 99 Cobra so it has been through a few life cycles. For the new edge the 04 Cobra has the best IRS. IF you have stock or mildly modded one they are very reliable. Styling wise which is subjective the 99-04 Saleen S351 will rival the 03/04 Cobra in looks and aggressiveness but will not make the 03/04 Cobra less aggressive. Lastly, they changed almost every panel on the car except the doors and decklid. The folding mirrors are different, the side skirts, hood, rear spoiler and rear bumper are all different.

Its really subjective. Many companies make their own interpretation of the mustang so it depends on your tastes.

One of the best Mustangs ever built, in my opinion. Incredible looks, great engine, great modding potential, IRS. It's just a shame that they're still incredibly expensive, as I'd love to buy one, I just can't justify $20,000-$25,000 for a 10+ year old mustang.

So your telling me that you would spend almost 65k (depending on what your finale purchase) on a new cobra with about (650 hp) when you could spend about 25k on a used one and dump 10k more in it lol and still have a better car! Stephen Hyche Not sure if you actually meant that comment for me or not, it doesn't make much sense. No, I would not spend $65k on a new Cobra, that's sheer lunacy. As a matter of fact, I think anyone spending the ~$35k on a new GT needs to have their head checked. If I wanted to spend $25k on a 10+ year old car, I'd buy a Porsche 911. If I wanted a 10+ year old Mustang, I'd be willing to spend about $5k-$6k and then mod it. Could probably wind up with a modded GT that looks and performs on par with the 03-04 Cobra for half the price of said Cobra, THAT'S why I can't justify the $20k-$25k for the actual Cobra.

-BuiltNotBrought Type R- it's been awesome. what made this the worst choice is that this car is in fact not a daily driver. i've had a bunch of shit break, like o rings on the injectors, battery, alternator, and i've had the hardest time getting it to pass emissions so be sure you live somewhere where you don't have to get emissions testing. i don't feel comfortable in this car. i feel like it is always going to break or shut down or something. but other than that, it's an awesome car. i've gotten so many compliments on it. still way better than the auto v6 i had before this lol

Never liked Termis or heard about it until a good friend brought one to the shop and i hand-built the 4.6 for a rebuild with better pistons and a valve job and many many more improvements. When it first started it ran without a problem (and still running to this day). A couple days later he handed me the keys and let me drive it. He told me you mostly put in the work it so drive it.
It put the biggest smile on my face when the FIRST engine we built put power down like a monster. I take pride in that motor we built because it's a goddamn monster. I grew to like this car.
One of your best reviews man. I love my 2003 Mustang GT - even if its not fast the nature of the delivery and the noise makes you smile so much.

God I wish American cars had semi decent interiors. This car is awesome...until you see the interior but I suppose you don't care when it sounds that good.

It shouldn't and doesn't have to be a family car to have a decent interior. Look at the C63 Coupe. Its basically the German equivalent to this car and (although optional) you can get wood trim in the interior, and it has leather all over the place from the very base model. I suppose you get what you pay for though, American muscle cars cost next to nothing when compared to something European of the same spec. *cough* *cough* C63.

I remember being super into imports and wanted a r33 gtst (the one i could afford) and saw that you had to dump $14k in order to get 530whp reliably. Huge mod list. Then i got into mustangs and now this is my dream car. My jaw dropped to the floor when i found out you can make around 500-530 wheel just by porting the blower, smaller pulley, and bolt ons.
Those 4.6 V8 engines sound beautiful, even the 2 and 3 valve versions

My uncle bought one of these brand new in ‘03. He let me drive it. I’m still in love with that car. Only problem he ever had with it was transmission. Replaced under warranty. I still remember the signatures on the valve cover.

My 02 gt is coyote swapped and has a vmp supercharger thinking it would relieve the itch of not having an 03 cobra but I still want one so bad. I memorized this entire video I've watched it so much.
This is still my favorite video you’ve ever done...love going back to this one...driving my gt around town today and you’ll never guess what I saw in my rear view mirror..a black terminator cobra...it was beautiful and in amazing shape. If all goes well I will have one in my garage next year.
I wanted a Cobra when i was looking for my 5.0 and I still kind of wish I would of went with the Cobra. The ultimate decision was that I already had an 04 GT and the cobra was my crush. I will one day own a Cobra but the want for one is just making work harder and at some point I will give in and let the snake bite.
I just need about 1 years worth of paycheck's to buy one. For the meantime I just have to take care of my 97 cobra till the dream comes true.

Thanks man, but a v6 can be deadly if you do the right builds. My friends 2011 stang v6 is killing 2012+ 5.0s on a daily. All he's got is bolt-ons, bama tune and 3.73 gears. I've never seen a v6 go so hard

Fantastic review of your friend's Terminator. This is, by far, one of my most favorite cars of all time. I had the opportunity to own a '98 Cobra, which after some work, was no slouch by any means. This car however is what my Cobra dreamed to be.
With all that said, your production quality was excellent AND you have a great personality. Plus, you drove the SHIT OUTTA THAT SNAKE! WHOOHOO! Wish I could've been there hoss!

"It's like the personification of Darth Vader in a car.." One of the greatest things I have ever heard on UA-cam. It's a perfect description.
Older video, but they changed more than the bumper and the "wing". They changed the hood, rocker panels, front fascia, rear fascia and spoiler. The rear view mirrors are also different and painted, and as part of the spoiler changes, the 3rd brake light is LED and relocated to be in the spoiler. As part of all of that, the Cobra is actually a little bit longer than other New Edge mustangs, the hood is longer due to a mistake in manufacturing. Also, the exhaust is different which is cosmetic because it is distinctly different looking from the back, the pipes are horizontal under the tank.

+Chris Duval The exhaust is different, but not for cosmetic reasons. The exhaust is made to clear the IRS set up in the back. The GT's and even the Mach's have a solid axle, so the exhaust goes over the axle, then down to the outlets. (sources, I own one)

Bought mine in 2020, and it is an amazing machine! The long gears and Whipple just put a huge smile on anyone who is in it. TDB is spot on when he stomps the gas, you get a look of concern, then you're laughing at what just happened.

I have an original 97 Cobra...I bought it on purpose recently. I've wanted one for a long time. Although my favorite will always be the 03-4' Terminator Mustang. As mentioned the potential of the Terminator is amazing. When I grow up I hope own by the time I'm 70..I'm 63 now and may never grow up. Nice Terminator in the video!

i don't think it would beat the coyote in the 1/4, but around a track probably. the IRS on the terminator helps a lot

One minor gripe I have about these cars, I don't like the letters on the back bumper, it looks a bit tacky....that's just my opinion though, still a RADICALLY AWESOME car!

My favorite car you've reviewed
I don't know exactly what it is, but the terminator cobra (especially murdered out ones like this) are the most sinister and meanest cars, like, ever. They just have such a presence on the road, they sound so fucking good, and they're so ridiculously fast for a car that came out over a decade ago. I think these will easily go down as some of the best Mustangs ever produced. Ford needs to bring us something like this again.

Terminators are only scary if they are a dark color, and a coup. Convertible terminators dont look as good. And if they are yellow or a bright color, its even worse.

Naser Abdulla Stage 6 steg., 2.7 upper pulley, 4LB lower.
He put on smaller pulleys
I did a port and upper and lower pulley on mine and had about that. Don't forget the fuel upgrades!
