Jetta Project Car: Rear Shock Replacement
Вставка

- In this video, we're replacing the rear shocks in the Jetta. I was originally going to combine the strut and shock replacement into one video, but forgot to buy bump-stops for the shocks. So the shocks had to wait a bit.

Did you enjoy the nature documentary? 😛
We see a lot of those little guys when it gets warm here in western NC too.
Wow, I didn't know they were that far north.
@@michaelblacktree Can't vouch for the species, but we have a few varieties I think.
that's cool
Used it for my car and it went well. Me and my dad thank you.
awesome!
That's easy enough - Thank You..
Yeah, the rear shocks are easy to replace.
that intro was awesome, wish Chicago had more interesting wildlife
thanks!
My jetta is like an ex i had long time ago, i hate and love at the same time
I know exactly how you feel, LOL.
Great walk through of strut installation. What year is your jetta
It's a 2002. IIRC all the Mk4 cars should be similar.
@@michaelblacktree I've got a 2015 Jetta experiencing a similar clunking noise. I will investigate to see if my coil/s are broken. I'm enjoying your channel. Keep up the great content Michael
thanks!
My drivers side control arm has some play at the rear bushing as I moved it back and forth sure enough it's the same clanking I'm hearing while driving
Yep, that's a common issue.
Were the rear springs still good and do you usually just change the struts a couple times before replacing the springs? I need to do this on 11 Jetta TDI and don’t know much about shocks.
Honestly, I think all the springs were good. But I got "quick struts" for the front, because it was cheaper than buying the struts, bump stops, strut bearings, etc separately. Plus it's less work.
@@michaelblacktree Right. I’d imagine the front springs wear out faster then the rears anyhow from pot holes, speed bumps etc. what struts and springs did you go with and do you think the job is similar on 2011 Jetta TDI? I liked the video thank you.
The car is also front heavy. And that will wear things out faster. That said, I think your car is a Mk6? I'm not familiar with that chassis.
@@michaelblacktree yes Mark6 is correct. Do I have to use new mounts in the rear? I know if the bump stops look alright they can be re-used. Just unsure about the mount for rear shock mounts.
I think it's safe to assume if the rear shocks are worn out, the shock mounts are not far behind.
What wheels are those?
Just something I found on ebay. I don't remember the name.
what impact driver are you using ?
Looks like a Harbor Freight special: ie Bauer
@@pzarelli75 thank you
What year is your Jetta?
2002
