As a DM running this campaign, not only is this hilarious, well-edited, and well-written, but it is genuinely useful for helping me remember the major plot points of this convoluted campaign 😅
I know nothing about Icewind and I may even end up playing it or running it someday, and I feel that the spoilers did not at all diminish any of the upcoming excitement. Excellent summary, only makes me want to buy the module more. Would hire you to advertise for DnD. 10/10
Glad to hear it! Icewind Dale definitely seems like a great adventure with how much variety there is. I would ask a DM to run it, just so my character could try and find that spaceship!
@@GreenDM oh, yes I saw that and had to look up who she was, and managed to do so by assuming her name is "Dale" and I have not been disappointed watching her vids >:]
@@PapaJakx cool! Depending on what level they are by the end of Phandelver, you might need to either boost the strength of a lot of monsters, or eliminate some of the early combat encounters. Unless you want them to feel really strong, before the true cold of winter sets in.
Finally finished the campaign, after delays and a hiatus. The supersized barbarian slam-dunked Auril's final form into the mythallar, disintegrating the both of them. Showed this video to my group afterward as a way to recap the whole thing since we started 3.5 years ago. Many laughs were had. :D Still the best guide to Icewind Dale Rime of the Frostmaiden!
This was actually BETTER than the usual info dump lore channels who cover this stuff without spoiling anything. The irony of using humor and creative imagery.
@@GreenDM I agree 100%. Keep doing what you are doing. YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE IT. I didn't even search you up, it was in the recommends. I'm glad. I usually get drama channels and I just can't stand it 🤢
Just started a table with newish players and I'm trying to turn a 2 session module into this full adventure and will be returning to this video a lot in the future.
I played this module around a year ago, and it still holds one of my favourite D&D moments ever in the caves of Hunger. It was when our party somehow beat the Remorhaz encounter without any casualties. (Sorcerer cast banishment to take out the largest threat and the Wizard and warlock did a combo of the wizard casting spike growth, and the warlock using grasp of hadar and repelling blast to just drag them back and fourth through the thorny cheese grater) In that encounter, that blasted vampire Gnoll decided to come back and have another shot of killing us, at this point in every other combat it rocked up, tried to murder us all, and when it was getting low it just turned into mist and dipped which was frustrating to say the least. For reference, I was playing a fallen aasimar light domain Cleric with the metamagic adept feat, to which I took distant spell, and this was my second ever game. Same old same old Gnoll got low, misted and started to run and at that moment I thought "That's it, I'm killing this motherf**er today" and through experimentation (and a very high level guiding bolt) I discovered that it doesn't resist radiant in it's mist form. It dashed up through a tunnel out of line of sight, and when everything looked bleak and it looked like it escaped again it was the fighter's turn, in which she GRABBED my character, and THREW him up the tunnel full force. To which I did the strangest yet most badass combo ever of distant spell + guardian of Faith that juuuuuust managed to clip them and deal that last chunk of damage to finally finish that bastard off. That kill got me so hyped that it turned my lazy, sleepy and cowardly cleric that practically spent the first ever encounter with Auril (DM decided to have some fun with us at low level) cowering in the corner. To an absolute chad that in the final encounter stared her directly in the eyes and told her "Let me show you the power of a *true* God..." I'm telling you, that was my second ever campaign, but there were so many amazing memories that came from it.
My friends and I are gonna run this campaign after we finish Out of the Abyss!!! I can’t wait to play my Halfling Rune Knight, there are a lot of Giants in this Module 😱.
If you do, I recommend adding the "Fling" attack from Storm King's Thunder. It adds so much to the giants feeling giant when they pick up a PC and yeet them across the map.
For a series called "Tyranny of Dragons" there is a awful lot of no tyranny or dragons, but instead of Dragons why don't you have a bunch of cultists and treat them like Pringles but with more killing of them and not stopping at just one. Seems to sum up the first book well enough.
"... while she's casts Seasonal Depression all the time!" god this is too damn accurate, my players complain all the time that i describe it as dark and cold - but it just IS you guys
Running this as my first campaign as a DM. Anywho, I’m personally, very excited and this video is going to help me remember the major points and story flow! Also very funny
It seems like a lot of fun! If you ever do run it, let me know how it goes! Or if you need input! Though I understand UA-cam comments may not be the best help 😅
I adore this campaign. My only critique of it is that you have the opportunity to slay Auril half way through. My players ended up killing her so I am having to use Avarice as the new big bad
I think it's really complicated if you go everywhere and do everything. Many places can be missed and you can still reach the end. Especially ten towns, most of those places are just to help level characters up before they head into the wintry wastelands. I had a very hard time running Curse of Strahd as written, so I'm not sure which is harder to be honest.
Sounds like my group and I will be driving our dm crazy then. We plan to do absolutely everything we can get away with. I probably doesn’t help that the reputation we have established with each speaker is that they can give us a task and it will be done pretty damn fast and wrapped up nicely. The missions we have completed actually ended up all panning out exceptionally well. Ended up with best case scenario versions. I’m as shocked as anyone. I’m just waiting for another shoe to drop because this level of good dice god luck seems too good to be true. Maybe we are just a good team? I wouldn’t know. It’s my first dnd game I have ever played.

"Oh no, my backstory is coming to fruition." LOL, oh my gosh that's good.
It's one of the backgrounds for the adventure too. Just randomly poop out a slaad tadpole at some point.

As someone who is about to run this module in about 12 Hours this was very informative
