SAME HORESPOWER, BUT DIFFERENT! JOHN DEERE 2038R VS 3038E

  • Let's compare the John Deere 2038r tractor vs the John Deere 3038e tractor. This is the John Deere 2r Series vs the John Deere 3e Series which means you can also include the models 2032r, 3032e, and 3025e. Another direct horsepower comparison would be the 2032r vs the 3032e. Although you could compare the 2025r to the 3025e, the 2025r is not a full framed 2r Series and the differences are substantial. Perhaps, we'll cover that in another video.
    Essentially, you're comparing a Premium Series in a smaller frame to a Value Series in a larger frame. There is overlap in capabilities between the two machines, some surprises with what the smaller tractor can do that the larger one cannot, and also a huge gap in standard features found on the tractors. If you're having a tough time understanding the differences between these two machines, then take a look at this video comparing the 2038r vs 3038e and see if it answers any questions.

    I started with 1023, then onto 2032R then I made the mistake of switching brands. I thought I wanted a cab and found something way cheaper than Deere. Well you get why you pay for. Had that machine for maybe a year when I couldn’t take it any more (so many broken parts and issues) and got the 2038R. This tractor I love. So versatile and strong. I have a land plane, rear finish mower, bush hog, from mounted snow blower, grapple, plow blade, and bucket. This tractor does everything I need it to do and more. Plus John Deere stands behind what they build! I can also say that if it’s your first tractor take time to think about all of the things you could do, not just what you want at the moment. These are investments and will be around for a while. I never thought about how much I could do when I got my 1023 and quickly out grew it’s capabilities but with the 2038R you have small form factor and power ! I get on good works tractors website and click the button to buy you won’t regret it!!

    I owned a 1023E, 1026R, 2025R( 2015) , and jumped to a 3E( 2018) , big difference in loader height and side to side stability. Added the John Deere armrest kit ( $99 bucks), Added a Goodworks recommended seat cover, Added a HEATED SEAT pad! , Added a 300CX BLI ( Bucket Level indicator) $80, LED front lights using the factory wiring for them, Horn from a John Deere Gator, and a AIR RIDE seat, CHEAP. Took out the 4 hard "Christmas trees" and put in a blow up adjustable lumbar support pillow, $ 15 bucks, now I ride on air!

    Great review 👍 I purchased a 3038E back in 2010, was looking for a heavy enough machine for deep Maine snow, but I didn't want bells and whistles, just horsepower and weight, paid 13,995 with the 305 loader. Absolutely a wonderful work horse! Very happy with it! Thanks for the awesome review.

    Good video. I have the 2018 3038e open tractor. I installed 4 led lights from Northern Tool on rops. I dont need mid PTO to cut grass. I have a 40acre open property. Lease out 26 acres to farmer. Rest is woods. Just use Bush hog to cut weeds and tiller for deer plots. I have the ag1 tires because of clay type soil. Better traction in that greasy clay. Happy with tractor.

    First, let me say I first heard of you from TTWT. Second, I have a 2038R and love it. It has done everything I asked for it do it. I have a quickattach stump grinder and have done at least 30 stumps with it. One was a 40” sweet gum and I got the whole thing out roots and all. I love the autothrottle. It should be standard on every tractor. My only complaint is I wish the cigarette adapter was a USB plug. LOL. If that’s all to complain about I got it made. Oh, and I bought a replacement for that plug for $16.59 on Amazon. It’s an awesome little tractor.

      A friend has just bought (Feb '21) a new 3038e and it couldn't knock the skin off of a rice pudding it is so weak! I'm comparing it to my Kubota 3540 which theoretically should be slightly lower powered but there is no comparison. I cultivated my friends field which is stone free light soil and the JD had to be set on high throttle, low gear in order not to stall out. My Kubota would do that in mid range 4th gear, no sweat. It feels and sounds wrong but this guy is getting no help from the local agency. JD is a reputable brand so I suppose this is a faulty machine, or at least needs some adjustments. Did you solve your lack of power Ricky?

    Awesome video THANKS. I had an 2038R for approx. 2 years. 1st I love this tractor. I had the older 2000 series. This is a much better tractor. Really the only 2 con's for me. Tires, in that, I wish it had these new R14 treads. Why, I'm in a some what of a sandy soil area- at best it does ok- example- it has not be in 4WD if in more of sandy soil please note this is without loader. I also believe its due to it's very narrow front tires. This tractor sinks like a rock in sandy conditions. JOHN DEERE design bigger rims for the 2038R. 2nd. The mower weights a ton. I saw a loader attachment that would lift the mower (GREAT IDEA) but only for the 1 series tractor. So, I create a very simple attachment to use the loader to lift the mowing deck so that I can clean, change mower blade or sharpen WITHOUT killing my back.

    I have a 2019 JD 2038r with a mid mount deck. I live in western Pennsylvania and have some hills on my property. The only problem I have is with the mid mount deck. While Sideways on hills, The pto shaft and the gear box on the deck come out of alignment. When this happen it will make a loud rattling noise. I just wish I would have bought a rear finishing mower. Other then that the tractor is very strong and friendly to use.

      There is a bolt on the female part of the auto connect system that was installed backwards on my 2038r such that it hit the driveshaft when in a bind on a hill. If you take this out and put it in the other direction, this noise may go away.

    I was of the same opinion about the JD 2-range vs. Kubota 3-range transmission until I used one. You're absolutely right that you do almost all your work in mid range with the Kubota. Problem is, the low range is so low as to be virtually useless and the high range is too high. Personally, I think JD has a better solution and, you're more likely to have the JD in the correct range when working it. Doing so is going to improve wear and tear on that hydrostat too.

    • @charleswhitehead7441
      @charleswhitehead7441 3 роки тому

      The three ranges on my Kubota 3540 are high range, on road traveling, Mid range is for ploughing, cultivating, loader use, Low range is for slow moving operations like planting, etc, where you are travelling at a pace to match the work on hand.

    This is interesting, I know John Deere has a 6250r and a 7250r, a 8410r, and a 9410r, all these are expensive and large row crop tractors, but depending on the job application, less weight and more power are needed or vice versa, so this is cool that Deere does this model overlap to provide the best tractors for their customers, to adapt their tractors to every application, no matter what, whether chisel plowing, or mowing lawn, this is cool

  • @joelg1432

    I own a 3032e and I have used a 2038R quite a bit. They both get the job done. I like the weight of the 2R series (had backhoe hardware) but like the wider stance of the 3E series. At the end of the day I went with the 3E because of the lesser price. Oh and I don't think you can get AG tires on the 2 series just industrial tires. 3 series can have either.

    Between the 2 and 3 series, which one do you think would be more stable going across hills, I mow currently with my 1025r and it does great but I’d like to get the 72 inch deck, but I’m sketchy about getting a taller tractor to do so.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  4 роки тому +3

      If you're looking at a 72" belly mower, then it would be the 2r or 3r. I think the 3r would be a little more stable laterally, although both would be an improvement over the 1025r. They are sitting higher, but they weigh substantially more, and sit wider. Plus, if you load the tires and perhaps install spacers (and still fit the mower), then you might have a winning combination.

    Hey Courtney, once again; nice job on the presentation! I've been pushing my brother to FINALLY buy a 🚜; spread wood chips in the Spring, no longer have to pay a landscaper to cut & plow, take out the recycling/trash every Tuesday, downed trees/firewood, spread soil and the list just keeps on going! I'm pushing him hard Courtney on the JD 2038 R. Does the ROPS fold down? I assume this will tuck into a regular size garage/door? Yup, told em' it's time to 🚜 UP!!! Enough already,,,,,,,😅😂 🤣. Courtney, the boy's got one of those martyr type complexes; where EVERYTHING should be done with either the snow shovel or his 20 year old wheelbarrow. When the topic is discussed, potential 🚜 ownership; I can actually see this 🌊 w🌊a🌊v🌊e of guilt slowly work across his face. I gotta tell ya'; it's absolutely freekin' priceless 🤗!!! It's NOT the $$$, that he has! It took me 6 months to mentally shove him into a 2021 GMC pickup. Ha! I swing by on a July 93° day & he's out there on his 12th wheelbarrow load of chips to spread; just after a 15 yard delivery! You must of run across this "type", in you're travels; over the years. Some call it "buyers remorse", you know; the "guilts" after buying something expensive. It's NOT even that, he hasn't bought anything yet! Hey, love em' to death, we all should have a brother/friend like him; the 🌎 world 🌍 would be a much better place. Thought I'd share a "quick" funny with you this morning. When we last chatted, I mentioned a 🌨️blizzard ❄️ 🥶 ❄️ 🌨️ being 24 hours away. Well, today we're supposed to get 10" - 12". No biggie for the x595; but, it's now the wet vs dry 🌨️ snow 🌨️ ☹️. Over the years I kind of accepted the fact that when plowing, wet 6"+; I have to carve it up in sections in order to get rid of it. That was UNTIL I saw one of you're snow removal prep list of recommendations. One of your dozen or so suggestions was wheel weights; I can't wait to put em' on!!! I never really thought it was a horsepower issue (Yanmar 24 hp); wasn't sure what it actually was. I started to dread the 🌨️ wet 🌨️ snow coming; it would take me almost 3x longer to get rid of it, vs the blower with the "dry". As I told you the plan for the late Fall this year is Kubota RTV x1200 c with the blower; x595 with the 54" blade; wheel weights & all,,,,,,,🤗 😎. Courtney, keep doin' what you're doin'; I really enjoy watching you're UA-cam channel. I really have learned so much from you, since I started watching 2 months ago. I'll try to keep it short next time! Never knew this tractor stuff would ever put a damn skip in my step until I started watching you're channel?!? Bought the x595 in 2002. I cut grass & blow snow basically with it every year. In the Spring, I have the dealer do an oil & filter + lube; in the Fall they do a full service. They also fix & repair anything that requires it. Tractor has 1,200 easy hours on it; never spent a night outside. Can't say the same about the cars & trucks I've owned since I bought the x595. Yeah Courtney, if you were to ever list my tractor; it wouldn't be collecting any dust at you're shop! Ha! Have a great weekend Courtney.

    notice how much faster the 3E series loader cycles? to me that's one of the best selling points of the 3E. For loader work, the 3E will outwork almost any compact tractor. loader lift capacity is so overrated. plus the short wheelbase gives it a very small turn in radius. for small properties of a few acres and is flat, the 3E series is perfect

      Compacts are made in Augusta, GA. 5E made in India. 6E made in Mexico (I think,) and 6M made in Mannheim Germany. I believe only 8000 and 9000 series tractors are completely made in USA.

      Dear amigos, I'm from South America. I'm about to buy a JD 3036E.
      I need a frontloader.
      Here down under is everything strange and off.
      My dealer can't sell a original JD Loader. But he can sell one out of the production off a engeneering company.
      Just for comparasion...
      Does anybody know the price of new unused JD Loaders?

    I got a question for you sir ? I am 6 foot 5 + 430 lb I'm not a small man By any stretch of the imagination. I am trying to buy a tractor and I'm looking towards the 4320 do you by any chance know what the distance is between like the Steering wheel and the back of the seat as far back as it'll go? And the distance from the edge of the seat cushion to the drive pedals on these two and if there is a difference in them would you let me know? I have no place to go sit on any of these tractors at all to test-drive them I'm looking for a 2005 or older model in the 45 horsepower range. Mainly because of the tractors I've set on that are smaller I can barely get my legs lifted up to get on the pedals , and be comfortable while doing it . Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated or anybody else out there that can answer my questions I would love to hear from you guys any advice for a guy my size and what size frame tractor to buy.

      Good Works Tractors the 2038 is almost 15’ with the loader And brush hog is about 8’ I don’t think a guy could even load a tilt deck with a mower hooked up. Just trying to help with content for you.

      I don't think that's correct. I just measured a 4 Series the other day and that was only about 14' long. I'm guessing it's around 13'. I'd have to get an exact measurement.

    This makes no sense, mind blown. That's unreal that the 2 will work just like the 3e. Wonder if the 3r gets a bump in weight and lifting ability. I'm sure the 2r has another 200+ lbs with the mid pto and a little extra fluid but why get the 3 at that point.

    • @jacksonelkin7460
      @jacksonelkin7460 4 роки тому

      The l3901 is a pretty good tractor but we use it for mainly loader work. You can’t even get a full bucket of dirt because of the hydraulic power (unless it is loose tilled dirt). If you do get a full bucket of dirt it wants to to tip and the back end comes off the ground.

    Sorry, I can't watch anymore of your video, but I thought I'de give you the reason since you went through the trouble of making it. I'll sum things up with this: Tell me the time, don't build me a clock". Simply say what you're going to do, do it, and then explain what you did. In the Army, where you teach people with a large range of ability to learn its called ~ Explanation, Demonstration, and Practical Application. It's been done that way for several generations and has taught people with IQ's varying from superior to the very low, even those termed McNamara's Morons.
