Hi, my name is Mike. I've been a youtube content creator since the early days, but wasn't very serious about growing the channel until recently.
I enjoy building things, and fixing stuff. I do most of my own auto repairs, and home repairs. I also enjoy DIY projects. And I usually have at least one project car.
Speaking of project cars, I have an E46 BMW that I'm turning into a race car. I got it cheap, because it was really rough! I'm also modifying my daily driver to make it more fuel efficient.
If this kind of stuff interests you, then you might want to stick around!

Now UA-cam shorts can be up to 3 minutes long! I still had to speed up the video a little bit. BTW, here's the timing kit I used in the video. (it's an affiliate link) amzn.to/4h7F8So
Hope the turbo is in and testing is going well and th video will be up in a few weeks!!!
I'm still collecting parts. It's a big project.
Have you had any issues with the Prius transfer case? The Prius doesn't have a traditional transmission, just a differential with two electric motors. I'm concerned about the health of the motors overtime when using any additive.
I was also wondering how it would affect the electric motors. But so far, so good. That said, I changed my mind on oil additives. Next transmission oil change, I'm not going to put any additives.
So do to a fracture on my toe I paid a local mechanic to do this for me. Lower control arms and shock and struts. To be honest after this was done the car didn’t change a bit it felt as if nothing was replaced . The only thing I didn’t told him to change were the outer tie rods which need to be replaced. Could this be why the car feels the same way as before changing only the lower control arms, shocks and struts?
I tried the 3/8 to 1/4 adapter and it wouldn’t fit even tried beating it in with a hammer😅 I ordered the tool:(
sorry to hear that
Cheers! Caught up all four years of work in less than a week! So excited to start my own CRV maintenance project on my daily
Let's goooooo!
now that is a good wish
I would've painted it black 😉
Only real mechanics find things like this🫡👍
Appreciate the thought, but I'm not a real mechanic. I'm just a hobbyist.
Year of the snail 😂
hehe
Isn't the AC deleted?
When I made this video, the A/C was deleted, but the heater and vents were still intact.
Do you need to remove other parts to replace the dash trim? Mine are faded and I ordered the 4 piece kit from eBay and wondering if I just pull on the old ones or are they attached with screws?
Years later, but the sprayer has a long tube on the inside that reaches to the bottom. If you had cut that tube so that it would not get submersed in the oil, the container may not have collapsed. Anyway, thanks for the idea. I have a project that this might work for.
What year is your car? I wonder when the PS pump design changed...? My Xi is an 01.
It's an '01 330i. From what I've read, the LF20 pump had a pretty short run. But I like the steering feel, so I'm keeping it.
@@michaelblacktree Interesting... I feel like I read once that some people said the steering on the Xi was a little heavier, and "better" (seems subjective, haha)... would be interested to know what cars got what!
@@mry82 - The AWD could be contributing to that, as well. But yeah, steering feel is subjective. I kept the LF20 pump, because I like the steering feedback. But they're notorious for shaft failure.
@@michaelblacktree for sure all that extra/different hardware of a part of it! Ahh, I hate shaft failure, lol.. take it easy man!
Bless you, Michael. I learned a lot from your videos!
Which sender unit and gauge did you use? the location where you installed it is the oil temp sensor or the pressure switch? on the m54 housing.
Just something cheap from amazon, installed in the oil pressure sender location. The stock oil pressure sender piggybacks on the adapter.
@@michaelblacktree Thanks 👍
Regarding the E-12 Socket, I tried a bunch of different brands when doing the trans, for higher torque applications you need a socket that fits all the way so it doesn't slip and round off the bolt. Sunnex 1/2 inch and Lisle 3/8 are the only 2 designs I found that work well. Lisle had the best fit but it's terrible quality for US made sockets. Pittsburgh, Craftsman (old and new) and Lexivon, don't fit all the way. Snap on and Hazet also work. 10 mm spline drive also works in a pinch on E12 but would not use it for higher torque applications.
Thanks!
great work, how long were your hoses? merry Christmas
Thanks! I forgot to measure them. But here's a link to the oil cooler kit. www.ebay.com/itm/167051637989
Merry Christmas, everyone!
@@michaelblacktree just found your channel from this video. Huge fan now
Awesome!
you too... stay warm.......... hahaha.
MOTORKOTE !!!
Thank you sir! Supercharged diesel incoming 😁
The Mercedes diesel?
@michaelblacktree indeed.
I have a gen 3 but it's not enough I don't think. I'm really looking for a tvs1900 from a land Rover/jag but I think the gen5 will do the job . I just want to fill the bottom end boost gap. The throttle response is terrible under 3000 and worse under 2000.
Very cool.
I'm thinking about getting the wrap-around rear spoiler off ebay, $300 new. They look like they could lower the drag coefficient quite a bit
My friend swapped in electronic steering assist out of a Nissan Versa into his 86 GT. That's what I want to do next with my formula, I'd probably shave a full second off autocross event times
So a small amount of excess drag when they pop up?
THIS! What do you call that scoop on the front of your hood?? I know it it equals the pressure so your headlights don't pop up at 90 mph or whatever
It was a DIY hood vent.
I forgot the name of the whatever air scoop, anyway it goes on the front of the hood and equalizes the pressure so your pop-up headlights don't come out at 90 mph (among other benefits)
I love these videos I'm looking to squeeze every extra highway miles per gallon out of my 86 (rebuilt carbureted 350 with the 'RV' cam and Muncie 4-speed)
Have you tried the yellow ones from Auxito? The white ones shown in your video seem a bit harsh on the eyes, I'm looking for some warm white ones like the stock lights, but brighter...
Thanks for the vid and *not* having annoying music!
Good video. One question, how have you adapted the engine cover so that it can be quickly removed?
I retrofitted the mounting hardware from the PD engine cover. Only requires minor mods to the cover. www.idparts.com/engine-cover-attachments-engcvrblt-06a103951-06a103226-p-770.html
@@michaelblacktree Sorry, I was looking at the previous comments and came to the same question. They are a little expensive, but AliExpress and the OEM number have my solution. Thank you very much for the attention and the quick response!
It'd help if you used the correct weight oil for the car. It takes only 5W-30 oil. I have a 2007 myself. I also stick with original OEM filters, which are literally about $7 at Walmart.
I’m planning on putting 2 onto my sbc 350 any tips what to check for buying used
Check the rotors, to see if the coating is peeling off. It's a common issue.
Where did you purchase it?
Are you talking about the front splitter? It's a common item on ebay.
For up-to-date info on the Basket Case BMW project, check out the build thread at E46 Fanatics. www.e46fanatics.com/threads/build-thread-the-basket-case-bmw-project.1284565/#replies
Thank you very much
What does it leak out in the first place?
To warm up my car in winter, i let the window defroster and then cabin heater run for about 10 minutes or until air flow comes out warm. The heater keeps the engine running and help's with warming up the fluids on both engine and transmission.
what seal kit this you buy I have ZF 32136759815 input shaft leaking
I used the same kit (from ebay) the 50s Kid used in his video. There's a link in the pinned comment.
Does the 68ohms, 5w resistor I keep the climate control and energy system showing on screen?? Cuz I install double din I lost both
IIRC it's just to keep the steering wheel controls functional.
Hi buddy. I’m confused become my small screen that came with the car says check connection to the ac. Steering wheel controls work for a/c. Auto and tamp.
If your wire welder is feeding crappy you can try blowing some air through the liner in the whip. Lots of times it will become filled with a dusty residue and cause feeding problems, in my experience. Good video.
thanks 👍
Thank you it was really helpful
U made it worse
That's what she said.
What do up set your tire pressure to?
40 psi front / 38 psi rear
engine and transmission ☠️ this vid isb2 years old and I bet u already scrapped this car
I still drive it every day.
Thank you!
I removed the + terminal first and made a short circuit :(
whoopsie!
