Aegon IV is such an anomaly given that his dad, brother, son, and eldest grandson are all some of the best Targaryens to ever live. I wonder if that contributed to his general terrible-ness, knowing that he couldn't measure up. Hopefully Young Griff breaks the even-numbered Aegons curse.

Aegon l is the one to allow the targaryens to conquer westeros aegon lll allowed the realm to heal from the dance aegon V is the only one to have actually cared about the peasents whilst aegon ll started the war that killed the dragons and was a war criminal and aegon lV started the blackfyre rebellions which plagued the realm for 50 years

This is just my opinion, but not only do I think Aegon IV poisoned his father, but I think the reason why Aegon IV poisoned Viserys II is quite simple: Viserys was the last person who was controlling him. Perfect example, look at the mistresses of Aegon IV: He married off Aegon's first mistress to the master-at-arms at the Red Keep, Ser Lucas Lothston, and had her removed from court. He also put an end to Aegon's affair with his second mistress Megette and sent her back to her husband. As King, Aegon IV figured he could just do whatever he wanted with no one telling him what to do. It's the same reason he despised his son and heir Daeron II, because he dared to speak against him and call him out.

I find it interesting nobody accuses Dena of killing visarys IMO she has more of a motive to kill him then aegon 4 does , for one visarys userped her using her sex and the great council to justify himself now of course I don't think visarys 2 did it because he hates women more likely he did it to protect his family and to prevent war but Dena wouldn't see it that way , considering that she named her son after her grandfather it's possible that she actually admired her grandparents maybe even saw them as tragic heros and perhaps saw herself in her grandmother and hated her uncle from taking what she felt was rightfully hers , she couldn't overthrown her uncle on a dragon like rhenyrea and she couldn't weld a sword like daemon but there are other ways to kill your enemies after all poison is said to be a woman's weapon and what's more defiant then killing a king who is also your uncle?

IMO, Aegon IV is the worst Targaryen king, even worse than Aerys II. Aerys WANTED to be a good king, he was merely incompetent at it. He was at least smart enough to hire one of the best Hands ever to help him out, only to get jealous, and then go insane. From the very moment he was born, Aegon seemed to want to actively ruin anything and everything around him purely out of a mix of spite and hedonism.

It's logically reasonable too and something I'd be supportive of. Considering how his "subtle romance" with Naerys was mentioned, it's likely Aemon had a short affair with Naerys, getting her pregnant in the process, shortly before Aegon IV came in and he took his Kingsguard oath. It's also possible that Naerys' other children with Aegon might be Aemon's as well, considering how Aegon IV was busying himself with his mistresses.

The thing is that his reign is so pathetic (until the Blackfire Rebellion). Maegor and Aerys II are dangerous because you never knew when they would unleash hell on the seven kingdom. Aegon IV just likes to torment people who either 1) couldn't physically and politically fight him back (lower born young women) or 2) people who don't want to fight him because they value family love and integrity more (his son and brother). His entire personality is to spite people because they don't reciprocate his feelings

Usually the Targaryen Kings always had problems when it came to choosing their successors and thus they created a lot of wars or conflicts that plague Westeros for many years to come, but the Aegon the Unworthy spits in the face of both his Father and Uncle trauma of the Dance of the Dragons when he purposefully name all of his bastard children as legalized Targaryen, and he probably thought that both his sons Daeron and Daemon will be in each other throats for the kingship of the Iron Throne.

and let’s not forget the famously word he once said in the mystery knight
“You would be surprised to know how many lords prefer their kings brave and stupid. @@nicokrasnow1851 just cause he was on good terms with bittersteel doesn’t mean Brynden would hate daemon inherently. I doubt it. The little shit seemed really uninterested in anything beside himself. Aegon's whims directed his attention to and fro this or that mistress, misdeed, or mistake. Meanwhile, Joffrey was always focused on Joffrey. Aegon's cruelties were also less bloody-handed. Sure, the Unworthy did his fair share of injustices directed towards a lot of people, but maiming, torture, and execution seemed to take a secondary role, and there was a certain method to his madness. Joffrey on the other hand was utterly unpredictable. His interest in women and sex appeared nonexistent, and he was probably more turned on by ordering someone killed than by a pretty face. I mean, even when he does show any desire (like when he groped Sansa during her wedding to Tyrion), it's motivated by a desire to torment and hurt rather than any kind of lust.
So yeah, Joffrey wouldn't have been like Aegon IV... he would have been worse.

Aegon the Unworthy wins my simple metric for who was the worst king. He interfered with the previous regime for the worse (fathering a bastard with the queen, potentially poisoning Viserys), his rule was bad and fostered a horrible culture in the court and finally, his treatment of his bastards and his own son would lead the realm into ruin in the near future. He fails past, present and future for his rule. Other derided kings usually mess up one or two.

I think Aegon IV is the most interesting king. Other Targaryen kings - Maegor the Cruel and Aerys II - stand out as more egregious examples of bad kings, but something about Aegon is particularly vile. He’s so petty and small-minded, and his inadvertent cause of the Blackfyre Rebellions caused grief for over one hundred years. Tyrion’s wedding gift was so ridiculously perfect , Joffrey probably could have learned much from reading about Aegon the Unworthy.

I think Maegor probably always intended to secede Aenys and didn't tell him, but they didn't have problems with each other until Maegor took a second wife and got exiled. Even after that, I bet Aenys viewed Maegor in a similar way as how Viserys viewed Daemon. He always wanted to reconcile. Maegor was bitter about his being exiled, but he never tried to take arms up against his half-brother.

Aegon seduced Lady Jeyne when she was 14, and though the year was 178, who's to say Aegon and Falena didn't have a dalliance in the 160s that went unrecorded or unnoticed?

Honestly I think Aegon may have been telling the truth the entire time about Daeron. Nobody believed him because nobody liked him and everyone liked Daeron. Remember histroy doesnt remember BLOOD it remembers NAMES. Because Daeron was given the name Targaryen despite possibly being a bastard and having literally NO WAY of proving one way or the other means its hard to remove the name Targaryen from him. Meanwhile Daemon chooses to Name himself Blackfyre which ends up creating a Narrative that the Blackfyres are these "Others" and aren't equal to Targaryens despite both Daeron (bastard or not) and Daemon having Targaryens as both their Mother and Father. They both are 100% Targaryen and it would be totally GRRM if the Seven Kingdoms this entire time hated and had Bias against bastards mostly becauze of the Blackfyres only for the readers to find out that Daeron and Daemon were BOTH bastards with Daemon being the actual heir

Given what a mess of a man Aegon already was as the crown prince, its not out of the question that Viserys II really did not want him to be his successor.
